    Dodge City Tavern Burger

Dodge City Tavern Burger: thick burger with fried onion rings, cheddar cheese, strips of mouth watering bacon, and their special BBQ sauce. My friends had ordered the French Dip sandwich. You can't go wrong with either one! I almost bought a bottle of BBQ sauce to bring with me because of how delicious it was. Screenshot of a photo taken of the curbside parking only sign with date and time.

Johnny's has long been my family's go-to for causal fare. Tonight, we decided to order takeout. I placed an order on the Johnny's website and was pleased to see curbside pickup was an option. It's been a long week, and I was happy to be able to stay in my car to pick up my family's meal. I placed the order and received a text that my order was ready, so I headed to the restaurant. I parked in one of the spots that is clearly marked "Curbside Parking Only," and waited. And waited. For about 5 minutes. I saw several servers on the patio, and a couple walked by me to go take a vape break. No one acknowledged me. No biggie. They were busy/on break. So I called the restaurant. This is where things went downhill. I told the young woman on the phone that I was there for a curbside pickup order and had been waiting for a little while. I asked if I was supposed to call and check in or something. Her response? "Oh. Yeah, we don't do that anymore." So I said, "Well it was an option online, and I'm parked in front of the curbside parking only signs, so can you maybe have someone remove it as an option from the website and take down the signs?" She replied, snottily, "I can tell my boss." AND THEN SHE HUNG UP ON ME. She didn't apologize or offer to have someone bring it out just this one time. Nothing. She just hung up on me. I stormed inside, got my food, and went home. When I got home, part of our order was missing. This was by far the worst experience I've had at any restaurant, and it will be a very long time before I go to any Johnny's location again.

Back Deck at Johnny's on Missioj Road, Prarie Village

A solid staple for bar dining food, this trip was a bit of a disappointment. The location is great, adjacent to the Corinth Square in Prarie Village, and the outside patio seating gives you a sheltered feel from the busy street and shopping center. To start things off we went for the Cobb Salad. Plenty of sliced mewts and cheese over iceberg lettuce was fine, but lacked anything special. However we thought the pizza special would be the way to go (we are usually sandwich fans) but it was not what we had hoped. Medium thick crust, slathered with a mediocre plain tomato sauce and dried out pepperonis and too much American cheese just didn't cut it. While the large can definitely feed 4, it just wasn't worth it. And an hour later we were gulping water from a salt explosion. Saddest of all though was the beer. Nothing worse than a near room temp beer on a hot day. We do like the Johnny's chain but this location probably needs some TLC to be on a par with their colleagues.

The cheesy breadsticks have to be the worst thing on the menu. 0/10. Do not recommend them. This place is so loud when it's busy.

Worst part was that they added 20% gratuity automatically but didn't tell me! I was ready to go & he took forever so I just handed him my card. He returned just the signature slip & I signed it but also asked for a copy for my expense report. Took 5 minutes for that & when I got it, I realized they added 20% gratuity, but yet the signature receipt didn't indicate that anywhere that tip was already added, so I accidentally tipped 50%! I didn't realize til I got back to my hotel & they didn't answer when I called back (it was 10pm). I was so mad, and when I called back the next day, the lady told me to call again around 4 & when I did, they didn't answer. Don't get fooled by this place -- check your receipts & don't bother with the food! And don't expect good service either.... OOOOOF.

For the event, food was catered in with a nacho bar from Jose Pepper's, and we were given a complimentary cocktail along with the chance to play a game of fowling. Fowling is basically bowling with a football, but instead of a regular football, we used more of a Nerf-style, squeezy football. It sounds simple until you actually try it. Even when your aim feels spot on, the ball can bounce, shift, and completely miss the target. It was a lot of fun and honestly a better workout than I expected. I was surprised my arm was not sore afterward because there is definitely some movement involved. The space is great for groups, parties, team building, and people who enjoy active social games. The staff and setup made the event feel easy and welcoming, and I had a wonderful time. That said, I'll be honest: this is not really my personal bag. I could definitely see myself coming back for a kid, pre-teen, or teenager's birthday party, or maybe enjoying it more if there were an outdoor option where I could get a little sunshine while playing. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, and I'm glad I went. I had fun, I tried something new, and now I can officially say I've been fowling. Would I need to do it again in life? Honestly, probably not. But would I recommend it for the right group or occasion? Absolutely.

Make reservations because they had a two hour wait for walk-ins. For appetizers we shared their burnt ends. Tender and sauced perfectly. For dinner we shared a wedge salad, their mashed potatoes, asparagus (a must!), and their tomahawk steak! Instead of doing three separate steaks we did the one and it was a perfect size for all of us to share! The steak was tender and well seasoned, mashed potatoes creamy, and the asparagus was prepared in a way we hadn't had before - highly recommend! We also had their dessert lemon meringue pie and coconut cream pie! Really really good! Wine options: amazing! Bourbon options: classy! We couldn't give it five stars for two main reason: 1. We made a reservation for 7pm, arrived and check in at 6:50 and still had to wait just over 30 minutes to be seated. We learned that walk-ins had been seated ahead of us so we needed to wait for some tables to leave before we could be seated. This was a bit surprising. We understand waiting a few minutes, but 30 min is not okay. 2. The sweet server assisting us for dinner was in training and we learned from her "trainer" that she wouldn't be getting any of the tips from our dinner. Additionally, the "trainer" came over around 830 to tell us that although it was only three of us that gratuity is automatically included. Very odd that we were told these things during our meal. The server being trained should absolutely get a portion of the tips - we hope restaurant management reconsiders their policy on this especially since we hardly saw her "trainer". We normally tip over the 20% but because the trainer didn't get any of our tips, we opted to not increase the tip that was automatically charged to us. All in all really classy restaurant and food was delicious! We'll be back for sure!

The space was nice and clean, but unfortunately, the service and the "famous" main course didn't quite deliver a stellar performance. Our table was split--some wanted dinner, some wanted dessert. This apparently threw our waiter into a state of deep existential confusion. The Food: I ordered their "famous" fried chicken, customizing it to three thighs (which came with homemade pickles and a fantastic ham gravy). For $24, it wasn't bad, but it's definitely not "famous" for flavor--maybe just famous for the price tag. Honestly, I could have filled up at Popeyes for a fraction of the cost. Surprisingly, the absolute star of my meal was the side of sautéed mushrooms. It came with little pearl onions, shallots, and green peas. I topped it with some of my friend's arugula to make it fancy, and it was delicious. The Service (or lack thereof): Here's where it went downhill. The dessert order became a saga. Those who ordered sweets expected them to arrive with the mains, but we had to ask several times just to get them toward the end of the meal. By the end, our waiter seemed completely frustrated with our existence. He aggressively boxed up the remaining desserts and semi-forcefully shoved the credit card machine into our faces to shuffle us out the door. Great mushrooms, aggressive math at the end. Proceed with caution.
