I ordered what was advertised as a ribeye steak topped with shrimp, jalapeños, and onions. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. The steak was paper-thin, tough, and far from what I expected. The shrimp were ok, but the plate was mostly piled with onion and peppers. I also ordered water, which had a stale, unpleasant taste and was undrinkable. The restaurant itself is a small hole-in-the-wall. On a Saturday at 7 PM, there were only two tables occupied--including mine--which now makes sense. It is a nice little hometown feel place. Authentic Mexican food, serves lots of dishes that main stream restaurants do not serve including goat. My favorite is a Chile relleno stuffed with cheese and cheese enchiladas, with a beef taco. I ordered a combo plate and ordered everything with cheese, except the crispy beef taco. When the plate came I began to eat and it was very tasty. However, the enchilada and the Chile Relleno were both full of chicken. I hesitated to send it back, but I traveled 60 miles to come eat at this restaurant and so I wanted to get the food that I actually had intended. The waitress certainly implied that I had ordered chicken, but I did not. I ordered cheese. I never ever order chicken at a Mexican restaurant. Anyway, it took a while for my next plate to come out, but when it did, it tasted a little bit weird and it made me honestly hesitant to eat it. I was afraid they might have done something to my food because I had returned the incorrect dish. It tasted very strange. So, I ate my taco and the chips and salsa. I ended up paying more than $20 for the meal that I did not even get to eat. Overall, I would say this is a good restaurant and my original dish did taste good however it was not what I ordered. Who knows who is in the kitchen and what they might have done to my food when I sent it back for the correct thing that I had ordered. I am not accusing them of doing anything to my food, but I was suspicious because of the strange taste. I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant, but I was afraid to eat my second plate because of potential tampering with my food. read more

Passing through on our way back to Dallas and found great reviews on this little place in Amarillo. It's a hole in the wall, so do not let that discourage you. We ordered the fajitas for 2 & it came with rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, guacamole on a bed of lettuce. The food came out fresh out hot. The beef was so delicious and the chicken, just a little dry, but very flavorful. Lastly, the service was great & personable too. Not too pricey at all! Stopped in here on our way back from Albuquerque to Dallas. The place is kind of small and looks a little old inside. Don't let that fool you, the food is awesome. I had the deep fried burrito and it was perfectly cooked. They bring put salsa in little squirt bottles and that has just the right amount of kick. Sometimes simple authenticity wins. What a pleasant surprise from this bright red restaurant with a bright lime-green interior housed in an unassuming little building. We had a delicious meal here: the spicy, fresh salsa was obviously housemade, the marinated brisket in the enchilada was rich in flavor and fork-tender, the taco was crispy-delicious, the chicken-stuffed Chili Relleno was amazing, and the guacamole on the Chalupa was perfect. This is a diamond in the rough. Amazing food! Randomly even the Hickory burger was perfect. Simple nachos were very nice. Each homemade chip had cheese and was organized, not messy nachos so easy to eat. The fajita bowl for two was Huge with two plates also full of veggies, refried beans and rice for each. I am visiting from Lubbock. I wish we had an authentic Mexican restaurant. Green sauce was Not mild so watch out. Spicy spice! I had seen this place on yelp and asked the boys if they wanted to switch to Mexican and they all agreed. I'm glad we did because this place was awesome! Everyone loved the food. On our way through Amarillo we were lucky enough to find this little gem of a Mexican restaurant a double lucky to get the last legal looking parking space. As other reviewers have mentioned the street view of the place leaves something to be desired and inside decor is uninspiring but those are not the things to be worrying about anyway. This service was fast and friendly and the food was fantastic. The chips were thin and crisp, the salsa had a nice spice without being overpowering or oniony (I do not like raw onion) I ordered the Carne Guisada: beef tips and potatoes cooked in its own juices with veggies and their own special blend of spices. Beautifully tender roast with chunky potatoes, I have no idea what the veggie might have been it was just a green pile of mush that lent all its being to the scrumptious sauce. I even asked for a spoon so all the goodness had to pass over my tongue and none was left behind. It came with the traditional Mexican rice and refried beans, both of which had fantastic flavor. My husband ordered the Codorniz: quail marinated to perfection and served with Mexican rice guacamole and beans. Wow, hubby loved it and was willing to share a leg; "marinated to perfection" is an apt description for this dish. Not only did they marinate this delectable bird they ratcheted up the spice by blackening the skin and cooking it under a press. It's located only like a quarter mile off I 40 and totally worth it. Very glad yelp guided us to this restaurant!!!! Started off with a pleasant greeting from the hostess. She took us to our table and came back with delicious salsa and warm chips. The salsa was very good and you could taste the freshness. Based on the waitresses suggestion I had the chili relleno with chicken. The chili, chicken and sauce were are delicious. Nice stop and don't be fooled by the building. Most restaurants like this are usually a great find. For those traveling through the Amarillo area this place is easy to get too from I40 just exit Grand and go south about 1/4 mile and its on the right. The chips were crisp and good, had two salsa one red a bit spicy on the afterwards and the green chili salsa. Both were fresh and great. My wife had the fajitas special is was plenty for her. Meat was tender and flavored well. I had the cheese enchiladas with chili con sauce and absolutely loved that chili con sauce. Could've had more of that sauce for my chips and rice lol.
