We love the Ramen it is excellent. However on our last trip a few days ago,something happened. We have been going here since they opened this location and the service and food are great . Last night we had a bad experience here, we went in as we usually do about 8pm. Restaurant closes at 9pm ordered our food and midway through our meal the staff started cleaning up not just tables but floors also. As much as I appreciate a clean place, I think they should wait until we finished eating . Ramen and the smell of bleach and other cleaning products do not go hand in hand . I will go back, but I do hope this is addressed for next time !!! read more

I haven't tried much ramen, but there's no denying this place has delicious food. I ordered the Tanaka Combo, which was amazing. My friend chose the Tanaka Rich Garlic said it tasted like fresh garlic. I even brought some to-go home for my other friend, and she quickly devoured it. The Jasmine Green tea has a good amount of sweetness and the boba is good. Can't wait to try the other Ramens next time we visit. Had a second visit recently. We got fries, chicken ramen, Tanaka combo ramen, and other. The fries, Tanaka combo, and other were good, but the chicken ramen was bland. Was skeptical about coming to this place cuz of the reviews. Glad we went against and came! It was packed when we arrived. The only negative was the service, it wasn't bad service, it was just a very harsh vibe from them. They were literally sprinting around, and the girl taking our order was talking so fast and then ripped the menus from our hands. All worth it though because the ramen was delicious. The broth was so flavorful. We got tonkotsu original and the spicy. Spicy was a little too spicy for my partners taste but mixing a few spoonfuls of the spicy into mine was heavenly. One of the best ramen places I've been to in Chicago. I can only have veggie or seafood and it's really hard to find good ramen that doesn't have pork or chicken/beef broth. LOVE THE PLACE!! I come here with my family from time to time, and the service has always been wonderful. I especially recommend the Tanaka Chicken, if you aren't into spicy food. The portion sizes are perfect; and as someone who gets stuffed easily this is the kind of meal that you could eat in one sitting, without feeling bloated. This restaurant is a great way to get introduced to the delicacy of Japanese ramen. All of the food is very delicious and the choices labeled as spicy are indeed very spicy, even for a person like me who has a somewhat high spice tolerance. The only thing I did not like about Tanaka Ramen is that for the couple times I've been there, the boiled eggs in their ramen are cold and sometimes hard. I understand that to serve food in a fast-pace industry, you need to have a good amount of ingredients ready to go at any time and that will involve cooking it in advance and freezing them for the future, but it would be nice if the eggs were reheated before being put in my ramen. Or, they should put it in the broth a while before serving so that the egg turns warm by the time I get my food. Aside from that, their staff members are really polite, the restaurant is gorgeous and clean, the ramen is very filling, and the quality of the food for the price you pay is excellent. 4/5, I heavily encourage giving this place a try if you like Asian food!!! read more

For the burbs you can't go wrong. The ramen is fresh tasty and always on point. My family and I where quite surprised. The garlic work pork is great. The spicy is also lovely. Unfortunately, it's very pricey when ordered through Uber Eats. 1) The prices have been marked up by 15% by the restaurant ($15-$16 per bowl of ramen!!!). The portion is not huge, and very little spinach on my spicy creamy vegan ramen. 2) Uber Eats also charges an additional 15% service fees! So all the cost falls on the consumers... Thinking of trying out this place which recommended by my friend. Since I am a ramen big fans, finally I stopped by to try out. We order a bowl of their Tanaka Classic Ramen, calamari and chicken karaage for our meal while brown sugar milk tea and taro milk tea with tapioca as drinks. For the brown sugar milk tea is taste good but can be better while taro milk tea is really bad like taro flavour ice water. Appetizers are lack of taste. The chicken karaage is hard like rocks, not juicy type and served with so call spicy Mayo but did not taste any spicy. Calamari is soft not crunchy but easy to chew. Tonkotsu Classic Ramen broth is lack of flavour but still is taste good for Asian. But the Narutomaki is too thin and nearly invisible in bowl. Luckily the chashu taste good. The service from the server was decent. Never checked on customers. Need more training. Overall, I will not recommend this place for those who really like ramen read more

On a whim, we ordered ramen for dinner tonight. But be warned, Grubhub makes this a very expensive meal. I opted to go pick it up and it was no problem, and 100% worth it. I got the vegetarian Dan Dan Man with thick noodles - heavenly! Humongous portion, broth that was flavorful and delicious all on its own, loads of perfectly prepared accoutrements. The noodles had a nice chew, not at all soggy, and were gloriously long and curly. My friend has the spicy chicken ramen and said the spice level (mild) was just perfect for her (though she did pour on some of my chili oil). The bowls didn't leak, everything was neatly packaged. Make the trip, you won't regret it! Grab a menu while you're there; while slurping from your beautiful bowl of ramen you can plan what you're going to have next time! read more

This is a full HOMEMADE MEAL with an amazing bone broth & a ton of toppings you can add, homemade noodles, & exquisitely crafted from top to bottom! Utterly delicious. Delivery was fast, food was packaged exceptionally well, & even the drinks were delicious & packaged in a style I have never seen before -- with the drink 100% SEALED from contamination with a shrink-wrap over the cup & an adorable decal. Solid 3 stars, I've had better but I've also had worse. The decor was nicely done, though all of the hard surfaces made it a bit echoey so I could hear everyone else's conversations. The flavors of everything were fine, but thats all it was: just fine, nothing to be mad at but also nothing to write home about. There were two service issues we had but I'm going to give them a pass because with all the COVID stuff going on, it is really difficult for a restaurant to gauge how busy or how slow it will be and schedule staff accordingly, especially when it is a new restaurant that just opened (The two service issues were only one server for the whole front of house, and food was lukewarm). I would be willing to give them a try again once they've found their footing a little better, and once the quarantine stuff is done. read more

Checked this place out with a good friend and it was a nice experience. Atmosphere is modern & relaxing. Our servers (a young man and woman) were attentive, prompt, & didn't hover. We ordered the Tanaka Chicken, Tanaka Spicy (mild), and brown sugar boba milk teas; all phenomenal! We came here today for a quick dinner before stopping by to get Rainbow Cone with our toddler. For his safety (he's not vaccinated) we ordered take out and ate in the car. Since it's harder to eat ramen in the car, we got a Sukiyaki Don and a Karaage Don. The Sukiyaki Don was decent but the Karaage Don is what I wanted to provide feedback on. Karaage is supposed to be exceptionally flavorful, juicy, and crispy. The Karaage in the donburi we ordered today was only flavored by the insufficient amount of sauce/mayo, dry, and not crispy. The fact that it wasn't crispy is reasonable since we arrived about 10-15 min later than when it was ready. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed in that dish and the effort that went in was not worth $12 with 4 small pieces of so called Karaage, 1 broccoli, 1/2 an egg, corn and some scallions. If you want to make true Karaage, please do more research, put in more effort, and then try again. As a matter of fact, order a bowl of Karaage Don from Sutayadon (within Mitsuwa) and you will understand the expectations I had when I ordered the Karaage Don. I didn't become a Japanese food guru like some dude who went on a 2 week trip throughout Japan and thinks he knows it all. I lived there for 3 years so I know what is not so great, decent, and amazing. I can also tell when someone put effort in making something (the eggs you included in both donburi were great) vs just quickly slapped something together. So far, the best ramen in the suburbs. I used to live in the city and this restaurant was walking distance from me so I ordered frequently from them. I can describe 2 instances in which their spicy chicken ramen with extra garlic healed me: 1. Several years ago, a friend visited me from Europe and we went downtown dancing. I don't drink alcohol, but he convinced me to have couple (or more) drinks. Well, consuming alcohol gave me the worst hangover ever the next day!!! As a result of feeling like crap, I was craving spicy ramen, so we went to Tanaka. My hangover went away right after I ate. It saved me from feeling like crap all day! 2. I had the worst sinus infection and my nose was so blocked I couldn't I couldn't breathe. Tanaka Ramen to the rescue! I ordered for delivery their extra spicy ramen and at home I pressed lots of fresh garlic. My sinuses cleared completely while I was eating it. First and last time will go to this establishment. Upon checking in prior to sitting at table- where told to use the hand sanitizer. With a pile of foam all over my hands and wondering how would I eat "finger foods" asked where the restroom was so I could wash my hands properly. Upon entering restrooms was hit by a strong odor of sewage. Noticing no toliet paper in stalls, no hand soap and no paper towels. So I approached the hostess stand and mentioned to staff (female) that the women restroom needed TP/paper towels and soap. I went to our table which was in viewing of restroom and I waited for it to be serviced. Then I saw a cook/ kitchen personal with gloves enter restroom (no supplies) and shortly there after left with the same gloves on and enter the kitchen. Disgusting. Years of hotel experience (kitchen/chef)the first thing one learns is to never walk out of the kitchen with gloves and definitely throw away once using a restroom! Had a hard time enjoying the sub par ramen not to mention glad server forgot to add my Brussel sprouts (ordered but never received). Service matched food- both terrible.
