We were in the area for something else. Looked up on GoogleMaps and found three Mexican restaurants in the area. Taqueria El Sol was rated at 4.4, higher than the others. Came in, and noticed it's just a quant little place with a few booths and couple of tables. If they are ever packed you are taking it to go. So, the lady greeted us and took our order (got a booth). Brought us chips and green salsa, which were delicious. I tend to judge Mexican restaurants by their chips. She brought our food...and it was hot! I remembered as we walked in, she was handing a To Go bag to someone and she was telling them, "it's hot" as the guest wanted to grab from the bottom. As I put the chicken enchilada in my mouth...dang, it WAS hot. Which is great. Many places you will get food and it's just slightly warmer than warm. Chicken was moist, and tortillas used were fresh. Topped with the all the toppings made it even more delicious, not just plain enchiladas. Wife had some tacos and she said the same thing about the tortillas. Overall, this is a nice place to go to. I would even rate it as a, "Hole In The Wall," which, you know, are the good places that you want to eat at. Go support them!! read more

This little taco spot is super good. My wife found it and we love it. It is just very good Mexican food. Pretty traditional items, tacos, burritos, tortas etc.... If you are looking for a really good torta, give this place a try. They are great, the bread is perfect, their meats are flavorful and the ladies that work here are always so friendly. If i could give this place 0 stars i would. This place was overpriced, and the portions were very small. I spent $50 on four tacos and three quesabirrias, and the tortillas were tiny. Even a glass of Coca-Cola was $5.50. To make matters worse, I found a hair in my food. When I asked for my receipt, I was told their receipt machine wasn't working. However, we confronted them, they suddenly were able to give us a receipt. Overall, I was very disappointed with both the food and the service. I would not recommend this place‼ read more

The only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1, is because the red salsa and the burrito itself has pretty good flavor and the service is friendly and fairly quick. With that being said, I would not come back here again. I paid $16 for a small birria butrito that I finished pretty quickly. Rafa's across the street charges $13 or $14 and the burrito is almost twice the size, enough for me to split into two meals. I cannot justify paying this much for a small burrito. And to top it off, my burrito hardly had any birria. So I pretty much overpaid for a glorified bean and rice burrito with a small amount of meat. I hope they see this and try and make a change but it's doubtful so I hope more people call them out for this. read more

I came here with my mom after p.t nearby so we were craving some tacos. Small seating area with the a/c blasting. My mom and I shared a plate of tripas, pastor, asada, and cabeza tacos. The wait time was not long even when they're busy. The tacos were not too greasy with chopped onions and cilantro. The salsas gave a good heat. I was at a convention when I stumbled across this place. A total wholesome the wall with great hospitality. There were people seated in that seemed like regulars. You know a place is good when regulars come to it. I ordered a taco plate with included two meats, rice, beans, and drink. And it was great. I loved that it came in a paper plate. A good friend of mines swears by this place so I had to come give it a try. It's a small little restaurant but feels very authentic and welcoming once inside. The lady at the register had such good energy and was very polite. I ordered an Al pastor burrito and a agua de Pina. The burrito is a nice size and comes pretty loaded. Too keep things short.. I had catering from them for my husband's 40th for 40 people ( May 20206). Food is good. Because I've been going here for over 10 years I recommended them to my sister in law because she was planning her daughter's graduation party. She placed her catering order for 60 people and on the day of the party i realized that the same amount of food from my party was given for her party. She was charged double of what I payed but yet given the same amount of food. My sister in law had to purchase more tacos because she ran out of food. What they did was very unfair and I called and I was told the owner would call me back and I never got a call back. I will not recommend this place to cater. First time trying Taqueria El Sol but it won't be the last! The woman working the register/taking orders was so nice and friendly. After we had sat down she came over and wiped down the table. It was already clean and free of dishes but it was appreciated just the same. The restaurant was neat and organized. The food was delicious! I was super hungry and just dug in when the food came. Thanks to Yelp I found this bare bones taqueria that convenient to an area I pass often. I got lucky being there taco Tuesday so can't complain at $1.20. I stuck to Al pastor tacos and it was decent. I'll return in a pinch for sure, but not a destination place. Nothing really wrong but meat just ok, not enough zip to the green salsa. Nice people running it. Lots of people picking up go orders. Quaint taco shop in a small strip mall easily missable if you drive on by, but I'm glad I didn't! Expect a hole-in-the-wall feel with friendly people. You can tell they are entrenched and beloved by their local folk. The tacos were very affordable, so I ordered asada, cabeza, al pastor, and birria, all excellent quality and scrumptious. Idk about the place but once upon a time it was good. Had lunch there today and sorry but not sorry but food was terrible. The beans taste like can beans, rice had a fishy taste to it, birria tacos had a greasy taste to it, size of tacos where to small, chile relleno was way to greasy, and asada taco was ok. Couldn't even gat a refill of soda. Wasn't worth the cost I paid. Service was ok. Ambiance was like any other fast food taco shop. If ever in the area again won't be returning. I rarely leave bad reviews, but this taco place earned it. First off, the service was painfully slow--even though the place was half-empty, it took nearly 30 minutes to get three tacos. And when they finally arrived, they were cold and soggy, like they'd been sitting around waiting for someone to remember to serve them. The tacos themselves? Bland, greasy, and falling apart. I ordered the carne asada, and what I got was more like overcooked mystery meat with zero seasoning. The salsa was watery and barely had any flavor. Honestly, I've had better tacos at gas stations. Also the staff should be wearing hairnets and not long acrylic finger nails . Staff is rude when you mentioned it to them. They need to work on customer service. To top it off, the prices were outrageous for what you get. I left hungry, frustrated, and down $20 for what felt like a very sad snack. The AL PASTOR!!! Super winning on the flavor and texture of the al pastor. It's perfectly seasoned with a lil bbq char, which is exactly how I like it. The inside is small and there were many getting their orders to go, just like myself. I ordered when I arrived since it was my first time and I was not familar with the menu. When I got home with them, it was stil piping hot and the size was actually pretty decent, making this place a great value! The steak was chopped small and tasted great, with a flavorful seasoning. Until I saw this place on Yelp, I had no idea it existed...and my parents live within walking distance. This place embodies the hole in the wall mom and pop shop. My wife and I walked to this place for lunch on a nice and sunny postcard-quality So Cal day. My wife ordered the Pierna (Shredded Pork) Burrito and I ordered the Taco Special plate with 2 street tacos (I chose carne asada and al pastor), beans and Spanish rice with a drink. My wife also ordered a soda and we ordered some chips and salsa. My wife thought her burrito had good flavors wrapped in a fresh tortilla served in a generous portion. My tacos were very good, although I was hoping for similar flavors like those from the good 'ol days when I savored tacos from King Taco on Soto St. The rice and beans were nothing to write home about. We both liked the flavors and will always prefer supporting mom and pops. We will be back and I think I will just go for street tacos with different meats. Lunch for 2 came out to $22 with tip. Stopped here on our way home because of the 4.5 rating. We pulled up & it was completely empty. There was a lady that saw us walk in but walked away. There's no sign or indication of where to order, when you walk in there is a hostess stand on the right so we waited there for a bit. After sometime we walk in further & see the register was all the way back to the right. We ordered tacos, mulita & a burrito, all carnes asada. The came out pretty quick which was nice. Taqueria El Sol, where have you been in my life? We were looking for a new Taco Tuesday spot, and decided to venture out to Pomona for the spot. It did not disappoint. Everything here is absolute quality. You can taste the quality in the meat. The asada, pierna, al pastor, and pollo were all excellent. The pierna was the star of the show for me. Imagine a carnitas that's so succulent and packs more of a punch. Their tortas are excellent as well. And get this: tacos are 99 cents on Tuesday. Unheard of especially during a looming recession.
