    Oxtail dumplings
    Cammi P.

Josefina is a new restaurant in Baltimore. The Spanish-flare, unique menu is to not be overlooked. The burger was delicious, the chicken paella melted in your mouth, the oxtail dumplings are a must order and the bread is a perfect accompaniment. The restaurant is small and quaint. Disappointingly, there was a mixup with our order. Our waitress thought we ordered some pork dish, in addition to the burger and chicken paella that we did order. After that, the service turned very cold. We were reluctantly handed the bill after our food was packed up. We noticed that the tables around us got some chocolates and candies when paying, that we did not receive. I promise that we did not order the pork dish, and it was clearly some type of confusion and miscommunication. When the bill came, the pork dish was on our receipt and included in the total, but then was removed and listed as "error and mistake." Despite the delicious meal, this definitely put a sour taste in the mouth with the way it was handled.

10 out of 10, absolutely no notes! Food is amazing! The oxtail dumpling is honestly one of the best things I've eaten in my life. The cod was delicious, and the duck paella was completely out of this world. The service was great and the vibes are lovely, such a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. I've been here three times since they opened, and it has been amazing every single time. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to.

We had a great time at Josefina this past Friday. We went in for a 5:30 reservation and left around 8 pm after snacks, tapas, rice, main, and dessert. We ordered conservatively with cheese and meat plates, oxtail dumplings and the salpicon de mariscos, garlic mushrooms, paella, and iberico pork. We shared the torrija and basque cheesecake for dessert. The service was wonderful. Our server was attentive as were a handful of other staff, including the bussers who kept a close eye on our water glasses and refilling for us. They changed out the silverware twice and wiped down the table both times - and wore silk or satin gloves while providing the fresh silverware. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and got back to us quickly if we had questions she couldn't answer. My friends loved the mojito mocktails. I really think my favorite dish was the garlic mushrooms - they were so savory and the texture was incredibly meaty, but not rubbery at all. The paella was flavorful and the pork was delicious. The environment was clean, modern, and felt like a true lounge. It was a calm vibe upstairs where we were sat. Overall I'd eat here again. The experience was as good as the food. Definitely recommend!

Came here for this months friend dinner and had so much fun. The space is surprisingly pretty big, decor and ambiance is gorgeous. It's traditional family style so everything is considered shareable but I would say the tapas are definitely a one person plate, unless you're getting a bunch of different things to try. Our waitress was nice and accommodating. We got a lot of things so I'll break it down by category. Starters/Tapas: roasted cauliflower, burrata, oxtail dumplings, mushrooms, cheese plate. The oxtail dumplings were the reason we came, I do think they could've used a bit more flavor but they were yummy and creative. The mushroom medley was delish. The burrata was a fancy take, I didn't eat the salami that was on it but the balsamic pearls were such a cool fun additive. I did not personally try the cheese plate or cauliflower but those plates had nothing left on them by the time my friends were finished lol. Large Plates: Pork, Paella, and seafood rice. My friend and I both got the pork, she loved hers but for whatever reason, my stomach was not in agreement with it so I did send it back for the seafood rice instead. Maybe I was picky this day but I didn't care for that either. The seafood itself was cooked to perfection, the rice was just way too fishy for me. Desserts: cheesecake, churro (not pictured), and the rice pudding ice cream. All delicious, no notes. Drinks: espresso martini, Marbella, and Velo. All very yum. Didn't get pics!

Learned of this place on Tik Tok. It's beautiful! Strictly street parking or parking lot nearby. Great and attentive service. I ordered the cod, cauliflower, bread with garlic butter (not on the menu), and French 75 mocktail. Churro for dessert. Everything was decent. Wasn't crazy about anything.

Overall, 3.5-4.0. Food: tasty, unique but more tapas style. Would recommend getting more plates than not, every plate is appropriate for maybe 2 people to share. Environment: upscale, good service. Drinks: 10/10, unique and with nice presentations. Would definitely come back and try more options.

Food: everything tastes great. They're very creative with their dishes. Not pictured were complimentary glasses N.A. rose because we were celebrating our anniversary. Service: the server was attentive and people explained the dishes. Ambiance: it's decorated simply but well Con is that it's a little pricey but not surprising for fells point

I hope this place sees longevity in the industry. It's not many latin restaurants in Baltimore on this level. There is a huge market for this place and I hope it thrives. It's intimate, low light but not the typical dimmed light where you are reaching for your phone flashlight. It's lit enough for you to see everyone dining but still provides a setting that feels personal. I love the open kitchen concept. Staff are warm, inviting, personable and remembers every detail. They even collect umbrella's at the door to avoid wet floors. That attention to detail is unique to say the least. The food was great. We ordered the bread & butter, oxtail dumplings, and garlic shrimp as starters. Each dish was perfect. The wine was incredible. For the main course, we ordered the pork dish and seafood paella. Both could have used a bit more salt to bring out the flavors but still pretty good. For dessert, we ordered the churro and rice pudding with goat milk ice cream. Pretty good but we mix both desserts together and wow! If you order both, put them together for a flavor bomb. We were celebrating a birthday and were provided complementary champagne and small bite desserts. Parking may be a bit difficult so arrive early. We were lucky to score a spot right in front but that was Thursday evening. Pricing is a tad bit higher than what I would typically pay for a meal in Baltimore (around $150 each after tip) but that wouldn't deter me from going again.

Josefina is a gorgeous restaurant with a beautiful bar and 2 floors of seating. The open kitchen is a cool concept. We sat at the bar since we walked in without a reservation and it was very comfortable. The bartenders are the best part of Josefina and probably will be returning just for drinks. Every drink we had was excellent! The food was very delicious but just really small portions for the price. The concept of elevated tapas or small plates is still hard to justify higher prices which is why I had to knock a star off. I actually ate beforehand because I knew I would be leaving hungry. The Bravas were delicious, wish we had more. The tomato tartare on soup was delish as well. The dumplings were excellent. The dessert with the honeycomb on top was delicious and something I would also return for.

Went to Josefina for dinner with a friend. Very cute place. Staff was very friendly, offering suggestions on drinks and food. Food is served as a shareable plate. We tried the Papitas Brava (potato with sauce), Camarones Al Ajillo (garlic shrimp and toast), the Rabo De Toro Dumplings (oxtail dumplings), and the seafood rice. Though the food is sold as "shareable" they only give you two dumplings, and considering the dumplings were my favorite part, I did not want to share lol. The best dishes were the dumplings and seafood rice. After we were done we went to sit at the bar and the bartenders were great. I was able to say "make me something good" and they made something cute and delicious. Now, this place is rather pricey, but for certain occasions I can definitely see myself returning!

Josefina was incredible from start to finish. The food, service, drinks, and overall vibe were all amazing. Our waiter was so attentive and made the whole experience feel effortless and welcoming. The drinks were perfectly made and paired so well with the meal. The seafood paella was packed with flavor--rich, fresh, and beautifully cooked. You could tell a lot of care went into it. And the cheesecake... wow. It honestly felt like biting into a cloud. Light, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Such a great atmosphere and dining experience. I would definitely go back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great night out!

We made reservations for their opening night and had high hopes, but unfortunately the experience felt overpriced for the amount of food served. Paying $20 for two small dumplings is quite unreasonable. While the dumplings were good, they weren't worth the price. We also ordered the boquerones tapas, which were tasty, and my tomatillo cocktail was very enjoyable. The desserts were just okay. The churros were extremely overpriced, and the portion size was almost laughable. The Basque cheesecake was tasty, but not the best I've had. The service also needs improvement, though I'm hoping this is just opening-night growing pains. We were seated promptly, but it took a long time for our order to be taken and for anyone to check on us. There were only two servers covering the entire first floor, which likely contributed to the delays. The space itself is beautifully decorated and the interior design is very nice; however, the bright lighting and loud music felt mismatched. I wasn't quite sure what vibe they were going for, and the overall atmosphere felt a bit off. Overall, I think this place still needs some work. I hope it does well, but based on our first visit, I'm not sure how it will fare in Baltimore City.

Such great flavor at this new Baltimore restaurant! It seems a little small inside so definitely recommend a reservation but it's well worth it. The oxtail dumplings are a must-- we ended up getting an extra order, they were that good. Everyone was wonderful from the servers to the host.

Honestly, this place is one of the most solid institutions in the city so I'm very glad that they were doing well. The food here was a mix. Good food, nice staff, nice decor, good for groups, upscale pricing…read more We planned a gathering of friends from all over the area. Tío Pepe came to mind as an old-school favorite, and it drew in some folks we havent seen in a while for a chance to get haircuts and dress up a little for a memorable dinner. Reastaurante Tío Pepe is a nicely decorated taste of old Spain and Europe, a little north of downtown Baltimore. Look for the deep red awning over the descending stairs. There's an ample garage across the street. Around 6:30pm on a Saturday, we entered a lush hall and a dark comfortable bar area, with a coatcheck room just to the right. We arrived a little earlier than our group, so we found seats at the smallish full-bar with the imperial-red or ruby-red granite top. We had a great old $15 Catalonian Yzaguirre sweet red dulce vermouth rojo, caringly flavored since 1884 with distinct yet mild herbs reminiscent of the way the beverage is custom-infused in the old small bars across Spain. It was slighlty-sweet and richly complex. Quite refreshing, and they have even nicer vermouths on the menu, too. And we had an $10 rich amber dry white sherry, possibly a Gozales Byass which we noticed mentioned on wall décor, milder than the vermouth yet also fully flavored. We liked the authentic ambiance of white-painted stone walls and well-chosen items of décor from Spain. Our group of 20-or-so was split into two tables. And the eleven at our table also went through three $32 pitchers of tasty sweet sangria! So it was a lovely evening :-) Waiters in bright red jackets were very attentive. The food we chose from Pepe's extensive menu was good. We got $14.50 garlic caracoles, snails in butter, to pass around as an appetizer. A fun gently-flavored rather-chewy treat for the adventurous! Well, "caracoles". We had $10 Crema Escarial, a flavorful bisque with seafood and Brandy de Jerez. It had only the tiniest brunoise-size chunks of seafood in it, though, or whatever the Spain equivalent of "brunoise" is. We had a $13 Sopa de Pescado y Mariscos, a soup loaded with shrimp, mussels, clams, fish and lobster chunks, plus rice and some veggies. This was a much heartier choice. We had $17 Ostras Gratinadas, an oysters-Rockefeller of five large oysters loaded with spinach and cheese. They were very tasty and satisfying. We had a well-made $10 salad that included artichokes, beets, watercress and a sweet vinaigrette.  Many of us had different fish dishes, most around $36. They were fresh and tasty in a variety of flavorful sauces. The $36 sole, Filets de Linguado Alcázar, was perfect, with hollandaise made with bananas! That was a real treat! Ask your servers about off-menu apps and mains, too. We ordered fun twice-fried "puffed" potato wedges for everyone, hot, light, and just a little salty. We shared $14 Tortilla Sorpresa Fantasia Española, a baked Alaska, prepared table-side by red-jacketed staff. An exciting delicious spectacle! And a number of us split huge tasty $12 Brazo de Gitano a los Piñones, lush pine-nut whipped cream rolls.  A few weaker points: it was a busy night for the restaurant, and staff seemed a bit behind the curve. Food took a very long time to come out, around 3 hours from start to finish, and some of us had entrees half-eaten while others were still waiting. Several of us said their rice was only lukewarm. A couple of folks were unimpressed by the tenderness of their fish. For two of us, the total at dinnertime was $135 before the tip, and we had really modest dishes plus we paid for one of the pitchers of sangria. I imagine others were over $175 per person. The restaurant at large seemed happy, and we liked our food and drink. But for me, i expect everything to be quite delightful at those prices. I admit, most of the time we have previously come here over lunch, which has lower prices. It was fun evening, and our group seemed very happy, with several toasts and homages to our family of friends, and the hospitality of Tio Pepe :-)
