Went to dinner on a Tuesday night. Was sort of busy but there were several open tables. Sat down and waited for someone to acknowledge us. After 15 minutes of having several waitresses pass by and say nothing we finally flagged someone down. Our waitress took our order but struggled. We received our appetizer well before our drinks every arrived. We had to flag another server down just to get them. Food arrived an it was ok. Went on a Thursday afternoon at 4:30. The negative reviews from this place made me put this place off for a while. However, it's so close to me, and sometimes I crave good old bar food. Atmosphere: Very open, large bar, tables kinda close together, dim lighting. Service: We were seated right away, and our server was very friendly and attentive. I loved that she had a handheld device that sent order back to the kitchen immediately. This allowed her to stop at multiple tables, without having to run back to a POS system. Food: Pretty much bar food through and through. Nothing fancy by any means. I was mostly craving sides and apps. -Southwest Egg Rolls: Yum! They were filled with the perfect ratio of beans, corn, cheese and chicken. Hot, gooey, flakey and crispy. -Tots: Crispy and delicious. -Loaded Fries: Could have been warmer. The cheese wasn't all that melted. They were still very good though. I might get them without the queso next time. Club Sandwich: Pretty good. Good amount of bacon and turkey. Sadly they are open during the covid-19 pandemic. During this pandemic restaurants should only be open for delivery and carry out. Not here - they are open for drinking too. When I stopped in there were six people sitting at the bar drinking. And I do mean drinking. There were three guys at the end of the bar with a pile of shot glasses sitting in front of them along with their beers. While I waited for my take out the bartender was setting up more shots for them. They were not there for the food. I hope management reads this review and realizes what is going on at the restaurant during a time where we need to be practicing social distancing And self quarantine behavior. This tanners used to be a decent restaurant now it's completely ran down. Their famous chicken lips are my go to. They normally come with about 7-8 lightly breaded and juicy. My father just went today said the service was awful got two orders of chicken lips, even asked the lady how many came in the box she said 7-9 and in each box got 5 burnt tenders. The seating area was comfortable and nice, with TVs everywhere, sound from one of the football games, a game room (with a pinball machine, a golden tee game, two Cruisin' Blast games, and TVs), and a patio with TVs. Absolutely DISGUSTING staff. Went Saturday night with some friends. My friend got drinks at the bar and while she was waiting for her drinks a group of young drunk guys bumped into her and she spilled her drinks all over herself and the bar. When she went to pick up one of her shots she dropped it and walked away from the bar to drop off her other drinks. When she came back up to get a new one the bartender accused her of throwing it at her. Which she would never do being a bartender herself. The bartender then continued to talk crap about my friend. Then at the end of the night she was looking at the couple of bartenders that were standing and talking to a woman sitting at the bar. They were talking about her. The shorter brunette bartender yells across the bar "what the f*** are you looking at" We got up to go to the bathroom before leaving and when we were leaving finally the bartenders began screaming at her and telling her they wanted to fight her. This is disgusting. This location has gone absolutely downhill and there is obviously a lack of management. Just trashy to watch and embarrassing for the management and owners. Garbage. A lot of the softball community visits this location but after Saturday we will all be making sure no one goes there. read more

We use to frequent this Tanners when it was the only thing out here and we loved it. Over time, their service has slacked and food has gotten spotty. Instead of stepping up their game with all the new options in Shawnee, they seem to have thrown in the towel and be satisfied with overflow traffic on a busy night so we've stopped going in to eat. We gave them another try with carry out tonight and it sealed the deal that we're done. When my husband got home with our order and several things were missing, we called them back. The manager was put on and his response really says a lot about how it's deteriorated over the years. He never apologized, asked if my husband was gonna come back to pick it up and responded to my surprise at his lack of a simple apology with "most people check their order before leaving." Pretty disappointing. The only redeeming quality is the sweet bartender, who apologized profusely. Don't know his name, he's been there for years, and is always wonderful. read more

I want to like Tanner's, I really do. They're close to my home, and there's not much else in western Shawnee to choose from. The problem is that I feel like they're the only game out that way and don't really try to be better. First, I will say that I usually sit at the bar and every time I've done so, the staff has been very nice. I was even in on the Royals parade day, and it was just as other reviewers described. They were in the weeds... and I mean DEEP. I felt so bad I started bussing some tables. The bartender was busting her tail from what I saw, and even asked me to stop, but come on, when you're that far under-staffed, let me throw away some tissue paper and old food and stack your baskets. The food is standard bar fare. My biggest complaint is Thursday, i.e. "Steak Night." $11.99 gets you either a filet or a strip. At that price, it's not going to be Capital Grille. I know. However, I've been twice and both times medium came out well done, and what wasn't gristle, was so tough I thought about using it to resole my shoes. I understand it's a bar, but the special shouldn't be that close to inedible. Do yourself a favor and just get a burger, even if you went for the steak. Appearance: The bar looks like every other Tanner's, except it's never picked up. I've been in the afternoon on a dead day, I was there for the Royals celebration, I've been at night. Every time tables are in dire need of getting bussed and the carpeted floor is covered in crumbs, used napkins and spilled dressing. I can understand a bit when it's slammed, but on a dead afternoon? The servers need to be better or they need to hire a bus boy, or maybe have the hostess do it. I'd rather seat myself to clean table than be told to seat myself and have to try to find a table that's been wiped down in the last hour. If they'd keep the place a lot more clean, add a buck to the steak night special if it means higher quality meat and juice a few lemons and limes for fresh cocktails the place would be great. It doesn't surprise me that the reviews for this Tanner's range from 2 to 4 stars. It's a favorite hangout for some of our friends, so we end up here more frequently than I would like. For the most part, I think the food is ok, especially if you are craving a burger or chicken strips. There's usually a pretty decent drink special too. The staff is somewhat inconsistent, but most of the servers do well enough. If you are looking for decent food and a TV to watch a big game, this is a pretty good location. It's especially good for KU fans who enjoy nachos. You can't go wrong with Jayhawks or the nachos. read more

It was packed when everyone got there around 8:30 on a Saturday night. There were no spots for anyone, so I was a little frightened that my party would be ruined. However, the server said she would clean up some tables in the back room right away. She even did it herself, which I find absolutely amazing. We got our table for around twenty people in about 15 minutes. The server we had was awesome, she wasn't one of those frazzled snotty types either. Every couple minutes, there she was, alert and ready to serve us more and more alcohol, as much as we could afford I guess. I'll hand it to Tanner's - when they build a new one, people come. When their Shawnee location opened in spring '08, local residents eagerly formed long lines and filled the parking lot. Now, just a few months later, you never have to wait more than a minute or two for a table. I'd guess it's the wait staff that's put a damper on Tanner's business. I've had service ranging from mediocre to downright bad, and even though they should have the just-opened bugs out, the waitresses aren't getting any better. It's not rocket science to bring appetizers out before dinner, or to remember more than one request at a time from your table. Maybe that's why there are so many TVs - at least you have something to watch while you wait. Some of Tanner's hostesses need additional training too, because one of them seated my high-school age daughter and her friend for dinner, even though nobody under 21 is allowed to enter without a parent after 5 p.m. It's not that big of a deal to have evening age restrictions, but it's nice to let your customers know before they sit down. With four locations each on both sides of State Line and restaurant number nine in Omaha, Tanner's seems to be going strong. But if another bar and grill with average food and better-than-average service opens nearby, they'll give the Shawnee location a run for its money. read more
