I've eaten here a handful of times already. What keeps me coming back? Well apart from wonderful service, I appreciate the bold, authentic flavors this place specializes in. As one who has spent weeks crisscrossing India, I was incredibly saddened by the lack of authentic Indian on Oahu. That is until this place opened. Today I ordered the turkey and mixed meat plate, but I've tried the oxtails several times (a major fan) as well as other dishes. If you do not like intense, authentic Indian flavors then this place won't be for you. Otherwise, come and enjoy the great cooking found here. I love South Asian food, so it's always exciting when a new spot opens. This one has been around a long time mostly at markets, but now they've moved to a permanent spot. It's located behind Walmart, so it's a great option for takeout in a busy area. They have free parking right inside the gate. The restaurant doesn't feel fully comfortable for dining in, it's really more of a takeout spot. They do have a few tables for singles or small groups. Inside the door is the counter, with various dishes either kept hot or cold. Most of the foods are meant to be ordered as a combo tray with rice, sides, and bread. We decided to try it and order a bunch of things to share, which was a fun way to see their items. They have a whole cold bar of various fresh toppings and sauces as well. Everything is homemade on site, including all sauces. Breads like naan and roti are made to order, so be sure to order ahead if you're in a rush. They have more sauces, homemade lassi, and other drinks for purchase too. I had a mango one, it was light and delicious. I tried two different veggie curries, plus an order of samosas which came with its own sauce too. The portion sizes may look small at first, but they're very filling and well worth the reasonable prices. The highlight is really the owner, warmly welcoming and friendly, plus patient to talk through all the ingredients and flavors of her foods. A very tasty Indian meal close to Walmart/Sam's/Ala Moana. Set up is cafeteria style where you can pick your rice & sides. The owner was very helpful in explaining what each item was and offered samples if you wanted to try before committing. Interior was clean and there is parking in the property. Food was flavorful and each had a different spice level. I found the Chana masala to be spicier than the butter chicken, but not unbearable. Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... We passed by this new business and decided to try it. Biryani King features Indian cuisine. We went on a Sunday which is their brunch day... that's why they had no Butter Chicken... shucks! The woman serving the food tried to explain each dish. We asked her if it was spicy and she replied that the flavors are "balanced". Hmm... Later, she told another customer that everything was spicy... She offered us samples, so I tried the beef nihari which was spicy for me. I was hoping that the lentil dish, vegetable rice, and the saag wouldn't be spicy, but they all had a kick. I finished off the Naan to neutralize my mouth. This was a pleasant environment, but I didn't feel much air-conditioning. Biryani King just celebrated being open for two weeks. Set up cafeteria style, for about $20 a plate, first choose your rice, there is Chicken Biryani. Veggie Biryani, and Basmati. Then choose two accompaniments. Tonight there were five meat options including Butter Chicken, Beef Handi, and Oxtail, plus three vegetarian options, Aloo Gajar Matar, Lentils, and Beans. It was a pleasant surprise that there was beef on the menu. You can also add-on Roti or Naan and get a canned soft drink. Happy to say with "biryani" in their name, we liked the rice the best. The Veggie Biryani was still moist and full of sautéed onions, peas, carrots, and beans. The curries were a mixed bag, with some of them having a scorched pot taste and some seemed over reduced, maybe from been held hot for a while. Staff are helpful and friendly, plus they have their own parking lot making it easy to give them a try. read more

Some spice in my life... Did you noticed something spicy down on Sheridan Street yes Biryani King is right behind Wal Mart so Nadine C and I decided to check them out. Though limited they do have parking right beside the building they do have some security features but don't worry as they said it's fine to park there and as we entered loved the golden curtains that gave the mysterious vibe as I entered and was quite surprised that it wasn't quite the table service restaurant that I had imagined in fact you order right at the food service counter as the lady was very kind to describe each and every entree items are. What I was disappointed was they didn't have Butter Chicken which my usual go to dish so I was confused when they have a menu but offers limited items daily so don't even pay attention tot he menu as it's not what they offered on a regular basis. She does gives samples though if you liked to try before you commit which I do encourage you to do so but wished that she had signs of the items offering versus going over each item which was time consuming as she told each guest different answers as I asked if it was spicy she said it wasn't and told some guy later that it was a little spicy. Well I got the Veggie Biryani and Lamb dish and a Beef dish I couldn't tell you the exact item name as I had not clue by then as it's served in a take out plate even for dine in and we pay later once we're done eating. Slightly different style but delicious food oh and we ordered garlic naan which was very delicious so warm and freshly made that was a must have more than the rice to scoop up all the goodness that was cooked for hours to get that rich consistency. This cafeteria style restaurant I saw while driving out of Walmart. I had to try it! Any new restaurant that brings in a new Punjabi style soul food, I had to try it. I had their lamb and oxtail dish. It was so delicious. Both meats were tender which isn't accomplished in most restaurants. The lamb was spicy and the oxtail dish was tasty!! It was just my self so I could try too much but I will definitely come back. They have been open for four days and don't have menus yet. Supposedly arriving sometime today. Guys, they just opened and everything is new. So far the little I tasted is delicious. I spoke with Mrs. Hameed who is cooking all the amazing food. She says she'll be offering catering sizes as well. She is a sweet lady wanting to provide home cooked dishes from her homeland. It's like being welcomed into her home. She was so sweet .She's working hard! Maybe it should have been Biryani Queen!! She is definitely the Queen of her dishes! Can't wait to see a menu! Looking forward to returning . read more

Located right across the Walmart parking lot entrance and I always wondered about this place. It's more of a take out spot in my opinion with all of its curries and rice pre-made and displayed so you can just point and choose what you want and it's scooped into a container. The day we went they had 3 curries with different meats and 2 vegetable curries. The curries weren't very spicy and because they are all pre-made they don't get served super temperature hot either. I think the portion size is not bad but definitely heavy on the rice over the curry. Service was great and there was no one inside when we went. We did decide to dine in which they do have a couple of tables if you decide to do so. The curry wasn't very flavorful and I wish it was spicier but I like that you can eat quickly and still get your Indian food fix. read more

New, take out style Indian restaurant in Honolulu. There are a few tables inside if you want to enjoy your food there. Otherwise, everything is to go. We tried: vegetable biryani; butter chicken; goat; chickpeas (chana masala?); potatoes/carrots/peas (aloo matar gajar?); banana lassi. We'd never had goat before and were pleasantly surprised. The butter chicken was prepared differently than we'd expected - sauce is usually thicker/creamier and sweeter. This sauce was thinner and not as sweet, but we all liked it. The aloo matar gajar had a nice amount of heat. Overall, everything was delicious and we weren't disappointed. Being new, there are clearly some kinks that need to be worked out. For example, they could benefit from some signage - letting customers know how and what to order. However, the woman there very pleasantly and patiently explained the options and answered all our questions. It looked primarily like a one woman operation (owner/cook/server/cashier). Support local businesses! Located across Walmart - on the Sheridan Street side. Dedicated parking (5 or 6 stalls). But there is typically plenty of street parking in this area. Me and a friend went for lunch. The portions are small for the price. We spent 60 bucks excluding tip for 1 garlic naan, 2 entrees, 1 roti, 1 zeera rice, and 2 soft drinks. Entrees were butter chicken and oxtail stew. The oxtail were really tough and not braised enough. Saw another customer told the staff it was too tough as well. The flavors were good but I prefer more spices in the dishes. Overall verdict is it is expensive for ok Indian food. read more

The food was delicious; definitely soul food and cooked from the heart. My boyfriend and I heard about this place through instagram. We like to explore new flavors and open to trying any place that has ethnic/authentic cultural foods and this place did not disappoint! I think the lady who helped us up front is also the cook but she took care of us. Good Pakistan/Indian food is a rare find here in Hawaii. I went here for Sunday brunch. The food was fantastic! The biryani rice was perfectly prepared, there was so much variety, but everything I tasted was so delicious. My favorite was the mustard greens, but the chickpea dishes and the chicken and lamb had so much flavor. The mango lassi was just sweet enough. The service was very friendly and helpful. Cafeteria style Indian so everything is ready to eat. I got a bento with vegetable biryani, dal, and aloo matar gajar. Everything was packed with flavor. She was not shy with the spices and it made the difference. Easily in my top 3 Indian food restaurants on the island (as far as vegan dishes go). The place is being run by the owner/chef so service may take a bit longer during the busiest hours but it was fast for me! read more
