The waitress/owner amazing, informative of the food and her husbands history as a chef!!! We had the duck, peppered squid, walnut shrimp, a grilled beef dish, fried rice and dumplings, everything was perfect! The restaurant is simple, spotless and clean! The food is made on demand and great. If you are used to American Chinese this might be too authentic for you, they do offer the classics in a more authentic way. I just finished a fantastic and authentic tasting Chinese dinner. The homemade dumplings are outstanding! Also had pan grilled chicken with vegetables, much more complex than the name implies. It is one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever been. I'm so happy this restaurant came to my area! I have been here many times. It has made Middletown a more attractive place. All the dishes are very delicious. When I asked my friend to guess how much a good soup (big bowl) costs in this restaurant, he said it was $20.00. I was excited to try this place based on reviews and I always try and support small Asian owned businesses. But when I called to order, the lady who took my order was so rude. I always order Beef and Broccoli but request it to be spicy at EVERY Chinese restaurant for the last 20 years and this is the only place that tacked on a $3 surcharge for requesting it to be spicy!! And she never even told me she was doing so. The food itself was good but her yelling on the phone when I asked if she had sriracha or hot oil was absurd. She said she can only give things like I would find in my own kitchen. Well I have both those things in my kitchen so her point made NO sense. Also she said I'm already making one of your dishes spicy. My question was, how do you make it spicy if you have no hot oil or chili peppers?! She then just said no. So her behavior needs to be in check if she's running a business. People will go elsewhere even if the crispy duck was very good. read more

If you like Szechuan and Cantonese cuisine oh, this is a great choice for sit down dining in Orange County. I recently went there for the hot pot, but got the duck instead. The crispy duck was boneless, and fantastic. It's not picking duck oh, but it is delicious. One order is one half of a duck and is enough to feed two people. It's not the overly sweet and gloppy typical American style Chinese takeout. The menu does feature some unique items including pork kidney and pork intestines. They do have more conventional food as well. It's not expensive, and definitely worth a try. read more

Service: Tao's is still in its soft opening stage. They don't have their liquor license yet, so there's no booze. And service does require a bit of work. Still, the staff has generally been friendly when I've gone in. Food: I tend to stay away from the Americaneze food if I'm going here. After all, why go to a place that has fairly authentic Chinese food, just to get fake Americanized Chinese food? My go to here is definitely the dry pot intestine. Okay, maybe that sounds weird, but it's really good. If you like very spicy food, that's definitely my suggestion. Note: a lot of people seem to be commenting about the sauce for the dumplings. Vinegar based sauce is actually fairly common, as I understand it. It's not balsamic either. I'm not a huge fan of it, but again, it is a fairly traditional sauce for dumplings, so don't bash it just because it's not your preference. read more

Four of us had a fantastic time at Tao's restaurant. We ordered the hot pot, which I believe the menu said would feed 2 to 3, but there were four of us and it would've fed six. The owner was very instructive and explained the hot pot procedure to us. We also had a few friendly neighbors at the next table who helped us navigate the meal. The broth was delicious, we had the mild and the spicy. The spicy was very very spicy, those at the table adventurous enough to use it, ended up pulling out the chilies. The owner pointed out to us that the price of the broth was on top of the price of the ingredients. That was helpful, since it was listed on the menu but was not very obvious. Beware if you get another server who may not point this out. Have I mentioned yet that the food is delicious? We also ordered Lunch portions of beef teriyaki and Kung pao tofu. Everything was delicious, we could not believe that we finished everything. We liked the fact that you could order lunch portions all day long. The hot part was fun, different, and tasted great. You get 13 different plates of raw meats and fish and vegetables to cook in the broth. Service was good, I recommend asking for a carafe of water for your table. Especially if you order the spicy broth. The only negative was that they don't have their liquor license yet. But they have smoothies! read more

Tao's is the closest thing to authentic Chinese you will get in this area. They definitely accept credit cards. I was floored when I saw this restaurant and that it offered hotpot. I am giving it 5 stars for what it is, in it's location. The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. It's cute and got pretty full on a Saturday night. We ordered the hot pot which was very good but not what we expected since I have moved up here from flushing, queens and the hotpot restaurants in flushing are on a whole other level. They have 3 combinations that you can choose from and we chose combo b. We liked some of the selections but could have done without some. We are dying to come back to try some of their other dishes like the duck and spicy fish in clay pot. read more

My wife and I found this place soon after it opened. What a great surprise. The food is fresh, plentiful, reasonably priced and authentically Chinese. Much of it is spicy although there are plenty of milder options. I love the extra flavor of the spicy dishes but find mixing it with the accompanying rice cuts the heat to a (for me) more manageable level. What do I love here? Here's a partial list. Scallop soup (if fact all the soups) crispy duck (large boneless portion only $13.50), pork with translucent noodles, mince beef with tofu (silky and delicious), sauteed bok choi, sauteed a chai. Since the Covid mess we have ordered take out about once a week. The quality of the food did not diminish one bit. This is remarkable considering that most other restaurants we've been doing take out from during the Covid close-down have shown noticeable loss of quality. I urge everyone to try Tao's during the epidemic. You won't be disappointed and they should be supported to insure they're around when life returns to normal. read more

My husband and I loved this place! The food was amazing and the restaurant was immaculately clean! We both had the hot and sour soup which was the best we've ever had and the pork dumplings were perfect (crispy, chewy, soft)! Both our main dishes were in clay pots and were generously portioned (I had the Chinese Eggplant with minced pork and my husband had a pork dish as well with tender chunks). It had a lot of selections beyond your typical Chinese food menu items to choose from which we liked and after tasting how good the food is we would branch out to new choices. Being that we went during its soft opening, the server was busy with both her hostess duties and work that is still taking place (not in the eating areas), so please be patient, the place is well worth it! read more

I had read the previous reviews and thought to give it a try. My husband and I went for dinner on a Friday night and we enjoyed it. The restaurant was very nice and clean. The decor was simple yet elegant. The hospitality was very nice. They were very welcoming. I ordered the chicken with garlic sauce and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had the fried crispy shrimp. He enjoyed it except for the fact that they fried the shrimp with the shell on the shrimp which my husband didn't like.
