Because of all the favorable review, I decided to try out this unassuming little spot during my recent overnight stay in Coalinga. I was not disappointed! I ordered the 3 Quesabirria Taco Plate with Soup, which goes for $13.75 and it was outstanding. These tacos were probably the best I think I have ever had in my entire life. They have counter service here, but since I was eating in, I was offered traditional service at my table. The server was friendly and courteous and the place was very clean inside. The food is 5 star! We had chicken and asada tacos as well as a whole BBQ chicken we took to go. The first sampling of food was so good we just had to order more! The flavors were up there with some of the best in the Central Valley. The price we paid was very reasonable. We were impressed with the cleanliness. Short of inspecting the kitchen lol - details we care about are things like clean chair legs, walls, windows and restrooms. The food was really good. The area is kinda sketchy. We had just stopped by there on the way to our destination. The ladies were nice and they didn't have crunchy tacos on the menu but they made it for us anyways. Which was sweet of them. Small place but Big on taste [Coalinga CA] If you think Coalinga is all about Harris Ranch you should drive further in to town and try the food at Taqueria Gonzalez. Indoor dining room was a modest size but they have outdoor seating as well. The restaurant is counter-service so we placed our order with the friendly (and patient) young gal as we browsed through the wall menu quickly. We chose an Asada Burrito and Asada Fries. We found an open table and before we could say "birria" our order was being served to us. The burrito was a generous size so the hubby and I split it. The radish, jalapeño, fried onions and hot sauce were served on the side. For drinks I got my favorite, the Jamaica, and hubby chose the horchata. We also shared the asada fries. French fries loaded with beans, roast beef, mozzarella cheese, pico de gallo and topped with a jalapeño. That was enough to get me full. When we think of Coalinga we think of Harris Ranch steak and cattle farm... and you'll know when you hit Coalinga by the smell. We were looking for a dinner spot after hiking, we arrived at 6:30 PM and already cleaning up but still let us order and stay to eat. We got the quesabirria tacos and carne asada fries, along with chips and salsa that came with meal ordering. The quesabirria tacos were the best I've ever had so far with succulent meat and crispy taco shells. The consommé was so flavorful that my partner drank it. We ordered a medium size carne asada fries and the plate was huge, which is enough to feed two people. The carne asada on the top was dry but overall, still good flavors. Not only was the food amazing, but the service was divine! We ordered quesabirria tacos and frijole con queso papusas. The serving sizes were generous, especially the papusas-- there was so much food! And after driving for 3 hours, it was just what we needed to refuel and feel good about the next 3 hours on the road. And like I said earlier, what made it even better was the service. Everyone there was kind, and they were sweet to our little one. The lady who was cooking had the most beautiful singing voice, and the lady who took our order spoke with me about her baby as well. I thought it was delicious and I had to leave 1/3rd of it since I was too full. So that made up for it. I got a plain bean sope with avocado for my daughter and got charged full price. Stumbled across this place looking for a delicious, authentic Mexican restaurant. I'm always skeptical of over the top yelp reviews, but this place did not disappoint. I shared a shredded beef Birria taco plate and their Birria pizza they both came with homemade chips and fresh salsa. Absolutely delicious flavors. The service was spot on friendly and efficient. My experience with Mexican food options in Coalinga have been remarkably disappointing except for two places. Taqueria Gonzalez is a bright light in the darkness. The service and food is great! Super yummy. My wife had pork and chicken tacos and I had a pork quesadilla for the road. We shared as much as we could as we were driving,.
