As a cider lover, Taproot checks all the boxes! It's situated right in the heart of Front Street downtown, easy walk ability to get to. Clean inside. Food: Kung pao cauliflower is out of this world good. Punch of flavor, a little spice, great crispy texture. Walleye sandwich. Had never had walleye before, which is strange being from Michigan, as so prevalent in Lake Michigan. I won't say it was my favorite sandwich, but it was okay. Fish cooked perfect. I think it was the jalapeño Apple tartar sauce that I wasn't a fan of. I love jalapeños. I love apples. Just.... not together. Cider: great selection, as expected! I can't remember where it was from, but an exceptionally delicious one that had Madagascar vanilla blended it. It was SO SMOOTH. Totally Roasted by Vandermill is always a winner in my book too. They have so many, always changing. Try them all. I don't live in Michigan anymore so who knows when I will make it back, but Taproot is still highly recommended by me anytime I have friends in the area.

This continues to be a craveable go to for me. This is an annual trek. We will generally eat 2 or 3 meals here in a couple days. This is vegan friendly and, even better, vegan unique and delicious. Although the vegan options are less than prior, they are delicious, even for the non-vegan foodies. Fabulous decor, even after the remodel following the fire. Lovely detail. The variety of ciders is outstanding. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Nice bar area with cool driftwood aesthetics.

If you're in Traverse City and want a nice spot to vibe with a cool beverage and a plant based meal the Taproot could be for you. They have a nice little outdoor space where you can chill watch the ongoings of the streets around you (which is where I sat). The inside is pretty cool too decorated with pieces of driftwood and it has a nice vibe to it. We had a couple of their house ciders that were pretty good too. Off the menu we had a firewood pizza with was vegan and the Asian cauliflower starter also vegan both were very good. There are also many other vegan options to choose from too. Also the food came out in a very timely manner. The service was great. Our server was very friendly. social and when we were done we were under no pressure to leave.

We were looking for a place to eat that was relevantly close to our house and this place does not take reservations so we put our name in and then wandered around the downtown until our name was called. We picked this place because the menu looked good and they had a variety of ciders to choose from, and we were very pleased with the cider selection and the food that we ordered. It was a cute little place that was rustically decorated, and the people are also really nice. I only gave it a four because we were not able to secure a reservation and you have to put your name on a waiting list .

We came as a walk-in on a sunday evening and had to wait about 10 minutes for an inside table. We waited at the bar and decided to get a cider flight. They have a large selection of rotating draft ciders and we got to try 4 different ones. All of them were really delicious, the el chavo cider that was flavored with habanero peppers was my favorite one. They each had unique flavor profiles and they seem to have a wide range of ciders for different preferences. After we were seated, we ordered our dinner. I got the Taproot grilled cheese for my main, as I love a fruity grilled cheese. The bacon was crispy, and the house french bread has a good bite but still is soft to melt with the other ingredients. The apricot jam and apples were a nice contrast to what I believe was gouda cheese. The house made chips that came with it had such a good crunch to them. My partner got the Caesar salad and as lovers of Caesar dressing, this one passes the test. It was a large salad and the dressing was plentiful. (didn't get a picture) The service was pretty good and our waitress was able to help us navigate the allergens we had at the table. Overall Taproot was a good experience and when i am in Traverse city again, I would come back!

We had a little bit of time and wanted a snack and a drink, so Nate and I stopped in to Taproot recently. I wasn't really blown away by anything on the food menu, and it seemed really pricey to me. We went with a side salad to share, as well as a flight and glass of cider. They specialize in ciders which I usually love. I liked that you can get a flight of whatever kinds you want, you just pay $3 per sample. I chose 3 different ciders but they were out of the one I really wanted (cherry ginger). I got a peach, lavender, and another semi-dry. They were all just okay for me, but the peach was my favorite. The salad was generously sized for a "side" salad, and had some fun additions like apples and candied nuts. Our server was really nice and very welcoming. I just didn't love this place this time.

Absolutely LOVED Taproot! The selections of ciders were awesome and I liked that they had different to-go size options. I built my own flight and was able to try several different brands of cider that I'd never heard of. I'm a big cider person, and attend the national cider summit frequently, so I was especially impressed how many microbreweries they had on draft that I'd never had before. Plus, the food was DELICIOUS. The options were healthy, nutritious, and farm-to-table but absolutely not lacking in flavor. I had the Farmhouse Mac & Cheese with leeks, apples, and jalapeños. It's up there as one of my favorite Mac & cheeses ever! My husband had a taco plate - which was disappointing because it was only 2 tacos. When advertised as a "plate", we were definitely expecting at least some rice and beans or something. He was still hungry after the tacos, which led to our favorite dish... The Thai Chicken Meatballs with peanut sauce were SO GOOD!! We seriously debating coming back another day of our trip just to get them again. Overall Taproot was one of our top spots in Traverse City. The patio was lovely, the staff was great, and food and cider were fantastic. I'd easily recommend to anyone!

Although the wildfire smoke likely kept some people away, we came around mid afternoon in what should be the beginning of prime time hours and the place was empty. Not a good sign. I found it a bit odd that we had to order at the bar, considering only 2 other groups were there. There were like 4 employees just chatting away at the bar as well. At this point I know what I like in craft beers and I usually never have an unpleasant experience trying them, but we liked nothing we ordered on the beer flight! We had put in an order for the BBQ flatbread as an appetizer as well, and the chicken was super dry. I can't blame the sauce for being to spicy since I'm sure it's a popular local brand. That one's on us. We decided to have an actual dinner closer to our cabin.

When we ordered, the bartender didn't drink which made it hard to know what certain beers taste like, but honestly, no judgement because he did the right thing and offered tastes of beer which was awesome and helpful! So service wise I would say great! The beer tasted really good as well and was decently priced. They had a bourbon barrel stout which was pretty good and newly released. The biggest issue we had was with the food. I ordered the spam sandwich with chips and my wife ordered the chicken quesadilla. While the food was cheap, the quality of the food also seems that way too based off what we ordered. The spam sandwich was supposed to be teriyaki flavored, and didn't get any of that. There wasn't a lot of thousand island dressing on it too, which made the sandwich dry. The chips that were served were clearly out of a bag as they were cold, which made it seem like I could have just gotten a bag myself. I would have paid a few dollars extra to get something fresh like fries. While spam comes from a can and I know this, my wife's chicken quesadilla had chicken that was clearly from a can - it was sopping wet, and the meat was very chunky, and very salty. This made us worry the rest of the food may not be very fresh. While we did have that experience, I will say the pretzel bites were really good and did seem fresh, and they were sourdough! So that was nice. I think this place has very good beer, and a really cool bar setup with a nice stage, arcade machines, and much more. However, I wouldn't come back here for lunch. Instead, I would make food at home. I would highly recommend more fresher options, and I would pay a little more for better quality food.

The halibut was very well seasoned and perfectly cooked, and the risotto was a great accompaniment. My fried perch was, as expected, not as good as the halibut, but still quite above average. The prices were higher than a "regular" sit down, but I felt it was a good value compared to a place like Artisan at Delamar or the restaurants at Grand Traverse Resort (we paid about $85 + tip for the halibut, perch, 1 lobster bisque, and a soda) The location is certainly one of the main draws here, as the restaurant is located right on the water, with a great view of the west bay. We were very happy to get a table with a good view of the water, but it seems like the vast majority of tables also have a good view, aside from the bar seating. The decoration and furniture was tasteful and cute -- not quite fancy, white tablecloth vibes, but much more elevated than your average taxidermy-infested northern Michigan dinner spot (ahem, Nonna Lisa's in Mackinaw...) The service was one thing we encountered that I felt was less than completely perfect. Strangely, it seemed like our waiter was a bit overwhelmed or something, despite the moderate crowd, and forgot to bring our soup until about 2 or 3 minutes before the entree came out, and then did not bring the ciabatta bread until after the entree. We also did not get our Coke until after the entrees came out, which I thought was a bit weird for a place as nice as this. But, I know things like that tend to happen in food service, so I don't hold it against them. It was also nice that the manager came to chat with us about TC and our hometown. Overall, we loved this place, and my girlfriend is begging me to come back. We would love to make this place a tradition!

We stopped in on a Thursday, early evening. They were not very busy and there was a table inside available to sit immediately or plenty of bar seats and tables outside. The man working the bar said our server would be over to bring us menus and to sit wherever we'd like. Some time passed and he eventually brought over menus since we hadn't seen a server and said our server would be over soon. Less than a minute later a woman comes over and asks if we know what we want and was just very curt and unwelcoming. We had not had any time to read the menu, so we said we still needed to look over it first. She did not come back for a long time after this and when we ordered our glasses of wine I also asked if we could get glasses of water. She said "it's over there" looked briefly over her shoulder and then walked off without saying anything else. I then noticed that there was a water station back by the bar and went over to grab them. I wasn't sure what the attitude was over a simple question, but our entire visit was like that and it was incredibly unpleasant. We all really enjoyed our wine, but it was collectively the least favorite stop of our entire trip. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and wouldn't come back after the service we had.
