We went here based on reviews I had read about the Birria. It did not disappoint. Phenomenal. It came with 3 tacos, a little side of onions cilantro, salsa & of course the Birria sauce. So good. It got in my hair & on my sweater & I'm not even mad. My boyfriend got the El pastor quesadillia. His was really good as well but mine? Cannot compare. I really wanted to like Taqueria Bahia because I genuinely want to support local businesses, and the service here is very nice. The staff was friendly and welcoming both times I visited. That said, I've been here twice and unfortunately had the same experience both times. The first visit, I ordered a regular chicken burrito, and it was pretty bland. I figured it might have just been an off day, so I gave them another try and ordered a super burrito the second time. Sadly, it was also bland--even with sour cream and guacamole, which I didn't really see or taste. Their burritos are long but not very thick, and flavor-wise they just didn't hit for me. I was hoping for something more seasoned and bold. I truly hope this is taken as constructive feedback, because I do want local spots like this to succeed. The service is good, and the people are kind--it's just the food that needs more flavor. Unfortunately, based on my experiences, I can't recommend it and probably won't be returning, but I wish them the best and hope they continue improving. read more

Recently my roommate brought home a take-out taco salad which I have had from them before. It came with a choice of meat, beans, and usually has a dollop of guac and sour cream, black olives, etc. I asked for extra lettuce, cheese and tomatoes wanting more 'salad'. The top of the flour mold holding the wet ingredients was level. It looked exactly the same as it did when I just ordered a taco salad as is. It should have been a significant dome, IMHO ! ! ! So, not only wasn't it anywhere near as big as it should have been, with a tip it cost a whopping $25.44! Way too much for the quantity. Also, if I were to rate their salsa's by other Taqueria's in Marin, theirs are my least favorite. If you want the best, head down to San Rafael. read more

I've been coming here for 10 years off and on, and it's declined. To start, I came with my family tonight and they gave us two baskets of chips barely half full. Why not just give us one nice full basket rather than two pathetically filled baskets basically saying there is a lack of hospitality. I ordered fish tacos, and in the past, it was a beautiful white fillet of fish. As a year has passed since I had been here last, i asked if the fish was fried (or grilled) to be sure and they said no it was not fried - so I ordered it. Well, It was definitely deep fried cubes of frozen fish. Weird taste. Also, the lighting is this weird bright white fluorescent cafeteria style cheap lighting that makes you want to just immediately exit . I don't recall they always had this lighting. I'm really disappointed because this was the place. I recommended to all of my friends & family in Marin. I have tried Taqueria Bahia three times. The first time was good. The second time was okay. The third time was somewhat disappointing because the tortillas weren't soft. They weren't fried crunchy, but they weren't fresh soft. I always order the Carnitas Tacos and I expect the tortillas to be soft, unless of course they're specified to be crunchy, which is not my preference. Got the tripa tacos, we both agreed they were way too dry and stringy, not enough lime in the world to make it not taste like meaty rubber. I've had slim jims with more flavor AND juiciness than this. I felt my jawline getting stronger trying to chew the hard meat. Cashier had an attitude when we walked in even though we were both friendly and said hi, just blinked at us and said "What you want?", couldn't even uncap a soda or get me a to-go bag without a stare of malice. And finally, waiting for an uber and I grabbed some napkins on the way out from their little outdoor patio since it was cold and my nose was running, and bro was staring me down like he expected me to take off with a steel chair or locked up bike any second. Sir, I'm a scrawny chick in her 20s wearing heels and a red dress and the most extravagant costume jewelry money can buy, I'm the least scary thing you'll see. This is the best taqueria in San Rafael. We've been looking for a taqueria that is similar to the ones from the mission in San Francisco and Taqueria Bahia has been the closest to it for us!! The steak was cooked perfectly and they also had the habanero sauce which goes so well with every bite!!! The burrito was juicy and the packed with flavor. Inside the restaurant, they have old portraits of Mexican historical figures provided with a brief history which we found really cool and interesting. Service was also great. This is my new favorite go to spot for tacos every since my partner moved up here. You order at the register and they will bring your food to the table. There is a self serve sauce bar with lime, jalapeños and other sides. Right next to the sauce bar is also where you get water. I believe chips are unlimited refill. The tacos are loaded with meat and are super flavorful. It can be a hit or miss though as the meat can be dry sometimes but I just put more sauce on it. My partner usually gets the chimichanga with refried beans. He had it with black beans and everything was falling apart. Perfectly fried and has a nice cheese pull because it comes out fresh! Although it is deep fried, it is not greasy at all. The employees are very nice and friendly and accommodate any requests with our orders. There is metered street parking but right down the corner there is also a parking structure that is free on the weekends! read more

Just exploring downtown San Rafael and saw this place. Seems very busy esp.during lunch hours. A lot of construction workers like to dine here and was recommended to us while browsing their menu outside. We ordered a plate of Chile Relleno and Chimichanga (Beef) that came with rice, beans, guacamole and lettuce and ofcourse Horchata. They offered complimentary chips and salsa. The food were very delicious. Hubby enjoyed the Beef Chimichanga. He said that the beef was very flavorful and tender. I enjoyed the Chile Relleno esp. the red sauce that came with it. Overall was great except the chips, it was stale. We requested for more but didn't made any difference, still was very stale. The different salsa that came with tasted fresh though. read more

Doordash let me know that it might be 40 minute wait, but I only had to wait about half the time to my food to be done and arrive - SUPER SPEEDY SERVICE!!!! As for the chimichanga, the sides were crunchy and very satisfying to eat and they give a good amount of cheese which I loved. The tasty meats, fresh rice and beans, burrito size and value all hit the mark. I'm always greeted and feel good when I get my takeout. I'll will have to come down and try their Menudo! The only qualm I have is that I wish they had everything labeled as dairy free, vegan, gluten-free, etc. I got the vegan burrito and it contained rice, beans, guac, lettuce, salsa and they also added on fajita veggies per my DoorDash request. I LOVE BAHIA! This is the best Mexican place in San Rafael. Food is well seasoned, so good my in-laws went to the kitchen and tipped the cook themselves! As authentic as it gets. Taqueria Bahia is one of my favorite local Mexican spots. They know exactly what they're doing with their dishes, and I've never gone wrong. Even the basic dishes are fantastically done and I've never had to send anything back or had my order made incorrectly. This place has become a second home for me on those nights I just want to enjoy a meal by myself and stuff my stomach in peace. I'm not a big Yelp reviewer these days but felt obligated to respond after reading M.R. from Pinole's garbage review. Their food is great and they've had Birria on the menu since at least 2009 not just since it became the trendy new taco. They also have crispy tacos which isn't too common in San Rafael and sometimes I like my tacos crispy. Back to M.R. though. Who hates on a place in downtown San Rafael for not having it's own parking lot. Plus it doesn't have a family ambience? It looks exactly like a any local taqueria. It has a bunch of booths and the people there are all super nice. And the music is at the standard restaurant volume. Your takes are bad and you should feel bad. read more
