Goat curry over plain rice, butter chicken, tandoori chicken
    Vrushali N.

There were a good 4 or 5 solid Indian buffets in Hayward for as long as I can remember. And this is not event counting the dozens of buffets in Fremont and the South Bay. All that changed with the pandemic. Quite a few Indian restaurants have tried to bring back the buffets but for a good one you still need to travel to the south bay. So it was a surprise to find out about this place serving a daily lunch and a weekend dinner buffet! I called ahead to get an idea of what they serve and it seemed like a good deal for $20 a person. I also liked that they had equal vegetarian and non vegetarian items so husband who is currently not eating meat could have some options. The buffet itself is small but there are enough and more options for any kind of craving. Two vegetarian appetizers. A lentil (dal), and a legume potato dish. A goat curry, a chicken curry and tandoori chicken . Indo Chinese offerings of vegetarian fried rice and noodles and one paneer and one chicken entree. White rice in addition to the fried rice, and naan brought to the table. Two desserts, chai for post dinner. And the piece de resistance- the momos !! Both in veg and chicken. Service was quick and friendly and all the dishes in the buffet tasted fresh because they made them in small batches as needed. The place itself is no frills and simple but seating is plenty. I don't know if we will ever go back to pre pandemic buffet levels, but for now we have this decent Indian buffet right here in Hayward.

Went there for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the $19.99 buffet. It included vegetarian momos (so good) and chicken momos, served outside from a steamy pan. Buffet included multiple items such as butter chicken, barbecue chicken, Chana dal, garbanzo curry, paneer and goat curry. There were also two types of rice, veg chow mein ( yummy), crispy spring rolls, pakora, two types of desserts ( kheer and gulab jamun) and bonus chai. Everything was fresh and delicious. Customer service was friendly and very interactive. She explained about the buffet and brought out hot fresh buttered naans. There were thin, fresh and very soft. Totally worth it.

We came here on a Friday night and were the first once's in the restaurant. They had a Buffett for $19.99 per person that we did, and it ended up being a great choice. They offer a weekday lunch buffet and a weekend dinner buffet. Most people who walked in were like us, not expecting a buffet but agreeing with it -- seemed like everyone who went with the buffet enjoyed it as well. The buffet came with momos (which were served outside and options were veggie and also chicken momos), curries, masalas, fried rice and white rice, egg rolls, pakoras, a salad bar, grilled chicken, dessert, chai tea, etc. You could also ask for naan. We were pleasantly surprised at the buffet options and also really liked everything we tried. It was quite delicious and everything was also clean and clearly labeled. We would definitely come back and recommend the buffet to others.

Buffet options included this selection and many more!

I highly recommend treating yourself to this flavorful experience. We went in for the weekend (Friday) buffet, and it was a tremendous value, and the food quality was second to none. I loved everything about the restaurant, it has a nice outdoor patio if it gets crowded and a separate back room if needed. The ambiance was really nice and inviting. The staff were very attentive, polite, and friendly. This was our first time in and we left feeling like family. The restaurant was clean which is always appreciated and parking was safe and easy. The Momos were really good and I will be coming back here again very soon!

We came here for dinner on a Monday night and had a great experience! The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and space was pleasant. Our family of 3 shared the following: 1) Chicken momos - delicious 2) Pahadi chicken curry- very good; my 7 year old daughter loved this 3) Mixed vegetable curry - flavorful 4) Naan - good 5) Tandoori roti - good The food came out quickly and the staff was attentive and warm. I only wish they had cleared away empty dishes without us asking. The restaurant was clean and welcoming (though we could have done without the Nepali music videos playing on the TV in the background). Overall, we really enjoyed the food here and look forward to returning!

VEG MOMO - delicious, with an exceptional sauce.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Everything looked and tasted homemade--in the best way. The hubby and I were looking for a quick place for dinner on the way out of town and this place had some of the best ratings in the area. Plus, we are always down for Indian food! It wasn't very crowded at all when we stepped in, as it was still pretty early, so no problems getting a table. The interior was clean and pleasant, but decidedly untrendy. We ordered the following: - Veg momo (steamed veg dumplings served with a creamy spicy sauce) - Dal Tadka (yellow lentil curry) - Paneer Tikka Masala (sweet red curry with cheese cubes) - Saag Paneer (puréed spinach curry with cheese cubes) - Basmati rice We enjoyed everything, but the portions seemed a bit on the small side. There was free chai, however (piping hot)! Pleasant service too--overall a good deal.

We tried chicken momos, chili chicken momos, and veg chowmein -- everything hit the spot. Flavorful, well-seasoned, and satisfying. Nothing felt greasy or overdone, which I appreciate. The interior has more of a takeout vibe than a dine-in one, and service was a bit slow and checked out -- though to be fair, we walked in close to closing time, so that could explain it. Would go back, but probably for takeout next time. The food is worth it.

Little tiny place but the food is excellent. I have to admit I'm not a big fan of Indian food but I loved the variety of this place and there was something for everyone. I loved the fried lentil bean balls (falafel?) and the fried spinach (lol, maybe it's the wrong names) but it was good! Once you find the sauce that you like from the dishes then you can just use that sauce for dipping your naan or the falafels! My favorite dish by far was the fish curry, which was lightly battered and the fish was nice and flakey, not hard and dry. The butter chicken was tender and had a great sauce that I used for dipping my naan and falafels. The tandoori chicken was also very tender! I was surprised at the quality considering it was a buffet. Was expecting dried foods but it was surprisingly good! And you definitely can't beat the weekday price! As a buffet, they pretty much leave you alone so the service was fine. I was looking self serve to refill my glass of water but she was nice enough to walk over with the pitcher to refill our glasses. Loved it for the variety so I think I want to bring my friend who loves Indian food to the Sunnyvale location. Let's hope the quality is consistent!

Stumbled upon this place after visiting the farmers market on Saturday morning. We were lured in by the $16.99 buffet sign and saw they had good ratings on Google, so we decided to try it out. Why not, right? For the price, this place is a steal! They had a pretty wide selection of both vegetarian and meat options. Some of my favorites from the spread include the eggplant curry, goat curry, butter chicken and pakoras. They also had an outdoor station with veggie and chicken momos and pani puri - weekend only and a server helps you out here. There's also piping hot chai and desserts available, as well as a chutney bar on the side of the buffet. They bring you fresh naan once you sit down at your table. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch here and would come back again! They also have an a la carte menu if buffets aren't your thing.

I re downloaded yelp just to leave this review. At this stage in my life, I am vegetarian. I can't believe I didn't know about this place until today. The cost of the buffet is so affordable by Bay Area standards, or even including Sacramento. The paneer is very very tasty, and are huge solid cubes of goat cheese. The dal tadka, though watery, is full of flavor for dal, just the right amount without being overdone. There are also some meat options for meat eaters. Very prompt water refills. I very highly recommend this place.

This updated review is solely based on the lunch buffet. I went with a coworker and was very apprehensive going back since my previous experience here was terrible. I stayed open minded and glad I did. The lunch buffet had a decent amount of options and I liked that it had a couple different proteins along with hot chai tea. The price is pretty decent for the food and being able to get more than one plate. I'd come back for the lunch buffet.

Came in for their weekly lunch special and enjoyed it a lot! They had a great selection of meat & veggie options. The food was kept warm & fresh too. The cashier was super sweet and provided awesome customer service too. For a 15.00 per person lunch buffet, you really can't beat that price for the quantity/quality of the food Gurkha Kitchen provides :-). I'll def be back to try out their regular dishes for dinner.

Visited on July 21: super late review but excellent customer service from the waiter. Plenty of options of the menu and the waiter was very helpful with selecting items on the menu. I ordered the Butter chicken and a side of rice. So much chicken I had leftovers! Definitely would come back to try a different dish.

First time we were there my husband and I did both. We got the miso soup base for the broth and it was meh. It wa flavorless in my opinion. My favorite meat us beef bulgogi. Delish! You get to experience cooking your own food while eating and socialize. The second time we went my family members ordered the hot pot, Korean bbq AND sushi rolls. Wooh! This time around I got the healthy herb and it SO YUMMY! I recommend this one. I like the variety of options for meat and veggies for the Korean bbq and the hot pot. Be careful though. We were immediately greeted, and pricing was explained because seating location depended on what we chose to eat: hot pot only, KBBQ only, or both. 1 was $34.99, and for both was an additional $5. We chose KBBQ. After seated, we were presented with food and drink menus, but since drinks were not included, we chose water. We can order up to 8 items, which we did, and while waiting we were directed to the sauce and appetizer/banchan area. I chose broccoli, jap chae, and salad and returned to my table. Someone was already bringing our 8 items. We had several rounds although not always 8 items each time, and eventually we were full. Our favorites were the LA galbi, beef belly, and marinated bulgogi. Some of the meats were a little tough, but that generally happens with the leaner loin beef. Our grill was swapped out multiple times without our asking, and our water cups were promptly topped off throughout the evening. Food was brought out promptly each time by either a person or a robot. Our server was putting on a show; he spoke several languages to us and made jokes, not interfering with our meal but being entertaining. We sat next to the window so were able to look out into the beautiful lagoon as our view. I don't know if there is a time limit, but we were not rushed. All employees were pleasant, not rushing. I don't eat desserts, but my dining partners enjoyed the yogurt from the machine and mango pudding. Our server recommended adding the peanut sauce and peanuts to the yogurt, which was appreciated. We don't have a lot of choices for AYCE, so I will return. I've only been here once before for hot pot and don't always remember that it's here. I saw some of the negative reviews about being rushed or pushy service and am glad I didn't experience this during our dinner.

Some things were decent like the honey walnut shrimp, steamed oysters when restocked, and a few of the dim sum items. The sushi bar was average for a buffet and the seafood section had some okay picks if you catch them early. A lot of the hot dishes felt pretty average though -- many were sitting out too long, overcooked, or underseasoned. Quality was hit or miss and not as strong as some of the better buffets in the East Bay. They had a sashimi bar which was nice. Service was fine, nothing memorable. The place gets loud and busy during peak dinner hours. Parking at the mall is easy though. Overall it's a decent 3 star buffet for the price if you're craving quantity and variety in Fremont. Not worth a special trip from far away but does the job locally when the mood hits.

She was very defensive, and said she thought I was referring to a plastic bag. Folks, don't make the mistake of over tipping here. You don't get the service you expect and deserve. The food is good though, but the service sucks! We spent, with the tip, about $240.

I'm gonna check with my NorCal moots about this but sucks if that's true. I was going to comment on how this is one of few bastions of affordable, slightly more unique food in the bay area, but I guess that's not the case. I'm spoiled by having a Dollar Hits in SoCal literally down the street from me so I can't say this place compares, but it's at least an option for NorCal, you know? This definitely used to be another restaurant, but then retrofitted to be a grill. Super large grill in the middle for everyone to communally cook at indoors. This is a good combination between the outdoors grill it yourself and the indoors seating of both the SoCal Dollar Hits, so I thought that was nice. They have all the classics here, isaw (sometimes Dollar Hits doesn't have this unless you request -it's chicken intestines), large intestines, chicken skin, kwek kwek (battered quail eggs), and Tender Juicy bright red filipino hot dogs (a must). You can also order a side of rice and the sauces were self serve (made it a bit sticky). It gets a bit smoky in there even with the fans, but overall had an enjoyable time the time when I did visit.

The meat is seasoned to perfection and too spicy for our toddler. The restaurant has literally up levleled their service. They are so popular. Not that we were gateleeping this place but I wish we did. It is soooo popular now. And they remodeled so there is more space. You definitely gotta try this place. If you don't come anything but the mango ice cream you will be satisfied.

Everything coming off there was fresh and had that smoky flavor you don't usually get at buffets. We went for the Saturday all you can eat option and it was actually a solid deal. Plenty of choices, and they kept everything stocked so nothing felt picked over. I liked that the food tasted fresh, not like it had been sitting. I've also tried their lamb chops buffet Friday before, and that's honestly the reason I came back. The lamb chops were juicy, well-seasoned, and didn't have that dry texture you sometimes get. Service was chill and friendly, nothing over the top but they made sure we were good. Overall, good food, good portions, and worth it if you're hungry and want variety.
