Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... We passed by this new business and decided to try it. Biryani King features Indian cuisine. We went on a Sunday which is their brunch day... that's why they had no Butter Chicken... shucks! The woman serving the food tried to explain each dish. We asked her if it was spicy and she replied that the flavors are "balanced". Hmm... Later, she told another customer that everything was spicy... She offered us samples, so I tried the beef nihari which was spicy for me. I was hoping that the lentil dish, vegetable rice, and the saag wouldn't be spicy, but they all had a kick. I finished off the Naan to neutralize my mouth. This was a pleasant environment, but I didn't feel much air-conditioning. I appreciated the free, private parking lot and wish this new business all the best!

Some spice in my life... Did you noticed something spicy down on Sheridan Street yes Biryani King is right behind Wal Mart so Nadine C and I decided to check them out. Though limited they do have parking right beside the building they do have some security features but don't worry as they said it's fine to park there and as we entered loved the golden curtains that gave the mysterious vibe as I entered and was quite surprised that it wasn't quite the table service restaurant that I had imagined in fact you order right at the food service counter as the lady was very kind to describe each and every entree items are. What I was disappointed was they didn't have Butter Chicken which my usual go to dish so I was confused when they have a menu but offers limited items daily so don't even pay attention tot he menu as it's not what they offered on a regular basis. She does gives samples though if you liked to try before you commit which I do encourage you to do so but wished that she had signs of the items offering versus going over each item which was time consuming as she told each guest different answers as I asked if it was spicy she said it wasn't and told some guy later that it was a little spicy. Well I got the Veggie Biryani and Lamb dish and a Beef dish I couldn't tell you the exact item name as I had not clue by then as it's served in a take out plate even for dine in and we pay later once we're done eating. Slightly different style but delicious food oh and we ordered garlic naan which was very delicious so warm and freshly made that was a must have more than the rice to scoop up all the goodness that was cooked for hours to get that rich consistency. I hope that they have a daily menu so that we know what we can find on certain days but a lovely spot that serves up comfort food right here in town. Thank you!

This cafeteria style restaurant I saw while driving out of Walmart. I had to try it! Any new restaurant that brings in a new Punjabi style soul food, I had to try it. I had their lamb and oxtail dish. It was so delicious. Both meats were tender which isn't accomplished in most restaurants. The lamb was spicy and the oxtail dish was tasty!! It was just my self so I could try too much but I will definitely come back. They have been open for four days and don't have menus yet. Supposedly arriving sometime today. Guys, they just opened and everything is new. So far the little I tasted is delicious. I spoke with Mrs. Hameed who is cooking all the amazing food. She says she'll be offering catering sizes as well. She is a sweet lady wanting to provide home cooked dishes from her homeland. It's like being welcomed into her home. She was so sweet .She's working hard! Maybe it should have been Biryani Queen!! She is definitely the Queen of her dishes! Can't wait to see a menu! Looking forward to returning .

Located right across the Walmart parking lot entrance and I always wondered about this place. It's more of a take out spot in my opinion with all of its curries and rice pre-made and displayed so you can just point and choose what you want and it's scooped into a container. The day we went they had 3 curries with different meats and 2 vegetable curries. The curries weren't very spicy and because they are all pre-made they don't get served super temperature hot either. I think the portion size is not bad but definitely heavy on the rice over the curry. Service was great and there was no one inside when we went. We did decide to dine in which they do have a couple of tables if you decide to do so. The curry wasn't very flavorful and I wish it was spicier but I like that you can eat quickly and still get your Indian food fix.

Healthy, clean and delicious food. Owner cooks all the food and she is very kind. Biryani is tasty. New addition, chicken tikka is the best on the islands. Plenty of free parking.

    Oxtail

The best thing is the cook talks story with you. And share a little about her life. Her oxtail was soooo yummy. Falls right off the bone. And don't get me started on the flavor. We will definitely be visiting again. We had butter chicken & beef combo and my daughter and I both had oxtail.

Free parking in their private lot.

We placed an order ahead of time and after having difficulties with parking and the doors, they had more than enough time to have our order ready. They didn't have any patrons in there and I can only guess that's because they had just opened. So the wait time threw me. As for the quality of the food, I'd say it's mid. I lived in northern India for a year and I've become snobby about quality Indian cuisine. We ordered samosas, naan, yellow curry, tiki masala and dal over rice. It was mid. I always give a new (for me) spot three tries before I write anything, but since I was a traveler I'd be remiss if I didn't write something up.

Eventually, we called the restaurant and they told us to look for Namaste. Overall, solid Indian Food. I ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh extra spicy, but it lacked a little heat. We ordered the Butter Chicken Spicy too, but it fell a bit short. That being said, the flavor of both dishes was very good. We both thought the Garlic Naan was perfect! They have wine, prosecco, and beer too. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't offer Indian Beers such as Flying Horse or Taj. I would return, but would probably check out a few of the other options in the area too.

We requested that our dishes be prepared with a milder spice level, which turned out to be a great choice because we were able to fully appreciate all the wonderful spices and flavors. We ordered the special mixed kebab biryani platter, which included shrimp, chicken, and lamb served over a bed of biryani rice. The presentation was impressive! We also ordered the fish tandoori, which came in a flavorful curry sauce that my family absolutely loved. As a special treat, the chef prepared another fish dish for us in a coconut curry style. The taste was immaculate--rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. We couldn't stop dipping our stuffed cheesy naan into the curry sauce. None of us wanted that dish to end--we wished we had ordered more! A nice bonus is that many of these special dishes can be made upon request. Just contact the restaurant ahead of time, and they will gladly prepare them for your visit. Our servers were fantastic as well. They constantly made sure we were taken care of, refilling water, bringing extra napkins, and providing boxes when needed. With the new décor in place, the restaurant feels bright, welcoming, and inviting. It is a smaller space, so tables are fairly close together, but that only adds to the cozy atmosphere--you might even make friends with fellow diners. Overall, Cafe Maharani continues to be my go-to spot for authentic Indian cuisine!

While eavesdropping the conversation between some colleagues who were discussing their lunch plans…read morethe other day, it was discovered they were heading over to Govinda's Vegetarian Buffet (GVB). This brought back memories of my experience here YEARS ago. Located in Nuuanu, just a few minutes by foot from Maemae School, GVB has been offering since 1991, a healthy dining option in a peaceful setting inside ISKCON Hawai'i Temple. They offer an AYCE option weekdays from 11am to 230pm. Upon arrival, my friends and I immediately noticed the calm atmosphere in the beautiful gardens of this Hare Krishna Temple. After paying for our meal we sat down on community long tables in their cozy dining room. The buffet line had a decent selection where standouts were the vegetarian lasagna, assorted curries and the fresh vegetables. Menu offerings change daily where notables include vegetarian lasagna, lentil nut loaf, samosas, quiche, assorted curries and halva. There's also mint ginger water and water offered. Service here is limited as it's pretty much do it yourself. So why only 4 stars? Food was nothing outstanding and the food temperature was not hot as I would have preferred. Eating some dishes such as curries, samosas and papadum would have better if eaten hot. Overall, my friends and I had a great experience here at GVB where I was finally able to try them. This is not a place I'd initiate a get together but wouldn't object if friends wanted to come here. Better late than never.
