Excellent food and service. The sangria and tres lèche cake to die for. Cozy and locally owned. If you eat here you won't be disappointed.

Lovely place! The decors inside couldn't be homier with dark wooden shelves full of trinkets, contrasting the bright colored walls. Ambience is casual but fun at the same time. Kinda makes you feel like your dining at a grandma's house. Food was also amazing. 10/10 all around. The Mixed Shrimp and Fish Ceviche is a must. Very generous ans super fresh seafood, served with crispy plantain chips. They also didn't hold back on the mains. Again, very generous portion. Two people can easily split a plate. The Chicken Stew came with four tender chicken thigh cooked in a hearty and citrusy sauce served with rice, plaintain, and avocado. The Braised Pork Tray had literally a mountain of soft pork pieces on top of a variety of corns with a side salad and sweet potato patty. This was a very fun and unique dish! Never had anything like it. Had such a good dining experience with their awesome food and friendly service. Definitely will be back to try more! read more

Food was made fresh, tasted fresh and delicious. The beef could have used more flavor, a bit tough. Mixing it all up and eating it together was so tasty. we really loved the fish. The waitress and owner are very pleasant. We would go back to try other things or get the fish plate again. Cute spot in the downtown neighborhood tucked away. We came on a weekend around dinner time. Pretty much empty even though it was around dinner time. Its a cute shop hidden in a residential area. We were fortunate enough to have the owner walk us through the menu and the store's history. We had the chicken stew, potatoe patties, and ceviche. The ceviche they made fresh and was the perfect texture and balance! Served with plantains. 5/5 Chicken Stew with plantains was super interesting. The chicken stew itself had so much depth. Chicken was juicy and tender and served with a generous amount of rice and salad. 5/5! The potatoes patties was very different for me. It had a peanut sauce over it and it worked really well! I liked it very much but I wish there was another serving. 4/5 People here are obviously very proud of their work and it shows in their service and food. I hope they know it doesn't go unnoticed! Food seems authentic. We came right before the lunch rush and were one of two tables there. The other two people had ordered already. About 15 minutes after we ordered a table of 8, one of 6, and one of 5 came in. That was the last time we saw the servers. After 40 minutes our food still wasn't there. Not complex to put together - grilled thin cut steak, a small salad and 3 fried potato cakes. My companion's was potato cakes, 2 over easy eggs and a salad. Cook time for an inexperienced cook - maybe 10 minutes. We were on a schedule and told them if it was much longer we were leaving. The staff was very apologetic and tried to shield the kitchen, saying there were only two of them back there - but we ordered 15 minutes before the big groups... food was good but not outstanding. Food 3, service 2, and timing a 1. I wrote the review based on the food alone or would have made it a 2 overall. High hopes - not a great execution. read more

This restaurant is amazing! You feel like family through the entire service, they are on point but leave you alone to enjoy time with friends. Passion fruit cocktail is amazing! I liked walking for breakfast, this the first time I have eaten here since they reopened. I had their special for Mercury's sandwich week. The pork is good, not breaded like the picture seemed to indicate. It was thinner than I expected but today that was good, since otherwise it would have been too filling. The lettuce tomato and onions were good even though I often omit vegetables on my sandwich, the pickling of the onions was not that noticeable. The roll was toasted, a bit dry but still good. I sat outside and it seemed a bit hot and stuffy inside. I think it has the same cozy inside as before. Service was good, though a bit slow I guess to save trips outside to check if I was ready to order or pay. Coffee came in large cup so I did not need a refill. Went for brunch, and expectations were certainly exceeded. The vibe of the place is cozy and welcoming, and Alexis also made us feel right at home. The empenadas de verde were delicious! What a fun experience Amora was - like going to a new friend's home for a great meal! The food tastes fresh and homemade, the vibe is colorful and quirky (rotary phone art, anyone?), and the service was attentive. Particularly interested in this place as I'd been to Ecuador a few years ago and loved the place. Amora has a friendly vibe, warm with stuff all over the walls, curtains in the red, yellow blue of the Ecuador flag. The waitress was very friendly but there were a couple miscommunications. The vegetarian sausage wasn't vegetarian. My dish seemed a little small for the price. M's dish had good volume, a well-cooked pork chop, but didn't seem particularly Ecuadorian. Some interesting foreign flavors like the plantain and yucca. Overall pleasant experience. read more

Based on other reviews I'm thinking I just made the wrong choice, though the menu isn't extensive after all. We have never specifically had Ecuadorian food so this was a real treat. Tons of flavor and not spicy unless you added hot sauce. There were lots of highlights but the fish stew (which is apparently eaten for all three meals in Ecuador) was really delicious with fresh albacore and chunks of yuca. They were very accommodating to vegetarians (or pescatarians in our case) and the service was friendly and helpful in describing the dishes. It is not on a street that you would not likely be driving on unless you lived nearby or were looking for this restaurant in particular, so definitely seek it out and give it a try. What a GEM of a local neighborhood restaurant! So cute, quaint and cozy - and with such unique and intriguing menu items! Have never tried Ecuadorian food before, and I now will wholeheartedly recommend it and will definitely return!! I LOVE how all of their meat/fish stews, entrees, and small bites plates are also available as vegetarian/vegan options as well, so no one is left out of the unique flavor experience and everyone can try the delicious, delicately spiced entrees and small bites! Personally I loved my potato soup w/ avocado & cilantro - so delicious! And perfect for a cold, rainy Portland day. Also have tried the delectable, *seriously yummy* green plantain thick stew. This place just opened in our neighborhood and I'm so happy that it did! It's hard to come by good and authentic Latin American food in Portland so I'm happy to have discovered this restaurant. I enjoyed the Guatita dish, which is a beef tripe stew that came with a side of fried plantains. The meat was deliciously marinated and the plantains added the perfect level of sweetness to balance the meal. The restaurant itself is very chill and they have outdoor seating for warm evenings. Last time I went, my server was a really sweet and talkative guy who recommended trying their cream soda, which was super yummy. We love Amora! I'm 1.5 gen ecuadorian and the food hits home! The dishes are traditional and legit- I recommend anyone that's missing home or wants to try some South American food - which feels rare in Portland Oregon. I am married to an Ecuadorian so this little Bistro was on our list. The food was wonderful and we really enjoyed everything we tried. I had Locro de papas - a lovely potato soup and the mixed ceviche. My husband had the carne asada. For dessert I had flan and he had morocho. Drinks were good too.
