We really liked our dinner here. Located adjacent to the Charles Theater, it's in a great location. We were greeted immediately and led to a seat. The waitress gave great service with a smile. They serve great drinks as well as an array of small plates Spanish style. Our favorite dishes was the pollo a la braza, the bistec, the branzino (although it's a tiny amount), and the brussels. Note the brussels are roasted and in a light cream with bacon, as opposed to be deep fried and crispy. They have great desserts, dessert drinks, and even drip coffee. What we didn't love is that the two seater tables are placed extremely close together, and it makes having conversations difficult, especially because you may be competing with loud mouths. But overall, it was a great meal and we will return.

Headed here for a quick dinner after a movie night (conveniently literally attached to the Charles Street Theater). They had ample space on a Saturday night as we were walk ins. We weren't too hungry, so we ended up splitting a couple tapas and a dessert. We got the chicken and cheese croquettes, the Boquerones, and the calamari. Chicken and cheese croquettes definitely had a bit of a kick to it spice wise, but it was managable. The boquerones, which are anchovies marinated in some oil and seasonings, were yummy, but it only came with two little pieces of bread, thus one bread apiece for 2 people. Calamari was probably my favorite of the savories we ate, as the dipping sauce was not marinara exactly, or if it was, it tasted yummy. This honestly would have been a 3 stars, but the chocolate torte cake we shared elevated it to 4 stars. It really hit the spot. Our server was also very nice and friendly and made sure to check on us and make sure our drinks were handled. I'd recommend this for a nice date night or with a small group of friends for sure.

Cool vibe. Warm, friendly, and great service all around. The stools weren't the most comfortable and it felt too far from the bar, but the energy made up for it. The lamb chops (only two!) were overcooked for what I asked, but still super tasty, tender, and the sauce was amazing. The tortilla española was a bit too firm, but had a nice balance of onions and potatoes. Loved the pickles! It could've used a sauce, luckily the lamb chop sauce worked perfectly. The flan looked great, but was way too firm and a bit grainy...flavor just meh. Overall, quick service, nice people, and good food with some misses. I'd come back for the vibe and to try a few other dishes.

I felt like I was back in Spain eating tapas. Eating at Tapas Teatro was a great dining experience. The service was great. Our waiter and the other staff made some great recommendations. In my opinion Tapas Teatro is perfect for drinks with a group, date night, or pre/post show dinner. My partner and I ordered a variety of tapas. I'm a pescatarian who enjoys vegetarian dishes. I felt like there were so many quality menu options to choose from. We enjoyed everything. The Papas Bravas were perfectly cooked and the aioli was a fun switch up from the traditional brava sauce. The Trouta Ahumada, smoked trout dip, was probably my favorite dish of them all. It was a perfect balance of flavors. I wanted something a little sweet and the cheese dishes were calling my name. I ordered the Cana de Cabra. There was nothing left when I was done and that's all to be said about that...YUM! Note: My partner said the pork was salty and dry. We don't typically send things back, but she strongly disliked it. To be fair, this was not a recommended dish. Anyway, I highly recommend!

Second time here in the last several years. Met a friend who loves in the Baltimore suburbs here on a rainy Saturday night at 8pm. Found the very last spot in the garage across the street (that's open til 12am), which I was grateful for since street parking was simply nonexistent. Tapas Teatro does not take reservations, so we had hoped coming later in the evening might give us a chance to be seated right away, but no such luck. They're a smaller restaurant and all the tables were full, but the hostess directed us to the bar to wait. The bartender asked a patron to move down one so two adjacent seats were made available to us, which was very nice. The bartender was helpful in suggesting two gin-based cocktails for us. I had the Mediterrania - made with Mahon Mediterranean gin, orange, basil, and Angostura bitters. My friend has the BCN Tonic #1, which she really enjoyed as a Gin & Tonic officianado, made with BCN Barcelona gin and juniper berries. We ordered seconds during dinner, unwilling to switch since we enjoyed them so much. Within just a few minutes, our table was ready and we were able to transfer our tab to the table easily. We were brought some bread and olive oil for the table while we looked over the menu. We ordered the Gambas al Ajillo, shrimp sautéed in garlic and olive oil. We used our table bread to dip in the remaining oil after devouring the shrimp, and we enjoyed it so much we ordered a second to share. We ordered the Mejillones, sautéed mussels in a white wine garlic sauce (rather than a red sauce, also an option). It took up a lot of real estate on the small 2-top table, but it was very good. My only complaint was there was very little broth in the bowl. I like when the mussels are swimming in it a bit more, giving me something to dip my bread in as well. We ordered the Scallops, which were wrapped in a slice of Serrano ham in a saffron sauce. Also delicious. My friend has the Costillas de Cordero, the lamb chops. I don't care for lamb myself, but she remembered they were delicious from our last visit so she was inclined to order those again. Our last round of tapas included the Brussels Sprouts which were made with bacon, Manchego cheese, cream and truffle oil. Fantastic, highly recommend. And we had the potato and cheese Croquetas, also an excellent choice. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we ordered two coffees, a Torte Chocolate for my friend, and the Teatro Tarta de Quedo - a house made Goat Cheesecake with sherry reduction drizzle. Both were excellent, as were the coffees which helped keep me alert for the 90-minute ride back to Virginia at the end of the night. We left around 10:20pm and we were the very last to leave the restaurant! So there was no problem retrieving our car from the garage that closed by 12am.

I went for a quick dinner before catching Amtrak back north to CT. Arrived right at 5p and the waitress said I wouldn't have a problem catching my 5:40 train since the station is just down the street. Had two delicious tapas and a drink and made my train with time to spare. So delicious and so much better than train food.

What a unique dining experience my friends and I had at Tapas Teatro! Literally everything I tasted was a hit! But it wasn't just the food, the drinks were equally amazing. Most important, all of the dishes were very affordable allowing you to try several without breaking the bank. We arrived at the restaurant around 530pm on a Saturday. The venue was completely filled, so word to the wise, get their early or be prepared to wait. The restaurant is small and pretty dark. The seating is different, not what I expected, but comfortable. They definitely made the best use out of a tiny space. I started with the Rojito, a tasty rum based drink. For my meal, I had the Idiazábal which consisted of sheep's milk cheese with dry cured chorizo, whole grain mustard, caper berries and crostini. I also had the Salmón con Melaza which was a grilled salmon on top of ginger-jalapeño rice cake and Mejillones, mussels in a tomato basil sauce. Every dish was so tasty, but I think I enjoyed the salmon the most, the ginger jalapeño race cake was truly unmatched. I cannot wait to bring my husband here for date night. I am sure that he will love the cuisine. Many thanks to my friend for introducing me to this amazing restaurant!

Marmitako: Basque stew of tuna, potato, roasted sofrito and tomato

We ate dinner at Tapas Teatro a few weeks ago after a movie. The service was good, and the restaurant is comfortable, casual, and nice. The food was just pretty good - some dishes better than others! We shared the empedrat de bonito del norte (white beans, fresh green beans, piquillo pepper, red onion, and capers, topped with Spanish conserved tuna); chili rellenos (piquillo peppers stuffed with aged Idiazabal cheese); berenjana asada (roasted eggplant, curried vegetables, minted yogurt); pulpo gallego (olive oil poached octopus, potato, olives, and heirloom cherry tomato); and marmitako (Basque stew of tuna, potato, roasted sofrito, and tomato). My favorites were the eggplant, piquillo peppers, and bean salad. The marmitako's tuna was really dry, which kept me from being able to enjoy that dish, although the stew itself had good flavor. And the octopus was almost tender - but not quite. Their wine list is pretty great - lots of interesting options. Overall, it was a pretty good meal, but I liked its chill vibes and service more than the food. I'd probably return, especially as its basically inside my favorite movie theater in the city!

I went here for a cocktail before seeing a show at Metro Gallery across the street. The interior was beautiful, though it was a bit chaotic. Seemed to be that you seat yourself and someone comes to serve you, which is unusual for a nice restaurant on a weekend night. However, the cocktail was delicious and reasonably priced, so they are definitely worth a visit.

I lived in Seville, Spain, for 3 months. The tappas here take me back!! I judge a Spanish tappas joint by their croquettes, tortilla Espanola, and gazpacho. They deliver everything to perfection both in flavor and preparation. I didn't get to try the gazpacho, but I will be coming back for sure! The tappas portions can serve 3 people.

Great paella and dessert! Seafood paella was large and shareable between two people and made us both full. Dessert of chocolate fudge cake was so good

I really liked this tapas place! First of all their fig old fashion was really yummy! It had a nice sweetness to it and was really good with the whole meal. I really loved the grilled octopus. It was grilled to perfection. It was perfectly tender and juicy inside and it was charred perfectly on the outside. My next favorite think was the potato and cheese with truffle oil croquettes. They were so good! I loved the gooey cheese on the inside and the potatoes too. It went well with the truffle oil too. I really like all the dishes we got! The Brussels sprouts were good too! They were soft and creamy which I really enjoyed. I would definitely go back to this place!

Grilled lamb chop is juicy. And it has a little smoky flavor. Rhubarb bbq sauce goes well with lamb. Grilled pork tenderloin is kind of plain and dry. Chimichurri sauce doesn't improve the flavor well. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. I felt relaxed after a busy week.

Our server AJ took great care of us- they were funny, attentive and very friendly. For restaurant week the menu honestly was fantastic with many options for every person's palate and dietary preferences. I went with the octopus appetizer, squid ink bucatini with calamari, and a pound cake with lemon curd and mint whipped cream. Every single thing I had was delicious. The octopus was grilled perfectly and tender and the bean puree and potato paired nicely. The pasta was umami and not too tomatoey or acidic. My pound cake was tasty with the tanginess of the curd pairing well with the whipped cream. My boyfriend enjoyed his mushroom soup, his mushroom bolognese rigatoni( i tried this, I would absolutely order this next time)and a decadent chocolate tart. Each taco is extremely fresh and I can tell that it was crafted meticulously in the kitchen. Be mindful that each taco is priced separately and you get a single taco ranging from $10.00 - 15.00. The guacamole is fresh and garnished with strawberries. Personally, I typically go for a spicier and more flavorful guac, but if you opt for a fresh and simple dish, then it certainly checks the box. The queso is thick, cheesy, and topped with peppers. I personally could appreciate a creamier queso, but I will say the dish looks and smells amazing. The oysters are rather small in size but they're extremely fresh and come topped with a jalapeño. My expectations for the drinks were a bit higher than what they delivered. Drinks tasted a bit watery and the flavor wasn't as potent (this says a lot for someone like myself who is pretty light weight). Service was fairly accommodating, however, keep in mind that they enforce a rule of having half of your party there prior to seating you. Also be mindful that their menu changes to dinner at 5:00PM, and seating at the outside bar may be closed depending on when you arrive. My favorite of all the dishes was the was the Al Pastor taco! We didn't get a chance to come for her birthday but instead, came for our wedding anniversary. We've brought family here on special occasions, celebrate my wife's birthday three years ago, have come for happy hour and we've always enjoyed the food here. It was no different this time. I absolutely loved the patacón salvaje which we've never tried before. They use cornmeal to coat the calamari so it is naturally gluten-free, which my wife was able to eat. Also, their Caesar salad was delicious. The bar was set high from our first two courses. I wanted a second order of the fried calamari but we had a steak coming. We were warned about the restaurant being short staffed on Sunday, since we told the hostess that we tried making a reservation through Resy, but nothing was available until Wednesday, which the hostess found odd. Because they were short staffed, things took longer than usual, and our food came out really slowly, but that was a communication issue with the waiter. We saw tables around us who ordered after us get their food first, but we appreciated the waiter who chdecked in on us realizing it was unusual that we've been sitting for a while without any food. The food was worth the wait though. Although the steak was good, and the yucca that came with it plus the sauces, I feel like it wasn't as special or outstanding as the first two dishes. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium, but there were parts of the NY strip that looked a bit rare. We also ordered dessert, the Cacao+ and they also brought out two glasses of non-alcoholic Prosecco which were all on the house. Since it was during happy hour we were able to get drinks at a slightly reduced price and I had the cilantro honey Margarita which was outstanding. Our friend got a Paloma and another friend had just a regular margarita. They were different in color and taste but were really good. We started out with guacamole and chips and the guac was delicious. We were charged for chips and addition and I would have thought that if we were ordering guacamole that the chips would have come with it but it did not, it was an extra charge. For our main entrees, I ordered a ceviche with shrimp, octopus, and sea bass and it didn't come as I'm used to as there was a container of white sauce in the middle which was good I just didn't pour it all over the ceviche and dipped in instead. Good food, nice staff, nice decor, good for groups, upscale pricing…read more We planned a gathering of friends from all over the area. Tío Pepe came to mind as an old-school favorite, and it drew in some folks we havent seen in a while for a chance to get haircuts and dress up a little for a memorable dinner. Reastaurante Tío Pepe is a nicely decorated taste of old Spain and Europe, a little north of downtown Baltimore. Look for the deep red awning over the descending stairs. There's an ample garage across the street. Around 6:30pm on a Saturday, we entered a lush hall and a dark comfortable bar area, with a coatcheck room just to the right. We arrived a little earlier than our group, so we found seats at the smallish full-bar with the imperial-red or ruby-red granite top. We had a great old $15 Catalonian Yzaguirre sweet red dulce vermouth rojo, caringly flavored since 1884 with distinct yet mild herbs reminiscent of the way the beverage is custom-infused in the old small bars across Spain. It was slighlty-sweet and richly complex. Quite refreshing, and they have even nicer vermouths on the menu, too. And we had an $10 rich amber dry white sherry, possibly a Gozales Byass which we noticed mentioned on wall décor, milder than the vermouth yet also fully flavored. We liked the authentic ambiance of white-painted stone walls and well-chosen items of décor from Spain. Our group of 20-or-so was split into two tables. And the eleven at our table also went through three $32 pitchers of tasty sweet sangria! So it was a lovely evening :-) Waiters in bright red jackets were very attentive. The food we chose from Pepe's extensive menu was good. We got $14.50 garlic caracoles, snails in butter, to pass around as an appetizer. A fun gently-flavored rather-chewy treat for the adventurous! Well, "caracoles". We had $10 Crema Escarial, a flavorful bisque with seafood and Brandy de Jerez. It had only the tiniest brunoise-size chunks of seafood in it, though, or whatever the Spain equivalent of "brunoise" is. We had a $13 Sopa de Pescado y Mariscos, a soup loaded with shrimp, mussels, clams, fish and lobster chunks, plus rice and some veggies. This was a much heartier choice. We had $17 Ostras Gratinadas, an oysters-Rockefeller of five large oysters loaded with spinach and cheese. They were very tasty and satisfying. We had a well-made $10 salad that included artichokes, beets, watercress and a sweet vinaigrette.  Many of us had different fish dishes, most around $36. They were fresh and tasty in a variety of flavorful sauces. The $36 sole, Filets de Linguado Alcázar, was perfect, with hollandaise made with bananas! That was a real treat! Ask your servers about off-menu apps and mains, too. We ordered fun twice-fried "puffed" potato wedges for everyone, hot, light, and just a little salty. We shared $14 Tortilla Sorpresa Fantasia Española, a baked Alaska, prepared table-side by red-jacketed staff. An exciting delicious spectacle! And a number of us split huge tasty $12 Brazo de Gitano a los Piñones, lush pine-nut whipped cream rolls.  A few weaker points: it was a busy night for the restaurant, and staff seemed a bit behind the curve. Food took a very long time to come out, around 3 hours from start to finish, and some of us had entrees half-eaten while others were still waiting. Several of us said their rice was only lukewarm. A couple of folks were unimpressed by the tenderness of their fish. For two of us, the total at dinnertime was $135 before the tip, and we had really modest dishes plus we paid for one of the pitchers of sangria. I imagine others were over $175 per person. The restaurant at large seemed happy, and we liked our food and drink. But for me, i expect everything to be quite delightful at those prices. I admit, most of the time we have previously come here over lunch, which has lower prices. It was fun evening, and our group seemed very happy, with several toasts and homages to our family of friends, and the hospitality of Tio Pepe :-)

All I can say is WOW. My dining partner and I had such an amazing experience here. First of all,…read morethe restaurant is gorgeous inside. We had an earlier dinner reservation so it wasn't as crowded at the beginning but was quite busy at the end. We tried a couple different cocktails and I loved both of mine - Ashta Affair and Asfar So Good. The Ashta Affair was sweet and creamy and the Asfar So Good was deliciously refreshing. My friend really enjoyed his Old Fashioned Date and had a fun experience trying the El Massaya Arak. For appetizers, we ordered Muhamara and Mousakhan Chicken Rolls. The Muhamara came with pita and was such a great dip. The chicken rolls were equally as good with their own sumac labneh dip we enjoyed. For entrees, we shared the Braised Lamb Shank and Makloubeh. The portions were large and the meat was tender. Neither were over seasoned and were absolutely delicious. We couldn't finish it all and saved the rest for leftovers - yum! We wanted to try their dessert and ending up getting the Ashta Bil Asal and Ruz Bil Karaz. The Ashta Bil Asal had cotton candy which made it a fun dessert to try and the Ruz Bil Karaz had a great caramelization coating. Neither were overly sweet which we preferred. It was such a great ending to our meal. I absolutely loved my experience here. Our server, Miriam, was friendly and attentive. We even chatted with the GM, Iman, who also made sure we were provided a great first experience. I cannot recommend this place enough for anyone who's looking for a boujee but amazing time!

We started with Arabic coffee and the Harra Wala cocktail--both were really good. The coffee was strong and flavorful, and the cocktail was unique and refreshing. For food, we ordered batata harra, beetroot hadiqa, lentil soup, saffron pita pie, and saffron rice. Everything was solid, but the saffron pita pie and batata harra were probably my favorites. The lentil soup was super comforting too. For dessert, we got the raspberry sorbet and baklava--perfect way to end the meal. The sorbet was light and refreshing, and the baklava was sweet and flaky. Service was great. Our server made sure we enjoyed our meal and was available to explain the menu options and checking on time to time if we need anything. Overall, a great experience. I'd definitely go back!

OMG! Thee best ravioli ever! Between the best tasting beef on the inside and the freshly made…read morepasta, and the sauce, OMG!!! I've had ravioli at many restaurants, and this is by far the best! But let's start from the beginning. The place is small, there's not getting around that part. Let's call it quaint. There's the bar, several 2-seater tables, and a few 4-seater tables. Think converted row home, but only the first floor. Still, it packs a punch, in a good way. Let's call it cozy. We had a reservation, so we were seated right away. We started with cocktails. I ordered an espresso martini and my partner ordered El Fresco. They were both tasty. I've had better espresso martinis, but it was still good. My second drink was a beer. The draft machines were down, but the beer was still good. My partner ordered the strip steak that came with fries and salad. It wasn't your average salad. It was delicious. The fries had garlic & parsley. The were delicious as well. And she absolutely loved the steak. So much so that she kept trying to save some for the next day. It was a delicious meal! The parking is street parking. It's a cute spot. We'll be back!

They give you toasted bread with chimichurri as a starter-- definitely a nice addition. For the main course we had the vacio and bife de chorizo, both were excellent and served with a salad and fries. The beef was perfectly cooked to order and well seasoned. For dessert we had the flan con dulce de leche, wow! Really nice closing to a great meal. They also have a nice selection of wines and a full bar. If you're a soccer fan (specifically River Plate) you'll enjoy the place a little more. They have a replica of the FIFA World Cup you can hold. Anyway, definitely a worthwhile place to go for a meal if you're in the area. Note: they open at 5:00 pm.
