Shopping at Pearlridge Mall, Aiea, O'ahu, Hawaii... I was looking for something special (and maybe Polynesian) to wear to my annual high school Luau. It's coming up in July... I like to think ahead... Unfortunately, there were no outfits in our school colors. Service wasn't really attentive. Maybe she was looking at the other bunches of customers who were louder? I kind of walked quickly between the racks of clothing, noting that they were arranged by color - and some were grouped so that a family could wear the same fabric. Very cool! I'll probably check again next month. I like this location at Uptown Pearlridge. Tanoa is to the left of Sephora on the upper level. The owner of this business messaged me that i was mistaken as far as the price of the child's dress I posted about, he says it is $24.95, so let's go with that. I remember it at $39.99 but without the receipt, let's just assume he is correct and I stand corrected; and since he went out of his way to send me (a customer) the message accusing me of wanting to make my reviews "juicy" by "stretching the truth" which is offensive in and of itself, I am humoring him with this update. My "opinion" of the products and quality stands and it is just that, "my opinion" and my own experience. I am and have always been honest with my reviews for the purpose of (as I always say) helping fellow yelpers make informed consumer decisions. TANOA'S located next to Sephoras uptown where Ross is. Tanoa's carry mostly men shirts though they do have some women skirts and tops and some children wear as well, mainly found it to carry more for men. I love the tattoo look type of designs on the clothing. That's what caught my eye. I was looking to buy a birthday gift for someone. The prints on the men's shirts vary so i'm sure you'll find something that suits you. The price was pretty reasonable, I purchased a 2X white with black design dressy shirt for just under $50. All in all i found this store to be original with its designs. So locals if you support locals then please think about buying your next gift from here. read more

Update: I went to a well known local shop to alter the dress, because I was not able to exchange sizes of my gifted dress. The professional seamstress said many people have come in with the same brand. Because of the way the elastic is sown in and the way the dress is sewn, there is no way for her to address the problem. She said each person has come in with the same complaint, and I should contact the designer. It drapes open in the front and the back. Tanoa knows this, that's why they don't allow exchanges. I love coming to this location! The older lady with the curly hair, Traci, has always been so helpful and gives me and my family great recommendations! The new location across from Razors is so nice and spacious, I wish that they had newer items like the Ala moana location but other than that I always stop by when I can. I do miss the old staff from the upstairs location just because some of the younger workers aren't as welcoming or attentive - overall great store! read more

I have been coming to Tanoa store before I move in to Hawaii, (3 Years now) I met Ms. Traci and Ms. Lani (I think that was her name) The welcoming from them It was Phenomenal because Of Ms. Traci I have half of my closet with your guys clothing, Now that she is no longer there the times that I have been the customer it's BAD. I don't even want to purchase any items anymore, it's not the same the old manager Ms. Traci was so welcoming treat me like a family, and now they look at me like I'm a thief, this new people need some serious customer service training and understand that without us as a customer the company will suffer. There is a young man that is now the Store Manager he is so rude I was talking to one of the ladies and he rudely interrupt me. I ask Who are you? and he ignore me. New Mommy+Baby Girl @Tanoa = Matching outfits 24/7. This brand has a good selection of Polynesian print clothing for men, women and children. The material they use is of high quality and the designs are modern and versatile. Most of the workers are very friendly and their prices are WAAAAAY better than Missing Polynesia or Manuheali'i. Their shop is clean and organized and I LOVE that there are matching mommy and baby options! This, in fact, is why I have spent (and continue to spend) so much money here!! So, why 4 stars and not 5? Honestly, I wish they had new inventory more often... I've been shopping here since they opened and I feel like they haven't cycled much through. I will literally go there once a week to see if there is anything new! Also, there are more sale options at the mother location in Ward. Tanoa shop has two locations; one in Pearlridge mall near Sephora and the other (the original location) at Ohana Hale Market Place in Ward. Pros: Amazing men's shirt designs and patterns, comfortable and quality fabric for almost all the clothing, some matching options for mommy and daughter and some matching for daddy and keiki, affordable prices for polynesian wear. Cons: Some of the wrap dresses have very strange [read: HUGE] sizing, not enough new inventory cycles through, not enough sales on inventory that hasn't moved in months, sizing for the smocked keiki dresses is terrible- TOO TIGHT! Some staff members used inappropriate/vulgar language in front of me and my child on several occasions and ignored me as I waited while they talked story. I love shopping at Tanoa and it is seriously my first stop each time I come to Oahu. I was there this weekend and bought a dress for myself and three neckties to send to missionaries. I then went to Pearlridge to look for a size for something they didn't have at Ala Moana and ended up buying three more ties. When I got to my car, I realized I had two of the same ties so I ran back in to simply exchange for another color. Nope, nope, nope. Absolutely refused to allow me to exchange as "all sales are final." I was not asking for a refund. I hadn't even left the parking lot. No need to be so unreasonable. I only give 4 stars (company in general, not this specific location) because I wish they had a wider variety women and kids options. Esp compared to the variety of mens shirts they have. I love love LOVE this place! I love their "flattering-for-every-size-and-shape" designs...I love their fun (but classy) Polynesian prints...and of course I love their prices, which are very affordable (when compared to some other local clothing lines). The moment you walk into this shop, you'll see lots of great styles for men & women, and most come in a variety of colors. I really appreciate having an option between subdued colors (for work) and & fun colors (for fun!)...& don't forget their cute kids' stuff too!! They go all the way down to toddler sizes. If you happen to be looking for matching family attire, just ask -- chances are they'll have at least one perfectly matching outfit for the whole family (hallelujah!), complete with one or more options for women, men, girls and boys. That's surprisingly hard to find nowadays!! Keep in mind, the sizes are a little hard to predict here, depending on the style, and some of their items are labeled with unusual--maybe European?--sizes...so be sure to try on everything before you buy. For example, I usually wear a size x-small, but I've bought pieces here in x-small, small, LARGE (it was perfect for an off-the-shoulder look), and "size 8"...and once I even ended up getting a dress in girls size 14! Luckily, they have 2 dressing rooms available, both of which provide comfortable space & lighting, and are immaculately clean. Surprisingly, I've never had to wait for a dressing room, in all the times I've been there, so that's always nice too. If I had to point to one weakness for Tanoa, it would be their return policy, which is only 10 days, or 21 days for exchange. That's a little inconvenient--especially for gifts--but they're a relatively small business, and constantly turning out new designs, so at least I can understand where they're coming from. Speaking of new designs, I heard they do NOT do reprints, so once they run out of something, THAT IS IT (unless the Ward store still has some)...and of course the nicest styles & prints will go fast. So despite that quick return/exchange policy...if you see something you like, just get it now, don't wait! As a final note, I have to say that I love their laid-back, family-friendly vibe, and their super-personable customer service. The staff really make everyone feel welcome & at-ease, without any haughtiness or "judgment" that you might get at other places (ladies, you know what I mean)! The sales clerks are truly sweet & sincere, giving helpful suggestions and feedback on various items, and they really go out of their way to find just the right size and style for everyone...including my mom, who is NOT an easy customer. The one time I brought my mom, she literally tried on THREE different styles, THREE colors each, and one of those she tried in FOUR different sizes, before finally deciding on a piece she likes...& the gal there seemed perfectly fine with it, smiling & saying "sure aunty, no problem!" (or variations of that) the whole way through. Oh mom. went to exchange an outfit; was interrogated by the cashier; who when how they bought the outfit i received as a gift. she made a telephone call and says there was not registered of the sale so i couldn't make the exchange. i even had to give cashier the names of the families so she could see when and how they bought it..the cashier at pearl ridge tanoa was not professional and was kind of rude to the end..basically, I was treated like a thief and couldn't exchange it without the receipt or knowing how it was paid for..really? no more shopping at your stores tanoa.. read more
