Party planning is always stressful but this was exceptionally stressful since this was the first in-person party since the start of the pandemic, this also being his 5th birthday and hurricane Hilary!!! But it doesn't get any easier than Craft Bar! Booking on-line was easy. Discussing details super easy with Talia. Visited the site and was in love! On the day of the party, we arrived a little early to set up and the crafting tables were all set up for the kids to do their craft project. There was a side table with a customized printed coloring sheet (thank you for that Craft Bar, what a great surprise!). In the back was a separate table with a blank skateboard where the guests put their hand prints as our take home memory of the party (last minute detail with the help of Talia). The side room that is fun and festive, was ready for us to set up the cake, food and party favors. The team at Craft Bar were all great. They were so sweet and guided each child throughout their craft project. Each guest left with a decorated craft project and I was so impressed with how creative everyone was. The kids especially loved the bar with all the embellishments that they could pick 4 items. There is a separate area where the birthday boy could pick one. This was 2 hours of fun and I completely forget there was a downgraded hurricane happening!!!

They do have some optional music and art classes you can pay for, but the drop-in play, story time, and community vibe are all free. It's filled with toys, books, and a big "treehouse" with a slide that the kids love. The staff and volunteers are always so kind and welcoming. Some days can get a little crowded, but other days it's super mellow. They switch things up with different activities for the kids and also offer a ton of helpful resources for parents. I personally like the Canoga Park location more than the Tarzana one. It feels a little more intimate and homey. They're open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 to 12, closed for lunch from 12 to 1, and then open again from 1 to 4. They usually do story time around 11 which has become a favorite part of our visits. I've met so many amazing moms here and even met our incredible nanny through this space. It's a special place to watch your little one develop and build social skills while being part of a warm and supportive community.

My biggest concern was the extremely loud music. It was so loud that it gave me a headache, and people could barely hear each other. As a parent, that made me uncomfortable because if my child called for help, I honestly wouldn't have been able to hear her. The restroom also wasn't very child-friendly. There was no step stool for children to reach the sink and wash their hands, and the water was extremely hot. In a place designed for young children, the water temperature should be safe to help prevent burns. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously and makes improvements, because safety and comfort should come first in a children's play facility.

My older son loved it so much that he is now becoming a Junior Leader, which says everything about how meaningful Cali Camp has been for him. My younger son, who is in 2nd grade, went for the first time last year and is already so excited to go back. What really stood out to me was how quickly they both adapted. My younger son joined not knowing anyone and felt welcomed almost immediately. Both of my boys felt included from day one. The staff is incredibly caring, supportive, and attentive. You can truly feel that they work hard to create a safe, joyful environment for the kids, and as a parent that means everything. The activities are fantastic: well planned, age appropriate, engaging, and fun. The natural setting is also beautiful and feels especially important these days. My boys came home with confidence, stories, friendships, and summer memories they will cherish forever. And the camp spirit is real. We still sing the silly songs at home, especially the announcements song whenever we have a family announcement, and the birthday song too. I cannot recommend Cali Camp enough. It has been such a special part of our family's life.

Critters Squad Wildlife Defenders only has birds, bunnies, guinea pigs, porcupines, snakes and other fun, cute, furry little animals/reptiles that won't harm you.... Just make sure to follow the directions of your assigned wildlife team member. For us, our first and only encounter with CSWD was at a recent birthday party that we attended for one of our daughter's fellow classmates. Like most kids birthday parties, all the usual suspects were on site. A bounce house, a birthday cake, snacks for the kids, a table for all the gifts and of course those wild and crazy kids running around having fun. But this party had some had special guests. Some scaly, some a bit pokey, a few that were soft to the touch and others that had 8 eyes and 8 legs! So as everyone arrived to the party and got acclimated, the host of the party got everyone's attention and had us all set up on the grass for the "special surprise." Kelvin from Critter Squad enters that chat. Yeah, Kelvin was super cool and was very knowledgeable about all of the critters and reptiles he brought out to show. He was great with the kids and parents in attendance and everyone who wanted to participate to touch, hold or get a closer look of the different animals, were all welcomed. At the party we attended, the package included a few different Snakes, a Tarantula, a Porcupine, a bird and a few other critters that were all definitely the stars of the party. Although it was not my party, I witnessed what a great addition this could be for a kids birthday party, especially if they love animals or you want to do something unique. I want to also mention booking required multiple emails, voicemails etc but eventually we were booked to have a one hour petting zoo for my twins 5th birthday. When booking and speaking to someone on the phone to confirm details I was told I needed a shaded area for the pets bc of the heat which I then mentioned I gave a shaded area in my backyard covered by a gazebo. No other questions were asked regarding if the area has grass or pavement . During the event the animals pooped all over the fenced off area which was on concrete . The person who was in charge did not bring a tarp or offer a tarp and my concrete was covered in animal feces . After it was done I asked if he would clean the area before he leaves and he said usually events are on grass and we don't do that . I see you have a hose over there and I have to go and pack up the animals and leave. I was mortified at this and I emailed to share my experience but unfortunately was met with loads of deflection . " you need to suggest it or let us know since most petting zoos are on grass ." when asked about tarps. I think it should be the responsibility of the vendor to confirm the details . It would have been appropriate to ask me when confirming a shaded area for the pets. Otherwise I would assume that as professionals they come prepared for any setting . A tarp was not brought nor offered . When I mentioned in the email that I had a convo with the staff about clean up I was hit back with " he did not hear you say that " . Very unprofessional.

The 20 kids that attended were so happy to spend time with the petting animals. Tiffany was punctual, helpful, fun, and thoughtful. She made sure we got great photos, everyone was safe, and cleaned up as if it never took place. I would highly recommend and will absolutely use again! My niece had a magical birthday!
