This is still my favorite Mexican restaurant in Yolo County. Probably one of my favorites anywhere. I almost always go here to treat myself after a blood donation (plus other times, as well). I usually have the regular asada burrito with black beans, and enjoy it with their roasted habanero salsa and escabeche. Today, though, I decided to mix it up a bit with two goat quesabirria tacos (still with habanero salsa, don't worry) and consommé. So delicious! Can't wait to come back and try so many more things on their menu!! I got the crispy shrimp tacos with a side of beans & rice. Hubby got the same along with 2 steak street tacos. I have been to this taqueria multiple times and really enjoy their food. Service is friendly, quick and reliable. They have an excellent salsa bar, aguas frescos and a fountain drink machine. Portions are generous and prices reasonable. I've tried their tacos, burritos, chili rellenos, fajitas and tostadas. A lot of students come here and load up on the salsa bar and chips. They are very generous and never say anything despite some pretty egregious self serve portions. Came here for dinner with my friend who lives in Davis and I'm so glad this is their go-to spot and they brought me here! The restaurant is clean, has a big salsa bar, and has amazing food. I got a carnitas torta and it was delicious, the meat was flavorful with a perfect mix of some fatty and some crispy parts. Their aguas frescas are super delicious as well, every flavor was rich and refreshing. The staff are very nice too and they are quick with their service. This place is easily the best place to get a burrito in Davis, California. Unfortunately, the Mexican food in Davis is kind of lacking, but this is the place I go to when I really want a super burrito. The burritos are a decent size, and in my opinion have a good proportion of meat to rice to beans to other things. I also find the meat to be pretty well seasoned, there's no bland meat here. Also, I really appreciate that they have refried beans. Now, it's not gonna be as good as a burrito from the Mission in San Francisco, but I find that I really do enjoy the burrito. It's definitely also a little bit smaller than a burrito from the Mission or Chipotle, but it's a good portion for one person. The chips are also really good, I love a thick tortilla chip, and their chips are thick. Salsa bar is kind of standard, but taste fine. Service is also pretty good, nothing really stand out, but they're always busy and I always find them to be really polite. In terms of ambience, it's fine. I will say that the place is always clean and I always see the workers cleaning salsa station, which I really appreciate. If you're gonna come here, don't be surprised if the line goes out the door. The line moves really fast and they just have a lot of really loyal customers. All in all, this is the one of the few places in Davis that I tend to go to often for a quick dinner. read more

Y'all this is the place for authentic and decently priced Mexican food. Tacos, burritos, nachos, tostadas, quesadilla, birrias, they have it all. AND there's a complimentary self-serve chips and salsa section. Service is quick--you order at the front, get a number, and seat your self. Then they'll bring the food to you. I got the tacos de camarón and tostada de ceviche. Both delicious! The shrimp in the tacos was cooked just the right amount of char, and the flavor was perfectly savory. The ceviche tostada was a bit messy since all the juices from the ceviche dripped down, but the tostada held up just fine by the end of it. The chips and salsa station had everything--a whole thing of freshly toasted chips, plus different salsas and sides to choose from. Oh i will so be back. This place was very good. Loved their burrito. Loved their salsa bar. Loved the complementary chips. I ordered the regular sized burrito with my choice of asada and a side of sour cream. My cousin got the super sized burrito with adobada. And I kid you not! Admittedly, I do not eat a lot of Mexican food (although I'm from LA!), but I do love eating at Taqueria Guadalajara! Prices are super reasonable and portions are extremely filling!! Make sure to grab some free chips while you wait for your order. It's so nice to be able to start eating right away, esp if you're super hungry when you come in! One thing I didn't know until I was pregnant, was that you can buy the salsa and escabeche (pickled veggies) to go! 32 oz of the escabeche is only $7. I went to Davis for undergrad so guads provided me with a comfort meal whenever I needed it. Although I've had their tacos and can vouch for their yumminess, their birria for me has always hit the spot. I still go back to Davis just for guads so you know I love it. This time, Marissa told me I couldn't have chips unless I ordered food. I had already bought a drink (which comes with free refills I don't even use), but she still said no. I tried to explain, but no luck. I'll still stop by for a drink now and then, but I won't be ordering food here again. Note to the owners: little things matter. Letting a paying customer have a handful of chips builds loyalty. Taking that away does the opposite. As a struggling college student, this landmark ensured you were well-fed, whether it be on their free warm chips and fresh salsas or their delicious food. This was one of the most authentic places that my LA natives and I went to via word of mouth, as Yelp was just beginning to gain popularity. There was also a Davis forum website where Taqueria Guadalajara as one of the top options back then. I had to revisit this place as it brought back fond memories with college friends. I opted to sample their meats with the tacos, as burritos and chimichangas were my college M.O. AL PASTOR: This was our favorite and an absolute solid al pastor, with tender flavorful pork and a hint of pineapple. It was not super greasy and grilled perfectly. ASADA: Nothing beats the classic and I loved the grill flavor on the asada. FISH: Grilled fish was seasoned perfectly for a light taco. SHRIMP: 2-3 pieces of shrimp seasoned and cooked a little past bouncy. CARNITAS: You definitely taste the oil in the fried pork here, but flavor was excellent. BIRRIA: As part of a weekend special, this was a bit drier and gamey than expected. This one may be goat? I'd save the birria for restaurants that specialize in it. ADOBADA: Marinated steak was excellent and tender. True to form, I was full and thirsty for a long time afterwards even if I biked and walked around town. It was definitely a trip down memory lane. The ambiance was nice, it felt like the inside of a a regular taqueria. Not too clean but not too dirty. The pictures inside made it feel sort of homey. The service was good, I recieved my food in a timely manner. I personally ordered a torta with carne asada, got horchata, and chips with green sauce. I ate about half of it before I realized I should take a picture, but the torta was good! It was meaty, soft, and savory. I like that it came with the toppings seperated so you can add them yourself if you want them. The horchata was good too, the combination of rice, cinnamon, and water was heavenly and very refreshing. Last but not least, the chips and salsa were delicious! It was self serve too which was nice.
