We've been anxious to try Tapas del Lago and finally had a group of 5 to try it out. Service was amazing and every dish was outstanding. We did 4 cold and 5 hot plus a carafe of wine and it was perfect! The salmon was delicious as was tye lamb and steak. Try the potatoes too! Nice spice and flavor. We will be back! read more

I was slightly disappointed with my overall experience here. Don't get me wrong, service was great! I've been to several other tapas restaurants in the city and the menu options are similar to these. Unfortunately for me, the items we ordered had too much sauce or seasonings. It overpowered the dish... I'm not a fan of mayo or anything creamy for that matter and I couldn't really eat two dishes we ordered because of it. :( read more

So this place is a bit pricey, but if you're in the mood for a fancier evening it's definitely worth it. My girlfriend and I went here for a ladies night, and had a fun time. The food was quite tasty and the drinks were yummy, the service was also was very kind. The restaurant was a bit on the snug side, so if you're looking for a quieter experience I'd imagine a weekday would be your best bet. Grateful to have a nice tapas place in the area! read more

Food was great and staff was attentive. We put in all the items at one time and asked to space out the service. We felt a little rushed with the pace of the dishes. In the end, I wished that we would have just ordered when ready for the next few items. We had 7 items for 4 people and it was enough food. We will definitely be back. read more

Wow. I can't believe I hadn't been to this place before tonight after walking by it so many times in Highwood. This may be my new favorite tapas place. Everything was fresh and flavorful and the service was excellent. First, they brought out bread and a heavily seasoned olive oil dip (garlic, salt, paprika, yumminess!). The patatas bravas were flavorful and perfectly roasted. However, my favorite dish was the hot garlic shrimp. I would have just drank the sauce it was so good. Oh, and I'm glad we got the plantanas dessert. It was perfectly portioned sautéed bananas, a little bit of vanilla ice cream and the most ridiculous sea salted caramel sauce. Amazingly rich. Fun place, great soundtrack, good food, service excellent. To many kids before 7pm to enjoy as a date night. Take the fam before 7pm, go with adult friends or a date after 7pm. I don't like the lines. They don't serve liquor just wines and vermouth. read more

I really wanted to like this place. We love tapas and when we heard about the new restaurant we were excited. We used to go to tapas Valencia and cafe baba Reeba in the city. So we know good tapas. We started with the sangria. We split a pitcher. I'm not sure if they put any wine in it. Not so good Most of the tapas we had didn't have much flavor. Not much seasoning used. The shrimp tapas were extremely small. The goat cheese and bread was pretty good. Pretty pricey! Tapas at ba ba reeba are less expensive Overall just not worth price point. read more

I went last night for the first time. I read all the rave reviews. I agree with the friendliness of the staff. I so wanted to like this place but I didn't enjoy my food at all. I ordered octopus and filet pinchos. I order octopus everywhere I go and this octopus had the weirdest texture and flavor unlike any octopus I ever ate before. The pinchos were tiny dried out pieces of meat that I couldn't identify as filet whatsoever. In spite of other rave reviews I was extremely disappointed and probably wouldn't return. We had a group of 6 for the Valentine's Day 4 course prix fixe dinner. The menu was well planned by Chef Ben with top quality ingredients and perfect execution of each dish. Great fairly priced wine selection. Good beers, ciders and and incredible rosso vermouth with orange slice and olives, unique and excellent. Kudos to everyone there including the great waitstaff. Went with another couple last night. The food was great. The wine list is moderate but well curated. Our server Gio knew the menu well and was a most excellent host. Service was great which included, keeping the bread basket full, filling water glasses and changing plates. Ambiance, well the place is a bit noisy and the washrooms in the bar next store, less than ideal. (Though you can pop over and get a cocktail since TDL is only wine, Cider and Beer) We had (I'll skip the spanish names)..White Anchovies, Garlic Shrimp, Stuffed Mushrooms, Octopus, Meatballs, Bacon Wrapped Dates, Pork Belly, Potatoes in a spicy sauce. We skipped dessert (too full) .. Perhaps another visit will explore more of the cold side of the menu and dessert. I'd say the only item that didn't resonate with our group was the pork belly. While this is Tapas, be advised that these hot dishes are extremely rich and filling so go slow. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant. The service is friendly and efficient. The food is fantastic. If you are on the North Shore count yourself very lucky; the authenticity of the food here is hard to be matched in the Chicagoland area. Wish they had a full on liquor license. The alcohol is thin. Gave them 1 star down for that. If you don't care about the liquor it's a 5 for sure. read more
