I've never left a Yelp review before, but if this helps even one person avoid my misfortune, it's worth it: DO NOT FLY TAP PORTUGAL. Whatever money you think you're saving, you'll end up paying for in stress, sanity, or the extra costs of cleaning up their incompetence later. It is absolutely not worth it. I have genuinely never experienced a worse customer service or flying experience in my life. For context, I was stuck in customs in Lisbon, where they were experiencing delays and supposedly prioritizing passengers with tight connections. My flight was actively boarding, I asked four separate employees for help, and all three were rude, dismissive, and deeply uninterested in doing anything. Only after boarding had closed did someone decide my situation was urgent. But of course, it was too late. Then came rebooking. There were three more flights that day. The first two were full and, apparently, TAP does not do standby. What airline doesn't do standby?? I went to the gate for one of the earlier flights and asked if there were empty seats after boarding if I could board. I was told I could get on if they were. They confirmed there were, yet decided I could not get on. Empty seats flew to my destination. They put me on the last flight of the day, which would have caused me to miss the event I was traveling for, so I had to buy a completely separate ticket on another airline at my own expense. Before doing that, I called TAP twice to confirm taking another airline would not mark me as a no-show or cancel my return itinerary. Both agents assured me I was fine and I could apply for a refund for the flight at the end other trip. Fast forward to a few days before returning home. I called twice to confirm my itinerary is intact. Shockingly, it was not. I had been marked a no-show and my return was not valid. After wasting hours on the phone during the last day of my trip, they finally "reissued" my ticket, presenting basic correction of their own mistake as if they were granting me a royal favor. Meanwhile, I was then told I could not he reimbursed for the initial leg of flight that I cancelled. I was told it did not matter what previous employees said, but had to pick what more was more important -- getting the refund for the flight or getting a return flight reissued. In sum, missing my connection was avoidable. Everything TAP did was a choice. I would avoid this airline at all costs. If you enjoy paying to be misinformed, stranded, and ignored, book TAP. Otherwise, fly anyone else. Literally anyone else. read more

I must fly TAP unavoidably, but they miss the mark in so many ways it's laughable. ***Be warned, the TAP reservation system is so terrible that some nefarious operators are publishing phone numbers claiming to be TAP Portugal. If you get an operator in South Asia, you are talking with one of those. They will take your information and will give you a run-around and eventually ask for a credit card. *** The TAP online page and their app are useless beyond the initial booking. USELESS. Changes and updates are impossible. This means you call their reservation line in Portugal. I was on hold for an hour this morning, then arbitrarily cut-off, so I'm back on hold right now - 45 more minutes. I thought I would use the time to leave a review. I will hear their hold music in my nightmares. They use small planes mostly, clean Airbus narrow-body. Their seat pitch is among the narrowest in the industry. Transatlantic, this is very cramped, so seat selection is key, but you have to do it when you first book as you will not be able to later. Remember that Airbus tends to use extremely thin seat cushions, so it can be like sitting on a metal seat for several hours. Onboard service isn't bad, the people are nice. Terminal luggage/check-in at IAD people are stern and unresponsive, generally starting the process 20-25 minutes after the posted check-in time while folks in line watch them mill-about clearly not in a rush. The same folks then move to the gate. Expect to have your carry-on weighed and to pay to check it if it is overweight. A tip if you are flying TAP to Porto or Faro - a lot of Brits fly to Portugal and Brexit is way overtaxing the Portuguese passport control system. Where pre-Brexit, U.S. passports moved swiftly, now the Brits are in the same line and it's a mad house. Expect at least an extra hour in line for this. Coming-up on my second full hour on hold and expecting to be cut-off again. Of course like every airline today, everything is an extra fee. Again, this is impossible to manage via any medium other than calling. Did I mention I have been on hold for two hours? read more

After flying TAP for the past 5 years to various destinations in Europe, I can say I like flying tap. It is not the most luxurious airline, but it does come with all the amenities you need . Food is decent. Good selection of drinks. If you pick the right seats, or willing to pay a little bit extra , you will get a good amount of legroom. I do like their seats. Even for a long international flights they were pretty comfortable. However, just like any other airlines , where you catch the flight does makes a big difference. The unfortunate fact is that if you do catch tap in Portugal, I found that's where you receive the worst service. Called what I thought was TAP customer service to ask about cancellation policy. Turned out to be a scam who claimed to have cancelled our tickets without my asking and charged a cancellation fee so had to book a new flight on a different airline. I called TAP a few days later to check if the cancellation went through and it turned out the tickets were not refundable and had never been cancelled, so now I am on the hook for the TAP tickets plus fraud cancellation fee and the new ones I had to purchase. I have asked TAP several times for a refund or anything to help and they refuse. Worst airline customer service I've ever experienced. read more

TAP Airlines took advantage of us in Spain and charged us over $170 for one piece of luggage that was supposed to have been free with United. They charged us this obscene rate and forced us to pay for the entire three legs of our trip, even though we were connecting with United in Lisbon. I see paying from Sevilla to Lisbon since it wasn't an actual United flight. But, they also charged us from Lisbon to Newark and Newark to Dulles, which WAS a United flight. The employees at the counter know you will pay the price because you will not leave behind luggage, so they get you and take advantage of your travel situation. This is done on purpose, and it seems fraudulent. The customer has NO recourse to get a refund since United blames TAP, and TAP blames United. We are beyond livid over this and no more TAP for us. read more
