It's a beautiful day to take a walk and listen to the birds sing. My stepdad and I stopped at the park after his doctors visit. He's been in the house all week and haven't had any exercise. So decided to walk around read about the history of the park and area. Tanyard Creek sits along the belt line with a beautiful stream with turtles sunbathing on down tree limbs. The park has a nice size playground for the kiddos and plenty of space for the dogs to run and play without being in the way of pedestrians trying to walk or run along the beltline. This is pretty much a neighborhood park. It's quiet and very clean. I will be back. read more

Great park with separate toddler and big kids playground. Picnic tables and benches. The park itself is well maintained. Nice paved walking trail connecting to a section of the Beltline that also runs along the creek. I tried parking in the lot off Collier and it is rough. Can only fit at most 6 cars, asphalt all ripped up. Would be hard for lowriders to get out of there. Also there were seedy cars there parked at 10:30 am!? With broken glass on the ground....no thanks. There is off street parking off Walthall Dr, adhere to the "No Parking" signs as it is a residential area. read more

I hesitate to review this park, because it's one of those little secret getaways in Atlanta that I enjoy for its relative seclusion. But...to share is to care, I suppose. Tanyard Creek Park is the site of some of the fiercest fighting during the Battle of Atlanta in the Civil War. It's difficult to see how big it is from Collier as you drive by. Most people probably just see the historical markers and think that's it. If you park and walk down the hill to the park, you'll see there's a huge open field on the other side of the creek. It's a fantastic place to take your dog, play some frisbee, have an impromptu game of kickball, read a book...the list goes on and on. If you're looking for a wide open space in the middle of the city (that isn't Piedmont Park) that won't feel like it's a scene, this is your best bet. read more

Myself and my family really enjoy this park. It's located on part of the Beltline so you can get a little walk/jog/ or bike ride fit into your day. But, the path isn't very long either way you take. But, there are two playgrounds. Very nice play grounds not far from one another. There's also a large grassy field. And down the opposite end of the trail, there's the golf course. There's a nice stream that follows beside the path and goes under a couple bridges. There's even some beautiful graffiti under one bridge. If you like trains, you might be lucky enough to see the train pass by over head. You can see some old tracks right above the little hand made wooden bridge. It's beautiful :) I just wish there wasn't so much trash scattered on the playgrounds and that the Beltline was longer. read more

I live next to this park and I used to love going there but now... not so much. I would ask that people please stop referring to this as a dog park. It gives the impression that it's OK to let dogs run free here, however it's not an off-leash dog park. Loose dogs run out of the park (because it's not a dog park... and it's not fenced in) and they run in the street, near playgrounds, and in neighborhood yards. Loose dogs from this park have killed both of my cats. Please go to the Piedmont park dog park if you need your dogs to run free for exercise... in a giant fenced in area where they won't kill anymore neighborhood pets. :( In memory of Pika & Alice... all I can do now is spread the word. read more

This park is like a hidden GEM! My dogs love it, I love it and it's so tranquil. Collier has tons of hidden parks and this is just one of the best. I actually got lost in search of this Doggy park. But once you find it, you will find yourself coming back for more of the peaceful surroundings. read more

I will describe this place as the "hidden jewel" of dog parks!!. It is a huge, green, open space in the middle of the city where you will always find a bunch of dogs (and probably their owners) all of which get along with each other!! This park has multiple entrances. Although there is a small lot off Collier Road right where Overbrook deadends into Collier, I do not recommend that entrance if you cannot handle stairs. This entrance is not handicap accessible. This same parking lot is also small, it can only handle about 7 cars. Next time I attend this park, I will try parking along Walthall Drive, where there is a paved ramp connecting to the park which will make an easier entrance for those handicapped or with strollers. From the parking lot off of Collier the Beltline path splits, running NorthEast under Collier Road towards Bitsy Grant Golf Course, or SouthEast along Tanyardd creek towards Ardmore Park. Heading Southeast with the creek we discovered there is a playground for little tikes just over the 1st hill along the path. There were plenty of benches and picnic tables where parents could have a day in the park with their family. As already stated by others, this is a well maintained park with a wide, flat surfaced trail good for dog walkers, runners, bikers, rollerbladers, strollers and wheelchairs. NOTE: Be aware there are NO bathrooms here. read more

( Sherman's Atlanta campaign of 1864. ) I highly advise you to look into the Civil War history of Atlanta. Although most battlefields were mowed down to create urban Atlanta. Let's face it, Atlanta is a rather busy city, which is clearly manifested in its confusing infrastructure and endless streets full of parked cars. In all of this madness, many people, like myself, love the idea of getting away for a while and simply enjoying good ol' mother nature. However, even the infamous parks of Atlanta are overcrowded, making it nearly impossible to take a peaceful stroll without dodging lane violators or rest in a hammock without overhearing someone's conversation about how much they drank last night. Luckily, there are gems like Tanyard Creek Park. Tanyard Creek Park is a small park that is tucked away in the jungle of Collier Hills, gently cradled by many a mansion. In 2010, the BeltLine developed its Northside Trail, which just so happens to run through scenic Tanyard Creek Park just south of Collier Road and another park just north of Collier Road. What you get as a result is a nearly 1 mile long paved path that is well maintained and hardly traversed. I swear, I have never seen this park anywhere near as busy as Piedmont or Candler Park, among a few others. It's like you have this whole sanctuary-like park and path to yourself. To access the park via car, there's an entrance off Collier Road, directly across from where Overbrook Drive meets Collier. You will probably (i.e. most likely) miss the entrance because it's around a rather tight bend in the road and the parking lot is on a steep incline, so make sure that when you do find it, go in there slowly! When you walk into the park, it's almost like you're not even in Atlanta anymore. It is unbelievably quiet and beautiful. On the Tanyard Creek Park side, you get a rather straight trail with a playground, perfect areas to hang your hammock or read a book, a very large field where people often take their dogs out to play, a really cool railroad bridge you walk under, another playground, and a path that ends at some town homes. On the other side, you get a winding trail, some cool street art (can I call it that?), more nature, and the trail ends along the edge of a golf course and some town homes. I would highly suggest that people make their way here if they're in need of a brief get away from their lives...or from traffic. That works too. But I'm truly hesitant to write this review because I fear more people will learn about this island of peace and serenity in this bustling city. I love taking walks here and plan to do so more in the future. Parking is a bit rough as there are only a few spaces. I'm lucky enough to live close enough to walk over and enjoy the shade. Plenty of dog walkers, joggers and families in and around the park. Go early or late enough in the day and you might catch a glimpse of a deer or hear Coyotes calling. read more

I love living near this great park, especially since they put in the Atlanta Beltline! The naturescape is gorgeous and makes running/walking/biking wonderful. I love to take my dog walking here, and I always feel so safe because there are so many people around. There is a kids playground area, and there is a large open field where many people often let their dogs run free without a leash; however, there are "creeks" running on either side of the open field where sewer/storm water run off and if the dogs get it in, it can get quite nasty as it is black and foul smelling. Also, there is no fence to keep the dogs in, so if your dog isn't obedient off lead, it might not be the best place for them. There is parking off of Collier Road, and if that's full, there is plenty of street parking in the neighborhoods around it. Hope to see you there! read more

This is SUCH a great little park; I almost hesitate to write a review for fear of it becoming overcrowded. Thanks to the Beltline funds, it has a nice paved, .8 mile path for biking/running/strollers. Parking can be really tough. Don't be afraid to go down Colonial Homes Drive and parallel park there if the Collier Rd. lots are full. From Colonial Homes, the paved path begins right at the edge of the golf course. -The other end of the path has an "unofficial" dog-park that gets busy every day. -Playground, picturesque creek views, dog-park, friendly people. -What's not to love? read more

This park is a hidden gem !! If you want to get away in nature, this is the perfect place in the city to do so. The park is a huge yard where people let their dogs off leash and can play. Only problem with my dog is that he was more interested in creek and went down there to swim! :) a little stressful for me but a great day for him. I love this part of the beltline because it feels like you are miles away from the city in a forest. Great for kids, dogs and adults who could use some nature! read more

This is one of the few areas of Civil War fighting in the area that wasn't paved over, so I wanted to visit. It actually turned into a pretty nice place for us to take an evening walk, with a nice paved trail that goes under an old wooden railroad bridge. Minus a star only because we didn't see any bathrooms, and there were a few too many dogs on the path. But then, if you have a dog, probably a nice place to walk them as long as they are on leash. read more

The open meadow at Tanyard Creek Park is an amazing place to enjoy almost any activity. Please be aware that this is Not An Off-Leash Dog Park. It is a city park and the Atlanta Beltline an PATH are beside it. If you have your dog off-leash you run the risk of getting a ticket by the Atlanta Police who regularly drive by or ride by on bicycles and issue warnings as well as tickets to the dog owner or dog walker who leaves their pet unleashed. Speaking of such tickets I have received one for my dog being off-leash. I am posting mainly to say this is not a fine you can call in to pay or pay on-line. To cure my violation I had to be in the courtroom in downtown Atlanta by 8am. By the time I saw the judge it was around 11am, this is when the DA suggested a $200 fine. The judge reduced it to $100 since it was my first offense. When I went to the window to pay that is when about $60 of court fees were added to the $100. If I include paying for parking and taking off the entire morning to resolve this, the cost of my negligence of the law brought to my attention that misinformation is no 'jewel'. A neighbor with two dogs off leash paid a fine of $400 and had to do 80 hours of community service. Yelp will take no responsibility here. It is up to you to keep the information here real. read more
