Saw great reviews for the Stone Tavern, so my wife and I decided to give it a shot while we were nearby. First the good. The place is cute. Fun looking building with a mini parking lot or on street parking. Small set of outdoor tables, but we chose to eat inside. The staff was super friendly and despite what I read about needing to order at the bar, Jason came right to our table and he was GREAT! He recommended the fish and chips and the shepherd pie. We had those and the Hanky Pankys as an appetizer. First watch out: English pub that only had American domestics and Guinness on tap...the only local brew was out of service. Oh well, we adapted. On to the food... We enjoyed the appetizers. They reminded my wife of something her mom had made when she was growing up. For me, they could have used more cheese. We then had the entrees the shepherd pie was a great presentation, but a bit greasy and the ground beef was not the shredded rib I read about in the reviews. I checked and the menu did say ground beef. My bad. It was 3 out is five at best. The onion rings I got as my side were fantastic!!! Next was the fish and chips. The menu stated " half pound of cod in flaky IPA batter fried golden brown served with steak fries". If you look at other pics of this in their previous Yelp reviews - that seemed to be what they served. Instead I paid $19 for something from GFS or Trader Joe's. See my pic. Not great and thus the drop in stars. Net service GREAT! Food meh. Might stop in again if in the area for a drink because it seems like a good neighborhood bar.

It's a British pub. Hamilton Ohio has a British pub and it's cracking good! It's cheery and brand spanking new inside. Very clean. We came Saturday around 2PM and the food was so delicious, I stopped in again today for takeout (or takeaway as they say across the pond). So we've had occasion to try five menu items. The owner is Jim and he was around both days. Very welcoming to the customers and eager to please. I think he must be an expat Brit. Just one barmaid/server who was Alex, and she kept up pretty well with handling the tables too. All the tables have number signs and I think the true pub tradition is to go to the bar, tell your table number and order, and then they bring it, though this was not enforced. The kitchen staff brought the meals. And that food! hot, fresh made with obviously top quality ingredients. Herbed chicken was super flavorful and a very generous portion of meat. Bangers and Mash were exactly as they should be, a savory dish to which I added a dash of HP Sauce. Garlic mashed potatoes had just the right amount of garlic and a great consistency. Shepherd Stones almost like little meat pies, hearty and satisfying. The Reuben was incredibly delicious on the wonderful marble rye. And those fries....think of the best steak fries you ever had then kick it up a notch. The grand finale is of course the butter cake which melts in your mouth in an explosion of sweet flavor. Oh my Lord, it was out of this world. The bill shows you clearly the cash vs. credit price and I like that. There is a good amount of street parking and a parking lot, and ramp to a side entrance accessible to the physically challenged. That entrance takes you to a side room suitable for a large group. I love the look of the outside of this establishment too. It really is a stone tavern. They've got Guinness on tap along with several other selections and quite a variety of beer in the cooler too, including Harp and Red Stripe, plus a nice wine list. My husband had a glass of red that Jim recommended and he said it was great. And a nice pour too. They are open every day from 11 am. Highly recommended!

Stopped in here today for the first time and they did absolutely everything right. It appeared there was just one person working the bar and the tables surrounding the bar and that person was Jennifer. Jennifer did a great job waiting on us and everybody else and didn't appear to get rattled by anything. My friend ordered a beer and I ordered a cocktail and then we placed our order for food. We did sit at the bar. My friend ordered the fish and chips along with a salad and I ordered the Reuben Stones appetizer and a cup of the soup of the day which was a three cheese broccoli and chicken. Everything we ate was good and I would so get that soup again! We had another cocktail and then I ordered dessert which was a warm brown butter cake with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Jennifer also made me a fresh pot of coffee and I had a coffee with cream to go along with the dessert. I am going to say that was the best butter cake I have ever had. When we go back, and we're going back, I will definitely order dessert again. Don't wait y'all get out there and give this new place a try!

Cool place. Cool service. Good food. KBBA on tap. What more can you want?…read more I had the fish and chips. They use haddock, which is nice. The breading is yummy, and thin- not obnoxious. 9/10 as far as fish and chips go... lets face it, fish and chips is a 5/10 food, but this is really good fish and chips. Here's where it gets good. My friend ordered shepherds pie. I've had no interest in shepherds pie since the first time I tried it, but when they brought it out, it looked delicious, so I had to ask for a bite... and another one... and another one. She couldn't eat the whole thing, so we got a to-go box... which I stole and ate her leftovers, because this was a stonking good shepherds pie. So yeah.... had an outstanding serving of a mediocre food, and discovered that the first time I had shepherd's pie, it was garbage. Fun place, good food. I'll be back.

I looked at the…read morebusiness hours of according to the hours posted on yelp so I made it a point to be there at or after 11 AM. The place was busy as heck and it was a little challenging to find parking because it's part of a strip mall and other restaurants on the strip. Also need places for their customers to park. I found out when I got there that it turns out for St. Patrick's Day specifically they open at 8 AM instead of the normal 11 AM. Consequently, the entire restaurant was full, all seats were taken, even at the bar. And because they had Entertainment, starting at 9 AM. They started charging a five dollar cover charge. Not really a big deal when you consider they had a couple bins of live entertainment as well as a DJ who serviced the outdoor seating area later in the afternoon. At the entry table there were a couple T-shirt designs for sale at $20 each as well as free bead, necklaces, gold or green. I was told that at the very beginning at opening they also had little green hats, but I was too late for them. Browse around, everyone was having fun, talking and music was pretty loud, but it was a fun vibe. Eventually, I found a single little table in the outdoor seating area. It's included in some sort of Long tent assembly, which I think is a metal frame covered by a tarp or what almost looks like denim material. When you look across the bottom of the material all the way around the perimeter, you can see the wind blowing in there underneath. In the outdoor exterior seating portion, there were four of those tall large heating elements, but even though I was merely two or 3 feet away from one I only got a little bit of the heat from where I was seated. It was welcome, for sure, but wish I were warmer. Lol. Coincidentally, I also made the mistake of only come in with a hoodie. Again, I thought or assumed they were opening at 11 AM so I thought I'd easily find a spot inside. Also coincidentally it was cold as heck, so cold that sometimes when I talked, my teeth were chattering, and I could see my breath as I spoke The waitresses were great, and the ambience was pretty cool. They had a special St. Patrick's Day menu and from the drink menu, I ordered an Irish coffee, and part to stay warm, and something that was a 50/50 combination of two types of Guinness beer. The game plan to have a hot beverage along with a beer seemed like a good idea initially but then sometime during the meal I switched it so I was drinking the beer, faster than I was the Irish coffee, so the plan backfired when the Irish coffee soon cooled off. Lots of awesome stuff on the menu. I think a little of the pricey side, but I can look past that if I go for a special occasion. Although I wanted to order most everything on the menu, I ended up getting Irish eggrolls (I'm told it's hot seller), and corn, beef and cabbage (you know, because the St. Patrick's Day) both were delicious. I always trim off the pieces of fat off the outside of the slices of corned beef, which I must say were extremely lean, which I appreciate. The cabbage was delicious and I wish there was a lot more with it. And if I'm not mistaken, there was mashed potatoes along with it. Kind of shaped like an upside down bowl like they do in Asian restaurants. It had a delicious, homemade horseradish sauce, and I had to order an extra little cup of it on the side, so I had enough. The Irish eggrolls were delicious and kind of reminded me of a Reuben sandwich, just in eggroll form. The waitresses looked great in there uniforms and were real troopers considering how freaking cold the weather was. If I remember, one of them was wearing jean pants, while another was wearing warm leggings. Bad props to them for braving the weather to serve us people in the outdoor seating area. We appreciate you and your hard work! While seated outdoors, a woman came around and they were doing some kind of drawing that you could participate in. Something like, "win the pot ". Restrooms were fine. I can only speak for the men's room obviously since I went solo. Overall, a fun time. Live entertainment. I think they were supposed to be dancing girls, but I didn't see any. I think it was when I was focused on eating and staying warm. I did manage to catch a guy doing bagpipes though. That was cool. I don't know if she worked for the restaurant/pub, but there was a woman going around offering these little adjustable rings to all the women around the restaurant. That was a cool touch. They look like little gemstones. A definite recommend!

Our server, McKenna, took great care of us the whole evening. She was friendly, engaging, accommodating, and just did an overall great job. Pro tip, go during happy hour for great prices on appetizers and drinks. The appetizer pricing was so good we were able to order more than planned. We got the duck fat fries, brussels sprouts, and buffalo chicken. The duck fat fries came with a delicious garlic aïoli. The brussels sprouts were just perfect. And the buffalo chicken with some of the best I've had in a long time. I had never had cock-a-leekie before, so I tried that too. It was a nice, warm, comfort food. For our entrées, several of us got fish and shrimp. It was delicious and the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce sauces were perfect. The highlighter of the evening for me was my mocktail. I noticed the drink menu had a cucumber elderberry drink, but I do not drink alcohol, so I ask if they would be willing to make something like it as a mocktail. It was genuinely one of the best mock tails I've ever had. It was so good. I asked if the bartender would mind sharing what she did so I could make some version of it at home. She happily obliged and wrote it down for me. Overall, a wonderful experience that will definitely have me recommending Nicholsons to friends and family!

We started with the sourdough bread that came with treacle and honey butter which I thought would be more remarkable, if pretty much tasted like run of the mill butter.
