Nepali and Indian cuisine in Chinatown... A refreshing twist in from the usually Asian foods found in the area and why not take a tour and dip into the variety that we're lucky to have here in Hawaii though not the expert in this type of foods as I haven't been in the region or have experience the culture but knew that I'd be in for some spice in my life. This newer shop is more an express rather than the dine in like the other location and is found in Maunakea Marketplace in the heart of Chinatown which makes it easy to access as there are multiple entrances as I found parking right on N King Street so it was just walking through Kekaulike getting there. Thank you Nadine for the suggestion especially Sunday though crowded is free parking so it's a matter of finding the spot which I did so it was a easy stroll and find as it's grouped with other food stalls and the vibe is relaxing with a few tables available so that enjoying your bite is easy in the shaded area versus in the hot sun. I know the volume they so generously portion out so it was just the single plate for me and an easy choice of Butter Chicken along with rice it was a yummy paring and the kind gentleman asked if I wanted vegetables which I did started to prepare some to order and it was nice side along with my meal. The express style is very fast and convenient and though there are some language barrier the staff was so pleasant it's nice to see that many come here to enjoy something that's not usually found in the area. Thank you!

Brand new Indian Buffet next to Maguro bros in the Maunakea food court. Everything we tried was good but I should have ordered it more spicy. Prices were fair and service was friendly.

An absolute gem in the heart of Honolulu's Chinatown. Himalayan Kitchen on Maunakea Street is soooo bomb, with the best flavors and so many options!! Every dish had a perfect balance of spices, and the portions were generous. We got the garlic naan, an assortment of yummy sauces, and the mix tandoori - a combination of tandoor chicken, charred shrimp, lamb, and fish that I absolutely adored. If you're in Chinatown, don't miss out on this hidden treasure. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!

Their closed didn't last to long. Over priced and not very good Indian food. Not the ideal restaurant for downtown area.

There are two sections to Nico's - a take out are where you can order poke, poke bowls, Hawaiian food, as well as fresh fish; also available are beer in a cooler and wine. Next door is a busy restaurant with a full bar. My sister and I wanted some poke and based on her friend's recommendation, we decided to visit. I ordered the special ultimate poke bowl (three fish selection) and it's amazing where there is more poke than rice! My sister's choice was also tasty. As we were checking out, the young cashier stated we could eat next door in the restaurant - wow, a pleasant surprise. It was during lunch so the restaurant was busy, but we found a seat. What's goes great with great fresh poke? Great fresh poke + beer, which was available at the bar! A great combination. Located off of Nimitz, Nico's is located on the far end of a converted warehouse, close to the pier, park and walk. It's worth visiting.

(3/5) Garlic chicken bites / average - crunchy but a little bland Edamame / fresh but average Monchong (catch of the day) the fish was fresh but the seasoning was bland Steak fritters- the steak was well cooked and flavorful, but the fries were way over salted and tasted previously frozen. (2/5) The burger - the patties had too much filling and not enough "burger". I got the side salad instead of fries and it's just green leaf lettuce, a little wilted, withe house dressing, and the dressing is not great. Desert slices are small and cost 8.50-13.00 (go down the road to Liliha Bakery instead) Vanilla Caramel Crunch cake - there wasn't a real "crunch" and the caramel layer in the top is way too thick. Chocolate cake - too dense Mango cheesecake - too tart

People were staking out tables more than an hour before the show, and when the patio was being cleared, there was a line of people waiting to put down their names. We were fortunate to grab a table in the upper deck area (it's not clearly labeled, but the circular tables by the bar are first-come, first-serve), and we ordered some drinks and appetizers while we waited. Yes, the prices are higher and portion sizes are smaller than what you get, but it's for the view and entertainment. Our servers were attentive and were very good about refilling our water cups, which I really appreciated. Henry Kapono was great, and after we were done with our meal, we went out to the patio to join folks who were enjoying the music. People were dancing in front of the stage area, socializing with other guests, and enjoying the wonderful weather, drinks, and music. What more can you ask for when you're visiting Hawaii? :)

Although in a weird spot, I promise the food is worth it! I personally have never had this type of Mexican food before. I'm used to chimichangas, enchiladas, street tacos so I was really out of my comfort zone here. But, I'm so glad it gave it a try because it was delicious! My friends & I came here for lunch and it was pretty busy. The line to order was out the door! I already knew I wanted Da OG Tostada with the infamous blue crab dip and shrimp ceviche. It was soooo refreshing & citrusy! The ceviche and well with the crab dip. The tostada was super crunchy despite all the juices from the dip and ceviche. My friends ordered the Kiawe Smoked Marlin tacos and the Ahi Tostada. They said they were delicious as well. The marlin was smoked and deep fried. The ahi was super fresh and the portions were generous! Lastly, we got chips and salsa and chips and guacamole. The salsa was on the saucier side (not chunky) and had a little bit of a kick to it. The guacamole was so good! You could taste the onions they added in it. The chips though. Omg. They were super crispy and perfect for dipping. Overall, although this was my first time, my friends said everything they've tried has been phenomenal! I'll have to come back to try more!

Of the two, we surprisingly ended up liking the latter more, as it had more of an Asian flair to it, whereas the OG tostada just tasted like traditional ceviche. Each tostada came with a generous amount of fish, which made the pricing more worth it. Although the tostadas were good, we didn't care for the steak quesadilla, nor the Mexican rice. The rice tasted oddly charred and smoky, which was not at all what we were expecting. It was honestly hard to finish. We tried mentioning it to the staff, but they seemed dismissive. Also, the parking is a hot mess here! There's literally only three small lanes that can fit two to three cars per lane for tandem parking.

As for the poke, which I did get this time, they let me sample the California, Hawaiian, spicy ahi, and another one which I actually bought but forgot the name. It looks similar to spicy ahi without the super spice. All the poke was super fresh and tasty. The guys working the counter was super nice and they're cutting the fish fresh. Some steamed, some deep fried. It looked so good we had to come back another day. Spoke with the gentleman running the counter and he told us to go to the adjacent seafood monger (same company) and pick your fish. They have all kinds to pick from including shrimp, clams and oysters. Some fish are better suited for steaming versus deep frying. For the most part deep fried fish is delicious but most fish deep fried will lose its fresh taste. The monger said the Onaga fish will have a firm texture when steamed. Once you pick the fish they take it back to the kitchen to prepare it. Pricing is based on the fish per pound and then they add on $10-$20 for the preparation. We ordered a 1.8 lb Onaga fish whole "long tailed red snapper" Steamed... I'm telling you it was fantastic! fresh and flavorful. Got a bowl of white rice as well... dang it was good! The seating area is narrow but a vibrant scene. Was packed and lots of folks ordering from the various other food vendors in the space. Give them a try!

It had great flavor without overpowering the freshness of the fish. - The wasabi ahi was also good, but be prepared for a strong wasabi kick that definitely clears your sinuses. - I also tried the Hawaiian ahi, which was a little too mild for my taste. - The miso tako ended up being my least favorite because it leaned much sweeter than I expected. Next time I'd probably go with the shoyu instead since I was looking for a bit more flavor. One thing they absolutely get right is the fish itself. It's incredibly fresh, buttery, and almost melt in your mouth tender. Compared to other well-known poke spots, I actually preferred the quality and flavor of the fish here. The only reason I'm taking off one star is the rice. They use regular jasmine rice, and I really think sushi rice would make a huge difference. Since poke is essentially fish and rice, the rice should complement the fish instead of feeling like an afterthought. Service was quick and straightforward. You tell them what you want, they build your bowl, you pay, and you're on your way. The shop itself is very small with no indoor seating, just a couple of outdoor tables, so I'd consider this more of a grab-and-go spot than a place to dine in. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the freshness of the fish alone. With sushi rice, this place would be even better.
