We called to see if they take reservations and they said they didn't but they had a waitlist that we could join. The online waitlist was down so we asked to be put on the waitlist over the phone. They said they didn't do that over the phone, which is totally ok. What wasn't ok is how the service was over the phone. She was pushy, very rude, was interrupting us and was actively trying to hang up on us. Over the phone service is just as important as in store service as this is often a customers first impression. We are visiting in town from Florida and we were looking for hard cider to have with lunch. That's how we found the taproot cider House. When you walk in the door, the restaurant is beautiful, and we were quickly seated for lunch. Our server was probably to the table and we ordered cider and water. My wife ordered a flight of three different kinds of cider, which were delicious. I ordered a single kind which had a pineapple flavor added to the cider and it was awesome I ordered the cider house burger, and my wife ordered the grilled cheese sandwich. While we were drinking our cider the owner, Jen stopped by and talked with us like we were old friends. She told us how the restaurant had burned several months earlier and that it had been completely redone in the dining room and they were open again . My burgers arrived and the grilled cheese. The burger had some kind of awesome heirloom tomato. That was kind of a purple tomato but really good. The burger was cooked perfectly and I truly enjoyed it. My wife had the grilled cheese and it had little pieces of apple in the cheese sandwich, and she said it was wonderful. When my family went here we got some pretty good service, they forgot the pickles on my burger at first but I asked for some and they gave me some. They didn't have French Fries which was kind of disappointing but all in all the food was so good tasting; the tater tots had a really good flavor, the burger patty tasted like it came off of a barbeque grill which was awesome. Every single dish was made so perfectly and the cider was so delicious. They were super accommodating for a bachelorette party and made us feel welcome. The smashed baby potatoes were the best part of all of our meals, 100% recommend those! We were all happy to see that a lot of the food was locally sourced, and there were plenty of options for vegans. This place was super fun to have dinner at on a summer evening! We were there 4th of July weekend, so of course things were busy, but the staff managed service very well and were very kind nevertheless. The decor in the restaurant is very cool - they really leaned into the "taproot" vibe. It was a beautiful day, but I enjoyed being able to sit inside and soak up the ambience. Their logo is super cool, too - whoever designed it deserves praise for that! Their ciders were great. I had the cherry ginger which was refreshing and had the perfect cherry notes for a summer in Traverse City. I also really want to highlight the salad I had there - I picked the avocado salad, and honestly I still think about that salad sometimes. I know, I know, it's just a salad. But the proportion of ingredients was perfect, lots of fresh avocado, good texture from the pepitas and peas, and their green goddess dressing is AWESOME. I would say out of all the places we ate on our visit to Traverse City, Taproot was my favorite. Taproot has a lot of vegan options that aren't just a salad. when I saw the vegan grilled cheese on the menu I knew I had to get it. We started off with drinks. I had a pear cocktail (I can't remember the name and it's not listed on their online menu). It was not overly sweet and the honey decorating the glass added a nice touch. The vegan grilled cheese had amazing flavor... not just bread and cheese but Smoked gouda, tomato aioli, power seeds, pickled jalapeno, kale, and red onion. This was one of the best grilled cheeses i've ever had. my mom got the house royal which was a shredded chicken sandwich. she said it needed more seasoning but was overall good. the tater tots you can upgrade too were extra salty but in a good way. Such an great way to start off our trip. An incredible atmosphere not far from the beach, this place offers farm-to-table food with a plethora of cider selections. We did a cider flight ($3 per flight choice) and enjoyed the seasonal selections along with the local ciders for a nice variety. Walking through dowtown we saw a multitude of nice food spots but Friday night when we came back to try them, they were all jammed with people. We passed by Taproot and told ourselves we were going to try their cider flights for sure after dinner. Well dinner plans yea, we should of done earlier reservations at the spot we wanted to go to, there was almost an hour long wait and it was getting close to closing time then so we thought we'd just pass eating at that spot and go eat at Taproot while we enjoy our ciders. Omg such a good thing we did. The Chilli Garlic Shrimp was soo flavorful and the bread pieces to accompany it to dip in the gravy was greattt. Then we split a Wild Mushroom Pizza, the crust, the sauce and toppings were phenomenal. It was one of the things we talked about we enjoyed in traverse city a lot. Not going to lie to we were surprised of the food but man oh man will we be back if we come to Traverse City. Forgot to say the cider flights are great and the staff all are absolutely amazing. I just happened to walk by this place and decided I would try it out- I'm so glad I did! If coming on a weekend, put your name in and then walk around cuz I waited for about 45 minutes. They have A TON of ciders on tap ranging from really dry to very sweet and fruity. The cook thing is you can have a flight of however many you want to try and there's no limit, each flight taster is $3. Every single cider I tried was delicious and my server, April, was super helpful with picking types of ciders that are most popular and some of her favorites. I would recommend trying some dryer ones and some sweeter for a variety. As for the food, I got a fish taco, al pastor taco, and the street corn. I currently live in San Diego so it's hard to top that mexican food so I would say the taco isn't the best I've ever had but it had some good flavors and the fish was cooked really well. The elote corn was smothered in cheese which is my fav so I can't complain!! Overall, worth the 45 min wait for friendly staff, damn good cider, and good food! read more

So, Im pregnant and being in TC was painful because of the amount of wineries, breweries and distilleries. HOWEVER, we happened upon Taproot- Who had a selection of Ciders for my husband, and Mocktails for me! The cider selection was HUGE- 18 varieties on tap. The frozen cider/cider slush was soooo tasty. And the smoked orchard with the smoky syrup and the Rosemary sprig was a great touch, I wasnt sure how to was going to taste, but i actually enjoyed it and found myself sucking on the rosemary sprig afterwards. The building it self is so cute, an industrial boho but not exaggerated kinda feel. Lots of natural light, and real plants around which i really enjoyed. The service was great, prompt, and efficient. Tables made of natural wood and tree slice, our table was a tree slice with petoskey stones in the middle. It was adorable, we felt comfortable and were able to hang out for a while. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch, post hike, with my pup. I ended up calling in to the hostess because I couldn't bring the pup in to get seated . My waitress was wonderful (friendly, knowledgeable, and nice to the pup). I got two tacos and chips + guacamole and a flight of cider. (Note: They double stack the tacos (for security) which is a bonus for me.) Al Pastor and fish taco - pastor taco was AMAZING. Flavorful, lots of meat, definitely get it. The fish taco was okay. There was a good bit of meat, but even with fresh lime juice squeezed on top, if you didn't get the sauce drizzled on top, it was kind of bland. Guacamole was pretty good, but didn't have a ton of flavor to it. Ciders: I tried the lavender, Madagascar vanilla (bourbon barrel aged), cinnamon girl, & Brut. I was so sad that they weren't selling howlers/growlers of the Madagascar. It was the best hard cider I've ever had (smooth, not too sweet & not too dry, the vanilla warms the throat)! I ended up taking the Lavender (drier, lavender flavor is present in both aroma and taste) with me (howler) instead. I almost did the cinnamon girl (smooth, cinnamony, sweeter). The Brut was good as well but was drier & more crisp than I usually go for - still very good. Overall - stop in, the cider's good, staff is friendly, and it's in a great location. Next time I'm in the area I'll have to try one of their pizzas. read more

Came to Taproot to grab lunch before our flight home. It was a great meal to end our vacation in Northern Michigan. The kids got three items from the kids menu and all were really good. The chicken sandwich, pizza and hotdog. The pizza sauce was really flavorful and the chicken sandwich had tender chicken and cheese. I didn't try my kid's hotdog but he ate it all. The adults ordered a few of the ciders to try. The skinny dip one was my favorite. I also got the non-alcoholic cider and it was delicious. I shared the avocado salad and shrimp appetizer withy mom. Both were absolutely delicious and just enough for us. The shrimp had a little spice and the dressing on the salad was so good. My husband got the chicken sandwich that was the same as the kids version but with tomato in it and tots on the side instead of chips. Everything was flavorful and fresh.
