I never regret coming to Taps. We always leave happy. 5 stars for atmosphere and service, 3.5-4 stars for food. Great selection of beers (as you would expect). Perfect spot for meeting up after work with coworkers, or dining on the early side with small children. They have a solid kids' menu. My favorites are the deep-fried Brussels sprouts and the fried chicken sandwich (bacon on the side). For the reviewers complaining about the location or the flies...surely you can see that it's on the Petaluma river? Don't eat at a river restaurant if you're weirded out by nature. read more

Add Taps to the list of restaurants that raise their prices and still add a %4.5 minimum wage mandate to the bill instead of paying their staff a livable wage. The location is great. Some of the staff ignore you if you sit in the beer garden or off to the side. The food is up and down. Excellent beer selection. The bathrooms are disgusting. Came here while visiting family and absolutely loved it. We started with their brussel sprouts and basket of fries. The sauce they serve with the brussel sprouts is out of this world, and I have never had brussel sprouts so crispy! For my entree I had a steak Cesar salad and a glass of cider. I went to taps yesterday with my good friend and daughter. It was a nice environment! Right on the river and fun music! My friend and I split our courses bc the menu looked good and we couldn't choose! However the service was not good at all. Our server was friendly, but she didn't greet us for close to 20 min. Then she finally asked if we've been helped yet and apologized. Also, as the lunch went on, she never refilled our drinks and we constantly had to ask an employee walking by if they could grab us a refill or more wine, etc. No, it was not busy. On top of this, the grilled cheese I bought for my daughter was grilled on top of dirty grease, as seen in the photo below. The bread soaked up all the dirty oil. It's pretty hard to mess up a grilled cheese in my opinion. The Marinated Steak Cesar Salad was ok at best. The meat wasn't cooked to what I asked and was very tough and chewy. I couldn't even eat one of the pieces because it was chewy like a big wad of gum. I was forced to give up on it! Haha The reason why this has two stars is because the the Beer Cheese burger was FIRE!!! What's crazy is that I would probably go back for that eventually. Hopefully I'll have a better overall experience when I give it a second chance. Overall, this place has a lot of potential. There were a lot of workers there, however they were distracted. They were on their phones a lot and when they weren't on their phones they were standing and chatting. Pretty expensive for the amount of food you get. I ordered a hamburger and it doesn't come with fries and it was almost $20. And the size of the hamburger was like a Mcdonald double cheeseburger. Ordered chicken wings and it was a little dry. I feel like they should charge way less than they should be charging for the amount of food that gets put on the table. A great spot for a sunset view of Petaluma while enjoying a beer! Last visit I split an order of Shawn Wan fries and the Mac burger. The fries were really tasty, especially with a refreshing beer. The burger was ok but was probably expecting a bit better based on how good it sounded off the menu. Definitely will be back for beers and more fries with a view. Visited Taps with some friends back in the summer while in the Petaluma area. At the time there weren't a lot of restaurants open with outdoor dining that could accommodate a party of 10+ without a long wait. Surprisingly we were seated within a few minutes. Taps has set up a few picnic table style tables set up overlooking the river. The service was great and quite attentive. Really good beer list too! We tried an Earl Grey Tea infused beer which was amazing but it's impossible to find now in any stores or other restaurants. Extensive menu that should satisfy any food cravings! I am changing my review to one star. I have been here over 30 times in the past several years but clearly the quality and service has deteriorated. I don't like how the restaurant ignored health orders during the pandemic, I wonder what other health and safety orders they are choosing to ignore? Their behavior according to scientific consensus and legal orders risked spreading the virus and I definitely want no part of a business that supports this. I asked the owner about this and the response was dismissive. I also read the critical reviews on Yelp and the restaurant posts very rude commentary in reply. Why can't they just address the critique - apologize and work to do better - rather than combat it and blast insulting language back at customers? I wonder if this one star review will get the same? 5/15/2021 So Jessica, aka Bangs, thinks it's okay to harass me regarding my review via my inbox. I take it it's common practice for this establishment to attack people for reviews they don't approve of. She is only proving my point by expressing her and her staff distain for me as a customer in these messages. My review triggered them so much that she is sending me messages at 3AM in the morning. WHO DOES THAT! All I can say is that they never had a problem with me spending money there at least three times a week for the past however many years. I was sitting there on the phone trying to figure out why it was so dark and she came over and said "yeah let me have them remake it" as if it looked funny to her as well. Side note: the bus boy even said it didn't look right. It comes back out lighter but half cooked this time. I took two bits and my stomach felt funny so I sent it back and order something else. In the mean time it was 80 degrees out and the sun was shining bright so I ask if I could have the umbrella that goes in the umbrella stand by my table. You would have thought I was in hell asking for ice water the look and response I got from the short old guy who claims to be a manager. I was told that they were not ready for summer and that they didn't have any umbrella. No problem! Note: I was the only customer that was able to sit in that area do to the sun I guess my request triggered them to have a team meeting and deliver me the message of not allowing me to return food, as if I'm a habitual food returner. I have been to this place over 1,000 times over the years and have only return food TWICE! The last thing I returned was Chicken parm substituted with macaroni noodles. They had run out of spaghetti noodles that day and substituted it with macaroni noodles, but do not inform me before hand. When I mentioned that it was done wrong they looked and me like shut up and eat it. They had expected me to be satisfied because they had given me extra macaroni. I was not! So after that day I guess they took a mental note of the black women who was not happy just in case. Little do they know it is a struggle to come back to this overpriced cesspool but unfortunately I am a loyal customer. It's 85 degrees and you don't have the umbrellas for the stands that are displayed by our tables. And then get offended when I ask for them. Okay! People are too defensive for the service that they render. The best thing about this place is the location. Its on the the water. The food and beer is subpar. They pick and choice who they tend to and get mad when you point out that something is off. Go across the street to Brewsters Brewery. the ambience is amazing and the prices are the same. PS. First time trying Taps and as much as I wanted to enjoy it, sadly I could not. Had the appetizer Mac and Cheese and it was like a soup. I was looking for some creamy cheese but only found broth sauce mixture throughout the entire bowl where I could only take a few bites. When I told the young gal who was bussin' our table she chuckled and said "Yeah, I know" I also had the fried chicken sandwich & I wasn't a fan of that either. The bread was much larger that the supposedly fried chicken that was somewhere up in there. Their mustard slaw didn't taste homemade, tasted like honey mustard from a bottle mixed with a bag of coleslaw from Costco. Unfortunately can't give you a review of the side because there wasn't any that comes with it, unless for an additional fee. I can't believe I paid $13.95 for mostly bread. On Better note my friend, that I took out for her birthday, enjoyed her fish and chips. Her fish appeared to be freshly fried but her fries did not. As they say, you love and you learn. Well that was odd. So I am here now with three girlfriends, and my dog at Taps in Petaluma along the river. We of course ordered way to much food. The Food was just okay. Seems you are best ordering the fried Brussels and sandwiches/ burgers. Don't do the pretzel. Don't do Abe's fries it's pretty much fries just drenched in hot sauce (barely any blue cheese). I mean this place is what it is, a brewery with American food. So the food is decent if you are having a couple beers and the nice outdoor patio along the river makes it even better. The odd part. Service. Our waitress seemed fed up with us before we sat down. Forgot a dish entirely but we ended up being happy about since we ordered to much. Then forgot avocado on a burger which yes happens, but when my friend mentioned it she brought out/ kind of tossed it to us when she had already almost finished her burger. When she returned with the wrong fries for my friend I asked if she could just take the avocado off the bill instead of the side at this point. She walked away saying I didn't even.... (to far away to hear) Dude, here is the deal. All those mistakes, who gives a hoot. Make all the mistakes and bring me all the shitty bar food you want. Food was good, and beer selection was nice, though a bit overpriced. My issue was how rudely we were treated. We were there for Bands in the Basin, the last artist in particular. We brought a blanket to sit on the bank, like we did last time, but we were not allowed to sit on the bank, only at a table. Ok, we gladly used one of their outside tables and bought plenty of food and drinks. I spoke with the hostess about the fact that we would like the table until 7pm, when the band would finish. She said no problem, as long as we didn't mind if others were also sat at the table with us if it got crowded. That was totally fine with us, but at 6pm the waitress decided she wanted the table back. When she was told that we arranged to have the table for another hour she became irate and made us leave right then, in the middle of the show with a full beer I had just received. I understand it was a busy day, and that's why I made sure to speak to them about it ahead of time so this wouldn't happen, yet it did. If she had any idea how big a tipper I am (especially since it was my birthday), I'm sure she wouldn't have gotten greedy and demanded we leave so she could get fresh customers at the table we reserved. This is the first time I have ever left no tip at all. We were rushed out so fast, I didn't have a chance to get my birthday gifts off my seat. I had to send someone back to get them. Do not pay attention to the bad reviews recently. I noticed that one such "reviewer" had bad things to say about 5 different eateries in town on the same day. YELP should have rules about that behavior, especially since she attacked the moral fiber of the owners rather than just rate the food and the service. That's just downright uncalled for, let alone the fact that her reviews looked like an uneducated middle schooler that doesn't know the difference between to, too and two wrote them. Punctuation? Run on sentences? Generally, just hard to read. Like, really hard to read. Hurts my eyes. Sorry for the rant. Uneducated, rude and misinformed people can give a bad name to a great business. If you need 4%, increase your prices!!! Stop stating a price on the menu then charging more.. that is deceptive! It is unethical.. and don't say you posted it on your menu, it wasn't there.. and if it was posted somewhere it was not readily evident.. and regardless, it's is a low down cheating way to treat your customers. read more

Tonight we ordered two sandwiches with fries and an order of brussel sprouts which was $50, pretty pricy especially when we could only eat the chicken sandwiches. Still love the location and would love to come back if they can get this fixed but for now it doesn't seem like they are tasting the food they send out. Updated review Okay so went to Taps for lunch today and it was even better than the first yelped visit. The fried chicken sandwich is delicious. I had high hopes it would be great but I was disappointed unfortunately went with family for dinner and beer last night. Table of only 6 I was the only one who ordered the chicken sandwich and you pay extra for fries 2.50 for a tiny hand full. The chicken was supposed to be grill but it was over grilled tasted burnt, very thin and no flavor on chicken as well as the sauce was barely there and for a tomato pesto not tasty. My family got burgers which looked better but they said not great. Beer was good and lots to choose. Then.....we got the bill.... they charged 20% group forced tip (only 6 of us) and another 4% for some Petaluma cost of living increase?? WTH? Way back when this prime restaurant location use to be home to JM Rosen. Since Taps opened in this spot years ago I have not had the opportunity to try it out until Friday June 14th when a friend & I decided to give Taps a try. I mean how could I not since I've heard from numerous friends how good they are from their large selection of beers & food to their brunch & bottomless mimosas on Sunday. Taps offers indoor & outside seating. The outside seating is covered for those cold or rainy times or it can be opened when it's nice. There are also heat lamps for evening time. We opted to sit inside & were seated by the window which had a view of the river. Inside there are a few TV's which are playing various sporting events. Our server was Jessica & she was attentive. My friend ordered the Allagash White beer & I got the Hen House Gose Local. And it's not your typical bar food. Yes they have burgers, even a veggie burger but they also offer some unique twists in their menus which is what we opted for. We decided to order the Shawn Won Fries, Korean Short Ribs & Deep Fried Brussel Sprouts to share. The Shawn Won Fries are fries topped with sauteed top sirloin, pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions & thousand island dressing. These were very good & you definitely get sauce & meat on practically every bite. The Deep Fried Brussels Sprouts are tossed with black pepper & sea salt and has a Worcestershire aioli dipping sauce and they were decent but were overly salted. The Korean Short Ribs are grilled beef short ribs served on a salad made of kimchi, daikon, carrot, jalapeno & cilantro & topped with a sweet fermented chili sauce. Quite honestly the only thing I liked was the kimchi, the short ribs fell flat as they weren't marinated enough & they were cold. Serving it stone cold made it very lack luster & added to the bland taste. When our server, Jessica, came & asked how everything tasted I did mention this to her. Total cost excluding tax for 4 beers & 3 shareable size appetizers was $64.85. All in all, I would come back to Taps to try other foods as well as their Sunday brunch, I mean you can't go wrong with bottomless mimosas! read more

Probably the worst service I've ever received. We were seated immediately in the picnic area even though the patio was open (and warmer) The waiter took our order and it took about 50 minutes for our tasteless appetizer to come to our table. Again, the patio is open and there arnt many people in the restaurant so the wait time makes no sense at all. It takes another 20 minutes before our food comes. All cold. We are cold, hungry, and at this point so irritated. There's no way it can get worse right? WRONG. I take a bite and pull some kind of paper and plastic material out of my sandwich!! Now just to let you know there were 6 empty tables outside (table service area) and no one was being seated. So we just left. Went to Taps to enjoy the "Bands On The Water" show this past Saturday (June 26). Unfortunately, we ran into the "Waitress From Hell"!! Didn't get her name,....big and tall with short dark hair. I will likely be returning,.....but when I do,....if she's working,......I will exit immediately. No need to bore anyone with all the gory details,....it's enough to say that she was the most unprofessional, arrogant, cocky, and disrespectful waitress I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Please get rid of her before she does more harm to your reputation. For the record,.....I have patronized your facility multiple times and always had a fabulous time,......but the phrase "one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch" was proven on this fateful day.
