I'm sure some of you know the feeling. It's been a long day of travel, multiple flights and taxis to the hotel. You're in the middle of the week just finishing up one customer visit on the heels of another with a lot to do in between. I normally adventurous wanting to venture out and try a restaurant the night just calls for staying in the room and ordering something in. Today was one of those days for me. I ordered delivery. The last time I was in Oklahoma City was in 1999 passing through on the way to Fort Worth, Texas for a Habitat for Humanity trip. So I don't have a lot of experience with the local dining culture. A quick read of a few sites said that aside from barbecue Asian food was a stand out in the area. So I looked for a good Chinese place and saw one with braised pork belly which caught my attention. I heard that with a hot and sour soup, which is one of my favorite soups when it's done right. Today it wasn't done right. It was just really bland. I normally like it spice here and to be honest it just didn't have a lot of flavor all around. I ordered some cream cheese wontons because, why not? They were OK. They were fried well and despite being delivered, were still crispy And the cream cheese inside of it was good, it would've just been nice to have a little bit more filling. I was really looking forward to the braised pork belly. The portion was ample and the sauce had a nice aroma to it. The pork itself was rather bland also. The preserved vegetables that came along with it had a nice Taste to them, but it didn't add much to the dish overall. All in all, the meal was so so. I wouldn't order from the place again and looking forward to my next eating adventure here tomorrow evening. read more

*came here bc cafe de Thai pei (sp?) was closed* Ordered the fried chicken, and let me just say--this stuff was divine! I'm talking crispy, seasoned perfection that could make Colonel Sanders rethink his life choices. Pretty sure they sell the seasoning too, which means I'll be back to hoard enough to season a year's worth of chicken (or maybe just sprinkle it on my cereal for fun). They've got the usual bottled drinks with the funky glass balls (you know the ones), but the real MVPs are the wild anime-themed sodas. Imagine Goku and a tentacle monster having a cola-off--yep, that's what's in their fridge. The small grocery section is also a treasure trove: hot sauces, noodles, and probably the secrets to the universe tucked somewhere on the shelves. My friend got a lychee smoothie with mango boba and acted like they'd just discovered the eighth wonder of the world. I stuck with Thai tea, which was unapologetically STRONG, like a caffeine roundhouse kick to the face, but balanced enough to keep it classy. Service? On point. These folks make you feel like family, but, like, the kind of family you actually like. It's probably more of a lunch vibe, but I'm definitely coming back to explore the menu more. They falsely advertise their prices, and when I pointed it out, I was met with insults, being told I "didn't know how to read." Instead of handling the situation professionally, the owner chose to intimidate me by staring me down in an aggressive manner. The entire encounter was incredibly unprofessional. If you're looking for a place with honesty and good customer service, this is NOT it. Avoid at all costs--there are plenty of other cafes that actually respect their customers. read more

This was our go to place. Then it changed ownership at the end of Covid. Use to get a full plate of Kung Pao Chicken with lots of chicken and a large bowl of rice for $8.99. Now I get smaller portions for $12.99. Only paid that once because I've never been back and never will. And chicken was over cooked to the point it was dry. read more

My family and I love Tao Cha. The food as really tasty and very good prices. My husband and I always get a Rice Box and it's a lot of food for the price. The only thing I would suggest is more options for kids. We usually end up getting my 4 and 2 year old a Chicken Lo Mein to share because they only chicken nuggets as an option for the kids. We have ordered the chicken for my youngest before and added some sesame seed sauce from my husbands plate on the chicken and my son really liked it. So maybe more options of what you serve for adults, just smaller portions for the kiddos. Everyone is super friendly too. Excellent place for boba milk tea that also apparently has a great variety of imported Asian snacks and drinks that may even be hard to find at your average Asian supermarket. I didn't get a chance to try any of their food, but the menu looked pretty good as being full of maybe Taiwanese/Chinese food offerings. I got the banana milk tea with boba with was superb. This place is also right next to Cafe Icon, which I gave 5 stars as the best sushi place in OKC/Edmond. Check this place out! read more

Super yummy and ultra friendly. So today is icy and everything seems to be closed. Luckily they were open. Upon arrival, I looked over the menu. I decoded one meal to go and one for there (dinner! Thinking forward and trying to avoid taco bell at all cost, the meal that I ate there was some sort of chicken cutlet with rice; it was amazing. The second item is a small pieces of chicken I a chil brown sauce. Sorry, I told the girl just pick two things and grab me a soda. Lol. My review is both about the flavor of the meals! Alright, I'll have to give this place credit for the pricing. Any college student around the area - if you're starving and you want a good deal, this place is for you. It's like 6-7$ dollars for a good meal, so props to them for that. I know the combo meal comes with soup, choice of fried rice or white rice, your choice of a dish, and a spring roll, a cream cheese wonton. So all in all - really not too bad a price tag for all that. I even saw the fried rice portion which looked absolutely massive. That was roughly 7/8$ I think! So this place seems great in terms of value. I got the kung pao chicken - and it was so-so. Nothing great, and the fried rice was just alright as well. Needed more seasoning for sure. My boyfriend got the sesame chicken - which was actually really good! So eh. You probably win some and you lose some here. Ultimate pro would have to be their takoyaki! Very well done - crunchy on the outside, good portion, good price. I'd definitely come back for the takoyaki and their boba. Service was good, and I think even though the food was mostly alright, the value definitely outweighs it all. I'd come back! read more

Ambiance is ok. Service is ok. Food, however, is getting worse. It used to be so good years back but when the original cooks were gone, both the service & food went downhill. Is it the communication between order takers & cooks? Idk. But we ask for spicy and get regular. We ask for noodles and get rice. We ask for chicken in vegetable fried rice and get plain chicken fried rice. We're starting to give up of Tao Cha. Which is a shame bc it used to be so on point! read more

No rice delivered with my dishes but they did work hard at marking items gluten free. They also sent the order with no soy sauce and the duck sauce/sweet sauce is like jello. The egg drop soup is too. I called my Uber delivery with no response and then called the actual restaurant with no answer. I give them 3 stars for the effort on the GF but the items are basically incomplete or not edible. Though would be with minor changes. read more

One of my favorite local spots for Asian food! Staff are always friendly, food is consistent and the prices are reasonable. Our favorites are the stir fried flat noodles (beef), rice boxes, fried rice and dumplings. Pretty much anything we've had is good though. Good selection of teas (hot or cold) and smoothies ad well. read more

The first time I ventured to this cuisine I came simply for boboa tea, one of my favorite beverages. They have a wide range of flavors and I chose taro. It was delicious and creamy and everything I expected. They earned extra points because they are offering free beverages to healthcare workers with valid ID and check in. My second time I brought my husband and we ordered take-out for dinner. We both got the sesame chicken box with fried rice. I also got a mango milk tea and he got a caramel milk tea. The food was okay. They had some of the best prices I have seen for the options. We ordered egg rolls as appetizers. I would not order the sesame chicken again, it didnt taste right to me. I was told to try the mixed vegetables next time. The fried rice was okay and the crab rangoon was small and would have tasted wonderful if we ate in and it was fresh. Their egg rolls were pretty bland but I really enjoyed the spring roll that came with my box. They were extremely busy when we visited and the wait for our food was about 30 minutes. We will definately be coming back to try other entrees. You really can't beat the prices and the free drink! read more

This was my first visit to Tao and I very much enjoyed it. I got the Empress Chicken Rice Box, with miso soup, steamed rice, spring roll and egg roll. Everything was done very well and priced more than reasonably. The chicken was sweet and tender, but the egg roll was my favorite. Another visit in the near future for sure. read more

I haven't reviewed Tao Cha Cafe up to this point because we always get our food take-out. It's a family favorite on take-out night and everyone loves it. The kids love the Boba Tea along with the Fried Rice and Sweet & Sour Chicken. I love the egg rolls and wontons! The food is always fresh and hot, well packaged. They always get our orders right and double-check before they give it to us. Very friendly staff who make you feel welcome when you walk in. I wish I had pictures to share but that will have to wait until our next visit. If you like Chinese food make sure you try Tao Cha Cafe! read more

I took my family there to eat twice. Delicious Asian food. Cooked hot with fresh ingredients. We tried the steamed dumplings, egg rolls, spring rolls, chicken lo-main and the popcorn chicken rice box. The first time we ate the lemon grass chicken and steamed vegetables. The mango boba black tea is delicious and so is the strawberry green tea with strawberry popping boba. We plan to return and eat again very soon! read more

Staff was nice.They have a good location in Edmond. Asian places usually give you quite a bit of food for your money and this place was a little different. We ordered a Rice Box ($13.47) and it was OK. The egg drop soup to me tasted like I was eating a raw egg, it was slimy and I didn't like it at all. My mom tried one of their cream cheese wonton(I think that's the name) and said it was excellent. The rice was completely flavorless...I know, I know...it's Asian and they usually cook their rice low on salt but this was beyond bland. I will say their Slushies looked amazing! So I hope they taste as good at they look. I would consider going back just to try their slushies. read more

In 2012, I managed to make it to the six month mark. I didn't even make it to the end of January this time, and it's because of delicious places like Tao Cafe. The feeling of shame from being so weak-willed is quickly remedied by a mouthful of Chicken Fried Rice with Curry Flavor. I ordered what I always order. The aforementioned fried rice. If you get it to go, you will be given so much food that you can split it with two other people. No joke. I ate my fill, and saw my brothers 30 minutes later on campus, and gave them the leftovers. They were equally satisfied after splitting the meal. And it's only $6.00-7.00. I also decided to mix it up and try some of the Taro Bubble Tea instead of the usual Thai Tea. It had been a while since I tried Taro, and it was a refreshing drink, quite delicious although a little grittier (I don't know if that's the right word) than I prefer. Still, quite enjoyable. I thought about getting some spring rolls, but I couldn't bring myself to spend almost $3.00 for something that I knew I could get for a lot cheaper in the Asian district. The most disappointing part of my recent experience: as I waited for my food, I happened to be standing next to what had to be two of the most ignorant, stereotypical sorority girls I have ever seen in my life as they made some incredibly racist comments about the staff. Honestly, the words that came out of their mouths should make their parents want to hide in a hole from shame. I expected better from college students of all people. The price of being a popular college student hangout is that you occasionally have to deal with such tools and not just nice people. Like me. read more

Ordered delivery. Crab Rangoon was okay, the usual you get anywhere else. Arrived soggy but maybe better at the restaurant over delivery. Ordered orange chicken spicy and it was not spicy at all. The biangbiang noodles were way overcooked and chopped up but the beef was pretty good. The wonton soup was just miso soup with wontons in it. The dumplings were pretty good but would prefer pan fried over deep fried. Tastes like traditional gyoza. The honey milk tea is very good. The food could definitely do with some improvements and also getting the order correct. I don't know if I would try again. read more

Now that I no longer live in Edmond, I really miss the food and the service of Tao Cafe. I started going to Tao way back when they originally opened and had little to no customers. I am so proud of how they've grown from a little hole in the wall to a super cool establishment that had to expand because they're so great. I love the style of the food. How it comes in the little bento box style platters. Each item separated by the partitions in the bento box is finished with style and the flavors of everything separate is so good as well as the flavors together meld really well. They are always more than happy to change items to be more vegetarian or if you'd like a different style of sauce (brown or white or etc). I've had just about everything at Tao and it's delicious. I think several people have mentioned the boba and bubble teas. I love the green apple and grape. I was skeptical about mixed jellies but those are super good too. The hot black tea is amazing as well. It's so flavorful and just undescribable. I asked the owner if I could buy some of the tea and she sold me a big mason jar of it for a few dollars and it tastes just as extraordinary at home. I haven't lived in OKC now for 3 years and I still have some of the black tea in the jar because I'm so afraid to drink the last bit because it's soooooo good. I almost feel like I'm not paying enough when I leave Tao, since their prices are so reasonable. The atmosphere is great and authentic. It's even more cool when the students from UCO come over and fill the place up and laugh and carry on in their native languages. Tao is and has been a wonderful addition to Edmond, and when I visit I make it a point to stop in and get some wonderful food. read more

My husband and I eat here way too much. We love their food, especially their bento boxes! The prices are awesome for the amount of food we got. Today we ordered Peking shrimp and bamboo shoots with pork bento box. Bento boxes comes with soup, fried spring roll, and cream cheese wonton . They were both delicious today. We used to order the bubble tea drinks a lot, but I guess they have new owners and they do not taste the same like it used too. The milk teas are on the bland side now.
