This time we ordered through DoorDash. I always get the same thing because it is so good: Chicken Tikki Masala + Garlic Naan + Vegetable Samosas. Everything came out the same as in the restaurant! I'm very happy with the consistency of Tandoori Express!

This place is located next to Assagios in Ala Moana! When coming down the escalator, I was met with the smell of Indian curries and I was so ready to eat! The space is small with around 5 tables for dine in seating but many people were taking food to go as well. Service was a little slow, but the place was full. It also was on the warmer side in there, so keep that in mind if you don't like heat. Now my husband and I shared a lunch 3 curry plate with spinach paneer, butter chicken, and lamb Rogan Josh. We also got a side garlic naan. Absolutely blown away with the flavors. My favorite had to be the butter chicken. The chicken was flavorful and grilled which is unlike many other places. The Rogan Josh was so tasty as well, but lamb isn't my favorite protein. The spinach paneer was good, but another place on island has my favorite spinach paneer. The naan was sizeable for sharing too! Guys I want to come back again very soon! I highly recommend this place for lunch at the mall.

Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... I saw a new Indian restaurant at Ala Moana Center - I think my friends Donna O. and Jackie K. mentioned it to me, also. I told my church auntie and my sister about it. My auntie will go anywhere. My sister said she had never had Indian cuisine before... okay! Let's go! Free, covered, shared parking is much appreciated! Tandoori Express is located next to Assagio on the ground level of the Macy's wing. Service was efficient and helpful! My auntie got the spicy lamb curry - I didn't even want to try it... LOL! My sister got two entrées and she liked both! I got the Butter Chicken - no spicy - but it had some kick to it. I consumed all of it with the rice (to balance out the flavor) that came with the entrée. I also ordered the Garlic Naan and used it to wipe up my plate... yup! The sauce from the Butter Chicken was delicious! The only thing that could improve would be the interior climate of the cozy restaurant. I was not only perspiring from the slightly spicy sauce, but also because I couldn't feel any air-conditioning. Even my auntie commented on my flushed face. I cannot return unless there's strong air-conditioning! LOL!

Update: Thanks to eagle eye Yelp Elite All Star Nadine C., for bringing to my attention that my review incorrectly stated that the opening date was in 2036! Off by ten years! Obviously, an error. The year is 2026. Thank you again Nadine. P. S. Yelp did not allow an edit of my original review, hence this update.

We love Indian/Nepalese/Pakistani food and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the two bento choices of Tandoori chicken and lamb kebabs with a side order of garlic naan. The flavors/spices were perfect, not overpowering or bland. The food arrived quickly and piping hot. The restaurant is clean, but a bit warm (not uncomfortable). We definitely want to go back and try the curries. Note: they are closed on Tuesdays.

Located inside Ala moana center, I guess you call this mid level, one below the mall level, next to Macy's and you can come down from the escalator. Small place with just 3 tables. They are pretty busy when we went for our dinner. I would say the price is on the cheap side. We order two 2 choices dinner plate and a garlic naan. The sauces for all our choice or meats are all good. But the meat portion in each of our choice is very small, only a few pieces per choice. Although my two choices with rice plate is cheap at $12.99, I am not that full at the end, if wasn't for the extra naan that we ordered, I will go home hungry. At the end, dinner for two cost about $39, you know that is cheap in Honolulu. Over all, I will give this place a 8 out of 10 because of the tasty sauce. Honestly, I can eat my rice with just the sauce!

First time here! The food was Soo delicious! Got the tandoori Chicken with rice, garlic Naan and Tikka Masala curry with rice. Dot the gulab jamun! Everything was tasty. I gave the restaurant four stars because it was definitely clean, but needed A/C. I was sweating bullets

Great service... food was outstanding. But air conditioner was not working was a bit warm minus 1 star. But still excellent food. Butter chicken curry is heavenly. The basmati rice is also excellent as they add cumin to the rice. Nice change from plain regular basmati rice. A definite return to try other interesting dishes..

Last came to this spot when it was Himalayan Kitchen. While this spot is Pakistani and Himalayan Kitchen was Indian/Nepali, I was glad to see another spot that offered naan and curries (outside of Japanese curry). Food was great (also got a mango lassi as well) and our server was nice. I ordered the butter chicken and lamb curry; I preferred the butter chicken. Lamb curry was good but it was a flavor of curry I was not familiar with and realized that to may not be my preference. Garlic cheese naan -- lovely ! Some food items were served in takeout containers and a soda we ordered came in its original can, so it's not the typical restaurant vibes --- if you're particularly about that ! But food was good, not too long of a wait, and the place was clean. Would go back !

I had a great experience at Tandoori Express! I ordered the chicken vindaloo, which wasn't actually on the menu, but they were happy to make it for me anyway. The flavor was really good, though I wish there had been a bit more chicken and other ingredients in the dish. The meal came with a side of rice that was perfectly cooked. I also got a mango lassi, which was delicious, and the garlic naan was absolutely amazing - definitely a highlight of the meal. The only minor thing was I wanted ice in my water but they didn't have any available. The service was good and attentive. All of this came to about $27, and they have dine-in seating so you can enjoy your meal there. One nice bonus: they're open until 8:30, which is a half hour later than when the food court closes at 8, so you have a bit more time to grab dinner if you're running late. Great value for the quality and portion size. Would definitely come back!

Spice Up your life!…read more Yeah.....sorry no Spice Girls at this restaurant (though my mom did tell me there are a variety of Indian restaurants in London). NOTES 1. BYOB. The restaurant does provide a wine opener (if you haven't brought your own) and glasses. 2. Parking available in the lot behind the restaurant. The "entrance" to the lot very nondescript....its kind of like going thru a large "portal". Signage is great, but there is a sign for parking.....just be aware when traveling East on King St. 3. The restaurant is cozy, not too small, but not large. There were two parties of 5 and 6 people, respectively, that were accommodated fairly easily while we were dining. 4. I was in a group of 4 that ventured for dinner last month. After perusing the menu (we didn't take very long since we were hungry), we ordered for the table: Garlic Cheese Naan Vegetable Samosas Chicken Momo Lamb Boti Kabab Tandoori Chicken Wings Butter Chicken Chicken Tikka Masala The food was incredibly good....or, since we were so hungry anything tasted great at the moment for dinner. Nah, it's the former. The dish that disappeared and was completely devoured was the Butter Chicken. I absolutely loved this! So good. It paired well with the garlic cheese naan. We also enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Kabab, Vegetable Samosa. We all thought the Chicken Momo was just "ok". We'd probably skip this and try something else on the next visit. SERVICE The staff is friendly and patient. They checked on us regularly throughout the meal. I appreciated that they loaned us their wine opener (since we had forgotten to bring one). BOTTOM LINE A satisfying first time experience. We'll be ordering the garlic cheese naan and the butter chicken on the next visit for sure. Recommended.

So I decided to order a couple of items and keep my cost down and get a treat. I waited patiently for the restaurant was full and there were patrons, people waiting for take out and uber drivers in and out. I took a seat and waited and waited. The staff was cordial and polite. My issue was when I went home. I ordered the lamb rogan dish which had literally 2 one inch pieces of meat and the rest was sauce. I mean, I loved the flavor and loved the sauce but 2 pieces of meat? You charge a hefty price for this. I feel at least 5 pieces of meat and sauce would be ok for the price we pay. Anyhow, the rest of the meal was absolutely delicious.

We placed an order ahead of time and after having difficulties with parking and the doors, they had more than enough time to have our order ready. They didn't have any patrons in there and I can only guess that's because they had just opened. So the wait time threw me. As for the quality of the food, I'd say it's mid. I lived in northern India for a year and I've become snobby about quality Indian cuisine. We ordered samosas, naan, yellow curry, tiki masala and dal over rice. It was mid. We ordered the Butter Chicken Spicy too, but it fell a bit short. That being said, the flavor of both dishes was very good. We both thought the Garlic Naan was perfect! They have wine, prosecco, and beer too. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't offer Indian Beers such as Flying Horse or Taj. I would return, but would probably check out a few of the other options in the area too.

We requested that our dishes be prepared with a milder spice level, which turned out to be a great choice because we were able to fully appreciate all the wonderful spices and flavors. We ordered the special mixed kebab biryani platter, which included shrimp, chicken, and lamb served over a bed of biryani rice. The presentation was impressive! We also ordered the fish tandoori, which came in a flavorful curry sauce that my family absolutely loved. As a special treat, the chef prepared another fish dish for us in a coconut curry style. The taste was immaculate--rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. We couldn't stop dipping our stuffed cheesy naan into the curry sauce. None of us wanted that dish to end--we wished we had ordered more! A nice bonus is that many of these special dishes can be made upon request. Just contact the restaurant ahead of time, and they will gladly prepare them for your visit. Our servers were fantastic as well. They constantly made sure we were taken care of, refilling water, bringing extra napkins, and providing boxes when needed. With the new décor in place, the restaurant feels bright, welcoming, and inviting. It is a smaller space, so tables are fairly close together, but that only adds to the cozy atmosphere--you might even make friends with fellow diners. Overall, Cafe Maharani continues to be my go-to spot for authentic Indian cuisine!

This brought back memories of my experience here YEARS ago. Located in Nuuanu, just a few minutes by foot from Maemae School, GVB has been offering since 1991, a healthy dining option in a peaceful setting inside ISKCON Hawai'i Temple. They offer an AYCE option weekdays from 11am to 230pm. Upon arrival, my friends and I immediately noticed the calm atmosphere in the beautiful gardens of this Hare Krishna Temple. After paying for our meal we sat down on community long tables in their cozy dining room. The buffet line had a decent selection where standouts were the vegetarian lasagna, assorted curries and the fresh vegetables. Menu offerings change daily where notables include vegetarian lasagna, lentil nut loaf, samosas, quiche, assorted curries and halva. There's also mint ginger water and water offered. Service here is limited as it's pretty much do it yourself. So why only 4 stars? Food was nothing outstanding and the food temperature was not hot as I would have preferred. Eating some dishes such as curries, samosas and papadum would have better if eaten hot. Overall, my friends and I had a great experience here at GVB where I was finally able to try them. This is not a place I'd initiate a get together but wouldn't object if friends wanted to come here. Better late than never.
