I'm sorry but I was sadly very very underwhelmed and disappointed about this place because I wanted to love it. I got the Pescado Chipotle and the queso dip. They didn't specify that it wasn't a fried fish, I was expecting a mojarra frita...this fish was steamed and in the blandest "chipotle sauce" I've ever had, I literally thought they served it with sour cream or crema because it didn't have any seasonings. I couldn't eat it, there was no way to save it or umph it up at all. It was the equivalent of getting fish and chips but the batter being taken off and it being mushy and flavorless. Beans watery, rice was dry. Now for the queso dip, honestly not a fan, it was pretty basic and didn't knock my socks off. Service was another disappointment....i waited for a good hour and during that time barely got acknowledged, especially after I first came in. One of them was trying to talk to this woman who was Latina but she didn't speak Spanish, but ignored me when I was answering in Spanish and tried to order in Spanish. Located right on Coal Creek Parkway, share the same plaza as QFC. Plenty of parking spaces. Their foods were overall ok, typical menu items. The portion was good for the price. So this is where everyone in Newcastle dines at on a Friday night? My friend and I were trying to find a place around the Newcastle area for dinner, and after looking over the menu, we hopped into the car and drove over. On a Friday night this place was biz-zay! They had outdoor seating out front with heat lamps, yet all of those tables were taken. However, for the two of us, we were able to be seated immediately in one of their booths inside. We started with margs, because, margs. My friend had a cadillac margarita while I had a skinny margarita, and we both upgraded to the large size for two extra bucks. Worth it. I liked my skinny margarita, especially since it didn't taste like artificial sugar like with other "skinny" drinks. The food menu was large, so we had to look twice at what to order. Plus, they offer nightly specials. I ended up ordering the molcajete dish, which came with a mix of meats in a stone bowl, with a side of rice, beans, sour cream and guac and handmade tortillas. The molcajete was awesome! This was my first time having this dish, and it was delicious. I liked the different meats you get with this dish, as they were all sauced up from the sauteed onions and natural juices found throughout the bowl. Wrap some meat up in a housemade tortilla and top it off with some guac and you have yourself a delicious dinner. The portion was huge, so I ended up eating half and having the rest for next day's lunch. For all carnivores, I recommend trying the molcajete! I don't often dine out in Newcastle, but am glad to have found some solid Mexican food, which is something we're severely lacking around town. Food was awesome and the staff members were friendly. My friend recommended this place for lunch so I was very excited. It's next to QFC so the parking was complimentary. The service was friendly and upbeat. They served the chips and salsa on the house when we got sat. We ordered the appetizer, Taquitos, Carne Asada, Pollo Al Carbon, Horchata and Tres Leches Cake. Ever dish was delicious and we got refilled for the Horchata too. They had house made tortillas and churros at night. Yeah, you really can't beat their family meal price! Two burritos, two chimichangas, rice, beans, lettuce & sour cream and bag of chips and salsa for $28! The large size salsa itself is $12! Always a family favorite and solid meal all around! Unfortunately if you wanted to order chimichanga's you can't order it online since it doesn't give you that option so you do have to call it in (I know, first world problems). I've been back twice since I took these photos. The food was not good. They had one server and seemed short staffed. I ordered the steak fajitas and the chicken sopitos. The fajitas were made with all onions. I counted 3 small slivers of red bell pepper. They also come with a condiment plate with no cheese; most restaurants don't skimp on the fajitas. The chicken sopitos were so soggy that I couldn't get them off the plate for for my neighbors dog. The sopitos were a soggy mess. $80 lesson learned. I won't be going back. A great casual, neighborhood Mexican restaurant in Newcastle. I've had several meals here during my visits to Seattle so it's finally time I write a review. The food is consistently good and the staff always welcoming. On my last visit with fiends, I order the chicken fajita and a margarita. Everything was served fresh and sizzling hot. We moved out of the area during the pandemic, so we were excited to be able to have lunch here on a recent visit back. While we found some of the interior changes somewhat bizarre, the food was still really good. We especially enjoyed their pollo a la parilla and their guacamole, as all of the ingredients were fresh and well prepared. Tonight we tried the Newcastle location, we called in an order tonight (Friday) right around 6pm, and the food was ready at 7:20pm. You stand outside and an employee will come out and call your name. Just an fyi, the people who ordered online seemed to be waiting an extra 30 mins after the website said the food would be ready. My husband and I have lived in Newcastle for 15+ years and have been a regular patron of Tapatio. The food is consistently good. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they were fast to transition to families style takeout orders and outside dining dining. With the end the restrictions on businesses, we are back to the excellent indoor dining experience that we have come to love. One of favorite is their Carne Asada. The meat is flavorful and tender, paired with refried beans and Mexican rice. The portion is adequate to split unless my husband is having a 'hungry day'. The menu includes gluten-free items and the chef is conscientious about food allergies upon request which has been helpful when planning group outings. read more

As time goes on things change. This was a good restaurant for years early on. Currently it leaves something to be desired. The service good but the food lacks flavor. The Chili Colorado lack any resemblance of flavors of cumin, chili powder and cilantro with a very liquid sauce. I don't believe the beef had any time cooking in that weak sauce. The beans again lack flavor. Traditionally cooked with some fat ( usually lard) again lacking a richness. My wife's dish resembled the same issues. Mexican cuisine does not necessarily mean hot. I had high hopes for Tapatio Mexican Grill, but I was let down by the terrible service we received. The food was amazing and flavorful, but our waiter, Mario ruined our whole dining experience. He was the worst waiter I've ever had. He barely acknowledged us when we arrived and took forever to take our orders. He never checked on us. He told us ahead of time that he wants to go home soon. Every time we asked for something, like an extra empty bowl for our little one, he behaved as if we are asking for a huge favor. He somehow wanted us to be gone quickly. When we asked if they have any dessert, he flatly refused while other customers were being served the dessert. I just went to the counter and ordered the dessert there. We got the dessert in a to-go container. We were fine to eat the dessert from that to-go box, but we were missing spoon. We requested him to give us spoons so that we can finish the dessert. He did not come back for a long time. At last we gave up and went to the counter and paid for our food and left the restaurant. He was so rude and unprofessional. It was obvious that he didn't care about his job or his customers. It was a waste of time and money to eat here. I don't think I'll be coming back here anytime soon. read more

I should've read the reviews before I attempted this joint. Again the waiter was none existent, I asked for extra napkins and before I could even get my words out he cut me off. He never asked how the food was ...... I think it's because he knows how terrible it is, and over priced. I would've rather spent my money at Taco Bell and given the extra food to the homeless. Edit: Something may have happened to their kitchen staff or owners are asking them to cut corners. We order from this place all the time and the food we ordered was really disappointing. $60+ for food that was barely seasoned, onions and peppers were hardly cooked and cut so thick they were still slightly crunchy. The spanish rice had no flavor in it at all, this time they put in frozen veggie mix in it? The chicken inside tasted old and I could have sworn it was on the cusp of spoiling. I also ordered the flan again and I was sent flans that weren't consistent at all. One is clearly half the size of the other. My problem is that I'm OK with making changes to a menu based upon missing ingredients and time. But you need to let the customer know and charge it accordingly. Don't send sub par food out the window. We have ordered food a handful of times during the lock down. These guys really make my day putting cute notes on all our take-out to please spread awareness about supporting small businesses. I've visited this place many times and first time writing a review. I usually order my go to chicken burrito plate that is always delicious. This time I ordered the molcajete because it looked yummy at the table next to us. This dish came in a stone bowl (mortar) with corn and flour tortilla which is made in house. Horrible experience! If I could give it 0 stars I would! They seated us and we waited for 20 minutes, the waiter's & waitress's kept walking by us & ignored us. They were only helping the white customers & didn't treat us good. So, when I saw someone walking by I told him no one never came to get our order, then he said he will go find a waiter or waitress to come assist us. 5 minutes passed & a waitress comes to get our drink order, she was one of the same waitress's that kept walking by fast & ignored us. 5 minutes later she comes back with our margaritas and it was disgusting, there was no alcohol in them & it taste like soap lemon and water, there was no tequila in it at all. The food finally came and it was dry and horrible. It was food that was probably cooked the previous day and they heated up and gave it to us. I will never go back over there again. The restaurant looks old and run down. They only cater to white and Spanish people & treated us horrible. I will never go back to that nasty restaurant again. For a strip mall Family Mexican place, this one is awesome. Extremely good salsa along with great lunch combinations. Always a litmus test for me for my first time at a Mexican restaurant is how unique their salsa is, but even more so, how their burritos taste and what all the selections are for burritos as far as style, meats, and sauces. I got carne asada burrito with red sauce which was phenomenal. I'd love to give 5 stars but there just wasn't anything too amazing that would get them over that threshold, however I will come back to frequent this awesome lunch spot. read more

For a former Texan, this place is home. The food (chicken flautas with rice and refried beans) was awesome. As usual I ordered the toreado peppers for some heat and they didn't disappoint. They actually have "blended" margaritas that actually come out of a frozen margarita machine (oh.my.god). The wait staff was efficient and friendly. They checked on me many times during my visit.
