Great food! Environment! And music. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros with Asada and the food was excellent!

I do not recommend this place for events. My friends and I came here to watch the World Cup match between Mexico & Korea. A couple days before the game, we called to reserve a table and were told it was first come, first served. To make sure we had a spot, we arrived at 4pm for a game that started at 6pm. Since we planned on having drinks, we also ordered food. After waiting nearly two hours without receiving our order (we ordered nachos) we asked for timeframe. We explained that if the wait would be much longer, we would prefer to cancel the food order. Instead of addressing the delay, we were told that if we canceled our food, we would have to leave immediately. The service was completely unacceptable. The staff seemed unprepared for the event, unprofessional in their response, and focused on serving drinks while food orders were neglected. To make our experience worse, the restaurant advertised a "World Cup Specials Menu," but those prices were not honored. We ended up paying full price despite the promotion. Don't understand why a business would advertise specials and then refuse to honor them. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would not return. read more

Met some friends here for food and drinks on a Tuesday night. Our plan was to sit out on their rooftop, but it was a little too chilly. We chose to sit upstairs - - service was slow - - thinking maybe they forgot about us ‍ Menu is pretty big. We started with giant classic margaritas and basic chips and salsa. I decided on the ceviche - - a huge platter of it. It was pretty tasty, except for the sauce they squirted on it. My friends didn't really enjoy their dishes - - Camarones a la diabla and the fajitas - - and instead helped me finish mine. FYI - - they sprinkle cheese on their guacamole. Why?? Let's start off by saying, my mezcal margarita was delicious. My chips and salsa were great. Our server was also very friendly and kept checking in with us. I ordered chile relleno with rice and beans, my wife got the trio of enchiladas. My rice was bland, didnt have any flavor, beans were literally just warm and sprinkled with cheese. No flavor whatsoever. My chile was acceptable, but the cheese was not melted at all. My wife didnt care for her food either, it looked great, but zero flavor. Definitely pass. MX21 is a new spot at the corner of Division and 21st. The building is recently renovated and very beautiful. It also has a "rooftop" which, being on the second floor, is maybe more just like a patio with good views. I went with my partner's work team so we got a variety of dishes and drinks. The food was hit or miss. Chips and salsa for the table were great. It was hard to get a sense of how big each entrée would be based on the menu. I think they could refine things as they move out of their soft opening, especially for a biz aiming to be a little higher end. Service for our large group was friendly and quick. The drinks were all good, so I would keep this place in mind for a happy hour or pregame in particular! read more

Landed from CA and came straight here as a meeting point for all our gals as we were here to celebrate a Bachelorette. I got here an hour early as they were still flying in and it was empty on a friday afternoon. Parking was easy and the place was so pretty. The interior was so nice to look at and I fell in love with the upstairs patio area. the music was loud but bearable and the place was clean. Service was great and our waitress was really nice and attentive! Once everyone arrived we were all raving over the chips and salsa it was 10/10. It wasn't until we ordered our food that things went a little sideways. I learned this day that TikTok can be a trap. I ordered the Green Chilaquiles and another girl did too but red, another ordered birria tacos and asada nachos. The chilaquiles are made from cheap chips and the salsa on both was nasty. The girl that ordered the birria tacos got an instant stomach ache and the only thing that was decent was the Asada Nachos. We were all so underwhelmed and the only good thing we had to say was that the place was nice but the food was a NO. Ill finish this off by saying that a few hours later I came down with food poisining and it was the only food I had that day :( read more

How is this place in business? The hostess tried to discourage us from sitting on their roof deck in the middle of summer... the food is overpriced, the only redeeming part is the ambience, and the hostess tried to persuade us not to sit in the only fun part of the restaurant? SO DELICIOUS! Delightful people working there as a great team! It felt like everyone was writing together. The property is beautiful and has garage doors to open during the summer and a rooftop bar! Ordered the camarones zarandeados and it was not what I was expecting :( The shrimp tasted old and were not the standard style for this dish, they were not butterflied, not grilled in sauce, and the whole shell was still on. It looked like they just threw the whole shrimp into a pan and cooked it with Lawry's seasoned salt. Found while driving by last night while in town. Decided to take family here today. They took reservations for our party of 8 which was great and allow kids. Service was awesome, very friendly and quick and accommodating. The salsa was amazing. Cocktail drinks were great and beer was ice cold on a meat 100 degree day. Sat up top inside with garage door up by roof top, even in the near 100 degree weather, still felt cool inside with a slight breeze coming in. Restaurant is super nice downstairs and upstairs. Upstairs has its own bar as well. Tons of seating. Food was great too. I am picky, I wouldn't say the best, but I would for sure be back to eat again. We all liked it. read more

We came here to celebrate a birthday with high hopes, but unfortunately left feeling underwhelmed. The food was standard for a Mexican restaurant--nothing stood out. I ordered the pulpo zarandeado (octopus), which had a mushy texture and lacked flavor aside from the char from the grill. Toward the end of the meal, I found a hair on my garlic bread, it was stuck to the bread like it was there before they warmed it up with butter, which really put me off. To their credit, the server did apologize and offered a complimentary dessert. However, overall service was lacking; staff only came by once or twice to check on drinks or refill water during the entire dinner. It's a shame, because the space itself is beautiful. The modern Mexican décor paired with well-curated music creates a great ambiance. While the food didn't meet our expectations, I might return for drinks just to enjoy the vibe. read more

I went on a Friday evening as it was really starting to get busy. We were first seated at a community table on the rooftop patio by the owner - who was very friendly. They brought us chips and salsa and water right away and took our drink order. That is when things started to break down. We waited quite awhile to get our drinks and, in the middle of that, they moved us back inside as a large party had reserved our table. We finally got our drinks - maybe 20 minutes or so. They were just OK. We stayed another 20 minutes then left. I was going to order something off the menu but never got the chance. They were really busy at that point. Having worked in the service industry, I tend to be pretty forgiving. A lot of what we experienced was likely new restaurant chaos. They were overwhelmed. I will give them another chance after their grand opening. The restaurant is beautiful as are the views. One thing, the owner has two other restaurants including El Burrito Azteca on Rosa Parks. I like the food there but it isn't high end Mexican. Just decent, good food. I suspect the menu at MX21 is based on his other establishments. So it should be decent (and priced well I might add) but not great. read more

We came on Friday at 5. We sat upstairs inside near the windows. The staff was very welcoming. Nice temp inside with air conditioning running on a very warm day. Great salsa music and overall lovely ambience. The chips and salsa were really good at first. The second dish of salsa was cloudy and not as fresh tasting. The entrees had nice presentation. I should have read the shrimp zarandeado sides as I didn't catch the sides were a salad and bread. I was thinking it'd be typical rice and side of beans. The shrimp were overcooked and I wasn't able to eat three of them because they were mushy and didn't taste right. The rice was decent. The aguachile had good flavor but was super spicy. We also had margaritas which were good. If we come back I'd most likely order something like nachos or quesadilla that can't be messed up. Missed the mark for me during our first visit but will try again for drinks and basic mexican appetizer. read more

Visited with three friends to celebrate another friend's birthday. I arrived first and waited in line with a crowd of others, ungreeted, and forced to stand in an empty lower seating area while employees ignored us in the line and attended to guests upstairs. When we were finally greeted, 45minutes later, staff were unable to locate the reservation we were showing them on our open table app. Staff agreed to seat us upstairs, after another few uncertain looks between them and other staff members. Once upstairs, our table waited another 15 minutes until we were greeted by our server. Drinks were ordered and took far too long, food was ordered and took another 45 minutes to arrive at our table, and when we asked for chips (because everyone around us received chips) staff were upset we asked because they were out of chips. The food was not worth the wait and the service was enough to make you continue going along with your visit because you feel as though it's a social experiment. I get that new things have growing pains, but y'all were NOT prepared to open for business just yet. Staffing, supplies, presentation, and standards have yet to work their way into your operations. I would be willing to try this place again in a few years, if it remains open that long. *** I do hope you'll remain open and flourish, growing from all the feedback you're receiving from folks who have experienced your space as it is. Do not expect reliable service here. We called ahead to make a reservation, which they said they had noted. Later, we called to confirm, only to be told there was no record -- so they made a new one for 30 minutes later. When we arrived, the staff looked completely confused and had no idea what we were talking about. After some back and forth, we were finally seated. Service didn't improve from there. Our drinks came out quickly, but when the server asked if we were ready to order and we said yes, he walked away to help another table. He did this twice. The third time, we had to directly say, "We would like to order now." Even then, he took each order individually and kept asking "Anything else?" -- as if he didn't realize the rest of the table also needed to order. After our table was cleared, we asked for the check, which took over 30 minutes to arrive. The only things that came quickly were the drinks and food -- everything else was slow, frustrating, and disorganized. The food itself was mid, and the service was genuinely bad. Please train your staff -- the experience was disappointing from start to finish. read more

The food is fantastic. I've had an entree and tacos. The two taco plate is just FANTASTIC for a small eater. I stuffed myself with the entree one night, but on several other occasions, I just want the tacos. They are PERFECT. About 7 times I've ordered them and they let me mix and match, one chicken, one pork. Tonight for the first time the waiter wouldn't let me do it. Luckily I was with a friend and we split the two orders, but it seemed strange. The only reason I take off two stars is because the top floor is annoyingly sunny and mostly unshaded as the sun is setting on the outdoor patio and the indoor tables through the unshaded windows. It would be so so great if they could get some curtains, rolling shades, window tint? Now, having said that, I'm adding back a star. it's a small thing, this sun thing. read more

An excellent venue. Friendly staff. But not enough staff. I live in the neighborhood, so I have eaten here twice. They would make far more money if they got drinks and cocktails out in less than 45 minutes and would offer at least another round while waiting for entrees, which also takes too long. We love the upper deck both inside and out. Food was very good, though they wouldn't remove the shells from the shrimp dishes, even though asked. One rule of food preparation is to never put something on the plate the diner can't eat. And pulling shells off of cooked and sauced shrimp is messy for the diner and IMO, should never be expected. That said, they are still staffing up, working out the details. This place has excellent potential. We will certainly try it out again and I expect great things. read more

It's...fine? The host was very friendly as was the server but she was not super diligent about refills or checking on us. Our food was kind of disappointing. We got the shrimp and the octopus diabla. The flavor of the sauce was okay but the seafood was pretty bland. The rice was good but a very small portion considering each of those plates is $25+. Was also disappointed that they did not serve tortillas with either of these meals and instead got two tiny pieces of garlic bread? I don't know I might try again after they've been open for a bit longer but as of right now I won't be back. Just didn't hit for the price you're paying for these plates. Sucks to spend $50+ on breakfast and still be hungry when you leave. read more

Prices were good. For once a place that charged a fair price for an n/a drink. A piña colada for $4.75! The beans and rice were also very good, but nothing else was worth writing home about. We had enchiladas, ceviche, a seafood tower, and fajitas. The rooftop setting was beautiful. We have been curious of this rooftop bar and restaurant being rebuilt on division and finally went in. There was 2 full bars and the second story was in full swing unbeknownst to those just peering in from the street. The bartenders were busy but my bartender Ro clearly knew what he was doing and was handing the rush. The build out looks great, view and rooftop will be surely packed on sunny days. A great new addition for a neighborhood that already has a great food community. Also lowkey a good spot to watch a game on the tv but in a nicer vibe than a sports or dive bar. Would not return. Molcajetes with no flavor. The tortillas didn't come until 20 minutes after the food and that was even with us asking for them multiple times. I ordered a torre de mariscos and the shrimp tasted expired. 3 tostadas for 2 marisco plates. Would forget our drinks. One person never got their food. Portions seem like from the kids menu.
