Service was great. Food was really good and plenty of it just spicier than I like. We ordered the fajitas for two. Price was very reasonable.

Traveling thru and saw this place on Yelp and it was near us so we gave it a try. Not disappointed! The chicken enchiladas and Sweet Potato bakery item were the best!

Passing through on our way back to Dallas and found great reviews on this little place in Amarillo. It's a hole in the wall, so do not let that discourage you. We ordered the fajitas for 2 & it came with rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, guacamole on a bed of lettuce. The food came out fresh out hot. The beef was so delicious and the chicken, just a little dry, but very flavorful. Lastly, the service was great & personable too. Not too pricey at all! I highly recommend this place in Amarillo.

Sometimes simple authenticity wins. What a pleasant surprise from this bright red restaurant with a bright lime-green interior housed in an unassuming little building. We had a delicious meal here: the spicy, fresh salsa was obviously housemade, the marinated brisket in the enchilada was rich in flavor and fork-tender, the taco was crispy-delicious, the chicken-stuffed Chili Relleno was amazing, and the guacamole on the Chalupa was perfect. Everything was delightfully fresh and very tasty. So glad we ended up here on our way through Amarillo.

    Nachos. Simple but fabulous!!

This is a diamond in the rough. Amazing food! Randomly even the Hickory burger was perfect. Simple nachos were very nice. Each homemade chip had cheese and was organized, not messy nachos so easy to eat. The fajita bowl for two was Huge with two plates also full of veggies, refried beans and rice for each. I am visiting from Lubbock. I wish we had an authentic Mexican restaurant. Green sauce was Not mild so watch out. Spicy spice! Amarillo has the best 'hole in the wall' restaurants of anywhere, my opinion.

The staff was friendly but did not provide the best service throughout our meal. We shared the combo beef and chicken fajitas for one. The chicken was cooked perfectly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The beef was a little overdone, but the fresh, homemade corn and flour tortillas were absolutely fantastic and made the meal even better. We also ordered the Tacos de Birria (goat) with consommé, and they were delicious! The meat was incredibly flavorful, and they came with a small cup of sauce that added even more flavor just be prepared because it packs some serious heat! The chips and queso were just okay, but overall we really enjoyed it being a convenient stop on our road trip home. Not sure if we will stop again when in town.

Visiting my girlfriend and her family in Amarillo led me to trying some of their favorite places in…read morethe city. My girlfriend's mom was especially excited to take me to El Tejaven while I was visiting. This dinner was a celebration of my girlfriend's sister playing in the top All-Region orchestra. It has nothing to do with the food itself, but I want to mention it because she did a great job performing and I think it deserves to be remembered here. It is the reason we went in the first place. It was a busy night at El Tejaven before we arrived. A group of 32 was just wrapping up dinner. Thirty two people. At that point, just cater, dawg. It took about 20 minutes after arrival to get seated, but it likely would have been much quicker if it were not for a group that size. Once we were seated, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was spicier than I was prepared for, but it was good. The chips were excellent as well. Most people at the table ordered margaritas on the rocks, while I got a dressed Dos Equis on draft. From what I tasted, the margaritas were solid. For appetizers, we ordered the small queso and the small ceviche. The queso was standard but good. The ceviche, on the other hand, was exceptional. I could have eaten a large bowl by myself. I was pretty hungry, so I ordered the Orden de Tacos, which comes with four tacos on corn tortillas. I got all of them with al pastor. I also added a side of rice and beans, which normally comes with the three taco order but can be added on for the four tacos. The tacos were very good and exactly what you want from street style al pastor, especially with the cilantro and onions. It comes out to roughly four dollars per taco if you do the math. The rice and beans were both great and I ate all of it easily. The plate also came with a side of guacamole that had a nice kick, which I enjoyed. Living in Austin with family in San Antonio, it is easy to find good and authentic Mexican food. That does not always seem to be the case in Amarillo, so it is nice to know there is at least one spot in the city that feels authentic and not overly gringoified. My girlfriend's family knows ball.
