The food was very good. The service was extremely slow. Maybe it's because we came right when they opened. And maybe during the day they don't have a full staff. Yum yum, was showed this place because of their fish pakora and I've been coming back for years whenever I'm in the Bay Area. I've order this at many other restaurants and nothing compares. They flavor is delicious, on the salty side but pairs well with the dipping sauce. It's alway hot and juicy. Portion is quite large, perfect to share with others for appetizer. This was mine and my family's go to spot for Indian food for years! There has been two incidents with the lady (owner) who is at the register. 1st incident: I ordered food over the phone, I specifically told them no spices in the chicken tikka masala as this was for kids. I took the food home, and it was crazy spicy, so I went back to the restaurant and told the lady the food is too spicy my kids cannot eat it. She asked me where the food is and I said at home. She made me go back home get the two tubs of chicken tikka then she would make me a new one. Her reasoning behind me going back home and bringing the food to her was because people get food from her like fish pakora and say it was uncooked and she ends up making more for them at no charge. She didn't trust the fact that the food was spicy and I'm bringing it back. She must have assumed I ate it and I'm trying to jip her. 2nd incident: I make another phone order, I'm asking for Paneer Masala (with gravy). The cook who took my order over the phone heard me wrong and made paneer tikka. I go pick up the food and the same lady in the front goes " chicken tikka masala and paneer tikka". I go " no it was chicken tikka masala and paneer tikka". The cook comes out and says " I heard paneer tikka". I say "okay but I wanted the paneer with gravy which is what I said over the phone". The lady goes "what you want me to do with this paneer it's already made". I said I don't know but I'll wait for you to make the right paneer. Again she goes "but what you want me to do with this paneer that I made already?". It sounded like she wanted me to buy the wrong food they made, and so I buy it because I don't want to waste it. AS A MOM AND POP BUSINESS: 1. Customer service should be 1st priority. Your cook should not be answering calls if he cannot hear the order correctly. Maybe hop out of the kitchen? 2. It is not my responsibility to tell you what you need to do with the wrong order. You run a business you should figure out what to do with the wrong order. 3. This is how places go out of business. I've been going here for years when the lady's husband used to be in the front. She pretty much made me pay for food I didn't order, and made me go home get the chicken tikka masala because it was spicy for my kiddos. There is an Indian restaurant right down the street, I'll be checking out that place instead. read more

Great, spicy chicken vindaloo. And the to-go size container is larger than most Indian/Thai restaurants. The $8.99 price is reasonable. It comes with either rice or naan. First time trying this place. It was good but I wish they had more choices. The lamb curry was a little hard to get into since it was placed in a hard to reach place. The butter chicken and the garlic naan were delicious. The chicken curry and the lamb curry were a bit on the saltier side. The location is all the way on Mission Blvd in Hayward. I went there because I was in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again since I have better and closer places to choose from. read more

Surinder and his team at Tandoor Indian Restaurant made our wedding. We had 170 guests at our wedding at The Green Room in San Francisco. After trying the food of several catering companies, including the highest-end caterers, we elected to go with Tandoor. It was the best decision we made for our wedding. Surinder was very communicative throughout the entire planning process. The tastings provided by Tandoor were top notch, and Surinder and his staff treated us well throughout the tasting process. Tandoor made it fun and elegant, just as you hope when you are doing a tasting for your wedding. Surinder then gave me and my wife a tour of his van and showed us the serving trays and catering supplies. When I stated that one beverage serving item was a bit different than what we wanted, Tandoor found and ordered a beautiful stainless dispenser. Surinder clearly wanted our day to be special just as much as we did. Then came our wedding day. Surinder and his staff arrived on time. Everything we had asked for was there and done perfectly. And more than anything, the food was AMAZING. It was better than any caterer we had ever had, including the high-end caterers. The food Tandoor cooks at your wedding is done fresh, and it may be possibly even better than what you get when you order single items at the restaurant. They do their very best work for your big day. This is a top-notch catering service. Everything is done to the nines. The service, staff, and food are all seamless and heartfelt. The chicken tikka masala was poor in quality and just smelt horrible, the sauce and the chicken like rotten. I couldn't believe it. This used to be my go-to spot but I've noticed the quality of the food has gotten severely bad. There is no more effort in the quality of food and the customer service. Everything is bad and they don't care. We went to show the owner the food and asked her to taste the food, but she refused and threw it in the trash. The owner started arguing with me, telling me how other people never complain. It's sad the way they do business because they don't see what they're doing and how it'll affect their business in the long run. They lost a very loyal customer. Definitely not coming back. Great local gem in Hayward! We tried the fish pakora which came with two types of chutney and tartar sauce, butter chicken, and paneer tikka masala. We got a side of rice and naan (regular and garlic) with our entrees. We also got mango lassi and chai to drink. I thought everything was flavorful and perfectly portioned for sharing! The naan came out freshly toasted, the chai was brewed as soon as we ordered it, and the entrees were served in steel/copper bowls which kept everything hot throughout the meal. The butter chicken was my favorite of the entrees, plus the garlic naan. I was very impressed by the food and the service was quick and friendly. I also liked how they were open late. In short, I would definitely come back if visiting friends in the area and wanted Indian food! read more

Very bad customer service. Restaurant doesn't provide water and they serve food. And they bring out soda on table and customers are not informed and they charge afterwards for soda. I tried their Lamb Korma w. rice. The order was ready in half an hour (as requested) and was piping hot when I picked it up. The sauce was just delicious. With a little less mirchi (red pepper) it would have been perfect - deserving of five stars. The lamb was tasty but I would have preferred it a bit more tender. The quantity of food was decent. We've been touring Indian Buffets in a quest to find the best Butter Chicken. Today was Indian Food Monday and we headed to Tandoor. The atmosphere isn't fancy, but it's CLEAN. The dining room is comfortable and smells like great food. We had the buffet and now it's one of our favorite local places. The selection has about 20 hot items and a cold case with salad, desserts, and sauces. The chai is good, they brought hot, fresh naan and we got perfect attention to fill our water glasses and pull the used plates. The food was flavorful and each dish tasted different. We've been to a few places where things are bland and chicken tikka masala tastes like butter chicken. Tandoor dishes distinct flavors are about as spicy as you'll ever see at a buffet. There are peppers, chili sauce, and chili powder to add heat. One star lost for the temperature of the food. Nothing was hot. except for the naan. The steam-table feels warm, not hot. Consequently, everything is lukewarm. I thought about asking them to microwave for 90 seconds but didn't. I figured they KNOW the steam table doesn't work. This is how they laid out the lunch buffet today. it was freshly made by people who care that you have lunch with them. So if they present it warm, not hot, that's how I'll enjoy it. And it was delicious at lukewarm. I KNOW this food has got to be incredible when it's hot. I look forward to going again when they fix or replace the steam table. read more

Some of the items here are decent (though the tandoori chicken was a huge disappointment, which is ironic, given the restaurant's name). The service is pretty awful as well. The setting is simple and clean. My husband and I got several items, and after our dinner, left with enough leftovers for at least another full meal for us both. We got the following: 1) Fish pakoras - quite tasty (served with a good tartar sauce - the first time I'd ever seen tartar sauce in an Indian restaurant!) 2) Tandoori chicken - totally dried out and hugely disappointing 3) Sheesh kebab - flavorful, though a bit dry 4) Bhindi masala (okra) - good 5) Punjabi daal - good 6) Tandoori roti - quite good The service here was largely non-existent. No one greeted or seated us. Later, when we we complained about an error in our order, the waiter wordlessly took the dish away (it was replaced with the correct item, but it was bizarre that there was no apology or verbal acknowledgement of any kind)! They did not bring a bill to our table, and we had to pay at the counter. The setting is simple and reasonably clean. The toilet in the ladies room does not flush. My sister and I went to Tandoor today (6/3/23). This used to be one of our favorite spots to go, but today was horribly different. We ordered their butter chicken and the chicken was spoiled. We notified them and asked if they could take it back, and the owners refused. We asked them to take it off our check and they refused to do that as well. They kept claiming that the chicken was just cooked yesterday and "fresh." They are going to make somebody sick if they do not check their food quality. I will not be returning. read more

Came in today for lunch i ride pass all the time on my route. Looks like its closed its not and the food was bomb. I had the shrimp biryani lord have mercy big ass shrimp and so much flavor. Worst customer Service and serves old food. I placed an online order and the Tandoori chicken was smelling unpleasant and happened to take it back to the restaurant. They were very rude to us and told us that maybe we are eating this for the first time. Another customer who was listening to the conversation, came to us and told us that it happened to her as well few months back and they responded the same way.
