We stopped in on a warm July evening because the menu on the street looked pretty good and we were hungry. After climbing the stairs we were surprised to see that the place has no A/C. We persevered and seated ourselves. A staff member came over, brought us menus and then announced that they didn't have any food. You heard that right: a restaurant with no food. That explained the three tables of hipsters swilling overpriced cocktails. With all the good places on front street, save yourself some frustration (and sweat) and just go elsewhere. read more

Eating at this place inspired me to create a yelp account. I brought my parents here first a weekend getaway trip after my wife and had a great experience here a few years ago. We had the worst customer service we've had in many years. The waitress was rude from the time we sat down til we left. We asked for Ice waters she pointed to the water dispenser with small cups near the entrance and told us we could get our own water. We placed our order, and the food was decent, but never once did she check on us. She never asked how our food was, she only came by after we were done eating and have us our bills. She never said thank you, no "have a nice day", nothing. The icing on the cake was watching her bring other tables Ice waters as she watched us repeatedly go up to get small cups of water and never offered us water. Our waitress was inattentive and we couldn't catch her eye to get her to the table; seems they were grossly understaffed the day we were there (and a game was on, so it was packed). They had limited vegetarian choices the day we were there (with a vegetarian in tow), and we were only informed of some items being out/unavailable when we tried to order them, not when we were first given the menus. Today was very busy and it seemed they were low staff which is understandable. When one of our drinks was incorrect, our male server who had a nose piercing and Hawaiian shirt was giving us attitude because we got a drink that wasn't ours and was given to our friend who's pregnant and could not drink. Then my friend got a drink that was vodka with lemonade but when it was served it was incorrect and she told the other very nice server that the drink was wrong. Our male server met up with her and she told him what happened, he got attitude again when he walked off with her. Will never return. Though the fries here were great. We came here on date night just for drinks. The bartender was incredibly sweet and kind. The drinks were really good. I did try a winter special drink and did not like it, but that is no fault of the drink as it was more like I don't like bourbon. This place was a great place to share drinks with friends on a beautiful, northern Michigan summer afternoon. The servers were attentive and helpful. The drinks were great and the selection was plentiful. We didn't have any food, but everyone in our group had a couple different drinks and the server never made us feel like we were staying too long or a bother. The screened in upstairs deck gives you the best of all worlds. Fresh air, protection from the sun or rain, and no bugs all while still feeling like your outside, because you kind of are. The trek up the steps isn't awful - there is probably an elevator somewhere. Fun, casual vibe, great music at a level you can still enjoy conversation, a gem of the city. read more

We came here for a quick drink before dinner last night with my in laws and 2 year old. The place is beautifully remodeled and offers great cocktails. We sat at the small table by the kitchen and let my toddler hang out away from everyone else so we didn't disturb. Service was top notch and drinks were perfect! My little one started to explore other areas of the restaurant and I was having a hard time keeping her seated. A guy who I believe to be the manager brought out a beach ball for her and she happily played with it while we finished our drinks and paid. He truly went above and beyond to make sure we were all happy, such a thoughtful gesture. Thank you! read more

This bar recently opened up on the rooftop of Brasserie Amie. Well decorated, open air, and has a beautiful view of front street. Overpriced drinks, but taste okay. They don't have a website or their menu posted anywhere online so I wasn't sure what to expect going in. Seat yourself, waitstaff service, and a small food menu. I don't know if the kitchen is independent or shared by Brasserie Amie, but my sandwich was good. read more

Our waitress was missing after the first drink order. She dropped the drinks and disappeared. After about 20 minutes of waiting to order a second round, we had to track down another server to ask if ours was still around. She was not. We tried to order food. Apparently the kitchen had closed even though there were food menus on every table and no info about that possibility shared with us when we first ordered drinks. Overall, if you are more chill than I am when I'm hangry, you'll probably be okay with this place. It's fine. read more

Great local rooftop bar with good drink selections. There is not a lot of seating so be prepared to sit at the bar. Live music was awesome and everyone loved the guy playing! Our service was great and we had an awesome time grabbing some after dinner drinks. read more

Poor service , some disconnect between the kitchen and the wait staff. Many, many trips to try to clarify a fish order, wait there is only one, it might be big enough to share, so you can split it, oh sorry no that one was sent out... No salad dressing except for ranch , then when we asked if we could have some balsamic vinegar they weren't sure. the they came out with the balsamic vinegar and the server said there is something gong on in the kitchen today. One of our group asked for a new wine glass as she switched wines, server declined and said this is how we serve second glasses.? I want to emphasize that we were kind and not picky but it just went on and on and on. Kind of comical in the end. First and last visit to North Bar, not impressed! Drinks were made with half shots. Wine was the smallest pour I've ever seen. Service was poor! It was a half an hour between entering and sipping our first and only drink. You may have the view but for locals we need a little bit more! read more

I had the breakfast tostada and it was awesome! Our server Andrea was so fun! She ran so fast it seemed like our drinks arrived before we ordered them. So we went to this place, pretty nice., upstairs, busy... stood at the bar for about 5 minutes, only ones standing, ( my daughter and myself, so had old and young represented..) finally bartender turns around, mid twenties guy, bushy hair, growing a beard, as he's been talking to a female co worker I raise my hand to him as in "hey when you get a a chance...." he looks at me , waves sarcastically, and turns his back and starts shooting the shit with his gal pal again. I realize we're not going to get served , so just then a table empties, and we grab it. Waitress comes and cleans, and we ask if we can order .. she testily replies, "when I have time I'll take your order.." 15 minutes later she returns, perturbed, takes our drink order. 15 minutes later, ( we've now been here 35 minutes) comes back, spills drink on my wife. All the while Ahole # 1 behind bar about 10 feet away, could have served us a half hour before. Had 1 drink, left. The owners of this place should be troubled. Totally unmotivated, rude lazy employees. Almost seemed to be wanting to do bad by him or her. My advice stay away until they fix the attitudes. Oh and btw, if these people are there to make money, like I was in the bar/ restaurant biz? they're in the wrong trade. read more
