After nine years, I *finally* decided to propose to my girlfriend, and as any guy would, I wanted both the ring and the experience to be as special as possible. I started out at two local jewelers recommended to me, but each left me feeling like I just went to the big box jeweler that begins with the letter 'K' in the malls across America. Each tried to sell me a premade ring and said they could "modify" it to "make it custom" if I wanted. No thank you! I then went to Harry Merrill on the recommendation of a family member and met Rob and Nicole. What I experienced there was something entirely different. Starting with the stone(s) and building the setting, Rob advised on what would make the best ring, took the time to answer my 101 questions, and listened to everything that I wanted. I must add that I am pretty OCD about purchases that are much smaller than this, so you can imagine what I put Rob through! He was patient and kind the entire way and gently guided me in a direction that I did not think I wanted to go in at first, but looking back I am incredibly glad I took his advice. Once everything was set into motion, Nicole stayed in contact every step of the way and was so accommodating when I had questions or had to pop in to make a change, which there were numerous instances of. What I proposed with is a one-of-a-kind piece that is timeless, elegant, and stunning. My fiancée absolutely loves the ring, as do I. The blonde woman that is always there tries to give me this story that that's how long they last but I've had this $15k watch for 15 years and batteries have always lasted at least 2 years. I'm told to leave my watch, they will check it and it will be ready in 2 weeks. I pick it up in 2 weeks and am charged $70 for a battery, which any place else would charge $50 at most and what they charged me 7 months ago. I get about 2 blocks Ava and it's not showing the right time so I reset it and that didn't matter because my watch still didn't work at all. I bring it back and told to leave it and they will recheck it. I don't hear from them in a month (they never answer their phone) so I go in to pick up my watch and am told that it was not the batter and their watchmaker will get back to me with an estimate. They would not give me a $70 credit towards any repair even though they admit it hadn't needed the new battery. It's now been almost 2 months they've had my watch and still no diagnosis, estimate or call. When I went back to retrieve my watch, which I really need, they refused to give it back to me until I speak with their watchmaker who is only there a few hours a couple of days a week. On top of that I asked if I could get an estimate on the value of some herringbone chains. They gave me a lowball price and when I wouldn't sell them to them for so little they just tossed them all into one case instead of their individual boxes I brought them in. Of course they put all three in the smallest cases and shut the lid with half of one hanging out. Being herringbone, which kinks very easily now all 3 of my chains are irreparably kinked, unwearable and now only have the value of scrap gold about $500, when I had quotes from other jewelers that they would buy them for $750 each. Never go here they will hold your watch hostage, over charge you for things you don't need and ruin your jewelry if you refuse to let them rip you off.

This place felt legitimate, straightforward, and comfortable from the moment I walked in. What I especially liked was that multiple knowledgeable people were involved. I also asked if he could "polish it up," thinking he would clean and buff it. Instead, he removed the satin finish and replaced it with a high polish finish. This can be easily fixed, but the worst part is that when he changed the finish, he also REMOVED the milgrain detail that surrounded the outside of the ring. Still, the ring was still not circular. It was less bent than it was before, but still clearly bent. The guy--who is among the most rude an impolite individuals I've encountered in the retail business--quipped, "What did you expect? I only charged you $12." I've sent the ring off to the original jeweler to have the milgrain repaired. This guy's mistake has cost me $120.

After making idle chat about the ring, he told me some valuable tidbits about how I should sell him any gold I have lying around, and how I can buy most anything out of this catalog for a fraction of the cost. He also showed me some lovely pearls that were on sale. I left feeling somewhat concerned, but I got a call less than 48 hours later saying my ring was finished. When I picked it up, the ring looked lovely and shiny and all that good stuff. I have no idea if their services were pricey or not, but I was 100% satisfied with the transaction.

They even told me to go shopping around, being it was my first stop. Many stores later, i came right back and sold my rings to Larry. He offered me the best price for my rings, and made it so easy.
