They're service is okay I'm a regular here since its closer to me but if I can drive far and waste gas I would go to the one in otay or Claremont.. My favorite place for thai tea. Their Thai tea snow bubble is so good. I also love their hazelnut snow bubble. Their teas are great, green apple green tea is on point. They have delicious sweet potato fries and cream cheese crab wontons. No dripping sauce needed. You have to kind of choose the right time to go because they can get reaaaaally busy at random points throughout the day. I honestly have the best luck around 12 then around 5. They get packed, but the employees are always friendly and despite the long lines the drinks and food still won't take more than 10 minutes to get out to you. The drinks are great though, with or without boba and my favorite part is that most of them are less than four bucks. I always compare this place to tea station across the street. Tea station is pricier but the only reason I'd go there over tapex is because you can control the amount of sugar. read more

Of all the Tapioca Express locations I've been to, this one disappointed me. The first time I ordered a drink here for some reason my boba tasted like it was drenched in soap. Boba probably doesn't have a flavor and if it does, very subtle. But yeah it was chewy but the after-taste resembled soap. I'm kind of shocked at their policy of 15% of another drink in case you weren't satisfied with your first one. This was the closest one to SDSU and within driving distance. The one in Convoy was out of my way. I'd have to get boba after class when i drive down south to the one in National City. read more

Our family of four comes to this location at least once a week and more so during the summer. Let me tell you, not once have they messed up our orders. We always order our favorites, taro, cookies and cream, chocolate snow bubble and green tea. Sometimes we would get the lunch specials with the tofu, veggies and rice. They always get our order right every single time. The flavour is always the same. The ice consistency or the snow bubble consistency is perfect. The place is tiny so when they are busy, there is somewhat of a line sometimes, but they are always super fast when serving customers. Their customer service is very professional. I enjoy going to Tapioca Express when im craving boba. I usually get thai tea with boba or honeydew snow bubble with boba but sometimes the honeydew drink just turns out really sweet (feels like im going to get diabetes) Im in love with their crispy chicken and fried tofu, i mostly get 'medium' on the spice level. 90% of the time i go to tapioca at night and the staff is super friendly. The other 10% is when i go during the day time and it's just not as great compared to the people making the drinks/food at night time. Just my opinion. read more

This location is pretty close to me but sucks all around compared to the other ones. I'd rather drive a little further to the Plaza blvd or Convoy locations. The drinks are either watered down or too milky. The only drinks they seem to be on top of are the green and black iced teas. The crispy chicken seems to be mostly the fried batter or fried chicken skin/fat with very few pieces of actual chicken. The Cream cheese wontons at this location contain cream cheese, very little crab and cheddar cheese?? The staff are ok. This tap ex is really small too. Hmm, they do serve a good amount of food in the snacks and combos. :) I highly recommend the Convoy location. It's worth the drive. They have a lot more to choose from, the building is much larger, and if you're dining in they have board games you can play with. read more

This place was amazing I have been looking all around for boboa smoothies and they hit the spot . I ordered a Pina colada smoothie with boboa and it was very enjoying . One thing I did not like was they took a little long I guess one of the customer their took my drink and they apologized and remade my drink while waiting 20minutes . tapex was never really an amazing boba spot to begin with but i give this location 4 stars because it gets the job done. wide menu per usual, with your normal drinks and snacks. the service is really good here. the cashiers never fail to repeat your order to you and they always remind you to double check the screen to avoid a wrong order. i've never had a problem with my drinks or food. it gets busy and crowded every now and then but the wait time is never ridiculously long. read more

Aloha! So it was my first time here tonight and brah I was very disappointed! I was scanning the menu for something really good and looking at some of the treats next to the blenders and I noticed a jar of OREOS. I was like, " hell yeah, they got Oreo Boba". So as I looked upon the menu looking for any flavor that said cookie or Oreo. I saw a recipe that said "Vanilla Cookie" so I ordered that, Large with Boba. I was so excited waiting patiently for my creamy treat. SAM, the cashier that took my order called my name, "Large Vanilla Cookie Boba". I took my drink and noticed that it was white instead of brownish from the Oreo cookie. I took a sip and noticed no hint of Oreo flavor. It just tasted like watered down milk and extra, extra ice. In my head I was like, " where is the cookie taste". I asked one of the employees who made my drink, "hey doesn't the vanilla cookie come with Oreo?" He responded, " No that drink is called Cookies N Creme and it's not on our menu board. I was confused, you have oreos in clear sight and a drink called Vanilla Cookie on the board and tell me Cookies N Creme is off the "Secret Menu"? So I waited in line for SAM and told her my dilemma. Sorry, unfortunately I thought the Vanilla Cookie flavor was going to be a Vanilla Oreo flavored Boba. I don't like the taste of this drink, could you guys please remake me a Cookies N Creme Boba? The employee SAM said the best she could do is give me 50% off if I purchase the Cookies N Creme Boba. I was like SERIOUSLY! I love the drinks here, but I really wish they would stop insisting that their creamer is non-dairy everytime I try to order coconut milk in my drink. When I finally asked what their non-dairy creamer is made of, they said cow's milk. It does have lactase added meaning you could drink it if you are lactose intolerant. However, if you are vegan, you would not want to drink it. Saying it is non-dairy when it contains cows milk is very misleading. read more

This place is hit or miss. Sometimes it's great sometime it sucks!!! I think it really depends on who is working. One time I had really crappy crispy chicken. It was dry and tough. I thought to myself okay maybe it was just a bad day. I came back a couple of weeks later and it was good again. I crave boba all the freakin time and I usually visit this Tapioca Express location. The service has always been great but the joint is kind of small and sometimes there's nowhere to sit. I was surprised to read such negative reviews about this place. Even a couple of my friends complained about this place but I completely disagree with those that are not satisfied with this Tapioca Express. I actually like this Tapioca Express. I thought the drinks are good and the boba was soft and yummy (: and for those that possibly think this place is "too Americanized" I would think you're crazy because it just looks like a boba place to me. Maybe its because the staff is very diverse but diversity is a good thing right? Yes, the wait might be long but hey the people that work here are new and are still learning. I don't mind waiting because regardless of which Tapioca Express I go to I have to wait. Hopefully the wait would improve as time goes on, other than that I believe the wait is long due to the lack of knowledge of recipes but that can be improved. The only problem I had about this place was probably one of the drinks I got. I tried the Jasmine Milk Tea and it really tasted like perfume. The scent of this milk tea was very strong and when you drink it, it seems like you're drinking some perfume with it. This place was horrible. My friends and I came here because we didnt have time to go to the Tapex on convoy. We came in and took our time figuring out what to order. There were no other customers besides us so I thought it would be alright if we took about 3 minutes to finally give an order. As we were deciding, the girls working there were frustrated and made sure we saw how frustrated they were. They were giggling and whispering things to each other while looking at us then turning away. Horrible customer service! We ordered one mild crispy chicken and one extra spicy but BOTH came out really spicy and my friend ( who ordered the mild) couldnt stand the spiciness and couldnt finish it. What a waste of money and awful customer service. I would NEVER come here again. The girl at the front was so unfriendly and not customer satisfaction orientated!! I went in at about 10:20pm. I got 2 spicy chicken snacks and then I was going to order My drink but they were out of watermelon flavor. So then I made up my mind about another one with baby boba and surprise, surprise, they were out of that too. So then I told her to just take the guys order who was behind me and I then walked outside to tell my friend that they were out of baby boba. We were trying to make up our mind in the car about what we wanted instead and debating whether we should go back inside or elsewhere. So I made up my mind, went back in and tried to order my chicken again. "NO MORE CHICKEN THE KITCHEN CLOSES AT 10:30" said the girl. I then looked at the time, 10:34!!!! I told her I was just in there and had ordered chicken but because they were out of the drink I wanted I had to go outside. She just smirked and said "oh well its past 10:30" and pointed to the sign. But you know when you can tell someone is getting joy out of telling you no?? That's what I felt hahaha. She just kept smiling like a little brat. I appreciated the quick service from the two ladies on shift around 5:30 pm tonight, but it was lacking in customer service. There was no greeting or smile. When it came to my order, we ordered two milk tea drinks. My order got messed up and I hate to cause an issue so my friend said "hey I think there was some confusion but she ordered taro milk tea" and the asian girl goes "well you should have checked the screen because that's what the ticket said." Honestly a bunch of things could have gone wrong, but the attitude off this employee was unnecessary. Overall, disappointed. read more

I usually try to make a TapEx run everytime I go down to SD and now I know to never return to this location. There were three baristas that night and all had some attitude. None of them looked very happy to be there, especially the two young ladies. As they would call customers whose orders were ready they would call their names with attitude and would raise their voice with annoyance and they would even roll their eyes. Unfortunately my drink spilled and was told "there's a trash can behind you" in a rude tone. I waited for awhile to see if they would remake my drink and unfortunately they didn't remake it until they were asked. Maybe it's policy? Either way save yourself the annoyance of bad service and stay away or atleast go to the Convoy location. read more

Sorry in advance if I'm "counter-arguing anyone", someone "politely" made note of it. I'm just pointing out how this place isn't that bad. Okay my friends and I passed by this place a couple of times hoping it was open, it wasn't. But just recently we decided to have a go with it because they said they'll open 2 weeks from the last time we passed by. And yeah the place is quite small. It's more of like a togo place in my opinion. But most of the stores around the area are also quite small so I don't mind it's not like I want to sit there and lounge, main purpose is BOBA(: So they don't have everything their other location has, GET OVER IT, I noticed it too but not a big deal. I'm sure they'll add the rest in no time. They just opened cut them some slack you know?. And okay, they're a tad bit slow. But seriously let me see you get behind the counter and prepare a drink. I would understand if that location has been opened for awhile and people complain about how slow we actually get the order. But that is definitely not the case. The place just opened, and they have new workers. It's the same with any place, they need to learn. Honestly I didn't have a problem when my group of 4 came here and got some drinks. They were slow but not even THAT slow, honestly Convoy takes even longer sometimes I wait for like 10 minutes or maybe 15. At least they were more nicer than the workers in Convoy, I might add. (I go to the one in Convoy all the time) Seriously what do people expect? Boba made out of gold? Yeah not likely. I thought the drinks here were fine. I don't see the fuss about how it's not good. It tastes the same, maybe even a little bit better in my honest opinion. Things we ordered: Peach Snow Bubble w/ babyboba. Strawberry Snow Bubble w/ lychee jelly Honey dew w/ lychee jelly And I can't remember what my other friend got. All our drink came out great. Well blended and tasted fine. The lychee tasted like any other lychee at boba places. And the baby boba was nice and soft. It was fine. This Tapioca Express sucks. I hate giving one star reviews, but this place definitely warranted it. I've come here four times thinking that the time after the last might've been better. Nope. Just as bad. On my most recent visit, I waited a good 7 minutes before the gal took my order. Not because it was busy. Because the THREE gals working were just dicking around in the back, giggling at who knows what. There were two other customers behind me who were looking just as irritated. I tried getting their attention several times, and just as I was about leave, one gal decides to come out and take my order. I just wanted my honey green tea with no boba... It takes them 10 minutes to get me my honey green tea WITH boba. Wait...what? I thought I ordered no boba? So I return my drink and then I received the correct order plus a side order of rolled eyes.
