Disappointing return visit. My vegetarian burrito had meat pieces in it, and although I asked for avocado twice, I never got it-and no, it was not busy. We were one of only two tables in the place. The burrito came in a basket with a paper lining, which got wet from moisture from the tortilla and fused to the tortilla. read more

Good freshly prepared Mexican food but some portions are somewhat small. I tried the pork and the chicken tamales. The pork was better. The chicken meat was a little sparse and kind of dry. The guacamole was tasty. The fresh red salsa was delicious and had good heat to it. My husband has tacos with retried beans. I was surprised that the portion of beans was so small and that the tacos seemed kind of sparse on meat. read more

A little off the beaten path compared to the Tex-Mex spots right off the interstate, this is also not your typical loud and colorful Speedy Gonzalez lunch special spot. It's Spartan, almost divey. The restaurant is quiet, with the silence being broken only by the hum of the refrigerator and Spanish being spoken by the staff and clientele. The menu is authentic and made for the locals and Mexican customers. I ordered chiles rellenos, which were not on the menu but they were very happy to make. The chiles came with rice, beans and an order of corn tortillas. Chips and salsa were brought out while I waited, chips were thick and crisp, salsa was fresh. The chile rellenos weren't much to look at, but both the chiles and cheese were fresh. The breading was a bit oily, but not unpleasant with the egg dominant in the breading. The tortillas are definitely made here and were fantastic. The rice and beans were plain and could have benefitted with a bit more love. Overall it was a good, authentic meal. No alcohol served here, which had I known may have kept me from coming, but I'm glad I got to try Taqueria Altamirano. Authentic. Friendly service. Fresh food. No beer. read more

A wonderful little hidden Gem. The food is outstanding and highly authentic. I found this place on Yelp while driving back from So. Carolina. I didn't see exactly what I wanted on the menu so I asked the waitress if I could have chicken enchiladas with green tomatillo salsa on it. She was happy to oblige. Everything from the chips to the enchiladas was outstanding. I had a cup of queso too which is offered in several variations. It isn't a fancy place but it's a good size, well lit and the staff is very friendly. When she noticed that I was wanting some help, one of the owners daughters got up from doing her school work to get me more chips. Everyone was courteous and helpful. I hope I have a reason to go back here in the future. read more

We were coming back from Florida and what we really wanted was Korean. After finding out no Korean restaurants were open on Sunday we decided to try Mexican. This place had decent review on Google so we decided to give it a try. I will say this is one of the best place I've been! Real Mexican half liter cokes, tacos were amazing! Tried four different tacos and all were awesome! Wife had a chicken fajitas, and all the tortillas were made in house. My 4 year old son loved the cheese dip and scraped every bit of it out of the bowl. Wait staff was very polite and was very helpful. She was only staff on duty at 1pm Sunday but handled the situation great!! Bad, it's little out of the way and maybe hard to find and bit odd location. We were only non Hispanic customers. If you come here-- it's your own fault now. Consider this a warning DO NOT COME HERE!!! During my 30 minute visit the seeming ignorant teenager (who was left alone to make sure to destroy any reputation this store had) openly smoked a cigarette in the kitchen, let guests serve themselves and go into the kitchen as well as PUT THEIR HANDS IN THE ICE!! I will be calling the health department, this place IS NOT sanitary!!!! I honestly felt the need to warn people coming in NOT to eat here! I have worked in the food industry all of my life and this place is the epitome of where food Bourne illnesses are created or maybe even a new breed of disease. Authentic Mexican food. I had the Carnitas tacos and my husband had the two medium burritos with chicken and steak. Excellent flavor and fresh ingredients. Appears to be a family owned business. Do not expect a Mexican restaurant with loud colors and music catering to Americans. The atmosphere is stricly a simple, low key family run restaurant. This is hands down the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Tifton. The tacos are reasonably priced and their tortillas are handmade! Doesn't get any better than that. My significant other and I are regulars and after trying all of the Mexican restaurants in Tifton, this by far takes the cake.
