First off, let me say that this place has everything that you need for a good time. Drink, great food, great ambience and great customer service. I was hosting my sister's birthday party at another restaurant that I won't mention and our reservations were not acknowledged so we had to find something last minute. I called tap tap and told them I had a party of 10 people and I would be there in 15 minutes. They set up a table for us and greeted me when I came in. They were very attentive and even stayed open late so that we could sing happy birthday. They allowed me to bring in all my decorations and put the cake in the fridge with no questions asked. Thank goodness for our foodie friends, otherwise we wouldn't have known of this wonderful restaurant on NE Sandy. I have driven passed numerous time and didn't think of checking this place out coz' the exterior was rather nondescript - goes to show "don't judge a book by it's cover". Food- was excellent and tasty; may be a tad spicy for some, but they have many selections that are non spicy. Also, for the plant based and diary free community, this is great place for they have a good selection of non-meat option. The service was great, the staff were friendly and attentive. We had to wait a little bit for our food, and that could because it was a busy night. But our food came out all at the same time, which was nice. If you're thinking of having a romantic outing, this may not be the place. The restaurant was rather noisy. Yesterday, I enjoyed a day trip to Portland, Oregon. My last visit to Portland was last June 2024, for my birthday. During that trip, we visited the Tap Tap Cuisine food truck on Williams Street, where the food was exceptionally delicious. This time, I decided to try Tap Tap Cuisine PDX on Sandy Boulevard. I was so surprised that the owner remembered me and my two friends from the previous year. While I find it hard to believe, the food tasted even better than before. Both the food and service were truly outstanding, deserving a perfect score. I ordered my usual Griot (pork), which came with fried plantains and pikliz. Additionally, I ordered a side of rice and beans. To my delight, a container of sauce was provided on the side. I also purchased a bottle of pikliz to enjoy when I prepare my own version of "griot" at home. The brief wait is certainly worthwhile, as the food is freshly prepared with evident care and passion. The generous portions required three sittings to finish the entire meal. Their consistency in the preparation of the food and customer service are two important reasons their brand is growing. This is a wonderful place to come to for drinks and apps. The drinks here all look spectacular and the appetizer menu is where I think the value and flavor is at. We came here as a family and weren't sure if the good is family style or per person so we ended up ordering way too much and it was a lil spendy. So if I were to do it over again, I would maybe stick to their appetizer menu that has some great choices and flavors. I also don't drink but my step daughter had a drink and it was a beautiful island looking thing and will have you dreaming of carribean beaches and sunshine. I had the Fried Yucca as an appetizer and it was sooooo good. I ordered the chicken and was trying to keep it healthy as they offer fried or baked. The dark meat leg was good but the breast was huge and as a result, it wasn't as juicy as I had hoped for. We also ordered the Diri Blan which was an eggplant stew with beef and we had one with goat. Probably could've shared just one of these. We also had some lettuce wraps and some other items but I honestly can't remember the names of them for the photos. While the shrimp lettuce wraps were wonderful, the entrees were disappointing. The Fritay plate entre came with overfried, dry and fatty pork and dry and tasteless plantains. NO sweet potatoes and the side of pikliz never came. Was this dish freshly prepared or a left over rewarmed? Most of it went home and, the pork doctored with some sauce and microwaved the next day was edible. Plantains were added to compost. The diri blan, sos pwa & legim was OK, but the blackbean sauce was tasteless and a bit off. The dessert, passion fruit cheesecake was a nondescript cheesecake square with unsweetened passion fruit puree poured on top. Here's the short version of why I won't come back. I was very excited to try this restaurant with my longtime friend. The restaurant was closed when we walked up, which was at least 20 minutes after their opening time. We were reluctantly let in by staff. There was no air conditioning on a hot summer day, and the booths were visibly very stained and dirty. The staff barely interacted with us, and wordlessly dropped menus on the table. We felt unwelcome and confused. We were also informed that "the bar [was] closed". Ultimately we decided to leave and go dine somewhere else. After this experience my friend left a review on another site, and several days later, it is purposely being obscured by more glowing reviews, so be aware of what you're getting into here. It seems like there are some algorithmic shenanigans going on, at least on Google reviews. We were very bummed out by the whole experience. This is not the type of experience many other restaurants in Portland provide. Friendship Kitchen, Tropicale, and Han Oak are all nearby and top tier. Go there instead read more

I really wanted to like this place and have no idea how it has been given so many 5 star reviews. My creole chicken was dry and extremely oily. I tried eating most of it because I was so hungry after being there a couple hours wait. Everything that my friends group was served was dry, and didn't look like the pictures people have shown. I visited this restaurant as part of a weekend visit with a group I work for every once in a while. Upon arrival, our large group was instantly seated. Shortly after, our server came around to take our drink orders and even made suggestions on drinks based on what you like. Afterwards, the food started pouring. Someone made selections of dishes for the entire table, so I didn't really look at the menu. The food was served family style and you would grab what you like. So much food came out! So much! And all was very good. The only thing I personally did not like was the fish as it tasted way too much like the sea. But that was just me, you may like it. One issue we encountered was each dish coming out at a very slow pace. Which meant we digested the previous food and became full. We eventually had to say no more as they kept bringing out dishes and we were stuffed to capacity. My only other experiences with Haitian food have been dinner at Kann (quite a high bar!), buying jarred pikliz (good on so many things!), and making my own epis seasoning at home (keeps well in the freezer and I use it for cooking black beans). All that said, I loved my meal at Tap Tap Cuisine. The appetizers were standouts -- I would make a meal out of the plantain cups and meat-stuffed pastries if I went on my own! My partner and I also shared two main dishes, the homey baked chicken and perfectly cooked grilled snapper. Absolutely use their homemade hot sauces and pikliz, and buy a bottle of hot sauce to take home while you're at it. So good. I don't even know where to start. The Tap Tap cups -- we did the pork ones and it was the perfect amount of spice to give them a little kick after you bite into them. The pork was seasoned to perfection. Our all-time favorite appetizer was the Akra Peyanm. I could have eaten these all by myself. Crispy, fried light and seasoned incredibly. There's a house made sauce that is offered for dipping but I didn't need it! So so good! The pates were good -- a mix between an empanada and a Jamaican patty. You can't go wrong with either beef or chicken. They're super juicy and you can tell that the pastry dough is made fresh. The fried snapper is beyond amazing. I've had a lot of fried fish in my life and from all over the world. This dish is the best I've had. Seasoned delectably, and just explodes with flavors in your mouth. Wow, wow, wow!
