United Airlines was a good airline to fly on. I really thought their communication skills were top notch. They kept us updated on gate changes, seat changes, and on any flight delays. I would have to say that the seats are cramped and hard to move around. I would agree you felt a little like sardines packed in a can. The plane staff were all very nice and accommodating. When, we were flying into Dulles there were storms and I think the pilot did a great job navigating the landing. Boarding and luggage were all handled smoothly. My only real complaints would be the extra costs for sitting close to the wing and the cramped seats. I would fly United again, but I might check and see how much business class is, since you have more room. So, go ahead, fly the friendly skies of United. read more

I am writing expressing my deep deep disappointment with the level of customer service we experienced at the baggage claim area during a recent connection through Washington International Airport with United Airlines. We approached a baggage claim supervisor, Lulu, with a simple and reasonable question regarding a bag tied to a connecting flight. My brother, who was traveling with a 12 hour layover, initially sought assistance and was met with an unnecessarily dismissive and rude attitude. This also went against what he was told by prior United agents and supervisors on the phone prior to travel about receiving his bag overnight for a 12 hour layover. Hoping to resolve the situation calmly, I stepped in to ask for clarification, but the interaction only became more unprofessional by Lulu the supervisor on call. Lulu was not amenable to helping and responded in a manner that felt unnecessarily confrontational. At one point, she made an inappropriate comment directed toward my mother, insisting we "put respect on her name" and refer to her as "Miss Lulu," she was old enough to be my mother which was abrasive and rude and had nothing to do with the situation. which felt completely out of place in a customer service interaction. Even more concerning, she abruptly walked away mid-sentence while we were still speaking with her, yelled at us that we left her little office space down by the baggage claim with other agents when she was the one who repeatedly just walked out in the middle of the conversation and continue to just speak over me without even letting me talk effectively shutting down any attempt at communication. Additionally, her demeanor became physically intrusive, stepping into personal space in a way that felt uncomfortable and inappropriate. This type of behavior is unacceptable, especially from someone in a supervisory role who should be setting the standard for professionalism and customer care. Air travel can already be stressful especially when dealing with tight connections and baggage concerns and passengers rely on airline staff for support and clarity. Unfortunately, this interaction did the opposite, adding frustration to an already time-sensitive situation. I hope United Airlines takes this feedback seriously and addresses the conduct displayed here. Passengers deserve respectful, helpful, and professional service at all times if working in customer Service is not for you Lulu, I recommend not working at United Airlines or lululemon. if I could give her a -5 star review, I would. I will summarize my UA1057 flight from IAD to ORD and my return UA1634 flight from ORD to IAD. TSA pre-check was very smooth for both of us. TSA has all new modern scanning equipment installed at IAD. Our United UA1057 flight from IAD to Chicago ORD was located at gate D7 across from the United Club located adjacent to gate D8, therefore we hung at the club prior to boarding our UA1057 flight. We boarded UA1057 as Group 1, however while online I was upgraded to first class, using my 20 PlusPoints so I was happy. Our flight departed and arrived on time, however we had to spend some time waiting on the ORD tarmac before arriving at our gate. On our return from ORD to IAD on UA1634 I was again upgraded to first class seat 1F again using my 20 PlusPoints several days prior to our departure. I was very happy that I was upgraded on both of my roundtrip flights. TSA pre-check again was very smooth. We hung at United Club across from our gate so it again was a short walk to our gate. We boarded UA1634 as Group 1. UA1634 departed and arrived on time. Our luggage arrived on an earlier flight, therefore we were able to pick up our luggage very quickly. The United Airlines economy, or even economy plus seats are getting smaller and smaller as the years progress, making for a stiff and uncomfortable journey for any flight longer than say two hours. Having said that this review is especially for their business class - both the regular and Polaris; for the kind of money paid the service offered in business class is not as good when compared to their peers like Emirates or Qatar airlines. As a saving grace, I find them better than some of the European carriers like Lufthansa. Also, I like their regular business class better than Polaris for which you have to pay extra and while Polaris may be enticing on paper, the seats are pretty cramped and the service not so very good. read more

What can I say?? It's United. It is what it is...a hit or miss. I've had some terrible flights and some amazing flights. Being that this was my first flight in 5 years, I can't complain since I didn't know to expect...what has changed, etc. They charge for e v e r y thing: -seat selection -extra leg room -checking in bags -gate checking in bags (esp if group 6 or no overhead compartment available) Did I miss anything?? Basic snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are free. Hopefully passengers won't be charged to walk the aisle or use the bathroom in the future!! I don't remember having to pay upwards of ~$20 for selecting my seat in the past...but since they bundle seat selection and 1 check-in bag, I opted for that ($40 each, total $80 one way). Since I booked a United "Basic Economy", I was only allowed a personal item and ended up in Group 6. Boo. Since it was a short flight, I didn't need the bells and whistles, just leg room and aisle seat. The flight attendants were either super friendly or just cordial. I had the bare minimum interaction with them. The flights flying out of IAD have been pretty seamless, no issues. The United hub at IAD is quite large with plenty of bathrooms. Passengers have to be shuttled from the main terminal. There is a Starbucks at the shuttle entrance, which allows mobile ordering (highly recommended); Dunkin is also available closer to the gates. There are also plenty of eating options available. I don't like airport food and always bring my own food, luckily there are plenty of seating options (outside restaurant seating), most of which also include charging areas for devices. The United app is just fantastic. While I tend to be a bit archaic at times...I loved being able to do almost anything flight-related through the app. This includes checking-in for the flight, adding a check-in bag, viewing the gate/carousel number, etc. They really made everything seamless with minimal interaction. There is also the option to share the trip tracking and boarding passes with others via messaging, WhatsApp, etc. This is especially useful for those picking up passengers. Would I take United again? Yes, of course as long as it's a direct domestic flight. read more

Last time I flew United through Dulles, I had a pleasant experience. The gate agents were very helpful to any passenger that stepped up to the counter. The seating area was comfortable and large enough to accommodate the passengers. It's unfortunate that many times one or two passengers have a bad experience and they bad mouth the airline, when things like weather, mechanical or other issues could be the ones affecting the timeliness of the flight. Missed our connection in SFO to Maui. They rebooked us on Hawaiian Airlines the next morning from SFO at 8am. So we had to spend the night at the airport hotel. Even though we did not fly with them from SFO to Maui, they charged us Economy Plus upgrades and baggage fees - these were never reimbursed. They provided a voucher for one of the hotel rooms. Polaris has some of the nicest lounges I've been to, but for this leg of my 2 week Asia/Australia work trip coming back to the US, there was only their sister company's lounges available so we waited in the New Zealand lounge (farrrrrr better than Singapore Airlines'). The flight itself was nice - it was ON time and I whizzed through pre-boarding and got to my business class seat in just a couple minutes after leaving the lounge. There wasn't much food - I had a small peace of Salmon and fruits, so I can't speak to the actual food, but I liked my seat. I actually preferred it over my Singapore Airlines business class seat which people always raved over. It's more high tech, intuitive, and designed for comfort. I didn't get to stay at the Polaris lounge in SF which I was bummed over bc that's supposed to be one of the BEST lounges United has to offer. I had a layover in SF (and they were boarding already by the time I got off the first flight) and THAT United flight from SF to DC was disgusting but that's bc it's domestic. It was first class but first class in domestic means absolutely nothing. I had to sit next to a woman who wouldn't stop coughing and in this day and age, you better watch yourself bc people get nervous over that. I ended up putting on 3 masks and holding my breath for most of that 6 hour flight. The breakfast wasn't too bad though - sausage, frittata, fruits, and a yoghurt with some tomato juice. I generally don't drink alcohol on flights for work for obvious reasons (and since I don't want to die of dehydration) so I can't speak to the selection there. I'm always going to be a United patron since Star Alliance is what I grew up on, and sure, they need work just like any other airlines, but they are more promising than, e.g., Delta. read more

Everyone has a bad day. Most of my experiences with UA is good. However, Today there were many delays from this flight going to Tampa from IAD. Bathrooms were not working and unavailable to waiting customers. Issues on this flight was maintenance problems. One led to another. UA did not feel their customers need to know what the maintenance problems were. Once maintenance did fix the problems customers still had to wait for two more customers from a connecting flight to join us. More delays. When the plane finally took off the sounds from the engines were horrible. Another observance was how folks treated each other before even boarding the plane, before the above issues were made known. The point of this is does anyone know the two passengers? They are horrible humans. I started my flight to Delhi, India by UNITED AIRLINESon March 5th 2025. The return flight was on March 25th. 2024. Unfortunately i fell sick and i had to cancel the flight more than 24 hours in advance. i gave United medical certificate where the doc, had advised my not travelling. Can I give 0 stars? If I could I would!!! Never have I had a good experience with United. NOT ONCE! (And never have I ever wrote a bad review) Today is just the most recent disaster with United. I had a flight at 5 PM on the 3rd (got to the airport at 3)... it kept getting delayed (no not for weather) more and more until we finally boarded at 9PM. We sit on a burning hot plane for over an hour just for them to announce that the crew officially hit their max flight hours (which they admitted they knew was going to happen hours ago) and so now they have to START TO look for a new crew and expected that to take 2 hours so we de board. So now we sit in the airport for 2 hours waiting until we hear they have found a new crew and they are ALL on their way in as they speak. Fast forward 30 min we hear they are at the airport and on the way and so we board again. 30 minutes later they announce that the pilot decided he would no longer fly the plane because he's tired and so he waited to be at the airport to decide to bail. So now we deplane (again) and wait in line for hours to reschedule and get refunds. While we wait we have tried every resource United has to offer to help and absolutely none of them help at all. After 2 hours waiting in line to talk to them, we are 4 people away (5 people are left in line) and the lady says that she is leaving and that we can take it up with the people online. I told them o tried calling every resource and number and robot they provided and none of them would answer and her response word for word was " well that sucks but we're leaving, take it up with someone else" as she turns her computer off while in the middle of helping someone (didn't finish helping her) and goes. Now they left us without any help at 4:30 in the morning stranded with nothing to do... just another Wednesday at United. All I can say is United will make your life a living hell. I was re-routed here for a later flight because of a delay making me miss my international connection to London and I arrived several hours later than I was supposed to and had a longer layover here than intended. My original ticket was over $1700 so it wasn't cheap - I was told because of 'weather' I didn't need to be rebooked on a partner airline (there were multiple available flights leaving for London that would allow me to arrive on time). I googled the weather issues in the area of departure and found it to be 65 degrees, clear, and sunny. Lies in order to not have to re-book someone due to other airline issues are not my problem when I spent almost $2k to travel with this company. The flight back to IAD was better than coming down for sure but I checked in at 0430 for 0830 flight. That's because I rode to the airport with a colleague instead of Uber. I sat and slept until it was time for my flight. I wake up and the board didn't say Washington. IAD. I walked over to the lady and asked what happened. She said, well you missed your flight. I immediately felt like I was going to have an anxiety attack. I didn't understand what happened. I told her I've been here all morning. Here's my ticket. She tried to tell me I was going to IAH. I kept showing her my ticket.. my baggage receipt and ticket plus my online itinerary all said IAD. She pecked on her computer and gave me a new ticket for IAD which departed at 1330. I was already exhausted. I saw 2 more people get a run around with similar issues. Im not a frequent flyer but strange all the issues i saw that day. Also, the plane stayed on the runway for 35 more min due to the Blue Angels running rounds the airport (FLL) ran the run way as one plane in, one plane out. Watching the Blue Agles fly around was pretty cool. But it was hot and I had literally Been there all day. Not happy. read more

Flying from Dulles to LAX, the flight was originally delayed an hour and a half. Then was again delayed further. I'm not sure the reason for those. Then we were hit with a severe weather hold for a bit. That's not their fault. Then another delay due to baggage loading issues. 3 1/2 hours delayed we finally get in the air. The flight itself was good. We came in at terminal 7 at gate 74 and my connection was in the international terminal gate 202. I've never been to LAX and getting to the next gate was confusing with little to no signage and fewer employees to ask. I finally made it the 5 mile walk about 4 minutes after the flight closed. My connection was a different airline and they weren't able to rebook me. So I had to hike it all the way back to terminal 7. I get to the customer service counter and she rebooked me for a flight more than 40 hours out. She refuses to get me on any next available flight even though this particular itinerary cost more than $24,000. Meanwhile my suitcase is heading to Fiji without me. So I'm stuck in LA for the next day and a half without a change of clothes (that's my fault, I should have brought a carry on). She advised me to make a baggage claim and have them intercept my bag in Fiji and return to LAX. I told her that won't work because I know it won't make it back to LAX before I can get on the next flight out. Luckily my partner is ahead of me and I'll just have them pick it up when it arrives. My complaint is about flight attendants on both flights. I will be trying my best not to fly United for long international flights ever again. Well in advance of the flight, I chose to upgrade my seat to business class for a more comfortable seat and what I thought would be a great flying experience. The seat was nice, but the service was not. On both flights (going to Athens and returning) the flight attendants were rude, abrasive, and short in their responses. I felt so uncomfortable asking or speaking up about anything. On the flight to Athens, I shared my allergies and they were brushed off and laughed at as if they were irrelevant. I am allergic to shellfish and tree nuts, I shared that and the attendant responded "well just don't order that" and walked off. I was then served TREE NUTS with my drink which I DID NOT order. On the return flight to DC, I pressed the attendant button for service to ask for snacks mid-flight and was met with an attendant who made faces at me as if I was inconveniencing him as I asked my question regarding the snacks then was finally told that the snacks were self-serve at the front (no problem). Every single attendant on the return flight was rude and mean. I felt like I was being bullied by grown adults. I was polite the entire time and did not ask for much. When the final meal was served before landing, the attendant brought me items to which I could not tell if they included nuts, for safety, she took back the dessert, I asked if I could substitute the bread for sourdough since I had that before and she said they are not serving it with this meal, but I could see the lady across from me had it to which I asked what does she have and the attendant responded with a rude hand gesture and dismissive attitude that they were out of it (which is also fine, I don't know why she did not say that from the beginning). In her defense, she did end up bringing me the pretzel bread and taking back the other bread but at that point I felt so embarrassed and so much of a inconvenience and like I had wasted my money to the point where I had already cried in my seat. I don't get why I was treated in such a mean way. This was NOT the experience I thought I would have when I opted to upgrade my seat paying almost $3,000.00 more for the flight. If I had to choose again, I would not choose United for a business class flight because the service I received with Qatar on international business class flights is like night and day. You are treated like a human who matters, your allergies are taken seriously, your requests are met with kindness and you do not feel like you are inconveniencing the staff by merely existing. read more

United cancelled my overseas flight while I was at a layover in dc. . I had paid for premium seating. I spent 4 hours on the phone with United trying to get a new flight as I was stuck in Washington DC. United then stuck me with horrible economy seats on flights with more layovers even though I had paid 700 dollars for premium seating and only one lay over . They refused to upgrade my seating and I was smashed in a horrible seat on a flight with more layovers And then I was out even more money as I had to pay Portugal airline for an Aisle seat as United rebooked part of my flight with them. This situation has happened to me before and United never refunds the upgrades I paid for. And I spent 4 hours of my time trying to rebook a flight they canceled due to mechanical issues. So I lost a lot of money and time and got sick on their flight because I have claustrophobia and that's why I never book a flight with horrible economy seating and never do multiple layovers. When I needed to cancel less than I week after booking American refunded me immediately and United gave me a credit? When I called, and emailed, I was told the ticket in their end was nonrefundable despite all of the up charges that had been added to it and they refuse to give me a refund. Super. read more

Had very nice experience with United and compared to other airlines, We have had fewer delays. Staff always handles issues well and planes are very nice. Selection of entertainment and food on flights is ok. read more

Actually had a great experience with United. I sat at the isle west one leg of the flight, and the second leg I was in the middle. I'm fairly small and don't need a lot of room, so I didn't mind. Flight attendant was nice and helpful read more
