Quiche and iced coffee
Caroline T.

Great coffee including pour overs. A limited food menu but everything is very good. We loved the goat cheese and sun dried tomato quiche - one of the best I've ever had. Staff are very friendly, and there's a small seating area.

Confession: I just can't deal with the traffic, parking, and line-up at the big Tandem on Congress Street (though of course I'm happy for their well-deserved success). So when I discovered this smaller outpost in East Bayside, I was delighted! It can get busy here too, but it's altogether mellower, feels super local, and it's easier to grab a parking spot somewhere on Anderson Street. Their coffee--as always--is delicious; I'm a pretty faithful latte girl, but they do great pour-over specials too if that's your thing. You also sometimes get the yummy wafting scent from the roastery here. And, there's a selection of Tandem's famous baked goods: if you haven't had one of their cheddar jalapeño biscuits yet, I'm sorry but you have not officially fully experienced this city. They are absolutely delicious. It's also such a pleasant space because of the amazing and super friendly staff. Seriously, they make you feel like a regular from the very first time you go there. And they all seem fully invested in what they do; you're never going to get a latte that's anything less than gorgeous as well as tasty. Also, someone there is a genius with plants! They're hanging and draping from just about every surface in the place, which only makes it nicer to be there. You'll find seating both inside and out. Finally, there's also merch! Not only do they sell their coffee in 1 lb bags--they have little packets of single-shot instant coffees in several varieties (including decaf that raises the bar). These are great not only for gifts but just to bring along when you're on the road and want to be sure you'll have a good cup of Joe. Thanks, Tandem! You're part of what makes Portland the best.

I tried the malt iced coffee yesterday and it was slightly sweet and I enjoyed it. I would get it again but also I would try other things first to see if I like it more. This location was nice, I just took my coffee to go but there were lots of seating options. Service was fast and friendly, next time I'm in Portland I would come back here.

We spent a long weekend in Portland and despite wanting to love it, were heading back home a little underwhelmed. We decided to stop at one more place on the way out, and the wildly sweet and welcoming staff may have redeemed the entire city for us. The lattes and hot chocolates were perfect, and the food was delicious, especially the jalapeño biscuit, we all fought over who would finish it. Also, the amazing natural light apparently inspired my 8 year old, who prior to this morning had no interest in photography. Yet for a few minutes at Tandem he became a food blogger, repeatedly rearranging things to get all the right shots

A fantastic place for coffee and baked goods. Ben taking orders at the bar was kind and very welcoming, giving tasty recommendations and just enjoying the small talk with customers. This was our first stop on our day trip to Portland and it did not disappoint.

So delicious. Everything! But especially the sausage and egg biscuit. Every time I'm in Portland, I'll be here for breakfast first thing!

Quite possibly the single best biscuit in the entire world. What else do you need to know?

The food and vibe were great but what set this place apart was the people. I have never baristas who were more kinda.

They charge you $20 for a pound of coffee then they wanted .50 for a plastic cup of ice. Sigh.

Seeing their seasonal (Valentines) specials on social media really sold us on coming in. It was not that busy when we came in and took no time at all to order and receive our drinks. The baristas were friendly and the spot is definitely a welcoming to everyone space. It seemed like a good spot for those interested to spend time on the computer doing some work or those wanting to watch the world walk by out the windows. The overall vibes were nice enough and I don't have anything overly negative about it but enjoy some other local spots more. It is a thin long space which maybe contributed to that feeling. Also secondly I think it leans a little more towards generic coffee shop. Drink wise my wife and I typically are iced coffee drinkers no matter the weather but with the walking around in the cold made us want that hot coffee to warm us up. I went with their Salted Banana Foster while my wife got the Cherry Cobbler Au Lait. Both were solid drinks to give us that warming feeling inside and delivered good flavor without being too overpowering. Arabica will be a coffee shop I will consider revisiting in Portland it just may not be my first choice.

When I finally checked it out, I was super impressed with their chai. It tasted homemade and was a great size for the price, plus sitting with a hot drink at that cool curved bar is so fun. "Your breath is sweet Your eyes are like two jewels in the…read moresky Your back is straight, your hair is smooth On the pillow where you lie One more cup of coffee for the road One more cup of coffee before I go" (Bob Dylan) Some of my friends gifted me with a basket of Maine goodies after we all served on a charity committee for a few years. In the basket was a 12-ounce bag of ground coffee from Maine's Katahdin Coffee Company. After a few cups, I realized I was drinking some of the very best coffee I ever had in my long coffee drinking life. It had been a very long time since we used ground coffee, because we converted to K Cups years ago (don't hassle me about the environment because we empty out and recycle all those plastic pods). We used one of those "make your own K Cup" plastic/mesh baskets that was banished to a kitchen cabinet for many years, scooped in a few spoonfuls of Katahdin and brewed it in our K Cup machine. My Katahdin coffee was a Medium/Dark variety known as "Baxter Blend". The flavor ran rings around everything else we have in the house. Yes, it was a zillion times better than what I normally drink. Katahdin is sold in quite a few Maine grocery stores and through their website. The website has offerings in 10-ounce, 12-ounce, and 2-lb bags, with choices of ground or whole bean across a few different flavors including Breakfast Blend, Breakfast Blend Decaf, Baxter Blend, French Roast, Maine Whoopie Pie, Hazelnut and Maine Blueberry Pie. Yes, we will be sending out a mail order as soon as we use up every last ground of coffee in that 12-ounce bag.

Unfortunately there are not alot of coffee places around Mount Roberts, especially none that were open at 3pm on a Thursday. So YELP to the rescue and what a sweet one it was! Lucas Roasting Company is a small bisiness tucked away in Wolfboro. Pretty standard coffee drinks but #IYKYK - some of the best coffee comes from small roasting companies. I ended up with a delicous iced coffee and took some canned nitro back with me to CT. This year - again we hiked up (and down) Mount Roberts but this year it was H O T - so it was a no brainer where to head to for some caffine and cooling off. This year I met who I think was one of the owners who gave me the origin story (they are originally from VA) and told me that they have been open for a bit over 3 years. There was no cold brew in the cooler but this time it was a Nitro Cold Brew that was ordered and consumed before we made it back to our lodgings. I wish they were closer but it's good to know that they are "just down the road" from my yearly hiking venue.

But I've always appreciated their delicious roasts! I had the opportunity to check out their open house in December and am so glad I braved the cold and snow to do so. I'm not entirely sure if they're open to the public normally, but part of me hopes they are (or would consider it at least two or four times a year). This is a beautiful space that should be celebrated and used as frequently as possible. We got to sample many different blends and actually watch coffee roast (which I had no idea was such a quick process - from white to yellow to tan to brown). Also, wanna talk about passionate, community-oriented people? The folks behind the Wicked Joe (and Bard) brand(s) definitely are; and they're intensely knowledgeable about coffee, too. What you don't know is that the entire Bard staff is trained thoroughly at this Wicked Joe locale on a set-up identical to one at the actual coffee shop. Each barista has to make every drink on the menu perfectly before they can serve you at Bard. My respect for that coffee shop multiplied by a thousand when I found that out! Also, as a side note, the actual roast of the coffees are different for the two brands - definitely important to remember and point out!
