The food and service here is always really good. I typically get the street tacos and while they might be a little on the pricey side they do give you a lot of meat so imo that's fair. Looking to try some Mexican food while here visiting to see how it compares to Mexican food in Los Angeles. Decided to give Taqueria El Comal, a bit of a mixed review for me. Starting off with the place itself and the staff. Outside as you walk up has a great outdoor patio area, lots of seating and a fire pit, pretty nice option for outdoor seating. I like the Dia De Los Muertos guy in the front as well. I did not get photos of the patio since I could only have 20 pics, but it is a very nice setup. Inside, the staff was friendly as we walked in, our server was very nice as well, made sure our drinks stayed full and checked in on us often. The restaurant itself is large, plenty of seating all around and has a nice big bar as well. Even has a white mini grand piano in the bar area. Decor is vibrant and very clean inside. Now to the food and here is where I have mixed feelings. I really liked all the salsas as well as the habanero salad, super tasty and a good spice level as well, which is sometimes hard to find when I visit. The chips were on point as well. My rice and beans I also enjoyed. Where I was let down a bit was the chicken taco, taste was decent, but in the dryer side, but I liked it. My disappointment was in the beef tacos, first it was ground beef, not what I am used to in a taco from authentic Mexican food, normally shredded, but that was not the issue, the meat itself had a very odd taste, actually kind of like soy beef or somehow a bit off, flavor of the meat spoiled the taco for me. All in all I give the place 5 stars for the outside area, the staff, interior and bar was nice. Chips and all the salsa, rice and beans as well. 4 stars for the chicken taco, good not great. 2 stars and being generous on the beef tacos though, those need a lot of work. So I averaged it to 4 stars overall, I debating between 3-4, but the rest made me go higher. I would come back again for sure, I would just avoid the beef tacos IMO. They have a ton of stuff on the menu, thus my pics, so I am sure I would find a better choice. Enjoy! read more

We have been here for take out about 3 times and we love love the tacos and salsa. Although they are pricier than other places they are good potions and on the bright side even on their taco Tuesday they still serve well. Yesterday we wanted to try something else, so we ordered nachos al carbón but we those were a disappoint. Very soggy, and did not have any flavor at all. This was by far the worst experience I have had. I am now at 3 hours and 15 minutes and still no check. I am very flexible. I waited tables for years and it is cinco de mayo but everything that could fail, did. I love their Birrias specially, but everything there is delicious and packed with flavor. Their salsa verde is also delicious and not overly spicy. I was excited to try a new restaurant and I so wanted to like this place. It's in a lovely open air shopping area .. bridge water falls. I really wanted to love this place and find a new favorite. I'd never been or heard of this shopping center and it seemed really nice. The Mexican restaurant was large and nicely decorated. Outdoor seat available and free parking. It looked clean and new. Service was spot on. We were seated immediately.. not many other customers. Our server introduced self took drink order and also brought our complimentary salsa and chips. Eeeeee that was the first negative..the salsa was watery and little to no flavor. In all fairness I have issues with meat .. white meat chicken and seafood are my only options. I know that I'm not the norm on that. Ordered queso to go with the chips since the salsa was flavorless. The queso was a white cheese sauce with wasnt even warm. I had a medical appt so no margarita... the meal might have been better after a couple strong margaritas. But ordered chicken enchilada and chili relleno. They both were disappointing. The relleno.. was expect it to be filled with cheesy goodness. It was spinach.. no cheese taste at all .. there was some white flavorless stuff hidden by the spinach. Would never order that again my husband agreed that was not good. I tried the enchilada.. then asked him if he wanted it. So I just ate the rice and cold queso with chips. It feels like the local Mexican food market is pretty saturated in this area so what stands out in a review is why come here over several others. Service was great, frequent checkins and staying on top of refills. Chips and salsa is usually std at places as it is here but the spicy version my husband gets was really great and had an extra spicy avocado salsa added. Food was great. We had chicken chimichanga and a big bowl thing that was huge. Photo added. My only issue is the music. It was current instead of old times Spanish music but it was loud rap that gave me a headache. Don't get me wrong I love rap but I love a conversation with who I'm with and it was super hard to hear. Maybe tone the music down to soft Mexican music. Place is spacious and great for parties. Parking was not awesome. It's in the back of bridgewater. This spot is tough to fill so I hope they last. I will keep them in my rotation for takeout. read more

I'm his used one o be one of the best hidden secrets in town. Then they sold it and it wasn't as good but not bad, still a hidden gem. As the main guys pull away and especially since they added the rude prejudice waitress/cashier it's has gone to crap. Food is mediocre at best and if you go on taco Tuesday be prepared to get watered down sauce and if you ask for more than they think you need they not only get disgustingly rude but will extremely over charge or just refuse. I used to go 3-4 days a week. I now maybe try to go 1-2 a week, but it's been disappointing to be nice. I won't go back. You'll be much much happier if you want tacos or burritos to go get o the orange stand on central ave or for other food choose any Mexican place but there. Very sad. read more

Margarita really hit the spot, not too strong, and not all watered down. Got the Seafood Diablo (Seafood Devil), a good SPICY dish. Not something I would normally order, but thought I would give it a try. Overall a good dish, however I did remove most of the onions. Visiting in Ohio on our way home to Kentucky and decided to visit with all the good reviews. We were seated very fast then left for 34 minutes with nothing not even drinks. While walking out after not being served tables that were dirty when walking in were now cleaned with new guests with drinks and salsa. Ridiculous and unexceptable. read more

would not recommend. our credit card was hacked after paying for our meal here. several fraudulent charges appeared on our account a few days later. this is the only place we used that particular card and luckily the credit union noticed and notified us. we had to lock that account and cancel that card. it was sad because we were there after my brother in law's funeral to have dinner and drinks with family. our meal and drinks were over $200, we gave a $40 tip and then someone there hacks our card. food was not all that great, average at best. not cool. will never return here again. read more
