I have never been more disappointed in a meal than the one I had tonight. We waited forever for our food. Three people that came in after us got their food before us. When we finally pointed this out suddenly magically our nachos appeared. The nachos were cold and the cheese was hard. When the rest of food arrived it was all lukewarm. The tortilla soup had no flavor. It's been awhile since we've been here and it has always been good but tonight was a total waste of $54.00!! I'll take San Jose Taqueria or Mis Compadres any day. I came here because someone was taking me out to lunch and he loves this place. I came here and ordered the nachos and the lady behind the counter recommended the grilled chicken to me. Honestly, I was surprised with how delicious the grilled chicken was and the service was good. The salsa bar is what I would expect from a salsa bar but I like how the service was fast and they gave me a hefty portion of chicken on my nachos. I thought it was good and would come back and try their chicken taco salad too since people recommended it to me. This place gets busy during lunchtime. read more

First of all let me say that I have been eating here for over 15yrs although due to the pandemic I have not been here in a year and a half until today... I called and order my favorite dish grilled grilled white fish tacos, they were one of the few places that didn't use breaded white fish, well NOT anymore not only is it breaded but it looks like fish sticks cut up and only maybe 4 tiny pieces on each taco, and they had so much breading on them I could not see the fish, I am so disappointed and I don't believe the pandemic has anything to do with it just being cheap, white fish frozen is probably cheaper than fish sticks!! They were known for their grilled white fish tacos, all of my friends ate there to . I will not ever go there to eat again unless they go back to just plain grilled white fish...I'm sure they don't care what I think, but I sent a lot of business there. Haven't been to this restaurant in years and went on my lunch break today to try out the low carb options they have. I ordered the low carb chicken filet and Salad to-go, got back to work and realized there was no salad dressing, skipped that and I ate a piece of chewy like chicken, So i cut the filet in half and it was still RAW! Couldn't go back because I didn't have another lunch break. Starved all day till I left work at 730 at night! Food was really bad, I got asada and al pastor tacos and both meats where really salty and to top it off they where cold and the tortillas where soggy. I made an order to pick up at 12 pm and I received a message at 11:15 that my food was ready. Horrible place will not be returning. read more

We have been going to TLC for over 15 years. The last couple of months the food has been very disappointing-- especially take out. This is the third time they've screwed up our take out order. The meal I got was ice cold. The enchilada tortilla was hard as a rock and I didn't finish the meal. Not sure if it's new owner or cook but we will be looking for somewhere else to go read more

I eat here a lot since we live in the neighborhood. The place is always clean, friendly and service is fast. I love their burritos. The vegetarian burrito includes a nice combination of grilled veggies. Beans and rice are portioned evenly. The grilled chicken is by far the best I have had in Modesto area. I've had a few plate items before and they were good, but because the burritos are tastier I stick with them. Great place salsa bar that is always clean and fresh. My husband and I just went for the first time.For $9.75 I ordered the Chile rellano and beef enchilada combo. First, the rellano had very little cheese in it, very little sauce on top ,and it was flavorless!!! The enchilada was completely dry inside with just a splash of sauce on top, soooo disappointing!....The refried beans tasted like they were from a can, and the rice was average! My husband ordered the carne asada super nacho. For $7.50, it was overpriced....very small and very stingy on their toppings! The Carne Asada was very Flavorful though! We chose this taqueria because it's always busy and we thought for sure it must be Bueno! The menu is very pricy for a mediocre restaurant where you don't have table service, but certainly pay as though you did! I like this place, we eat here a lot! The prices are decent and the salsa bar is great. For vegans like myself try a taco salad minus the meat and dairy with whole beans - the refried has lard. The tostada (again minus the animal bits) is good. The guacamole is vegan safe as well as the rice. Check your order, I have had a few mishaps. My boyfriend (the meat eater) says that the carne asada sometimes tastes reheated. Sometimes the food is a bit greasy but he says it is a bonus! Gets packed during lunch time and some nights. I am a first timer here and I must admit this taqueria is a diamond in the rough, a pearl out of a thousand oysters. I am so pleased I found it on Yelp. The food is so fresh and tastes authentic. I ordered a torta with al pastor and they cooked it up fresh. I asked to add a shmear of beans and it was not a problem. As I was eating and savoring every bite I noticed a cheese skirt all around the toasted bread. Now I've had a cheese skirt on burgers but never on a torta. Who does that? It was spectacular! Also ordered was a chile verde wet burrito that tastes super fresh and had no hints of being from a can whatsoever. Fresh and definitely homemade with love. Last, we shared an order of taquitos. Usually restaurants have them pre-made with cheap meat like chicken or shredded beef. Not here. I asked for al pastor and they made each one fresh right in front of me. Those tasted bomb! Beans were great and the rice was so flavorful. It had mucho garlic in it just how I love rice. I would definitely return; in fact I would make a trip of about 50 miles one way just to eat here again. It's just that good! What a great find. read more

Aww...Ruben, you beat me to it! Anyway...just call this an extension of my review of Taqueria Los Compadre in Riverbank. El Compadre is one of Los' sister restaurants and therefore, just as BOMB! I have worked downtown since January 2006, which makes me just less than a mile or...6 short blocks away from my little taste of Mexico. You really can't go wrong with their menu, and their prices are extremely affordable. I am addicted to quesadilla personally (always have been) so I usually opt for one of those but let me just say that you are truly missing out if you haven't tried their grilled chicken! It is so mouthwatering and delicious. I suggest also trying it on their chicken salad, or in a super burrito. I usually place my order by phone during lunch hours because nine times out of ten, there is a line to the door from noon to 1. And there is a young guy there that has been working there since my days (should I say) years at MJC, which is also right around the corner...he is the nicest guy! Oh, and I noticed a letter from the city of Modesto and the department of Alcohol and Tobacco, posted up on their beverage cooler Congratulating them on carding their underage decoy recently. I'm not big on taquerias because when I dine out, I want to be wined and dined with a full service wait staff (who do I think I am, Mariah Carey?!) but my sister in law loves this place so I had to give it a try. Very decent prices, an amazing salsa bar (chunky salsa, green salsa, hot salsa, mild salsa) and a really good Cocktail de Camarones (Shrimp cocktail) last week I tried their fajitas and they were just as delish!! This place is my go-to for Mexican food! All the staff is really friendly and get your order out quickly. My fam is thrilled over the salsa bar + complimentary chips. The wet burrito (burrito mojado) with the red sauce is what I always order because I'm in love with it. It's always very clean when I go there, bathroom included. Really glad to see this place hasn't changed at all since I moved away - still one of the best stops on the way into Modesto. They have a big variety of dishes, served combo style or ala carte, the wet burritos in particular are drenched in awesome. I used to come here almost every week for fajitas, and even though I've branched out and had everything on the menu, I love it all, never had a bad meal here. Even the chips are always fresh and crisp, and with a half-dozen salsas to choose from everyone can enjoy. The only service they have is bringing your plate when it's ready, but the food makes up for all of it. No matter what you like, it's bound to be on the menu, and it'll be one of the best simple meals you've had. Like I said, the fajitas are incredible, the magnum opus, definitely check those out, but everything is worth a shot. read more

Went last night ordered a couple wet burritos. Chile Verde and pastor. Cost over $19. Both were ok but for 19 dollars it should be great . The salsa bar was the best part of our dinner. Love the guacamole and all there salsas. I don't think I'll be eating here again there's too many better options for alot cheaper. If I come back I will get the chicken burrito. I work for a large company down town Modesto, went here for lunch today, and all the tables were DIRTY...I ordered to go, my friends wanted to stay...So we had to bus our own table (including using the gross wet towel laid on another table. Anyways...right before I left the bus girl came up and scolded me for having a ''To-Go" cup and that they are only for take-out dinners! Never left a bad review anywhere, but this has gotten ridiculous. I absolutely love their chicken super quesadilla...when it's made correctly. I order for delivery and ask for their salsa and guacamole to be left out because of my food allergies and I get that mistakes happen but since the new year, most of my orders have either been partially wrong or completely wrong. The last time I ordered here they gave me a shrimp quesadilla instead of chicken, a pork dish instead of the green enchiladas, and only the drink was correct. Today, my order was incorrect and they didn't include the drink. Sometimes there's a good amount of meat in the quesadillas while sometimes there's hardly anything but a tortilla with the smallest amount of cheese and barely any chicken. I really don't like complaining because their food is absolutely delicious (cannot emphasize that enough), but the inconsistency and lack of care put in to their orders for the last few months is disappointing and has left my family and I searching for better options. read more

I recently visited this establishment after reading so many positive reviews on here. Upon walking in the entire building was filled with smoke and grease smell. I guess it didnt click for their employee not to have their oil too high or to open the doors. My husband went to get us some salsa so im not sure what the options were but the salsa he brought back were fantastic. Had a kick compared to other places where tomato over powers. I ordered a burrito when it arrived i was shocked to see it so thin. Anyone who ever gets super burritos knows they are huge and filled to the brim with filling. I got a combo chile relleno and beef enchilada, and it was possibly the worst enchilada I have ever had. It had...beef and only beef. No cheese, no sauce. Very bland. And...get this...even if you buy a complete dinner, YOU HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR THE TORTILLAS! What Mexican place does that? 1st time here, & sorry to say my last. i ordered a "molcajete" which typically is a signature dish. {chicken & beff}. i expected a great meal, yet the sauce was the only thing good, i assumed it to be freshly cooked meat and grilled vegetables, yet the vegs were raw, (red -green bell pepper, green onions slightly blanched) the beff & chicken slices, as were, bone dry in a wet sauce. you can only imagine how it tasted. the only thing about the meal that was good is the sauce. basically the cook is absolutely lazy & lacks inspiration & or kitchen edict. in entirety the cook gets an "f" . i would never refer anyone to this place to eat. read more
