We love it here its the perfect place to meet and discuss School booster stuff, with front dining area tables that are large and accommodating for quick meetings over great food that tastes like home-cooked meals. My favorite place to eat in the IE! literally Tropical Mexico has stopped my husband and I from eating out anywhere else....we had other spots we would frequent but the service, atmosphere and delicious food keeps us coming back. Especially since they added more and bigger TVs to the entire place, this is our go to spot to watch any game. NFL, MLB, Soccer, Hockey I'm sure they'll have the Winter Olympics playing too! It's a very laid back vibe with plenty of seating options for groups of any size. The food is always consistent and the pitcher of margarita is a must have. We have tried everything from the sizzling fajita platter to the shrimp ceviche and bean and cheese burrito, it's all delicious. I judge Mexican restaurants by their rice and beans and this place nails it. My go to is the Cheese Enchilada small plate that comes with one enchilada and a generous portion of rice and beans it's the perfect amount of food for me to finish, yet still enjoy the delicious complimentary chips and salsa and my pitcher (that I share, of course) The shrimp ceviche tostada is also a must because they serve a mountain of ceviche for under $9, you can't beat that! Can't say enough great things about this place, staff and ownership that has been running this place as a family since the 70s. The owner's son can be seen walking around greeting guests and you see so many regulars come in hugging and waving to the servers, it's truly a special place. Guacamole was flavorful even if not the absolute best. The salsa and chips were good. I had a chicken chimichanga and it was very good. We came here with friends for dinner for the first time this week, and while the food was okay and the servers were great, the food was a little bland in flavor. We tried ground and shredded beef tacos, cheese enchiladas, and a burrito. Again, there was nothing wrong with the food, it's just not somewhere we would be rushing to go back for when we have other Mexican restaurants we like better. We did notice a lot of senior citizens there for dinner, so maybe they make the food a little blander to suit some of the clientele; or maybe we should have tried different items. A Hidden Gem Worth Rediscovering! Tucked away in the middle of a residential neighborhood, this little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant is a true hidden gem. I had been here many years ago but hadn't found my way back--until we stumbled across it by accident while meandering home. From the front, not much had changed, but inside and out, the upgrades were impressive. They've added an incredible outdoor patio that, even on a warm day, felt perfect with the breeze. Inside, there's now more seating in addition to the original cozy section that instantly brought back memories of my first visit. The booths and chairs inside looked cushy and inviting, but with sunny, mild weather, we opted for the patio. The high-top plastic tables outside were surprisingly comfortable and perfect for lingering. While I didn't take a photo, there is a large parking area with plenty of spaces - making it easy to get in and out without having to worry about finding a spot. Every employee we met was friendly, smiling, and genuinely cared about whether we had a good experience. The space is full of vibrant, colorful murals--even in the women's restroom! Speaking of which, the women's bathroom was spotless, family-friendly with a toddler safety seat and changing station (can't vouch for the men's room). Since we weren't very hungry but wanted to check it out, we kept our order light. Chips and salsa are complimentary (though extra chips cost more). The salsa was fresh, tomato-forward, and had heat, but for me lacked depth of flavor. They don't offer a green salsa, but they do have a chile verde sauce available for a small charge--it had a nice tang, mild heat, and was worth trying. We ordered a shredded beef tostado and, on our server Ricardo's recommendation, the pescado ceviche. The tostado was loaded with toppings, though I found the meat portion a little light. The beans, however, were clearly made fresh and delicious. The ceviche, though, stole the show--hands down the best I've had in years! Fresh, flavorful, and vibrant, it's made daily and is Ricardo's personal favorite for good reason. We didn't sample drinks or cocktails this time, but we're already planning a return visit. My bosses were raving about this place so I decided to pick this place to celebrate my birthday with them. I decided to try the Lunch Special Carne Asada Taco with Cheese Enchiladas and Beans. Also, we shared the guacamoleand chips. It was sooo delicious that I was eating so much of the quac than I should have and I even finish my whole plate from the lunch special. The lunch special dish was more than enough that I was so stuff from it. My co worker decided to get the churros and it's so flavorful, fresh, hot, and delicious! I would definitely come here again to try other dishes. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very clean and lot of seats inside. It didn't feel too cramped. Good food. Good service. Friendly staff. However, it is absolutely frustrating that I have to flag down someone at the end of the meal to bring the bill. The empty plates will be swiftly removed but nobody seems to pay attention to the final piece of service. I often spend way too much time trying to get someone to bring the bill. Also... the men's restroom. The motion sensor lighting is literally set to turn off in 60 seconds. I timed it. Good luck if you need to do anything other than a quick pit stop. Motion lighting does not work with closed stall doors. I'm surprised that anyone is ok with this. read more

Stopped in here with some co-workers for a quick bite. By the looks of the outside, it seemed old and lower class but we all know you some of the best food can be found in places like this. The reviews showed 4-stars and over 600 reviews so I knew there was something good inside. The rear parking lot is huge and the back of the building looked modern. They're building a big large covered patio with a bunch of tv monitors so this place will be rocking shortly. The inside is a typical family dinner house with well spaced tables. Service was great throughout and they had a nice sized weekday lunch crowd. Typical Mexican dinner house menu and excellent chips and salsa (always a good sign). My chicken burrito, covered in green sauce, was quite serviceable and decently priced. My buddies all enjoyed their dishes and neither could finish the large portions. I'm scratching my head here trying to figure out how this place has 4 stars. Let's start with we were three in our party and we were only brought two sets of utensils. The oysters were the worst I've ever had in my life. The ceviche tostada had some sort of cooked fish that had no resemblance to real ceviche. Not sure what it was. Michelada was decent for sure. It might be the best thing we had. The salsa for the chips was also good. The fiesta platter had burnt nachos. The beans looked like they were from a can. The guacamole had an overload of onion. Hope you guys don't get your hopes up by the pictures on their Yelp post. Because from the outside, it looks like you will be enjoying your meal. Tropical Mexico, a special home away from home type restaurant. I have such nostalgia and fond memories of this place, my family has been eating here for generations, decades! Years and years of dinners.... Birthday dinners, after little league dinners, random "Don't feel like dirtying the kitchen" weeknight dinners. One of my grandmother's go-to spots, just a little piece of all of our hearts lives in Tropical Mexico. Good, honest, tasty food that isn't fluffed out and fancied up. We never once had a bad experience here, it's always been a pleasure dining here. The staff are all so gracious and friendly, like they really want you to be there and have a nice meal.... Which is unfortunately hard to come by in a restaurant nowadays. We have a new little guy in the family now and he's been here at least a dozen times, big bean and rice boy. (my friends said the relleno was frozen, not fresh, and it should look like it) I was so mad and after spending almost 20.00 on it, again so, disappointing. Then I went home and made some eggs to eat. I was and should have spoken to the waitress but, she couldn't be found then we had to wait a long time for the check, so we went to the cashier. The meal was just so disappointing!! I do not recommend going here when there are so many other Mexican restaurants around. Friends... please go elsewhere, where you can spend $$$ and have a delicious meal. Glass in the salad will not be coming back the owner took the larger piece before we could take a photo. My mom bit into the larger piece while eating. The so called owners feedback was not apologies allow me to comp your family's meal or do you need medical attention again not sure if she ate any glass seeing as there were multiple pieces in the salad which should have been done at a minimum. His response to us was "that's so strange we don't keep glass near our salads". Implying that we put glass in the damn salad. Ridiculous I've seen bad service but this is beyond bad. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. If the owner is reading this post expect the medical bill in the mail if my mom ingested any glass. One thing I will say is the owner was really fast taking off with the larger piece of glass we found before we could take a photo. Luckily for him the salad had more smaller pieces in the attached photo! The fact that you are trying to down play this and say it's plastic says it all. I stand behind the review and would not recommend and will not be returning. We confirmed it was glass, it was not plastic. And you took off with the larger piece of glass before I could get a photo.
