    CHILE CON QUESO
    Fiona N.

Services were fast and great. Food not so great to be honest... most of the vegetables on my fajita were too charred. The portion size wasn't on the bigger side and I was able to finish everything. Their queso doesn't seem natural. Not recommended. Great guac though. Two entrees, one dip. Spent $72 with tax and tips.

Tuesday 11/19/2024 I've had this spot on my radar for over a month but now I'm finally visiting it. I spent $58.27 on a pick up order via DoorDash and got the carne asada a la Mexicana (medium) $26, shredded chicken chimichanga $19, and tres leches $10. The pick up process was easy and service was decent for the short time I was there picking up. - the carne asada la Mexicana (steak) was better than I expected and I would give a 7.6/10 but $26 for the meal seems overpriced but maybe that's just me. - The chimichanga impressed me as it was better than expected and the chicken was moist and not dried out. Only takeaway is that $19 for the meal is pretty crazy for the portion you get. - The tres leches was a huge letdown. It was average, small, and OVERPRICED (charging $10 whole dollars for it is a scam). - The rice & beans that came with the meals were pretty regular & standard. Besides the Tres leches, the food was actually decent but I have a hard time believing that those high prices are worth it (they're not).

I have to say that the food and service were a little disappointing. My friend had never been there before and I raved how much I love El mariachi. She ordered soft tacos and said that only the steak taco was good. She also ordered a chicken and I brought it home and ate it the next day. The taco had seasoning on it that made it a little salty. I ordered steak and shrimp fajita. It was very good. We also ordered guacamole. I was a little shocked on the amount they give you for the price. It was a small portion and I had to ask for more chips because we ate the first chips with the salsa. I wouldn't order the guacamole next time. the beans in the rice are good. The WAiter did not checked on us frequently and I needed to ask for more water; that usually is never the case. The restaurant was quiet. It was a Saturday late lunch 3 pm. I know I will go back but this time I was disappointed.

A Mexican restaurant with some surprises. One of us got cajun jambalaya. Not Mexican. Not bad. I wasn't looking for a touch of New Orleans, but they nailed the sauce, with chicken and shrimp cooked just right. Our other dishes were traditional: shrimp fajitas and chicken fajitas. Again properly cooked and seasoned. Plenty of components to add into the tortilla wrapper. We finished with tres leches dessert. Moist and sweet as it was designed. Is 4 stars harsh? I based it on other Mexican restaurants that are on this level. For 5 stars, I needed them to be a cut above.

ENSALADA EXOTICA was and is always great and again...in a bowl vs. plate allows for less while looking like more.

The food is great and I have been going here for years, but I can say that the prices have gone up astronomically and the portions have gotten smaller and that is a major turnoff especially when your loyal clientele are getting the brunt of the shortfalls. We will always come back but value right now can be achieved easily for both the restaurant and the guests. Sorry to be critical but sometimes the vacuum does not allow management to realize that when even one regular feels this them most of them do, but they just won't say anything.

We just love El Mariachi. It's a lovely restaurant with terrific service. Thank you, Judy! Which just leads me to the delicious food. Tonight we enjoyed the Gambas, the Norteno fajitas and the always wonderful Lomo Saltado. You should go. It's terrific.

I've eaten here a handful of times and have never been disappointed in the food. This visit, I came during lunch and the service was slightly slow. It seems they only had one server running all the tables. Came right at noon and it wasn't busy. We got seated right away. We ordered the combination chicken & steak fajitas, chicken quesadilla from the appetizer menu, a strawberry frozen margarita, and a mango margarita on the rocks. Everything was delicious!

Excellent food! The steak was well-flavored, tender, and juicy. Attentive server. The ambiance is quite bright, authentic, and cheery as well! I'll definitely return! (11/7/24)

An easy 5 stars! The service that we had at El Mariachi is the best service I have had in all of 2021! They brought us everything we needed (drinks, chips, our food, and the check) so fast and they were very busy that night. I ordered the chicken fajitas, it was so good. Very fresh and came out steaming hot. We also got a strawberry margarita 1/2 pitcher. It was nice that they have options to order sharable portions. Such a well run establishment!

The food here did not taste good. It's very mediocre and bland. For a Hispanic restaurant it doesn't have any authentic flavors and use a lot of American basic ingredients. Like the rice tasted like it came out of a microwave bag of uncle Ben's rice and the cheese tasted like Kraft cheese slices. The inside is nice and the people were kind. The margarita was delicious but other than that the food might look appealing but not worth the price. If you don't like you food seasoned or spicy this would be a good option but it's also kind of pricey. Check out mama pupuseria next door if you want some really good Hispanic food!

Chicken enchilada with out of this world delicious Mole sauce

I am here, enjoying a good strawberry margarita on the rocks with salt and the most delicious chicken enchiladas with Mole sauce!! Now MOLE sauce has chocolate in it, but it's not what you think . It's incredibly delectable! But beware it's addicting !! And the staff is super friendly and amazing and it's a very quaint restaurant

Nice quiet dinner in a local "hole-in-the-wall" favorite. I would characterize the menu as Latin fusion rather than Mexican (despite the chips and salsa to start)! Service was stellar - they didn't hover but kept our glasses full and ensured we had everything we needed.

Hot toddy - waiter recommended, it's hot and has honey lemon taste like a tea but the alcohol is also a bit strong 2/5 Pineapple margarita - very very strong almost like straight alcohol lol 1/5 Red sangria - super well balanced and fruity! Very yummy 4/5 White sangria - a little bit sharper alcohol flavor and less well balanced but still good 3/5 Embutido Combo - Jamon Serrano, Salchichon de Vic, Chorizo Iberico - I'm not sure which is which so going by the picture left to right. A little spicy, overall good quality but I do think they put a bit too much oil which made it have an extra oil taste 2.5/5 Middle - like prosciutto this is the best one! Not dry at all in any area and not too salty 3.75/5 Right - least favorite but it is still good overall. Taste a little less yummy than the one on the right even though the one on the right is too oily 2/5 Queso Mahon - rich and cheesy. Not too sticky and very soft. I like the little fruit it comes with too 3/5 Seared scallop - usually squid in rice I feel like is just color but this one was super savory and delicious with a unique taste too that I'm thinking must be from the ink! It's made super well and the crispy sear on the scallop adds so much flavor but also the scallop was not overcooked at all, super bouncy and tender. 4.5/5 Spanish risotto - very moist and yummy! Even though it's just vegetables it's made well 3.75/5 Crispy pork belly - falls apart and very tender. Not dry at all! Unfortunately too salty though. Also very heavy. Meat too salty but veggies it came with like potato that soaks up the flavor was like inedible too salty 2/5 Seafood paella - I think it came out a bit faster than 40 minutes but I didn't keep track. Large serving size! Wish there was more seafood but lots of rice! Very moist and flavorful rice, seafood flavor comes through too! Wish they cooked it longer though since bottom is not crispy at all. Shrimp is overcooked unfortunately but individually seasoned. All the squids and octopus don't have much flavor but cooked well and not chewy at all. Mussels were good too but had some weird webbing on some pieces that made me not want to eat it and size is a bit small. Needs more seafood to balance the rice amount 4.25/5 Crimini mushroom - weird with the poached egg especially since there's a bunch of mushroom liquid below that I think would mix weirdly together. But ignoring that, the mushrooms themselves were very flavorful and actually taste really great with paella! 3.75/5 Basque cheesecake - very heavy and dense. Jam is not too sweet which is nice 1.5/5 Churros - very airy and light inside! The fried part is more than double the inside though so wish that was a little less thick so it can be a little less oily but still overall light. Came very warm and the dipping sauces were very liquidy. Chocolate is on the darker side which is a nice match 3/5

After having a full meal with cocktails, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee (about $70 per person), I concluded that Atxondo will be a definite future destination for Happy Hour and light bites, but that my full meal dining dollars will be spent elsewhere. The Patatas Bravas (Fingerling Potatoes) were outstanding, with their two tasty sauces and rich, crispy flavor and texture. The Hibiscus Margarita with its salt and tajín rim was good enough to warrant a second one... but the Sangria was lackluster due to the complete absence of cut-up fresh fruit in my glass. The "Crispy Duck Breast" is no longer served whole, but sliced on a bed of sauteed kale... and, sadly, seemed to be only a shadow of its former self. The Lamb Meatballs suffered from being mushy (a coarser grind would have made a world of difference in the texture) and lacked that meaty exuberance one treasures in any kind of meatball. My serving of Basque Cheesecake was almost comically tiny (at $9 per serving, perhaps not so funny after all). But my cup of Americano came out of the espresso machine strapping strong and piping hot, with a gorgeous head of natural crema from the oil of the coffee beans. So I will definitely return for a future Happy Hour to devour the outstanding Patatas Bravas and sip the good Margaritas, and to try the bargain Manchego Burger and other Happy Hour bites. For serious dining, Atxondo falls short of the mark... but for drinks and bar food, Atxondo turns out to be a real neighborhood gem. .

Cava Mezze had some of the best customer service I'd ever experienced. The staff was so attentive--everyone from my server to the manager. Any member of the staff that simply passed my table made sure to ask me if I was enjoying my food or give me an update on the status of my food. My server also made sure to inform me about the restaurant's cuisine and menu before I ordered. As a solo diner, she made recommendations about what may be best since I wouldn't be sharing the small plates with a party. As for the food, I ordered the saganaki and grilled octopus. The restaurant also provided complimentary pita and harissa. The pita came out warm and the harissa was actually one of my favorite parts of the meal. The saganaki was good, but was ultimately just warm cheese; So as a solo diner, the $16 cost wasn't worth it to me. If dining alone, I probably would spend my money on a more unique appetizer like the hush puppies or mezze tasting. The elements of the grilled octopus were good, but felt like they were slightly off or missing something when paired all together. The grilled squid was tasty (well seasoned and smokey), but had a few too many burnt pieces for my preference and was /slightly/ tough. I still really enjoyed the flavor of it though. The fava puree was sooo good! Again, it had a great, slightly salty flavor that I really enjoyed. I think it was perhaps the brininess of the capers that threw off the flavors off, but the dish felt 100% more balanced once I mixed in some of the complimentary harissa! I really enjoyed my time at Cava Mezze and am excited to return to try more items from their menu. This restaurant is solo-date approved!
