My buddy and I came for a late dinner and left satisfied. The restaurant is clean and fairly well maintained. Parking is fairly easy with several neighboring businesses. I opted for a side of guacamole, a chicken taco, and a carne asada burrito. The guacamole was good but I've had better. The chicken soft taco was above average for street tacos. The asada burrito was the winner. The meat was marinated well and cooked properly. The flavors were well balanced. The chips and salsa were decent but I've had better. Drink choices are fairly abundant. They have bottled drinks, fountain drinks, and horchata and the like. I'd likely lean towards four stars but I was disappointed as we left. I saw someone bring in a dog and place it on top of a table and not one of the employees flinched or said a word. Found this place after a brief search of nearby establishments, and it ended up being one of the better taquerias I've tried in the greater Sac area -- and I've been here on and off for 26 years! I had the al pastor Cali burrito, which was quite tasty, and my spouse was very pleased with her carnitas super. The person at the counter, who I would guess is one of the owners, was very friendly and professional. Can't believe I have never heard of this place until my 3rd year here in Davis! Wish I've discovered this place earlier. Came here for a quick dinner to-go on a weeknight. Even though the place was smaller than other taquerias in Davis, it was very clean and nicely decorated. The cashier who took our order was also super friendly and made sure we get the good stuff since it was our first time. We ordered the Aggie Burrito Bowl (with steak) and the Super Burrito (with beef tongue). Let's just say that I usually don't think Mexican restaurants differ all that much from each other, but I think this place is quite different (good different) than other places in Davis. The Aggie Burrito had a cheesy sauce that made the whole thing super flavorful and the steak itself was also really good (except the steak pieces could be bigger). The beef tongue in the Super Burrito was so tender! They also didn't skimp out on the meat. Both plates had ample amount of meat was overall really good. Overall, I think that this is my new favorite taqueria. While the sauces for the chips were lacking (only two sauces), they certainly make it up with the good food (big portion, too!) as well as the clean and friendly environment. This is a very nonsensical debate that one of my co-workers and I have been having. So to settle this debate, we decided to get tacos for lunch. On a Friday. Taqueria Davis is located in a smallish plaza with a likewise smallish parking lot that makes it difficult to maneuver in and park. But you gotta do it for the tacos. (Or just park elsewhere I guess). I cannot speak to anything except the tacos, because of the aforementioned reason for why I made the visit to Taqueria Davis, but the tacos were delicious! FOOD: Apparently they offer both soft and crispy shell tacos?? I did not know this until just now. Soft tacos: $2.25, Crispy tacos: $2.85 Meat options: carnitas, carne asada, pollo, pastor, cabeza, chile verde, chorizo I went with a carne asada taco, pastor taco, and a fish taco ($3.25). I wasn't that impressed by the fish taco. It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't amazing. But the carne asada and pastor tacos were delicious-- the meat is flavored so well! Also, in case you're wondering, no need to bus your own table, despite how weird that may feel. tl;dr: Would definitely come back for the carne asada and pastor alone! Yum! The gentleman who runs the front register and takes your order is one of the most delightful human beings I've encountered on this earth. Or maybe burritos are their game, but either way, my chile verde plate was anything but chile verde. Taking carnitas and smothering in green salsa is not a proper chile verde. I can't think of time I've encountered a taqueria that cuts corners and hasn't slow-cooked it and made it from scratch. This was a huge miss. The green salsa was also entirely too acidic and sour and I wasn't able to finish my plate. Rice was bland, chips were very stale and not made in-house but store bought. They only have two salsas, neither of which are hot let alone medium in temp. The fresh sliced radishes were a nice touch, but neither that or the pleasant service could make up for the so-so food quality and flavorless meal. Rather surprising the ratings for this spot. this was my first time ordering from this Mexican restaurant in Davis because i've been to the other Mexican spots Taqueria Guadalajara and Taqueria El Burrito. As a vegan, I noticed they had much more variety to substitute most of their items. I ordered the crispy tacos de papa without cheese or crema with frijoles and arroz. I told them I was vegan which made them realize to substitute the beans to frijoles del olla and the arroz to veggie rice since they do use chicken broth within their original recipe. Taqueria Davis was my JAM when I was a student in Davis. I was lucky enough to live a block away and probably went there a little too much. Now I'm over in Sacramento but still make the drive now n' then just to eat at my favorite taqueria! The tacos are phenomenal, but my favorite is a burrito with their special Taekwondo (Korean BBQ style marinated) meat. Oh yeah, and the horchata is delicious. Just went to Taqueria Davis with my wife. We dont live in the area, and rely on Yelp reviews when picking unfamiliar restaurants. We were greeted by a VERY polite, talkative, and engaging gentleman at the front register. I informed him that we had found his restaurant via Yelp. A young lady who was behind us in line chimed in and said that Taqueria Davis was by far her favorite place to eat in Davis. My wife was pleased to see that they had vegetarian choices and ordered the vegan bowl. I chose the fish bowl. We were both pleased with our choices. The vegan bowl was filled with all different kinds of grilled vegatables, cooked to perfection. The fish bowl, which included Dover sole was delicious as well. The prices were fair, and the quantities provided were more than adequate. We both left the restaurant glad that we had trusted our Yelp research, and vowed to come back again the next time we are in Davis.
