My go to leather store in the greater seattle area. I've owned and operated a leather goods manufacturing and retail store for the past 10 years. This is the only store I frequent, and I've been to them all. The employees are very friendly and eager to help you. Ask them questions about leatherwork! They know their stuff. I just went into this store and the staff was very very helpful! I found exactly what I needed EXCEPT I called back to ask a question I later thought of and the lady who answered was EXTREMELY rude. I guess it depends on who you're talking to here. Otherwise it is a nice place to go for leathers. Are you looking for a an inexpensive custom belt, purse or any other leather good. Tandy has it with a small catch, you have to make it yourself. I've been getting leather from Tandy since I was a teenager. I stopped there last to get components for a new leash for the daughters dog. Now, I guess I have to make it! These people are the BEST! They know their leather and treat you like a person. It doesn't matter if you've come in only a couple times before they will endeavor to remember you and your projects or needs. If they don't have something they will call all across the country to other Tandy Leather stores in efforts to find what you need. They offer FREE classes on their tools, leather working and tips on any project you are personally working on if you ask. These people aren't "pushy sales men". They will offer you other option for tools, or tool bundles to save you a buck, or from buying something unnecessary. I love going here! read more

Really disappointed. They were remodeling the day we came and some crabby old woman decided to lecture me about my child crawling on the displays, Literally as I opened the door to walk in. Needless to say my son is extremely well behaved and didn't even have to be asked not to touch anything. I have ordered thousands of dollars in tandy products but I won't be anymore. MacPhersons Leather in Seattle has a much better selection and way better prices. Like 5$ cheaper for a better quality Concho. You have lost our business. Crabby old bat! read more

Very interesting leather works shop with everything you need to get started on leather projects. You can start off with easy kits to make your own belt or wallet. Or, if you are more advanced and want to make some cool leather masks (mardi gras style) or other projects, this is a great supply and equipment store. They close at 4:00 pm on Saturdays and I only had 35 min to drive to the store from Redmond, WA. I called to see if they would stay open for me if I was late. They said they would. Drove faster than I should and was there 10 minutes before closing. The staff was very knowledgeable and gave me lots of tips on my project. While I was there they had a rush of customers and they kept the door open helping everyone out. From what I could tell this store has everything you need for leather work. read more

Super duper duper helpful in there. We were encouraged to go to Tandy over Mcpherson's and I am really glad we did. Only reason I didn't go 5 stars is I was hoping for more scraps. But they have way more tools, kits and findings. I was inspired. Service didn't even compare to McP's. I seriously don't think they could have been any friendlier/helpful. They will answer your questions/show you how to do whatever you are questioning. They also have a day where you can bring in your projects and work with their help. I was lost and they were very helpful and getting me direction. After I found the store and went in. I found out that customer service and the manager Andy was super! There had been a mixed up with an Internet order and he took care of it and refunded my shipping charges. They also offer free question and answer class on leather project on how to get started. My summer crafts project this year is to make a pair of moccasins. I watched a youtube video that gave explicit step by step instructions, including on how to purchase the leather. "Choose a local reputable leather store. Take your patterns in, and purchase the size you will need. Often, friendly staff will help you cut out the large patterns, saving time later." Having read the other reviews, most noting that the staff are friendly, I chose to frequent Tandy leather, since I was planning on buying all my tools and other supplies there as well. After stepping through the door, an older man immediately approached me and asked if I needed help. I explained that I need some leather, and after a minute, he cut in. "We have a problem." he said. "I don't cut leather. I only sell the whole hides. If I cut the leather to sell, I'd end up with nothing but strips and scraps..." (The hides are priced by the square yard, but not sold by the square yard. It just blew my mind). I realized I needed to think about it, and left, but as I was leaving the store, I realized that there were two large bins near the front of the store...filled with cut scrap leather pieces. I was puzzled by the incongruity, and turned back, and saw the man smiling, and I realized that not only had he barefaced lied to me, he was very, very good at it, and I realized what had made me uncomfortable...the soulless look in his eyes...this man is probably the kind of person where something terrible happens, and then afterward everyone says "but he was so nice". Thusly, if you are a pretty girl, or an attractive little boy, I would stay away from this store, or, pay cash so they don't get your name or address. Do not accept any "drinks", or offers to "visit the back room", unless you want to wake up with a headache hearing a voice that says "it puts the lotion on its skin". Madness, but still, better safe than sorry in this day and age. TL;DR, looking for a reputable leather store, found a disreputable one, narrowly avoided being raped/murdered. read more
