Looking for lunchtime meditation in the FiDi? This is it…read more All meditation at WITHIN is lead, and the teachers vary quite a bit in their style. Still, I'm always glad I've gone when I walk out of there. Devon is my preferred teacher by a mile. Classes appear to be made up of folks who are relatively new to mediation, and in need of a break from their office jobs, with the occasional serious devotee thrown in the mix. You don't need to bring anything, or wear anything special. Just show up.

Love, love, love WITHIN Meditation! I come here through Satori Yoga Studio - I bought an "Urban…read moreYogi" package ($69/month) that includes 4 classes/month and unlimited meditation. Funnily enough, I ended up using the meditation way more than the yoga - because it helped me so much! Meditation is guided (though there are silent classes as well), and instructors vary in their style. Devon seems to be the most popular, but the others are great also - I've never had a bad experience. I regularly try to go to sessions with Renee on Thursday afternoon, where she offers a special, personal element I haven't felt elsewhere. I've tried meditation on my own and nothing seemed to "click" until WITHIN - the supportive instructors (and fellow students) makes a HUGE difference. Before and after each class, we talk about our practice and the reasons we're in the class. People come for all sorts of reasons - work anxiety, stress around having a baby, looking for clarity on major life decisions. There's no pressure to share (as a Yelper, you may guess I'm one of the more vocal ones), but sharing is a key element that makes WITHIN so valuable to me - Devon once tailored a class to me because I was the only one who shared about having work anxiety! Renee has chatted with me after class about work, relationships, and meditation - and has become a key voice in my life. I feel very fortunate that I found WITHIN. In hectic San Francisco, it's often difficult to find a healing place of refuge. I highly recommend it!

I was half-convinced I'd walk out with a few generalised explanations and nothing more. Thankfully, I was wrong. I had an amazing experience -- she described a dream she couldn't possibly have known about, and gave me some insight into my current state of being. It's a shame there aren't more glowing reviews, because she 100% deserves to be lavished with praise. I'll certainly be visiting again!

Do NOT trust this place. It is a scam to take your money…read more I went there yesterday with my friend out of curiosity, and it was a complete disappointment. At first, the man tried to guess things about us. He was somewhat correct about my friend, but everything he said about me was completely wrong. My gut feeling told me not to trust him, but I still let him do a reading -- and it was a big mistake. He couldn't tell me anything specific about my past or future. Instead, he said I have a "bad spirit" from my ancestors and that I needed to pay for another service with his "special candle" that costs $1,200 to remove it. That is ridiculous. How can a bad spirit just magically disappear because of him and a candle? He couldn't even explain clearly what my ancestors supposedly did. He also went along with my friend joking about Satan and sacrifices without realizing it was a joke. Everything he said in the tarot reading was extremely generic -- half good, half bad -- things that could apply to anyone. I lost $80 for this. He refused to accept bank or credit cards and made us go withdraw cash. He even walked with us to the bank to make sure he got his money. Please don't trust this place, i worked so hard so my money and i dont understand why people can just find areal job instead of scamming other like this

Rik was an incredible facilitator, his voice along brings me into a meditative state :) I could not recommend this program enough - it helped me deal with life's challenges, helped me improve my relationships with immediate family, I learned to verbalize my emotions (that was a biggie!), got control over my social anxieties and even flying (the turbulence used to freak me out!). It changed my relationship with time (I used to always hurry and always be late), and I came to terms with death (was not an intention of the program, but a discovery that showed itself after my second MBSR course) so that when my relatives were passing, I could handle it with grace and peace of mind, and was able to provide support to the deceased and their family instead of avoiding this subject altogether (the previous me would do that). Overall, I took 2 MBSR courses throughout the years, and try to participate in day-longs every year (open to graduates). I am convinced this program is the best thing I've ever done for my well-being, and an investment that will be bringing the returns throughout the lifetime. Thank you, Rik!!

I've had practically zero martial arts experience aside from some wushu when I was a kid. Everyone was very nice and patient. I wanted to be active in a sport where I'm engaged physically and mentally, and so I started looking up different dojo in SF. I started classes in February 2009 at Pacific Aikido Center, with a Tue. & Thur. evening commitment. I practice regularly with other novices as well as with higher ranked brown & black belts. The people I train with are great, and so are the instructors. The dojo is run by Shiohira Sensei, who teaches classes on M, W, F. Other black belt sensei-instructors teach on Tu, Th, Sa. During class, we warm up and stretch, then we pair up with various classmates for 45 minutes. Both the sensei and partner-in-training go through techniques with me, with repetition and often with specific guidance on ways to improve. The instructors and classmates are incredibly patient and kind. Everyone is here to improve themselves and help others, and we all improve at our own pace. While it's amazing to see what the higher-level practitioners of Aikido can do, every once in a whie I look back and am amazed at what I've learned in my year at the dojo. If you have always wanted to take martial arts, Aikido is a great art to begin your practice. I recommend this school to any beginner.

When I was asked what I wanted to get out of mindfulness I mentioned a way to deal with loneliness and the anxiety that comes from that emotion. Very quickly I was told that mindfulness wouldn't help that. The setting was challenging and I felt there was either a connection or complete lack of one with each student. Never anywhere in the middle. I abandoned my mindfulness quest after taking this class because it was so discouraging. Fast forward several years and I was diagnosed with cancer and had a very difficult time with treatment. I picked up mindfulness again through the Headapace Ap. So much better, so much less expensive, so much more convenient and thought provoking. It did wonders for me and I practice daily now. If you can't discipline yourself to do the Ap then try this class, but I would definitely try the Ap first. Don't get discouraged as I did if this class isn't for you. There are so many resources out there if this isn't for you.
