I love that my brain still thinks I can whip out fouettes, when in reality, I'm far from even 50% as flexible as I once was. But finding the right studio is about getting to have fun and dance. I attended a Jazz Funk class at Play Studio and it was so fun! I appreciated that the class was a challenge. This studio is suited for people with dance experience. While there are likely people here training to dance professionally, there are also people who are just here for fun. But, I like that the classes are at a level that create a challenge and keep your brain moving as you move through the choreo. I hate a boring class and this wasn't the least bit boring at all. The class moved quickly! The vibe was good and it feels like there's a nice community here. I love the variety of options they have and I'm excited to try a pom class next. The studio is located on the second floor of the building. Parking in the area is tough. Although the studio has a parking lot, there are very few spots. There are paid spots across the street, but it's tough to find a free spot, so leave yourself some time.

I bought a pack of classes during one of their sales as I was very interested in trying it. First off it's always a little intimidating going to a new work out class but everyone here was very friendly and made me feel welcomed. It is a safe space to express yourself and dance your heart out! All of the instructors I've had so far had amazing energy and shared some great moves that were also easy to follow. I suggest letting the check in person know it's your first class so they can guide you (like borrowing knee pads or grabbing a chair for certain classes). Other than my slight difficulty in finding it and somewhat limited parking (there's a small lot and street parking), I love this place and would highly recommend trying it!

Not only did Vernetta fulfill this need, etc. for him (his time), but she also included my twins. When the twins got old enough to climb out of their play pen, Vernetta was not only very understanding about it, but she and the other moms were very helpful. There were times when the kids in the dance/gymnastic class would sit in a circle. Yes, this was the time my other two sons would join in and sit with the group and they would be excited when their brother would win "dance bucks" to redeem for prizes. Ms. Vernetta was so positive, patient, empowering, etc. I can't say enough about her. Yes, indeed, she influenced their lives a great deal. Mike Jr helps out the Chicago community and also teaches (at the catholic university) and our twin sons, David and Robert, also do comparable work /help with the community and work in Washington D.C. Although our sons live so far away from us, we are grateful they had a nice, positive beginning and were around such positive people, like this dance teacher/mom group. Thank you so much, Venetta. The studio graciously allows children to borrow everything needed to participate (ballet shoes, tap shoes, leotards all in various sizes). Young children receive "ballet bucks" for class participation and doing/bringing back "homework" (a coloring page). She has older students help teach the younger classes. This allows for a much larger teacher/student ratio needed for the "littles" to have a successful class. This strategy also provides older students with leadership skills and practice with asserting themselves and directing others! I am thrilled to have found this sweet little neighborhood studio. PS the music is darling!

The studio is in a shopping plaza with a very popular restaurant, so while there's a decently large parking lot, I took the very last spot in that lot. Walking through the doors immediately takes you to a dimly lit studio, with disco ball-like tiling on the far wall. I was pretty intimidated for about 20 seconds before I was immediately welcomed and brought into the fold. Contrary to many other fitness classes I've attended, the women in this class, both instructors and fellow attendees, took the initiative to talk to me and to the other new person. That alone gave this class a much greater sense of camaraderie and helped me feel less uncomfortable being so far out of my comfort zone. Our class was Bad Bunny themed, which was super fun given his recent halftime show. It was a tad fast paced so I was always a bit behind, but I found out halfway through the class that there are set choreos that the folks who have been there longer have learned, so I felt less bad about being unable to keep up. Despite looking like a puppet in the process of getting its strings cut, I had a good time and got a good workout in. It was very fun and I felt like the time flew by. I definitely want to take more dance fitness classes in the future!

The production was beautiful, the costumes were stunning, and the instructors created such a supportive and inspiring environment. It was not just about learning choreography; the girls built confidence, discipline, and friendships that will last far beyond the stage. My older daughter loved it so much that she went on to take their Summer Intensive classes for all four weeks and she absolutely thrived. She came out a stronger, more poised dancer with an even deeper love for ballet, putting her other activities to the side. We have now enrolled in the academy, and she could not wait to get there yesterday getting dressed three hours early. His energy is absolutely amazing; he is so positive, caring and easy to follow. I can't even write this without a grin on my face as I would never think of myself as someone who would take a hip hop class -- although I love to dance. To my surprise, hip hop is not only extraordinarily fun and exciting, it is a tremendous workout. The first class I took (before meeting Prince) left me in corpse position for about 2 days ... and I wasn't out of shape! Prince offers special classes, summer camps and a variety of programs for youth groups. However, his classes are very suitable for adult dance lovers and you will feel very comfortable regardless of your age or ability. Trust me. The first class I took with Prince was when I unexpectedly got the urge to join in on a hip hop class that was outdoors in the middle of a festival in Balboa Park. I had THE BEST TIME. My friends and I laughed so hard while listening and moving to Soulja Boy. Tears come to my eyes at the very thought of what we looked like out there among all those kids doing our thing -- with an audience! But who cares, right? I'm sure Prince would say something like: You live this life one time. Live large. Follow your dream. Dare to go with how you feel. Break out of the box! I have seen Prince perform in various venues and will definitely take another class with him. He creates spaces of love so that people of all ages can experience the comfort of moving from within -- without one ounce of reservation. How liberating is that? Cheers to being real without a second thought. Cheers to Prince and his ability to offer and encourage authentic self-expression. Oh, also, Prince is working on a youth camp that will take place in August 2009. Check out his website for more details.

On a scale of 1 to 10, my dancing skills is about a 1.5 (though Prince and my now wife might disagree about that extra 0.5 I gave myself). Prince was very patient with me and simplified so many of the moves for me so I wouldn't get too frustrated with myself. Two huge HUGE pros about going with Prince is that he is not a "clock watcher" as he said many times himself. He NEVER said, oh, sorry, your hour is up, we'll have to end today's session in the middle of a routine. He has stayed up to 30 mins extra with us on at least one occasion. I felt bad that he worked so late but he was totally into getting us ready. The other awesome thing was how he would mix the dance music for us in his own time and choreograph it with his personal style while integrating our inputs. He had so many brilliant ideas! A couple of really minor cons - his rate is not cheap, but he's worth every penny as he is so good. The second and third sessions, he would still work out the routines during our sessions instead of having it prepared beforehand. But it is very minor as he always stay longer to make sure we're on pace for the wedding day and it only happened in like 2 of the 10 sessions we had with him. I can't neglect to mention that he is extremely flexible with scheduling to accommodate our working hours and other wedding preparations. He also made the lessons fun, which is not easy to do with a non-dancer like myself. Lastly, he came to our wedding to support us! Funny thing was that during the open dance portion, he was trying to help me learn the Electric Slide, always the instructor :) 4.9 Stars
