    the interior of a restaurant

It was a very snowy day yesterday, and I wanted some authentic Mexican food. I am not talking Joe taco or Taco Bell, taco Villa or Tex Mex. I was really craving some authentic Mexican food. To my pleasant surprise, this restaurant was open and was close to where I work. The restaurant was warm inside, and the service was very good. My server was kind and she had a wonderful personality. I ordered some cheese enchiladas, Carne guisada, rice and beans, and a Pastor taco. I also had two Micheladas, which were delicious by the way. The food was wonderful. The plate was full, the taco with stuffed beyond the tortilla, And I never lacked for anything. The chips and salsa were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised and happy with my meal. It was also reasonably priced. I do have two complaints. I saw one of the male employees in the serving area eating shredded cheese with his hands off of the counter where it had been freshly shredded. I hate that kind of stuff. It is disgusting. Plus, no one in the kitchen, where I could see back in to fully, was wearing a mask. Since the kitchen is in plain sight for customers, they really should be wearing some sort of facial covering, even if it is a light paper mask. However, that did not stop me from eating my food, and I did not complain to anyone. I just made a mental note, and I will think twice about going to that location for a future meal because of hygiene and sanitation. All in all, I had a great meal, left satisfied, and my pocketbook was not much lighter. It was a blizzard outside, and I appreciated them being open.

From the outside, it doesn't look like much. Although, this place has good food! I had the mini tacos with carne asada. Very good and will return. Authentic Mexican tacos for sure.

Kudos for having mojarra. Not many places have it. Not spectacular. The fries from the kid's meal were very soggy. Very basic dinner, no frills.

Migas Place plate with potatoes and beans plus tortillas. Sides of guacamole and sour cream. Taquito in the back.

I have never been here but when I was looking around for a place to get breakfast and I saw that this place had migas then of course I had to come try them. I really liked the place and plan to come back. The service was great. The Migas were really good. The price was right. Social distancing and face masks were being used. Everything looked very clean. I saw a breakfast special for $6.99 and asked what it entailed. It sounded like a lot of good food so I hope to come back and try it. I asked how much a side of guacamole and sour cream would be. I was told $0.75 which sounded good. I intended to just get a guacamole but she brought a guacamole and a sour cream so I enjoyed both. I didn't get an itemized bill but it couldn't have been much more than what she said based on the total price. I also decided to get a taquito on the side just to try it out. I was expecting a little crispy rolled up thing like they serve in San Diego but to my surprise I got a very well filled soft flour taco folded over an amount of eggs that would have been enough to comprise a whole breakfast if you didn't crave side dishes. The migas came with beans and cubed potatoes. Both good. The guacamole was excellent. About the only thing I missed was being served complimentary chips at the beginning which I look forward to at many Mexican restaurants. Otherwise I was very happy and highly recommend a place to others.

Outstanding queso (not from a can!) and the guisada is amazing (I came back 2 days after the first time just to have the guisada again).

Great food, with a big menu of favorites. Seems very authentic and service was great. They even had live music when we were there.

There were two other tables with two people each that left shortly after my table of three arrived. Ordered our drinks and it took 57 minutes to get them. The bartender actually noticed that we had been sitting there without anything and he brought them over even though he was not our server. Our server did not understand English, and we kept having to use our phones to translate so we could communicate with her. We asked for appetizers that we never got, yet were on the bill. Our food came out 98 minutes after arriving, and again the bartender was the one that was serving us. The female server sat at an empty table on her telephone the entire time. When I asked for the bill, she didn't understand me and had to get a coworker to actually print out our bill. I tipped-out the bartender because he's the one that actually provided us our service. When I checked my credit card statement the next day she had given herself a $10 tip even though I had lined through it on the receipt. I immediately called the Amarillo Police Department to file police a eport for theft, and I did a fraud against my credit card with my bank. I explained to the Amarillo Police Department what happened, and sent them copies of my receipt and the receipt that I had left for her. The APD attempted to contact Braceros management. Every time the detective called he was told that the manager was not in the office and that they did not know when he would be in the office. At my insistence, the detective went to Braceros and asked for the manager and watched the manager walk away and had his employees say that he was not available. Management was absolutely refusing to speak to the police. When APD asked the employee about my waitress, because her name was on my receipt, the Braceros employee said oh I don't know who that is. So the detectives couldn't even talk to the waitress. They sent the detectives two more times attempting to talk to management and they refused to talk to them. Another 1000% sure management is in on this scam. I filed a complaint with the local Chamber of Commerce and come to find out, Braceros is known for this and there are banks in the Amarillo area that will not honor any charges on their credit or debit cards at Braceros restaurants. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!

The staff was friendly but did not provide the best service throughout our meal. We shared the combo beef and chicken fajitas for one. The chicken was cooked perfectly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The beef was a little overdone, but the fresh, homemade corn and flour tortillas were absolutely fantastic and made the meal even better. We also ordered the Tacos de Birria (goat) with consommé, and they were delicious! The meat was incredibly flavorful, and they came with a small cup of sauce that added even more flavor just be prepared because it packs some serious heat! The chips and queso were just okay, but overall we really enjoyed it being a convenient stop on our road trip home. Not sure if we will stop again when in town.

My girlfriend's mom was especially excited to take me to El Tejaven while I was visiting. This dinner was a celebration of my girlfriend's sister playing in the top All-Region orchestra. It has nothing to do with the food itself, but I want to mention it because she did a great job performing and I think it deserves to be remembered here. It is the reason we went in the first place. It was a busy night at El Tejaven before we arrived. A group of 32 was just wrapping up dinner. Thirty two people. At that point, just cater, dawg. It took about 20 minutes after arrival to get seated, but it likely would have been much quicker if it were not for a group that size. Once we were seated, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was spicier than I was prepared for, but it was good. The chips were excellent as well. Most people at the table ordered margaritas on the rocks, while I got a dressed Dos Equis on draft. From what I tasted, the margaritas were solid. For appetizers, we ordered the small queso and the small ceviche. The queso was standard but good. The ceviche, on the other hand, was exceptional. I could have eaten a large bowl by myself. I was pretty hungry, so I ordered the Orden de Tacos, which comes with four tacos on corn tortillas. I got all of them with al pastor. I also added a side of rice and beans, which normally comes with the three taco order but can be added on for the four tacos. The tacos were very good and exactly what you want from street style al pastor, especially with the cilantro and onions. It comes out to roughly four dollars per taco if you do the math. The rice and beans were both great and I ate all of it easily. The plate also came with a side of guacamole that had a nice kick, which I enjoyed. Living in Austin with family in San Antonio, it is easy to find good and authentic Mexican food. That does not always seem to be the case in Amarillo, so it is nice to know there is at least one spot in the city that feels authentic and not overly gringoified. My girlfriend's family knows ball.
