Walk into Tangies and take a jump back into time. The ambience is like your great grandmas western eclectic living room meets diner, with carpeted floors and all. My family and I decided to stop by and try The restaurant out for the first time. We went on a Saturday late morning. Service was not great, very obvious that staff is friendlier to its regulars. The food was hot and made to order and appeared to be cooked properly. The taste of the food was decent but not amazing. From our booth we could see straight into the kitchen and witnessed the main cook eating fries while they cooked and the other eating a banana while she did the finances. Which would be fine if they were doing so at a table on break or something and not while they're cooking other people's food. If you've been coming to Tangie's for decades, like many of the patrons that filled the restaurant this past Saturday morning, then you are likely used to the food and come here in spite of it. You're likely returning because of nostalgia and it's the hangout that you and your buddies have been gracing since your glory days way back before the internet. For the rest of us, let me set some expectations. It's an old, divey place that has décor similar to your grandmothers' kitchen. Not a bad thing; in fact-it adds to the charm. Seat yourself and you'll be served pretty quickly. The food leaves a bit to be desired. My wife and I ordered breakfast-eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns and pancakes. The pancakes and bacon were pretty good, but the rest was...rough. The hash browns were cold and had a strange consistency, as did the eggs. Service was quick and attentive, if not overly friendly. But one server was taking care of everyone, and called several guests by name. So, like I said-if you're a regular and don't mind the food, good on ya. Service is friendly. The hot cocoa was cool enough to drink. The coffee is very watered down. The garbage potatoes were super lemony and definitely premade. The mushrooms were mushy. Talk about Down to earth Hometown diner! This is an amazing place, you are treated like the locals who come here daily. As an old diner, the place is clean with bright lighting and inviting, where the servers know their regular's names and what they usually order. The interior was warm, but odd. Tables were close together, floor covered in thick carpet. And that bathroom, small and complicated. With the enormous growth American Fork has seen over the last several years it has lost the small, hometown vibe. However, once you pass through these doors of Tangie's you are brought back a couple of decades to how it would have felt in Small Town USA. You'll be entertained by the locals who come and all who know each other well. The waitress seems to know everyone by name. The food wasn't anything that I felt I needed to write about -- although I only get club sandwiches at these sorts of restaurants. My husband got the garbage hashbrowns (half order was plenty) and he liked those. Love the ambiance -- not so sure I have ever dined in a restaurant clad in lush carpet on the floor. I wish I could give zero stars. Honestly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. To start off it smelled like a sewer inside. We ordered a few minutes after we sat down at approximately 12:45 (two omelets and scones). We waited and waited and waited, while every single person who came in after us got their food and the cooks were out making small talk with everyone. Finally at 1:20 we decided we'd walk out if we didn't get our food by 1:30. We finally were given our food right at 1:30. It was room temperature, bland, and just flat out disgusting. This place is all about being local & low key. It has the feel of a 1970's diner inside and probably just as rundown but that's part of the charm. Food is standard meat & potatoes diner food with lots of traditional breakfast options and burgers. The food is fine and the service is decent. If you are looking for a upscale breakfast or brunch experience - this is not the place! But Tangie's isn't trying to be that type of place in any shape or form. It's chill, a bit on the trashy side, and average diner food but there's a cool old school vibe to it. I could see grandma taking her young grandkids out for breakfast here and the kids loving it. Tangie's is a true home town diner. Comfort food and lots of it. I could never call it a greasy spoon cause it wouldn't be true. The food has some slight varience but is always well prepared. I have eaten here dozens of times and have never had food issues later in the day. They have their regulars and they are a hoot. The "old guard" has their usual tables and if you get a chance to sit near them to evesdrop, do as they are colorful and entertaining. My favorite there is the French toast. Always well prepared and they have sugar free syrup. If you ask for eggs over medium well, you stand a pretty good chance that's eggzactly what you'll get. I have mixed feelings about leaving a review as I kind of want to keep this slice of fading Americana to myself. I have been wanting to try this place for about 15 years. Finally made it a couple of weeks ago. It's one of the better breakfast spots. A hidden gem really. The decorations are corny and there's pretty thick carpet for a restaurant floor. Service was awesome. Food was good as could be expected but the HASHBROWNS! Seems like a popular hangout for older locals who want to sit a while and catch up on what's happening in American Fork. I read both good and bad reviews of Tangie's and decided to try them when passing through Spanish Fork this morning. I ordered a cheese omelet with hash browns, biscuit and gravy instead of toast, and coffee. They had all the COVID rules down--except the salt, pepper, Tabasco, etc in the tables already. Also every table appears to be open. And there was an older (crazy acting) guy in a tank top/wife beater type t-shirt making faces at me from the next table. Food was fine but dull. Cheddar-jack cheese in a thin rolled up omelet with little flavor. Biscuit out of a box probably Bridgford frozen. Gravy looked plain but tasted good. Had a few small chunks of sausage in it. I used it on the hash browns, that helped a lot. Overall everything passable but nothing special. For right at $9.90 including coffee before tax/tip it was about right. The reviews say sometimes fantastic, often nothing special. Today was the latter. They got busy about the time I was leaving. Full inside plus a number of takeaway orders. Could be the prices. My meal was higher than many they offered. It's worth a try if you're in the area. read more

Sad to say that we were pretty disappointed in our experience. We love local "hole-in-the-wall" diner type breakfast establishments and we were hoping to find a gem in Tangie's. Unfortunately, this restaurant was not for us. The food was subpar and the environment was not appealing. (We were literally seated uncomfortably with the back of my chair within 1 foot of another seated table. Each time I go, I am welcomed with a friendly salutation and invitation to take any open seat. I like their potatoes, which is large and has everything in it. Traditional breakfast dishes await and you won't be unsatisfied, either, when your order arrives at your table, piping hot and so delicious to the taste. I don't know why this place doesn't have better reviews! It is a hole in the wall so don't come in expecting a 5-star meal but I was still pleasantly surprised! It's one of the only places in the area open for brunch on Sundays and it's incredibly cheap! My husband and I each had a filling meal and we had scones (which I HIGHLY recommend trying) all for $18 after the tip. It wasn't gourmet but it was definitely good and the waitress was so helpful! I ended up coming here because I wanted a small town diner experience and frankly, I can say that Tangie's delivered. From the dexterous waitress exchanging surly quips with regulars to the menu, this is exactly what I thought a small diner in American Fork would be like. It was definitely a pleasant experience, but perhaps not enough of one to get me to drive over. THOUGH, if I lived nearby, I'd definitely stop by. I have issues figuring out how to rate places like these because honestly, the food wasn't that great, but it's not like I think people should avoid the place. It's definitely better than IHOP, at least the pancakes were, but it's not exactly exceptional, but not better than another chain which shall remain nameless. So really, food-wise, this was a solid 3, but I'll bump it up a half star for ambiance. Nothing like listening to banter to brighten my meal. Anyway, existential crisis aside, I ended up getting a half order of garbage hash browns and pancakes and eggs. The pancakes were the highlight of the plate. Light and not too dense. The hash browns lacked crispness, though I like the idea of the dish. The scrambled eggs were not great. Too dry for my taste. But, everything is fairly priced so I didn't feel overly sad about it. So, experience-wise, I discovered that, if you're like me, you wander in, stand awkwardly for a couple of minutes before being waved towards a table. Service was fairly good, though there was a little confusion about how to pay (you walk up to the kitschy counter and hand them money; you don't wait for your bill). Overall, fairly okay. First visit today. In short - highly recommend for a cowboy/diner breakfast. Was craving diner breakfast and it was nice to find a non-chain open around here on a Sunday. Most importantly, the pancakes were THE BEST I've ever had - similar to Cracker Barrel with crispy edges, but even lighter and fluffier. Started with a silver dollar pancake that came as a side choice with my combo of eggs, hash browns, and 3 thick bacon slices. Bacon was quality rather than skinny, greasy pieces of fat. The pancake was so good that I had to order another full size (huge) cake. Just wished they topped with real butter rather than margarine. Upgraded the hash browns to "garbage" style that had onions, bell peppers, bacon, ham, and sausage. It was a lot of food and I left zero crumbs. If my hunger factor is lower next time, I'll stick with the plain hash browns because my preference is crispy edges. Friend had an omelette which he said was good. My coffee and his soda were never left unattended and the service, including clearing of my many plates, was great. Very clean establishment, excellent condiments on tables from hot sauce options to flavored pancake syrup. Two of us arrived with a hunger factor of High and left full for $20. Menu is flexible enough to also offer plenty of options for less hungry patrons at much lower cost, good family venue. Old men sipping coffee and talking were the only customers when we walked in. This explains several of the other reviewers expressing discomfort upon crossing the threshold into this twilit zone. The walls are littered with cowboy sass about why it's unwise to argue with women. One sign tells you to sit your [picture of a donkey] down. I lol'ed. Furnishings are from the 80s/thrift store. This is an authentic Utah-cowboy hangout with simple and delicious diner food. When we came here for the first time, it was full of locals, mostly older customers with the old Utah twangy accent that seem to have been coming here for years. It's homey, cozy, and decked out in cowboy-themed quote signs (e.g. "There's [sic] many theories about arguin' with a woman... NONE of them WORK!") and little painted cartoon cows like in grandma's kitchen. I really liked being in the middle of this crowd. You know what they say about foreign restaurants, how you can tell they're more authentic when there aren't any white customers. Here, it's the baby boomers' joint and there aren't any visitors under 60. It's a nice little world. Everyone knows each other and the waitresses. One time I heard a customer say something about how hard the waitress worked and she responded, "You know me. I don't know how to take a break." The food is good. Our favorite weekend brunch spot. We love dive diners, the kind run by locals, with sassy waitresses that recognize you whenever you come in. There are the same 5 old guys every Sunday drinking coffee and arguing about old cowboy stories from their younger days. The decor is kitschy. The food here isn't anything fancy. It's down home cooking, but that's the reason it's the best! It's not over the top, it's the stuff your grandma or mama used to make for you on Sunday mornings. Favorite things I've tried so far: all the breakfast items, or the BLT. I get that at least every other time we go here. The only downside is they close at 6pm, since they open so early for the morning crowd. read more
