1st time here, & sorry to say my last. i ordered a "molcajete" which typically is a signature dish. {chicken & beff}. i expected a great meal, yet the sauce was the only thing good, i assumed it to be freshly cooked meat and grilled vegetables, yet the vegs were raw, (red -green bell pepper, green onions slightly blanched) the beff & chicken slices, as were, bone dry in a wet sauce. you can only imagine how it tasted. the only thing about the meal that was good is the sauce. basically the cook is absolutely lazy & lacks inspiration & or kitchen edict. in entirety the cook gets an "f" . i would never refer anyone to this place to eat. read more

I love their grilled chicken! I always crave it. I usually just order that with a side of rice and beans and I'm set! I've also had their sizzling fajita platter w/ shrimp and steak before and that was great as well. Their chips and salsa bar is a yummy bonus too. I've never really liked their burritos, mainly because they put way too many beans in it but, even without the beans, I like the burritos from the taco trucks better. I don't know how this place does not have a five star review, Modesto Yelpers are clearly not in the know! This has been a staple in my diet for almost 10 years, since I went to Roosevelt Junior High. They have an amazing salsa bar, and you get free chips with any order. Taqueria Los Compadres makes the best burrito you will ever have in your life, some mean fajitas, and great tacos too. It honestly rivals most Mexican places I've been too- even my boyfriend comes from the bay area just to get his hands on one of their burritos. They make what I think of as "true" Mexican food, and are a steal in terms of prices. Honestly, the next best, and only cheaper Mexican food would be from a taco truck. This place is a local favorite for lunch and dinner 7 days a week, and you don't know how truly incredible their food is until you move out of Modesto and have to settle for crappy Text Mex :(. read more

I started going to this Taqueria when they were still Taqueria LOS Compadre. I guess they lost a Compadre somewhere along the lines, but the food has certainly NOT suffered. They are reasonably priced, the employees remember you after a couple times in, and they always have fresh chips and salsa. They don't have a true guacamole (their only downside), though their own chilled green salsa dip is so good! If it says Diablo, expect it to be really hot! My dad likes to say that the Diablo sauce makes his scalp tingle. read more

Not a fan. Went twice to this place to make sure my review was fair. First time I got a Carne asada burrito and my meat was dry, had to add a good amount of salsa to make it edible. Second time I went I got the enchilada plate and again I was let down. The red sauce was nasty & more hard tortilla than chicken. Went here for a simple shrimp cocktail and it was so shitty, the juice has tons of cilantro, I specifically told them I was allergic, I wanted a refund and to go but they didn't let us. We go to this restaurant most of the time when we want Mexican food. My other half loves the carnitas burrito. It has too much meat in it for my taste although this isn't a problem with most people? Great chips (most of the time) and I love their salsa bar. It gets really crowded at lunch and on Saturday and Sunday so go a little early or late to find a table. After several inconsistent tries, I've given up on this place. The food is cheap, but it's hit or miss. They people taking your orders are hit or miss as well. There's a young guy who is fantastic and gets my order every time, and then there's a shorter older lady who kept messing up my order and most recently copped an attitude after messing up my order. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon. Living in Modesto which is filled with great Mexican spots, I was ready to try something new. When I arrived, around 4:00pm, there was only 3 other people in the restaurant. I ordered a veggie burrito without cheese or sourcream (Veganish). The burrito came out in like 5 minutes. When I went in to take a bite of the burrito, I was pleasantly surprised. Veggie burritos usually come with just beans, rice, some iceburg lettuce and some weak pico de gallo. Surprisingly, This burrito came with grilled veggies (bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and zucchini). It was awesome! The burrito was a good 10 inches long and 6 inches in diameter. I was satisfied. Customer service was top notch and their salsa bar had great options. This spot will be a Modesto Regular for sure. read more

Yum, yum, yum! I've tried Chimichanga, burritos, nachos, and several other things. Every item is delicious! And large! I always take half home for dinner. We must have first gone with friends from church after church, and it's been a special place ever since! I've always gotten exactly what I asked for in a reasonable amount of time, no matter how completely crowded they were(especially after church!). My daughter once went with a small group, and somehow something went wrong, where she (a teen) didn't think someone paid for an item correctly. When I went and explained to staff that I was worried something had not been paid for, and I wanted to pay, they took full responsibility and would not let me pay. How gracious! The self serve condiments and drinks are always clean and fresh! The ambiance is nice, with enough seating, but spacious, so we don't feel like we are stacked on top of other guests at all. There is plenty of light, and comfortable seating. The staff is nice. The food is good. I love it! read more

One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a Restuarant. To start, the younger man that took my order seemed to be more concerned with how he looked than providing any amount of quality service, or even common decency. He acted as if I was bothering him. After taking my money he just yelled "Next!" The problem I had was a common one. how they tried to solve it was the real downer. I ordered chili Colorado, They gave me a chimichanga. The chimichanga looked like a fine choice but I had my heart set on meat and red sauce. When I told them about the issue they took my plate, dumped the chimi in the trash and slapped some red sauce on the plate and handed it back to me dripping (on the outside of the to go container )with sauce. I brought the new issue to their attention, they looked at the plate and said "que?" No apology, which is ok but the attitude was very rude . They took the plate back and wiped it off with a nasty dirty rag and handed it back to me. The experience continued to get worse. I'm bordering on TLDR, so to be short, try any other Mexican joint, you'd be happier. read more

Not the best Mexican place! I ordered the carne asada fries, it was listed as the chefs special on the board. The ingredients were listed but it didnt mention the type of cheese. I was really disappointed when the fries came with melted Monterey Jack cheese instead of nacho cheese. The chips had a bad taste like they used the oil for something else besides the chips. we have gone here for years but more out of hunger while shopping than anything. being and coming from a large Mexican family this place is sooo below avg it isn't even funny. This last time Nov 14,2015 we noticed that they now CHARGE .75 CENTS TO USE YOUR DEBT CARD !!!!! This place is more for college kids and non Hispanics who don't know any better. we will NEVER come here again ...you would be better off at taco bell, at least there you know to keep your expectations low. this place is a damn shame and disappointment. read more

Coming into eating here, I had high expectations from family who hyped it up. The food and service was slightly above average but the price we paid for it was disappointing. My girlfriend ordered the regular nachos and it was mainly chips and small amounts of guacamole and sour cream. My super burrito was flavorful but not mixed well. There are definitely better taquerias in town but the overall experience was quite average. read more

This place is great if you are hungry for Mexican. Its fast with a full salsa bar and the staff is always nice. This is the best of the three Los Comradres restaurants that they have. The worst by far is the one in Riverbank. If you have two kids order the wet burrito with red sauce and split it in two on separate plates. I love nachos and they aren't to bad. The guacamole salsa is glorious. Delicious grilled chicken, and their carnitas are to die for. The line can be a bit ridiculous, but only on Sunday after church. I can't say much for their menu in general, because I always order the same thing (best vegetarian burrito I've ever tasted). The salsa bar is both diverse and flavorful.
