    Star attraction: dirt pile!!!

We had our daughters' 7 year old birthday party here and it was so much fun! The kids got to ride a beautiful, sweet horse, meet the resident goats, chickens and bunnies and best of all, play in a huge dirt pile!!! There was a perfect spot under a tree with tables/chairs provided. Everyone was really wonderful and kind and our guests had a great time enjoying a slice of country in the city.

    With Khan, the stallion.

I love this ranch. The atmosphere is so quiet and serene. The horses are great and the owner is very nice and helpful. It's just a great ranch to visit.

We finally made it over to The Ranch, and we left impressed!!…read more First of all, be sure to have a chunk of cash saved and ready to go, because it is definitely pricey. We were not planning on getting cocktails but they ended up sounding so good. I got the Rhubarb Rendezvous and Steven got - I think it was called Now You See Me. Both delicious. We then opted for apps. Steven had the wedge salad and I got the corn and roasted peppers bisque. Absolutely delicious. Unfortunately my soup was on their main rotating menu that I was told changes every two to three weeks. Now you see me, now you don't I guess? The main menu changes also, but less frequently. I was very tempted to try the lamb on the short farm menu, but since I hadn't seen it on their site, I went in planning to get halibut, and I did. It was also delicious but I'm sure the lamb would have been too. Steven got the filet and what do you know? A restaurant that cooked it the way he wanted the first time. We followed our meal with their Milky Way dessert which was unique and their take on a milky way bar, and delicious. Zero complaints about our food and drinks. Service was top notch!! We were checked on constantly, our waters never made it to even half empty, and there was constant staff helping take the plates and bringing the food as well. Great experience!

The service was warm and professional. The waitstaff and hostess were welcoming. The space itself was dark, but fits the bill for a steakhouse Since it is an "upscale" restaurant, I will be holding the food to a higher standard. I don't often dine at steakhouses, but my frame of reference was my other event steakhouse experience at Carver Steak in Las Vegas... which I thought was just fantastic Now onto the food: Free bread. We arrived at 5 (early). I dunno what time the bread was baked.. but was pretty dry on the outside, like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite some time. Was fine. But not craveable. A few pieces were pretty inedible Appetizers: ahi tuna tar tar and scallops The tuna tar tar was a flashback to 1980s tuna towers. It really didn't have much flavor at all, but looked nice. Instead of the typical avocado , it was served with a pea puree underneath that turned an unappetizing color as it mixed with the tuna. I added some salt in hopes of it tasting like something .. but it didn't help it much The scallops were actually really nice. They didn't get much of a sear in the cook, but tasted great. I'd say they were the highlight of the dinner The wedge salad was next. The toppings were all top notch. The dressing, bacon, cheese , onions. All great. Sadly.. the lettuce seemed past its prime. It was chewy like cabbage .. my dining partner commented on this as well.. and was brown and bitter in the.middle. Still, there was enough dressing to mask it. Next we split the ny strip (regular menu) with a side of cauliflower au gratin (seasonal menu) I'm glad we decided to split a regular steak vs the larger ones. It was plenty for two. The steak was ordered medium rare, and arrived closer to medium. It was seasoned well and had some nice grill marks. By its texture, I am assuming it was initially cooked sous vide, and finished on the grill. I would rather just have it cooked on the grill as I feel the flavor and texture comes out better. The steak itself ate a bit tough, but not horribly so. The cauliflower I wouldn't recommend. It appeared to be parboiled in aromatics first and finished in the oven. There were still whole peppercorns and cloves on the cauliflower so be aware not to eat those. The dish ate very dry. I was expecting a cheesy creamy cauliflower.. instead got a dry whole roasted cauliflower with dry cheese and breadcrumbs on top. We only ate 1/4 of this and my partner took the rest home along with half of half of his steak to be polite On a side note. They don't take Apple Pay. So be aware of that. So it comes down.. would we return to The Ranch? Nope. Don't see it happening. For the price point, I think we should get better overall food.

Right from…read morethe start, we were welcomed by a friendly security guard at the entrance, which set the tone. Ladies, just a heads up, they do check your purses before entry, and there's a $10 cover per person. I highly recommend getting a table if you can. There's a minimum spend. For us, it was $125 for food and drinks, but it's worth it to have a spot to sit, relax, and actually enjoy the band and the view of the dance floor without hovering around. The live band was so much fun. Everyone was out there line dancing to both country and pop songs, and the energy was contagious. Even if you don't know the dances, it's still a blast to watch and soak in the positive high energy crowd. Next time, I'm definitely coming earlier to learn a few moves and fully join in. They have two food menus plus a drink menu. Food wise, it was decent. I ordered the ranch steak burger (cooked medium) with fries, and it was a good solid choice. The warm campfire chocolate cookie with vanilla ice cream was a nice sweet treat to end the night. Service is where this place really shines. From the security to the staff to even the guests, everyone was incredibly welcoming. You can tell there are a lot of regulars, and it creates this friendly, almost community like atmosphere. Our waitress (I didn't catch her name) was amazing. She was super attentive, constantly checking in, clearing the table, chatting with us, and just giving off the warmest energy while still being quick and efficient. Overall, the people truly make this place. Great music, fun crowd, and an all around good time. Already looking forward to coming back. Next time with better planning and maybe a few line dance moves ready

Best part is that you can request songs, so if you only know 5 songs so far like me, come early to write them on the list so that you're not just sitting on the sideline all night. The bar & food are pretty darn good. Solid nachos and french fries def good munchies while you're drinking and waiting for your next song! We reserved a table for a birthday on a Saturday, had to spend at least $350 for the booth. The food food was really good though, my favorites were the scallops. Cocktails and shots were served throughout the night, plus the booth had prime seating watching the dance floor. Overall a great place to celebrate!

With nothing scheduled for the afternoon, we came across Sunset Ranch Hollywood and booked their evening 2-hour trail ride. It turned out to be the perfect way to start our trip. We ended up being the only two on the ride, which made the experience even more special. Our guide, Ashley, was knowledgeable, personable, and easy to talk to. The conversation throughout the ride made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal. The views were incredible--overlooking the Hollywood Hills, the Hollywood sign, the observatory, and even out toward Glendale. It's a perspective you just don't get any other way. We rode Apollo and Rain, and both horses were fantastic. They were calm, well-trained, and clearly knew the trail, which made the ride easy and enjoyable--even for riders who don't have a lot of experience. With just a few small corrections along the way, we felt more confident than we probably deserved. I'm sure a group ride would be fun, but having such a small, personal experience really made this memorable for us. It was a great way to kick off a special weekend, and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

They required us to get there 30 minutes before the tour. We got there at 9:30am, but the tour did not start until 10:30am. We waited for an hour before we can get on the back of the horse. This place is pretty private. We will have to make a call at the gate, so the staff can buzz us in. Parking structure is small, and it gets full fast. Staff was not too friendly unsure if they get burnt out with the tour. The horses looked tired and some of them look sick. My horse kept its head down throughout the ride. The one hour ride is basically sitting on the back of the horse, walking up the trail that we can see the Hollywood sign, and turned around at some point. Not worth the price you pay for. I will not be back.

Plenty of parking since this is located in such a huge plaza, so huge in fact that I would rather opt to park here than many of the other plazas within walking distance. So huge that I saw a dude practice basketball here at night without a basketball hoop in sight. Iconic and I hope he's balling out there, wherever he may be. There's security at the front and a good number of cashiers open so despite how crowded it is (at least on a Thursday mid morning), I was checked out quite efficiently. Like many other 99 Ranch, there's a bakery, hot foods area, seafood, butcher, and much more. It's not the cleanest, as I did see some wilted, not the freshest produce and some flies here and there (as well as some of the baked goods looking mushed into bags), but not outwardly awful. The variety isn't as good as I thought it would be, at least in comparison to my home 99 Ranch, but I was able to at least find some giftable chili oil. Not bad for a quick stop, but definitely do some price comparisons since there's lots of Asian markets nearby.

They procure many top-notch ingredients, and most of the preparation is simple so the food can speak for itself. My favorites from that night include the Mussels Croquetas which had beautiful bits of shellfish and a cream sauce that was to die for. They also made the first Paella I've ever liked, and their Lamb is the most delicious I've ever tasted. There is a dessert that I hope they never stop serving. The Kougin Amman ice cream sandwich is a genius pairing, especially because they just might make the best pastry in the world. You might not realize how huge and dangerous some of these birds really are, but they average about 9 feet to 12 feet tall and from 250 to 350 pounds. And, they can be quite deadly. During the mating season, the males will instantly try to attack you if you get close. They've got about 6 to 10 different ostriches in separate fenced off areas. If you pay a few dollars for a tour, they will walk you down and show you the different ostriches they have, as well as provide some pretty interesting ostrich facts. Their feet are crazy as they are the only two toed bird on earth. Looking at them it is easy to see how they are related to dinosaurs because it looks just like a dinosaur foot. You can also buy ostrich eggs if they have them available, which are equal to about 24 to 36 eggs. The flavor and consistency is actually pretty good as well and very similar to chicken eggs. They also sell honey and a bunch of other things. Also, in certain times of year, you can go and see the baby ostrich chicks that they raise.
