Absolutely the worst experience--avoid this shop at all costs! My first visit years ago was awful, and while the owner did make things right, the shop manager was rude and unprofessional then--and nothing has changed. Recently, I had another terrible experience that confirmed I will never return. Three years ago, I paid Tao Auto to replace my timing belt and water pump for the first time. My truck had 322,000 miles at the time. Fast forward to NOW: my truck started making strange noises, so I took it to nearby mechanic. They told me the water pump was leaking and the timing belt needed replacing. So I had my truck towed to my regular mechanic, who said the same thing--and even noted the parts looked like original factory components. That's shocking because I paid Tao Auto for this exact job three years ago! My truck now has 356,000 miles, meaning only about 25,000 miles since the repair. Major repairs like this typically come with an 80,000-mile warranty, so I called Tao Auto. The manager was unbelievably rude and dismissive, repeating that the warranty was only 12 months and insisting they used "good parts." No accountability, no willingness to even inspect the vehicle, nothing. As a paying customer, this is unacceptable. It makes me question whether the work was ever done properly--or done at all. This shop clearly does not value honesty or customer service. The manager's attitude and honesty is the reason my first visit was horrible, and it's the reason I'll never go back. If you care about your vehicle and your money, stay far away from Tao Auto. read more

I have been taking my Hondas to TAO since 1999 when I purchased my first Honda. TAO is far and above the very BEST place I have ever had work on any of my vehicles. When I purchased my first Honda my friend told me to take it there because they were knowledgeable, honest and fair and I would be happy with them. So I told TAO that I knew nothing about vehicles and I was going to depend on them for everything. So now my 1999 CRV has over 300,000 miles on it and TAO is the only place I will ever let do anything with it. They have lived up to every praise I can give them. I only wish they would work on my old truck but they don't work on Chevys. But no other place will ever touch my Honda Ridgeline except TAO. I owe them the fact that my CRV has lasted so long. I have been bringing my 2004 Honda here for a long time and always get an honest diagnosis. They have done major repairs for me with my AC and other simple services such as oil changes and tire rotation. They specialize in Toyota and Honda and you see all kinds of models in their garage bays. Will and the team of mechanics are wonderful and I always received excellent trustworthy service. I brought Honda CRV to Tao and spoke with William beforehand. The auto dealership has screwed up the simplest things from a recent oil change and not tapping off fluids besides overpricing customers for years. I wish we have brought the vehicle to Tao over the years but hands down William knows what he is doing and good timing dropping and picking up the vehicle. I would give William and Tao 10 stars as they are honest and not trying to overcharge or perform unnecessary work and actually do the work that is being charged. read more

If you drive a Honda, Toyota, Lexus or Acura and are looking for a great mechanic in the Raleigh area, look no further. I've been taking my car to be serviced at Tao auto for the past two years. They are always fast and friendly and don't try to over charge you or sell you services you don't need. From my experience, they are an honest shop and will take the time to explain to you the repairs needed. If you're looking to get an oil change, which is usually what I go there for, you can get there when they open and they will get you right in. I got there at 8:00 am and they had me out at 8:45. This is convenient because you're still able to get to work on time. The waiting area isn't bad for a garage. They offer water, coffee and usually have the daily paper out to read while you're waiting. Above all, I really like taking my car to be serviced at a shop I feel like I can trust. read more

My starter was going bad on my Honda Accord. I thought I still had it under warranty when I brought it to the dealership. NOPE! The dealer quoted me $1000 to replace, probably thinking that I would feel like I had no choice. Hell no! So i researched a little about auto places in Cary and found this place. I bought the part on Ebay and they installed it for a 1/10 of what Honda was going to charge. Most auto shops make you buy their part so they can make money, but not this one. The owner was very informative and seemed very honest. I noticed there were regular customers that he has, so that reassured me that I made the right choice. All in all, would definitely go to this place again if I have car troubles. read more

These guys are Honda/Acura/Toyota/Lexus specialists. I've been using them for 5 years for maintenance on Honda VTEC engines, as well as my growing stable of V8 Lexus GS's. They are not the cheapest place in town, but would you really trust a cheap garage with a 32-valve Lexus? These guys get busy early in the morning, so it pays to show up at 8am when they open. They also can arrange a ride to work for you if you live close enough to their shop. read more

Let me start out by saying this used to be my favorite place to take my cars in. I had Acura TL and everyone in Cary garage took a real good care of my car. Fast forward several years, I needed some diagnostics and major work done on Lexus RX350, and because I had such a good experiences, I didn't even think twice to make an appointment. Since I already got some opinions earlier on what services I may need, I asked for an general estimate. Day or two later, I called back again asking for a general estimate, thinking that stuffs can happen in a busy place and I knew they were not exactly a large operations (which I actually liked). When I didn't get a call for the second time, I called them for the third time in the same week. This time, the receptionist, Heather, put me through Samantha, who started to explain that she just came back from vacation and she didn't know about the call. No problem I thought, but then she kept going on about how it would not be appropriate to offer an estimate without looking at the car. At that point, I lost my cool because 1. I didn't ask for a specific estimate. I owned many cars and know full well that's not really a good practice. That is why I made it very clear that I needed a general estimate on a specific repair I asked for so that I could prepare my piggy bank. 2. I detected a tone that nobody was really owning the problem. The real problem was that I, the customer, didn't get a call for a week and had to call 3 times. When I raised my voice, Samantha abruptly hung up the call. While raising voice was my fault, I still wanted to talk to someone about how multiple customer calls could go unanswered. In my effort to reach the owner, I learned that Samantha is a daughter of the owner. I also learned that there were other, more decent, workers left at Tao auto who were kind enough to give me detailed estimates on the specific repair item I inquired. Because of the last part, I give 1 star to Tao auto, but now I must go find another place to take my cars - other places that would value customer time and own a problem when problems happen. read more

The work was good and the prices were reasonable at the OTHER LOCATION, on Capital Blvd. I had my Lexus worked on at the CAPITAL BLVD location with major svcs, and had my family bring their Lexus their all the way from Durham, because of the cust svc n prices n honest prices n warrantied work. However, I recently needed an alternator replaced, and the price they gave me was more than $200 higher than where I ended up taking it, and yes it too was a reputable place. The guy on the phone asked me if they were the first n only place I called so far? He basically knew their prices are ridiculous. The part price doesnt change but their labor cost is outrageous. Theyre charging an hour to 2 hours more to do the same job, which is what they can control. WHERE IS THE HONEST COST OF LABOR? They are charging dealer prices for outside work. SOME MONEY IS BETTER THAN NO MONEY!! Dont try to make a few absorb the cost of many. $500(return customer n referral) three times is more than $700 (over charged) one time!!! read more

I went to Tao Auto Cary for oil change. When I got the bill, I raised the question regarding the price. The guy at front desk immediately got offended and responded "You think we take advantage of you? If you think it is expensive, you can go somewhere else." I told him politely "Pleae watch your attitude." Then this guy stared yelling to me "You only came here once in the past two years. I don't beg you for our services!" I had work done on a friends IS350. The work was done correctly & promptly. The work required the front cover to be removed to change out the coolant. In addition, there are also two side covers (removing them not required for this job). There were about 5 missing fasteners from all the covers. Although not part of the work, Tao replaced the missing fasteners, . At no charge. The fasteners are not expensive, although a dealer might have charged about $15 retail. Tao impressed me because they took care of a problem that was not of their making. Goodwill is hard to earn. Harder still to keep. read more

TAO is the only place I will let work on my Honda. I have 247000+ miles on it and they have been my car service place since I bought it. They are honest and very reasonably priced.
