Good food here, but it helps if you know the drill. Food needs to be ordered at the counter; there is no table service. That means also asking for a menu if you have not studied one online. Once you know this, everything else should go smoothly. Our food came out after a short time and was delicious and well priced. We had a combo of beef and chicken tacos and the chicken mole. Two stars because of the RIDICULOUSLY LONG WAIT and they MESSED UP OUR ORDER. Saw that this place recently opened, and we were excited to have Mexican tacos in this area. We've been to Taqueria El Cabrito in Annapolis and this was a different experience. We walked in and ordered 6 tacos (2 carnitas, 2 al pastor, and 2 chorizo), 1 pozole, and horchata. We waited and waited and finally got our order 30 minutes later, which was very frustrating, since there were only two people before us. We got home and saw there were only 4 tacos instead of the 6 we ordered, and there was chicken in it, which wasn't what we ordered at all. They have the El Nino Aguas Frescas line of drinks, so the horchata was not made in house. I understand this place recently opened, but this is hard to excuse. Might try this place again in several months because the food is what we've been looking for in Wheaton, but not planning to return anytime soon. read more

This is more of a review on the service (or lack thereof). Upon entering, I stood at the window for a bit, but the person ignored me. Thinking that maybe she was busy (or maybe didn't see me), I said hello in a cheerful manner, she looked at me and continued doing what she was doing. I think it would have been nice if she would said something like 'I'll be with you in a minute' (or even an Espera). I guess I could understand if the restaurant was swamped, but I was the only person inside. So, I promptly left (without ordering anything) because I'm not gonna bend over backwards to get someone's attention for me to spend money in an establishment. read more

This review is from a native Mexican. These tacos, by far, are the freaking best. The Cueritos (pork) tacos are my favorite. Everything so far I've tried in this place is really really good. It reminds me of street food in Mexico City. If you are a bougie individual that complains about everything ie parking, utensils, paint job, gloves etc.. stay away. If you LOVE real authentic Mexican food from a hole in the wall you will absolutely LOVE it. Thank me later!!! There aren't any managers here, so Karen you can't ask for one. A pleasant surprise of a mini-restaurant tucked inside a convenience store at the corner of Georgia Ave and University Blvd in Wheaton, MD. They cook-to-order and serve a variety of hispanic food. Wau... AMAZING autenthic Mexican food! We ordered Pozole verde with chicken. Even in Mexico City we never had it this good. We also ordered a Tlayuda -- large size high quality tortilla, stuffed with cecina (cured beef made by them), avocado, sour cream, cheese, chorizo, radishes, etc.... Memorable! This taqueria leans more towards Mexican than Salvadoran, and is a very much welcomed addition to the already formidable restaurant scene in Wheaton, MD. Yeah, it's just a little kitchen attached to the Exxon station, but they have enchiladas verdes and chilequiles on the menu and they are SOLID. The salsas are great - not 100% sure but I think the green is a tomatillo with a little avocado and the red-rust-ish colored hotter one is a fried arbol chile based concoction. Unfortunately, I can only give them two stars because they never have the taco I like, tripe. This time, not only were they out of that, they were also out of pupusa. Sad to say but I don't think I'll be coming back here. They're too inconsistent with the items I like. Hubby tried the enchilada which was a hard for us both. The food was good but the wait was long and they cheated us. On my receipt I saw a $3 up charge for extra meat. I ran back to ask and he said it was because I ordered lengua taco. I think he was trying to cheat us and made up an excuse. Because my friend got the same and no charge. Besides a taco is $3 how can it cost double just for getting lengua. This is my first ever yelp review. I've been a long time lurker but after having these tacos here at El Cabrito, I'm definitely going to be returning. Don't be turned off by the fact they operate out of a gas station, their food is anything but gas station quality. I ordered 1 lengua and 1 tripe taco. The meat was tender and very flavorful. The tortillas were nice and soft. The green sauce was also very delicious and not too spicy in my opinion( I love spicy food though). The red sauce definitely had more of a kick but shouldn't be too spicy to some people. The service was very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be returning and trying more items on their extensive menu of authentic Mexican food. read more

We stopped in since this restaurant recently opened. It's in a back portion of the Exxon with a few tables but there is an entrance on University. We had the taco/beans/rice combo and tried the carnitas, barbacoa, al pastor, chorizo and carne asada tacos. They were incredible - the corn tortillas were fresh and the meat was very flavorful. Fair warning, this place doesn't look like much from the outside. Its a kitchen attached to a gas station. Parking is non-existent. There maybe a spot next to the trash bin and a couple of spots next to the air compressors. Inside, there are a couple tables and that's it. However, what comes out of that kitchen is nothing short of amazing. I read some of the earlier reviews. The complaints that people had have been pretty much addressed. I've been there twice already and its good and enticing enough that I just want to go down the list and try everything on their menu. Their tacos are simple and delicious. The first time i was there, i just went Tacos. Today, I've tried the dish where they had the Huarache, sope and Taco (Hay Oxaca). My only complaint is that they stacked everything together on one plate and it was a bit messy eating it. But it was delicious. I really don't have a frame of reference of whether this is authentic or not, but I know what i like and this is it. read more
