    Chicken Vindaloo lunch special
    Nancy C.

Favorite Indian Restaurant, Hayward My family and I used to come here so often before the Covid-19 pandemic, we always get the lunch buffet during the weekdays. They served all different types of delicious Indian entrees with yummy desserts. It was unlimited frozen mango ice cream, Gulab Jamun which are soft, fried donut holes soaked in a warm, fragrant sugar syrup, and Kheer which is rice pudding. Everything was so delicious! One of my favorite Indian restaurants, literally! They currently have lunch specials during the weekdays which are also a great option and so worth coming in for! What we ordered: *Chicken Vindaloo Lunch Special- chicken was tender and the vindaloo sauce has a spicy kick which I loved! It came with a side salad, some sides and basmati rice. *Butter Chicken- chicken was also tender and butter sauce was perfect, great pairing with naan and basmati rice. *Tandoori Chicken- I love the Charred favor on this and the seasoning was lightly favored. Great presentation too! I usually get any of their signature Tikka Masala dishes because they're very delicious! If you like spicy then I recommend their Vindaloo dishes. Highly recommend the garlic or onion naan that are paired with their signature tamarind and mint/ coriander chutney. Service is great, would come back again!!

The amazing amazing lamb skewers. BeSt LamB i ever have.

This is the best the best the best Indian restuarant i ve ever been too. The all you can eat is amazing in value and in quality. The selections are plentiful, the quality of food is best. Their lamb skewer theybserved table side is fantastic, best ive ever had. Just go eat here, you will be wow by this place.

This is a classic place to eat at for their buffets and lunch specials. I hadn't eaten here in years until my partner wanted to go after a friend suggested it to us We came on a Friday for lunch and it was quite peaceful. They have a very comfortable and upscale interior with good food options. We got the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala and everything was so creamy and went well with the garlic naan and curries. The kheer helped bring the heat down from the curries. Everything was made so well and we need to come back here stat!

Just highlighting the amazing customer service. I did an uber eats order, but one get one! Orde the chicken rolls masala, naan, and vegetable samosa. They gave me 2 extra samosas! They also gave complimentary rice to go with my chicken tikka. And of course gotta have a mango lassi, mine is currently in the freezer getting extra cold!!

Came closer to closing time so no other customers were around Opted for buffet styled dinner Selection was not bad for price but average quality overall Loved the endless chai refills Loved the mango soft serve Thank you!

Food was amazing. My family and I love it here. Service was very attentive. Also they refill the food very quickly. Clean up dishes, attend to our drinks very quickly. Very good price for dinner buffet on the weekend for $22.95/person. Parking is plentiful just next to the restaurant. A safe area too.

An absolutely favorite for my family and I to eat authentic and delicious Indian food. We have been going to Favorite Indian buffet since they opened in San Ramon. Now they moved to Hayward we still come once in a while. My favorite is their Butter Chicken. The best!!

I've been coming to Favorite Indian Restaurant for around 15 years now, and it's still one of my go-to spots for Indian food. The food is always good, and it's one of those places I always come back to. I'm really happy their lunch buffet is coming back on May 2, and I'm excited to try the new Live Kababs too. I've missed having a good Indian lunch buffet with fresh food and all the classics in one place. If you're looking for good Indian food, a solid lunch buffet, or a reliable Indian restaurant, this place is definitely worth trying.

Timing is everything. Sometimes things just fall into place because they are meant to be. On 11/09/2024, at around 4:45pm, my family and I were traveling on NB 880 when we started talking about having Indian food for dinner and how much we missed the old Favorite Indian Restaurant in San Ramon. Well, someone must have been listening because when I did an on-board computer search, the first option that came up was - you guess it - Favorite Indian Restaurant in Hayward! Done deal, off we went. We arrived right at 5pm and were the first customers of the dinner rush. The owner told us to sit anywhere we wanted, and we chose a booth near the buffet station. The interior was dark, and cleanliness was satisfactory. The space must have been an American restaurant in the past because many aspects reminded me of one. The buffet ($22.95) featured 20 meat and vegetarian items plus salad, soft drinks, and desserts. I noticed some higher cost ingredients such as okra, cauliflower, etc. were missing. The overall quality was decent. The standout items were the fish pakora and tandoori chicken. Both were made in small batches to ensure freshness. I was disappointed with the chicken tikka masala. The chicken breast pieces were tough and dry. Service was alright. The owner came by several times to refill water and clear the table of plates. All in all, I thought this place was decent but not as good as their old San Ramon location (better selection and quality). 3.5 stars rounding up to 4. Will return when I crave Indian buffet. BONUS MATERIAL: - Private parking lot on site. - Major credit cards accepted.

We have our favorites from their menu but they host a variety of curries, proteins, and small bites/street eats. Panipuri - crispy balls ready to be loaded up with lentils, delicious fillings and sauces, these mouthfuls are great for starters but you'll find yourself eating these throughout the meal not only because you're hungry but also because you just can't get enough of them. Samosas - hearty fried dumplings packed with potatoes that are perfect for eating on the go. Great by itself or with sauces and curry, these hot pockets are a burst of flavor that will stuff you up. Goat curry - full of flavor and a bit on the spicy end for those sensitive to capsaicin. Pair with naan or rice and you'll be golden, from the tastes you'll be experience as well as the heat! Butter paneer/chicken - the sweetness of the curry is subtle but the creaminess is what will win you over. Smothered over chicken or paneer, this is a delicious palate pleaser. Biryani - solid staple, flavorful and cooked perfectly. Great by itself or paired with some curry or a grilled entree. Salmon - delicious but a bit overcooked for my liking but in a pinch, omega-3s can be supplemented in this meal. Overall, Phulkari satisfies our craving for Indian curry any day and it's great knowing that the experience will consistently be a good one anytime those cravings come up. We haven't had a chance to dine in but would welcome the opportunity to visit for a sit down. For now, they're still our go-to for Indian cuisine when we are in the area. Unsure of where you'll end up settling for food or not having the time or space to cook an elaborate meal packed with flavors and aromas? Phulkari pulls through as the restaurant of choice!

New menu, new prices, new staff. Upon walking in they asked us if we would like to sit outside after seeing my service dog. I said no thank you (as it was chilly out) and they didn't push the issue at all, just sat us. They served us water immediately. This is a small thing but the water glasses were easy to hold and lightweight and I liked that. Anyways, they checked on us several times while we looked at the new menu, encouraging us to ask questions if we wanted. Rice is complimentary with each curry-type dish. Our food came quickly. When they noticed we had eaten half our rice, they repeatedly offered us rice and we said no thanks. Then they brought it anyways. We didn't mind, they were very eager to give good service and to be present. They refilled our glasses once they got low. At the end of the meal they came over and discussed the food with us, let us know about the new ownership and how they've changed the menu, and that they are using all fresh ingredients. They seem very eager to provide good food and service. The dishes were both flavorful. The vegetables in them were fresh tasting. Neither was at all spicy-- afterwards they let us know that they are doing all the dishes mild (Castro valley lol) so if you like your Indian food spicy you will need to tell them explicitly when you order.

This exceptional establishment has become my go-to destination for experiencing the genuine flavors and aromas that transport me back to cherished memories of home-cooked meals from years past. I discovered Flavor of India several years ago, and since that initial visit, I have never once been disappointed--not with the food, not with the service, and not with the overall experience. What makes this restaurant truly special is the remarkable consistency they maintain. Every time I walk through their doors, I know I'm in for an authentic culinary journey that honors traditional North Indian cooking methods and recipes. The heart and soul of Flavor of India are undoubtedly Pawan and Gurudev, the dedicated staff members who don't just serve customers--they welcome guests like family. Their warm hospitality creates an atmosphere that goes far beyond a typical dining experience. They remember regular customers, take time to explain dishes, make thoughtful recommendations, and genuinely care about ensuring everyone feels comfortable and well-cared-for. This personal touch transforms a simple meal into something meaningful and memorable. The restaurant's physical space itself contributes significantly to the overall ambiance. Abundant natural light floods the dining area, creating a bright, welcoming environment that feels both refreshing and inviting. Unlike dimly lit restaurants where you strain to see your food, Flavor of India's well-lit space allows you to fully appreciate the vibrant colors of the dishes--the rich reds of tandoori preparations, the golden hues of curries, and the fresh greens of chutneys and garnishes. Adding another layer to the sensory experience, the restaurant often plays bhajans--devotional songs that provide a spiritual and cultural soundtrack to your meal. These traditional hymns are a true blessing, creating an atmosphere that feels authentically connected to Indian culture and heritage. The combination of soulful music with the aromatic spices wafting from the kitchen creates a multisensory experience that engages not just your taste buds but your entire being. Whether you're seeking the comfort of familiar childhood flavors or exploring North Indian cuisine for the first time, Flavor of India delivers on every front. The authenticity of the food, the warmth of the staff, the inviting atmosphere, and the thoughtful cultural touches all combine to create a dining experience that nourishes both body and soul. This is more than just a restaurant--it's a place where tradition, hospitality, and exceptional food come together perfectly.

There is ample parking in front as the restaurant is in a strip mall without a lot of evening traffic. Outside is brightly lit and inside, the dining area is large, so there is plenty of room between tables. Even though there were many people there and music overhead we could still hear each other and converse. There are tables and booths. It's clean and bright. Our server was attentive and friendly. The menu is extensive! It was hard to choose, but I ordered chicken tikka masala because I don't see it offered at too many other restaurants, not the way butter chicken is.. it was wonderful! The server asked our preferred spice levels and the kitchen delivered. Husband ordered palak paneer and loved that the spinach wasn't over creamed or over blended (he doesn't like when the spinach is no longer recognizable as spinach and the palak looks like green baby food - this is not the case here). The palak paneer was perfect. We had veg pakora as an appetizer. It was SO good. Since we were celebrating a birthday and had cake waiting at home, we took home a lot of leftovers, which made the next night's dinner at home pretty epic too. For such a nice place, the prices are reasonable. There is a full bar. I had my back to it and didn't see it until we were leaving. I'm not sure if it is open all the time or not. When we return, likely for our anniversary next month, I might order a drink. It was about a 25 minute drive for us, so we won't be able to make this our new go-to, but you can be sure we will return as soon and as often as the opportunity comes along again.

But I don't go to Indian places to get the butter chicken. I actually don't remeber what I got for my lunch combo, but it wasn't anthing to write home about. Pricing was okay given it was the lunch time special pricing. Honestly the atmosphere felt like a family shop where no one wants to work there but it pays the bills. There's a counter filled with unlabeled treats. They looked good but I had no idea what they were. Service was the minimum which doesn't really bother me but some people enjoy it. Felt really cramped filled with tables and people who think they're having an exotic lunch instead of McDonald's. This place is not for me and after I told by bf this he agreed. Kinda hard to find, it's like a blink and you miss it. Parking is sparse, I parked down the street.
